India won in Australia with 5 proper bowlers , why this again.

They must be regretting not playing Pathan now.

i think the BCCI quite smartly realize that south africa is a much better team than australia ATM .. thus they would be happy to escape this series with a draw.
 
Gratz to Amla for his 150. I still don't really rate the bloke, but I have to admit he has improved since his debut. Can't ask for more than that of a player.

Though if Amla can score a 150 on this wicket, I'm expecting the likes of Sehwag, Tendy et al to score 200+ minimum - particularly as SA have no spinner of note. India should be able to post 1000 in their first innings.

amla is good against spin and does well in asian conditions.

wouldn't be surprised if he is the top saffie run getter this series.
 
We have heard a lot about Steyn and if he can perform on such rubbish pitches then i am sure the whole world will see him as the best fast bowler.

Little unfair to judge him on this pitch too . Not saying he can't do it (bowl them out quickly) but 3 for 80 on this pitch would take a lot of skill to be honest .

Not fair to judge him on his early career....he was 21 and only played 1 real year of first class cricket . He averaged 44 last season and 59 this season (not including this innings) ....he's a very good player and at 24 years of age can start to not only improve but dominate .

Overall the indian "stars" average at BEST 30 (tendulkar and ganguly..the others are less) runs against south africa (all pitches played on taken into acount) . They're kind of our muppets to be honest . We have just never seen them do anything significant against us and I hold that their averaged are inflated by playing most of their games on pitches like this. Turn the equation around and ask if amla had played half his tests on these wickets what his average would be ?

So the idea of them taking us apart isn't really something I've ever consider seriously . On this track maybe though they'll get a couple of runs.......
 
You guys will easily get over 450. What Smiffy has to think about is how many overs he will need to take 20 Indian wickets. Based on how the pitch is playing it will be a lot.

he will declare tonight regardless of score .....unless they are only 5 or 6 down....he will want the indians to bat tonight if possible after a days hard fielding to try and get a crucial wicket and deal a psychological blow to them over night .
 
amla gone..(silly run out) not a bad thing maybe entertainment wise...let's see the sloggers come in .

this is the type of pitch where even tailenders can score easily ..

rsa could still conceivably get 600+ (if smith so wishes).
 
whats SA doing 2.9 the run rate for the last 10 overs !

They need to score some quick runs and declare. They are in a really good position and need to look for a win.

Great effort by South Africa on the very first day of the test series. It doesnt matter how flat the wicket is or how spineless the indian seam attack has been. To score about 500 runs from majority of the batting line up untested by quality spin attack when two of your best batsmen against spin fail (Kallis and Prince) is a superlative effort no doubt.

Indian batsman at this moment would rather want to start their innings tomorrow. A lapse in concentration is quite possible after a whole day of staying in the field under the sun.

42 overs left in the day. I say bat for another 25 overs, get to about 575, and give the fast bowlers about 15 overs at the end of the day.
 
I think S.A will want to bowl about 15 overs tonight to india to try and get a wicket .

Morkel has good tecnique...would be great if he could keep averaging around 30 to make up for the loss of pollocks batting .
 
South africa will try and hit out after tea . With a bit of luck they could score another 100 in 20 overs and bowl 17 overs at india tonight .

Maybe they will . At this stage it's unlikely if S.A need to bat again that there will be time to win the game anyway . May as well get as many on the board while the pitch is playing well and make inda bat on the crumbling wicket .
 
Harris can bat a little too , come to think about it . Maybe no slogging just yet .

S.A will bat 10 more overs maximum today . If they dont get bowlerd out they could set a first innings total of 550-570 .

i think SAFS bowling attack is agressive and the fielding, and i think they will force india in to getting caught out n the run outs an maybe the slip field catches will count to SAFs victory

Only 1 wicket was caught behind off a fast bowler...only 1 wicket for whole saffer innings came from fast bowlers in fact.....I dont think the pitch is offering anything .
 
haha 1 or 2 bad days from the indian team and suddenly there are no indians on pakpassion.

Me too . But I doubt he'll able to maintain pace or worry anyone with bouncers/yorkers in this heat and on this pitch.
 
India getting a few easy boundaries due to S.a have 5 slips and gullies . Steyn up to 146 now .
 
steyn hits jaffer on the head . Pitch really is flat though . How boring is this cricket ?

Sadly yeah . That kind of pitch . I was looking forward to this series , but if the pitches are going to be like this both teams may as well have stayed at home .

What a borefest - If the wicket doesnt do something by tomorrow they may as well shake hands and move over to the next destination.
 
Two days gone by and barely I logged in to check the score. High time that boards get punished for producing such wickets. These wickets are doing nothing but indirectly advertising & promoting T20 format and its other related variants.

the curator team saying they didn't get enough time to prepare the pitch as there was a domestic game two weeks ago. then the rain dampened the preparation etc. any case, we shouldn't forget that Chennai pitch used to be result oriented unless a wash-out.
 
SA takes day 2 again...great performance and Amla especially looked classy with those 3 fours in a row. What do you know, a saffer that actually plays spin well!

All depends on India now. As jusarrived said, if we score at the same rate...let's even say 3.5 for tomorrow, we should end up with 397 by the end of day 3. If we bat another 60 overs from there at 4 RPO, we'll have 637, and that's 97 runs ahead. Then hopefully the track will start doing something and we can press an advantage.

If India gets past the follow on target with less then 6 wickets in hand, we cannot lose this match.

i can safely say that if sehwag had gotten out earlier

then it would have been 50-3
 
This will be a draw. India should bat on till Day 5 before declaring their first innings closed.

But he is playing against SA not Pakistan. So he will get out soon. he need some lollypop bowlers like sami and akthar to score 300.lol.
