Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials are confident about the upcoming home series against South Africa, as the visiting Cricket South Africa (CSA) delegation appears satisfied with the arrangements. The Bangladeshi cricket board is set to host South Africa for two Tests, pending security clearance, following the ICC's move of the Women's T20 World Cup from Bangladesh to the UAE due to political unrest.

The CSA's four-member delegation arrived in Dhaka on September 21 and visited Chattogram the following day, where one of the Test matches is scheduled. They inspected the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur and observed security drills conducted by Bangladesh's security forces. Shahriar Nafees, BCB cricket operations manager, said that the delegation thanked the BCB and security forces for arranging everything in such a short time.

The team also visited the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram for a similar inspection. BCB officials held meetings with the Bangladesh Army and discussed with members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP). South Africa is scheduled to arrive on October 16, with the first Test in Dhaka starting on October 21 and the second Test in Chattogram on October 29.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board can confirm the two-match Test series scheduled to start on 21 October will go ahead.

A security assessment was recently conducted by CSA's Operations Manager, Team Security Manager, Safety and Security Consultant, and a representative of the South African Cricketers’ Association. CSA has given the series a go-ahead based on the recommendations made by the team post an in-loco inspection visit to Bangladesh.

The Proteas Men will arrive in Dhaka on 16 October, ahead of their first Test match against Bangladesh from 21 to 25 October. After that, the team will travel to Chattogram for the second match, scheduled from 29 October to 02 November.

The squad will be announced later today.

PROTEAS MEN’S SQUAD ANNOUNCED FOR BANGLADESH TEST TOUR

JOHANNESBURG: Test head coach Shukri Conrad has today announced a strong 15-player squad for the two-match series against Bangladesh in October.

Dafabet Warriors all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy has been recalled for the first time since his last appearance for the Proteas in March 2023. The 30-year-old, who has three Test caps, has taken 247 first-class wickets and amassed nearly 5 000 runs at an average of 30.41.

Muthusamy is one of three frontline spinners in the squad, alongside Keshav Maharaj and the Knights’ Dane Piedt.

Kagiso Rabada will spearhead the pace attack, which also includes Nandre Burger, World Sports Betting Western Province’s Dane Paterson, and DP World Lions all-rounder Wiaan Mulder. Warriors batter Matthew Breetzke, who was part of the recent Test tour of the West Indies, is the only uncapped player in the side.

Captain Temba Bavuma will lead the side in the two-match series which gets underway from 21 - 25 October in Dhaka, before his side heads to Chattogram for the second Test from 29 October - 02 November.

Commenting on the squad, Conrad said: “I want to firstly thank both boards, Cricket South Africa and the Bangladesh Cricket Board, for ensuring the series goes ahead.

"Bangladesh is always a tough place to tour. They’ve become a formidable side at home and we have to be prepared for the challenge that awaits us. We have therefore chosen a squad for the conditions we are expecting to greet us when we get there.

"We have three frontline spinners and all of them have the ability to step up at any time they are needed. This is a great chance for someone like Senuran, who has potential to make a mark with both bat and ball. We are really looking forward to seeing what he can offer.

"Overall, we trust the depth and versatility in our squad to meet this challenge head-on."

This is a good opportunity for Bangladesh to get their first Test win against South Africa.

I think BD should produce dustbowl pitches for the Tests.

Proteas Men’s Test captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the first Test against Bangladesh after scans revealed a left tricep muscle strain.

He will travel with the squad to Dhaka on Tuesday and continue his recovery under the supervision of the Proteas medical team in preparation for the second Test.

Aiden Markram will captain the side in the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, starting on 21 October.

Momentum Multiply Titans batter Dewald Brevis has been added to the squad as cover. The 21-year-old earns his maiden Test call-up after representing South Africa A against Sri Lanka A last month, where he scored 49 and 74 in the second four-day match.

Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been named as a replacement for Nandre Burger, who will miss the tour due to a lumbar stress fracture. Burger will now commence his rehabilitation with the Cricket South Africa and World Sports Betting Western Province medical teams.

The squad will convene for a red-ball camp at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria from 12 – 14 October.

South Africa are currently in Bangladesh to play 2 Tests. These are included in WTC.

1st Test (Mirpur) - October 21 - October 25
2nd Test (Chattogram) - October 29 - November 02.

Post Shakib Bal Hasan era starts in test cricket for BD. Post Haturusinghe era starts for BD cricket.

Not sure why another better batsman not there instead of Zakir Hasan or Jaker Ali who cant hold the bat. Zakir Hasan has no 50 8innings, even on batting paradises he struggles. Maybe better suited to T20 LOI formats. Mahmudul Hasan should play as opener. Need Nayeem Hasan in tall offie gets more bounce than Miraz, who can hold the bat too. Taijul is very important at home in test.

My playing XI for the first test for BD:
Shadman
Mahmudul
Mominul
Mushfiqur
Shanto
Liton
Miraz
Nayeem/Taskin
Taijul
H Mahmud
Nahid

Depending on the wicket. If it’s spin friendly two pacers. If it’s flat, 3 pacers.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Shanto revealed that the newly appointed head coach Phil Simmons isn’t taking the calls in the dressing room at the moment as he joined the team only recently, he said:

“A lot of things have changed in the last five days. The new coach isn't planning too much. He is new here. He is trying to understand everything. I know as a captain what the team is trying to do. Players know their role, and I have shared the plan with the new coach. We intend to utilize our wealth of experience at this venue. I don't think we need to think too much about the previous coach and the new coach,”

“He (Simmons) joined the team upon arrival. We spent a bit of time together. He wanted to know about the team environment. He is very new here. We are trying to understand each other, which I think will happen in the next one or two matches,”

Yes, they need to produce what helps them. Simple as that. Home advantage for a reason. Then again without Shakib I think SA has better spinners than BD. BD spinners haven't done well lately, even Shakib hasn't done too well last many series.

