Just woke up. SA will probably declare at 550 lead and give us 5 sessions to bat.

Haven't seen any of the replays yet but our pace attack has looked pretty innocuous on this wicket. I think this is the first time the team has conceded 400-odd in an innings and the loss of Twatto now looks apparent.

Heavy rain forecast for Monday. Get a lead of 400 and have a go at them sometime today.

We start badly almost every first game of a series. Other teams managed to be humble about it without deciding that we are rubbish and that they now are the greatest team in the world. Australia didn't manage that.

Give us a quote where they said they were the greatest team in the world and that SA were rubbish. You're either really butthurt or a bad troll mate.

There was some crowing from some fans, but that is to be expected. I can't recall anyone from the team saying anything of the sort apart from a few chirps about having the best bowling attack, but that's probably more down to mind games.

Most of the crowing on this board wasn't from aussies.

hell i and other aussies were doing the best we could to remind people of south africa's stellar test record the last 5 years.

Lets just remember those same ones piling into SA are the ones now making threads about how useless mitch and the aussies are, we win the third test they will be making threads about SA being overrated and steyn being awful.

Nah not here, from the Cricinfo comments. But that place is a cesspool of garbage, much like the YouTube comments section.

I wonder how many of the cricinfo ones are even from the country they say they are, i have seen a few in the past with some names that make you think of another part of the world talking about how they are aussies but they hate their teams nasty sledging...

they are as aussie as a chicken vindaloo. ;)

So amla back in form as well, love watching ab and amla bat just not against us.

Could be a nightmare trying to get through both of them in form at cape town.

Might even be a time target, maybe lunch or just before depending on how quick things go first up.

Don't think it will matter, we rarely bat out draws, even our best teams struggled to save tests batting last.

I would actually say in recent years we would have chased down 300+ batting last more than we have batted 3 sessions for a draw.

Well, there is some rain forecast and I don't think 550 is really needed here.

400 lead will seal the game. You can chase 550 only in your dreams, no wonder no team has done that in the history of the game.

I don't think any OZ fans have been crowing about our team. Other people probably have, because they want someone to take SA down. It's what happened to us when we were at the top as well. A lot of us are old enough to know that teams go through peaks and troughs, and we all recognise that it's a long way away from No1 at the moment. This is just a step in the process. The Centurion win was as pleasing as it was unexpected but celebrating that is not a disrespect to the SA team. Somehow celebrating an unexpected win has become "saying the SA team is rubbish and that our team is the greatest and that Australians are not humble".

All the negative press about SA on CricIndia has been from SA writers, not OZ writers. Getting butthurt about those articles is pretty childish IMO but whatever floats people's boats.

As for the bowling attack I think our attack is certainly up there. Jury is still out as to whether it can be as consistent as SA's attack, or whether it can take wickets in difficult conditions. But we all knew that at the starts.

What really puzzles me is how fans in general get trolled so easily when some captain bigs up his team or his bowling attack. Of course he's not going to go and say "well our bowling attack is pretty shyte, we wouldn't get within a whisker of SA/Eng/whoever". A lot of times those comments are made to give his team confidence or for a bit of mind games. I think Clarke has said all the right things to show respect for SA, without being deferential.

If Proteyeah is taking those Cricinfo comments seriously then he's got some problems lol. Here at PP we have intelligent discourse.

It's going to be nearly impossible I think. You'd have to think that this wicket is quickening up and it would take a Michael Clarke special to do it. I don't know if anyone else could bat out 5+ sessions that it might need to save this Test. You could see the approach the batsmen had in the first innings - bat fast, lose wickets. They will have to bat out time first and then look to see if something happens.

The way morkel was getting some deliveries to jump at the batsman... Smith should be happy to declare after an hour of play tomorrow. Let amla get his ton and then kick on to a lead of 450. De kock should be told there is no pressure on him.

Morkel had some great spells in this match so far, and personally i think he was easily SA best bowler. No parnell might mean theyuld struggle with the workload... But being 1-0 down in the series, they have to go for it, if they intend to win a series against australia at home after many years.

Smith has a great opportunity to do that, hope he doesn't get all defensive with a late declaration.

The way that the OZ quicks have bowled on this wicket has been disappointing I have to say. I felt that they bowled better on Day 1 than they did on Days 2 and now 3.

There was one factor here though. On day 1, SA was simply trying to not get out. On day 2 and 3 , SA was trying to score some runs. It's more easy to bowl in right areas if no one is trying to attack.

450 is actually more than enough. Only twice 400+ has been chased in history.

I've just got a feeling that South Africa are going to do everything right in this match but they are going to be done in by the rain on Monday taking dozens of overs out of the game.

If Australia lose it will be only Lehman's 4th Test loss since taking over as boss.

If rain doesn't wipe out the majority of 5th day of play then SA has a decent chance to bowl out Aus. Aus rarely bats for a long period to save games.

Well our only chance here is South Africa's famous conservatism. They might bat too long and let rain save us. There is no way we can bat 150 overs to save a game, I doubt we could bat 60 to save a game actually.

Remember in all these theories in this thread that Smith is a very conservative captain in the style of Cook, Matthews. He will have a number in his head but it will be much more defensive and safe than the number in Clarke or Mccullum's head.

This is SA game to draw. It all depends on time of declaration and rain, Aus are truly out of it.

Personally hope SA finish off Aus and tie the series, it would make for a very intriguing 3th test.

The Saffers should honestly declare after Amla scores his century.

This is Australia. We'll score an aggressive 200 all out in response

Our only hope is that Biff bats too long and Monday is rained out. It also shows that they need a few more ideas when bowling on a wicket like this, because this is what I'm sure Pakistan will put out in the UAE - wickets that will nullify Jonno and will play to Ajmal and Rehman's strengths.
