India are 181/1 in 61 overs with Vijay [ 91] & Pujara [ 58 ] on crease .

Raining heavily atm & i would be shocked if we get 45 overs of play today . This thread can & should be used to cover today & tomorrows game .

from cricinfo : 10.30 am More bad news from Durban. Monga reports that the rain has gotten heavier. Firdose chimes in with the same sentiment, "Looks even worse now. Covers are on, Groundstaff have gone off and just a few people in the ground"
Ravi Shastri: "Really tense match going on between the rain & covers. It has gone down to the wire!! All 3 results possible!!"
And his twin adds his two cents. Ravi Neel Shastri: "it rains and rains hard.....the drops are coming like tracer bullets, no chance of play whatsoever"
 
It will be a real shame if this ends up a drawn series.

I didnt give India the slightest of hope in this series but they have done brilliantly.

South Africa will not be happy at all even more so that they choked in last match after doing so well to get to where they did.
 
Csa and bcci need to hold urgent talks with each other to have a new year test from 2nd-6th jan in capetown.

looks like that . we will lose at least 50-60 overs today & another 50 over next 3 days . That means effectively 250 overs left in the game . Impossible to eke out a result even if Ind collapses to say 350 all out which looks improbable .
 
btw , Pujara now has 1546 runs in 17 tests at a average of 70.27 :bow:

yes we did & the absence of a 5th bowling option was the reason . I mentioned it during Perth test when Stokes first bowled [ pre-century] that Eng have found a more than useful no 6 . His bowling will be invaluable in tests .
 
0-0 is still a credible result for India and a bad one for SA, but this could have been glorious.
 
cricinfo : The covers are absolutely drenched, and to make things worse, there is very little wind out there to blow the clouds away. Whatever crowd has remained are huddled under umbrellas, except for the kids who are out there playing their own cricket. The clouds above the ground look rather ominous too.

you are talking as if India was on the brink of a win.Last test SA was closer to win then Indi while it was too early to call in this one. Great stuff from India but to say they were close to something glorious is totally wrong.
 
SA had this coming after their performance in the last Test.

It should have been 1-0 and a draw here would have mean't nothing.

Well it depends on how wet the outfield is.
 
Considering the time lost in this test, will MSD contemplate declaring at say 450 on day 3 ?
 
11 : 45 Local Time, 15:15 IST:Even as we are in the middle of the lunch break, it has stopped raining and the covers are being removed. Shaun Pollock is hopeful about a 12:30 PM restart (16:00 IST).

if we get around 50 overs of play today, we would be around 330 at close of play . Should MSD declare at lunch on day 3 ?

73 more overs today,if the light holds up,2 overs are done.
So assuming we don't lose any more further play,we have lost 29 overs yesterday and 15 today,which makes it a total loss of 44 overs.
If they extend play for an hour everyday from now,then we could make up for all the lost overs!
 
Looks like rain is going to save India this time.

Last match it was South African incompetence.
 
Get a decent score on the board promptly and sa will probably capitulate under the immense pressure

India should bat the whole day and try to get to 450,we still have 70 odd overs left.
 
But good inning nevertheless..

Too many breaks obviously not helping batsmen maintain their focus. Weird situation after all the hard work.

Yeah I agree.

13 overs till the new ball. If SA have India 3/4 down I think they'll feel there back in the game.
 
Just play out these 2-3 overs, spinners and Kallis will be on soon with new ball due in 10 overs.
