SL need exactly 300 to win from 300 balls. Its chase able but You need partnerships here.

Going fine so far. The only disturbance is the commentary of Russel Arnold.

Lovely ground by the way :)

Dilshan really desperate to win this one looks like it.

still it should be an easy chase for SL..
but i ll go with saffers

Just why is a spinner bowling in the 47th over? We already had Peterson hit twice out the ground a few overs ago.

You know it is a dead rubber when Duminy is bowling the 49th over as well ... when 2 runs are needed by SL.

300 was clearly not enough on this pitch. Plus the small, unrelated detail that Amla is the number one ODI batsmen in the world who guarantees at least a 50 almost every time he bats, that too in quick time.
Did you actually follow the game? Serious question. I don't think you did.

The Proteas top order had their best batting performance in a long time. Smith came out as if it was his last game (yip, their are rumours that he is being dropped) and he performed. Alviero Petersen batted fine.

AB moved himself up to #3 and was batting like a man possessed at one stage. At one stage Proteas were 171/1 in the 23rd over before Smith lost his wicket.

Amla was not missed. Kallis was missed. The guys who did not perform were Colin Ingram and FAF du Plessis. Steyn was also missed as his replacement Philander did not bowl out his overs.

AB experimented a bit too much with spin. Robin Peterson bowled an extra over that he shouldn't have and was punished (2 sixes). That changed the run chase with a few overs to go.

Also the experiment with the early batting powerplay by the Proteas when they were cruising with the runs, probably cost them the game. Lost 2 wickets in it and changed the momentum of the batting.

Of well, when it is a dead rubber, you can rest a few players and experiment. :)

5th ODI should be a good game at the Wanderers.

If Smith got 68 on that wicket than Amla would have got 200

Even though this is a hyperbole, it summarizes what I meant by saying "SA need Amla".

JAF, I actually did not follow the game, but I do agree with your overall assessment.

However, obviously, in theory, Hashim Amla is expected to do very very good based on how flat the pitch was. Probably much more than the 37 odd Peterson made.

He is currently the best ODI batsmen ever based on stats. I know he has only played 50 innings and it will be an extremely difficult task to maintain these stats but he is probably the first player named on the team sheet along with AB. IMO Amla is worth even more than Steyn in ODIs.