Good chance for bangladesh to get a some test wins. I expect them to win atleast one and possibly both the test matches. I really don't think SA team is good enough win here. Let's eee

Miraz and Taijul need to play a major role on Mirpur pitch. If they can't beat South Africa in Mirpur, that would be sad.

BD batting - most atrocious team selection by both team having just 3 bowlers & a all-rounder in a 4 man attack !!! 6/1

Whitewashing SA here and WI in WI might have got you to WTC final.
I think South Africa has real chance of qualified to WTC final .

They need to win 2-0 against Bangladesh .

Next they will Play Pakistan in South Africa .

Even they win 4 out of 5 test( 2 against BAN and 3 against pak) they can qualify for Final

South Africa is too mighty for Bangladesh to handle in Test cricket

Bangla boys were 26/6 against Pakistan before making a historic comeback. Dont write them off just yet. Remember, SA cant play spin!!!

106/10 - 47 overs left in the day . Rain last 3 days they say but game has really moved on fast ....

Innings break

Bangladesh (40.1 ov) 106 all out

South Africa should give the test captaincy to Markram too. Bavuma is 34 and always seems to be injured.

After the Pak series I really thought we would get our first test win vs SA in this series. Even heart was saying we might have the first test win against India too, even though brain was saying no

Lol too much to ask from this team. We are forever minnows.

Some bangladeshi fans were saying Bangladesh can white wash South Africa at home but look like South Africa is going to whitewash them :kp

You are actually producing good bowlers which is actually the harder thing to do, lol. It's your batsmen who absolutely suck.

Maybe change the pitches you play on in domestic which will develop batters better.

true but this defensive selection of Miraz as the 4th bowling option sucks ... he should be the 5th imo .

I think Miraz and Taijul are decent spinners in Asia apart from India.

They are slow through the air. In India and SENA, you have to be quicker through the air and that's where they struggle.

point is Miraz is a good enough bat to permit playing 4 full time bowlers besides him . 65/2

31 overs remain & trail by 41 , by lunch tomorrow they would be 150 ahead . Does this game go to day 4 ? ps : rain on day 3 btw ....

Under Haturusinghe (who has been sacked now), under Nic Pothas as Assistant/batting coach BD has regressed so much. whenever if they do bat well now it feels like a fluke. BD batters simply cant bat in test cricket anymore. This is why I called the Pak series win was a batting fluke!

A coach in a senior team can't teach players how to play, they are there for synergies and strategies. Your Bangladeshi cricketers can't play cricket and your team is forever minnows. How did BD won against Pakistan under same coach? Its bcoz Pakistan is equally bad if not worse. The moment they met India, they shown their true place and now finding the same against SA.

Blaming it on Hathurasinghe or any other coach won't help. It is just an excuse to shift the blame.

Regards,
Rajdeep.

But minnow BD Still yet to get dismissed under 100 runs at home by any SENA nations. Am sure they wont beat 46, ever.
And your point is?? Even after 46- Ind had a good shot at winning the test. Its a 3 matxh series fyi.. 2 more tests to go. Thats the problem with minnows.. small happiness. Let the test series finish. Its like the mushfiqur rahim celebration in t20wc where they didn't score 2 pf 3. Different format yes but its the moinnow mentality thinking. :ROFLMAO:

I don’t like this at all, never did. ICC should make mandatory minit2 pacers needed in any test match. It’s so boring seeing spinners bowl 90% of the time, in a test match for a side with only one lone pacer! I think it’s Shanto is behind this, who is a clueless captain. Shanto and his former coach even played one lone pacer in Sylhet where its a bouncier wicket not like Mirpur slow low rank turner!.

These guys just got blanked 5-0 in India even after India playing their Z team in T20 series. Yet talking big.

Kudos to NZ for restricting us to 46 and winning a test match. Not sure what is in it for Bangla :shakib

I was just reminding a fact that the minnow BD is still yet to be bowled out for less than a 50runs, less than 100runs at home against any sena nation. Thats all. :)

I disagree. A good test team has to play well on all surfaces. Thats why its called test cricket. A test of skills character temperament adaptability. Or else it will be boring. Turners in Asia , swing in nz, seam swing in eng , aus sa bouncy. I like those square turners where every ball is an event. No issues Ban preparing a rank turner..

Lost a test match in 1.5 days after 3 days of wash out is their greatest achievement :wy

Again its cricket.. Aus got out to 50 about so in eng as well. 1 innings 1 game. Nobody judges a team by 1 innings. thats why i said minnow level thinking- small small happiness translated lol !

Except Makharam, Maharaj and Rabbada. Don’t know rest of the SA players, at all.

Taijul is very good at home. Better than SAH. Another one gone. SA 5 down for 99

Don't engage with blind haters. India can get bowled out for 36 46 but they comeback next match..we rarely do, so your points are mute.

Tajul gets his 5th wicket! Crucial wicket!

SA 6 down for 108 runs.

Bangladesh can bowl them out for less than 30runs lead be better!

both the off spinners have been useless on this pitch, so far. Could’ve got another pacer in instead of one of them.

South Africa need another 50 runs as batting 4th will be very difficult on this tank Turner

Poor batting from BD again. Might have cost them the game.

Anyway, need to restrict SA to below 200.

Good bowling from Taijul. 5-fer already.

Taijul now has 201 Test wickets (2nd highest for BD; after Shakib's 246 wickets).

16 wickets fell in 1 day and the day is not over yet.

SA - 140/6 (41 overs).

Trailing by 34 runs.
