What's new

South Africa end Day 2 of the 2nd Test at 382/6 as Pakistan bowlers toil with little success

If Abbas goes over the top means PAK pacers are bowling a little short here. This is another problem of playing on UAE tracks. Pacers are basically used to contain there & take shine off, so they often bowl just short of driving length, doing same here. These thigh high length is never going to work against batsmen groomed on bounce - either length has to bring them on front foot or push it up to chest height at least with pace.

By the way, I see Sarfraz taking new ball 4 overs later, when he could have used his pacers flat out with new ball for 6 overs before tea and then come back after a little rest. Abbas could have bowled 10 overs with new ball that way - any clue why it was delayed?

I expect a good score for him in a losing cause to save his place.
Doesn't matter. We will never get anywhere with Asad and Azhar as our batsmen. They will never amount to anything and they should never be relied upon, even in their club teams. Asad is an immediate problem, while Azhar can be slowly phased out.

Sarfraz ka bhi kuch karna parega :sarf2

Why remove Abbas from attack, idiotic captaincy. Pressure of dot balls was getting created from both ends. This is very bad from sarfaraz.

There is variable bounce off the good length .
292/4 & i would be surprised if visitors score 200 in their next innings .

Pollock was talking about how they would act like there are more demons lol He said twas very close to acting they used to do in their days.

Match to hargaye wai hai, let the bowlers bowl their natural game, Sarfraz!

If Shaheen lands the ball in cracks he can also trouble batsmen. Abbas benefitted hugely from the cracks on this end. Some takes off. Some skid off the surface.

That will be just a luck by chance. Shaheen doesn't have any experience to exploit this.

Guys we have taken our best bowlers to south africa and they are bowling on bowling friendly surface. Worrying signs for pakistan cricket , in the past we could at least bowl well on seaming surfaces.

Cracks opening up.
We will roll over between 150-200.
Saffers wont bat again anyways so no need of Yasir.

Is Sarfraz trying to get the game called off due to cracks? There is an interesting debate going on between KP and smith about whether this is a good wicket.

Agreed. Though they have had their share of bad luck.

Resident experts need to understand one thing about South Africa, bowlers will always be in the game. Hence you take it session by session here (even an hour at a time), bowlers are allowed to bowl well and dominate. First session belonged to Pakistan, post lunch it's been all South Africa. The next session will decide the match and series. Faf is a gun captain, I believe we know our own conditions better than fly by night experts who've been watching SA cricket post the #1 ranking era.

Long time no see! Good to see you're still posting.

I fully agree, you should check the day 1 match thread where people were second guessing Faf's decision to bowl first.

KP and Smith arguing about the pitch, I reckon it's a good test wicket, that crack outside off stump has given accurate bowlers something to bowl at, while it's a flattish deck everywhere else with good value for shots in the outfield.

Well on the postive note, if Pakistan can take this game to the 4th innings with 100 runs, Yasir might come in to the play.

Purely based on few misbehaved balls.

KP is acting like this is an unfair pitch lol haha Did he watch Perth test or even MCG test where everybody took a pounding on their fingers.

Well I think he is talking about such wickets in general to be fair. A pitch that started cracking on day 1 lol. Well if these Saffers start complainng about pitches in SC from now on, they should think about te pitches they are serving up.

Since 2nd ball, SAF has scored like 12 runs in 10 overs with 6-7 scoring shots - that’s exactly how you negotiate difficult period in Test. Impressed by Bvuma for sure.

For pak to get a lead of 100 they will have to score 350 plus. In what planet will this feeble line up score that against this SA bowling attack?

Pakistan making faf's decision to bat second look good although it's not

:out:

Finally something! Though the lack of celebrations shows how dispirited the team is

Bowling coach Azhar Mahmood should be grilled for this loser Amir's selection. He has lost the in-swing into right hander which made him a lethal bowler in 2010.

He has squandered the new bowl twice now. Team gave him responsibility and he blew it. Swing is very low which the Proteas are covering to easily. Whenever he tries to bowl the in-swing seam the bowl just goes straight towards the 4th slip and wide enuff for S. Africans to hit square.

Amir is an embarassment. Even Taj Wali the Pak A bowler or Irfan can seam more than him with new cherry, a terrible pick.

Given how Pak struggled to chase 120 odd against SL in the 4th innings this will be a test already just to wipe off deficit.

What happened to Amir ? Forget about 2009-10, he was swinging into the Right handers vs India even in Asia cup. How he lost it completely?

Shaheen is easily the most threatening bowler of the 3 but is also the most impatient. It's always doing something when he bowls: extra bounce, movement off the seam. Just needs to learn to bowl a consistent line and learn to swing the bowl, his seam position isn't the best exactly.

Just end this match. What a borefest. We are looking at innings defeat easy. In fact just don’t even play the last test or ODIs because we know the results. Just play t20 series where we can compete

The depressing thing is, we have to play all the matches :(

Why isn't there a 3rd Fu*king slip for the new batsman!!!!!

Opportunity gone begging

Why are there so many 'Out' messages here and the score still remains 4 down?

lot of Beards in those all white dressed fans - Amla fan club i suppose .
Abbas has bowled better today but 324/5 on this deck is not good bowling i am afraid .

Any of SA player is better than any of ours wheter its batsman, bowler or keeper.
I think we will be whitewashed both in ODI and T20 as well along with test.

Abbas gave 49 runs in his first 10 overs.

Next 17.4 overs and has given just 26 runs. That's something.

De Kock stepping out and getting rapped on the gloves. Get a bat-pad catcher in.

Abbas reminds me of Indian phast bowler.

Debasish Mohanty who was hackled badly by Ijaj Ahmed + Afridi in Pakistan and Torronto.

Still pity the lack of talent and infrastructure we had in those days.

Heads need to roll after this (inevitable) 3-0 debacle for the second time straight in SA. Pakistan learnt nothing from the past.

Both Abbas and Amir along with Hasan proved to be worthless bowlers. And experts talked highly about Abbas to be next no. 1 bowler.

It has been still a mystery to me that how this side performed well in England! They were whitewashed in Australia ,NewZealand in their last tour without any rearguard action and the result seems to be the same here in SA.They lost home series to NewZealand,Srilanka! This will be the 14th test loss in last 21 tests. If some dramatic and radical changes don't take place,Pakistan cricket seems to be in jeopardy like that of West Indies.

20 overs left in the day , blast for next 8 , get to 370 & declare . It would be crazy batting for 10 tonight :)
