Sri Lanka (248/7) overwhelm India (138) by 110 runs to clinch the 3 match ODI series by a 2-0 margin

The pitch looks like a 5th day Test pitch in India.

However, that should not be an excuse. Surrendering meekly is horrible. No fight shown by anyone.

They look completely disinterested.

Yes I know this is a meaningless nothing burger series , but great teams always give their best on the field irrespective of the opponent or the occasion. This team looks like they're treating the game as an extended net session.

Pretty meaningless series. Ind still in party mood. However, I don't recall seeing IND look this hapless in years. Still great result for SRL.

Victory for Cricket, victory for Sri Lanka what a series win, the Gambhir Era has started and some posters where saying we need to be scared hahaha what a match by Sri Lanka

Jayasuriya beat us for fun as a player and now he's beating us as a coach.

Batting failure sees India lose ODI series to Sri Lanka after 27 years

Sri Lanka registered a historic series win over India as they beat them by 110 runs in the third and final ODI of the series on Wednesday, August 7 at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. After opting to bat first, Sri Lanka posted a good score of 248/7 riding on a magnificent innings by Avishka Fernando of 96 (102). In reply, India were bundled out for 138 in 26.1 overs. Dunith Wellalage was the star with the ball for the hosts as he picked up 5/27 in 5.1 overs

Some Indian fans were full of hubris after the World T20 win.

Pride comes before downfall as they say.

Great win for SL. They played with heart. Should've won the 3rd T20I also.
In fact many fans in India would be still relishing the world cup victory and they might not bother (or even aware) about this tour!!!

Good because 2024 World T20 is probably the final trophy India may win in a long time.

It is because Rohit and Kohli are about to retire. Bumrah is also aging. Shami will probably retire soon also.

And then there was silence.

Lankans have sent Indian PPers on a month long sabatical.

Actually it will be the other way. Ind will win more icc events frequently from now on. The next gen ind players that are coming in are terrific. As i said before- every single icc tr3in the next 10 years will be won either by Aus ind eng. And the t20 batting emerging from ind is really good- jaiswal abhishek rinku parag etc..

And for ban - they have lost to usa in a home series. So maybe they should arrange a revenge home tour to avenge that loss! 😂

Congrats to all Lankans for handing out a brutal beating and jobbing out India, they deserve to be disqualified from the CT, don’t blame them for not wanting to play in it, their brian cells are only wired for T20’s these days.

So happy for Jayasuriya, you deserve it mate

Hence proved Indian team is nothing without Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli & Jasprit Bumrah

Not a single Indian cricketer managed to score a half-century except Rohit Sharma in the recently concluded series who crossed the mark twice .

SL played better. No shame there. But it was good series for ind to identify dead wood. Hopefully klrahul is dropped forever. Pant is still not a white ball player. And jaiswal has to open period. The 25 CT will be the swansong for seniors and the next gen exciting ind batting talent can truly take over . This loss is good- showed their inadequacies.

And aa CT will be hybrid model- if 2nd country is SL- then Ind has gotten valuable game time and practice time! 😀

Well done SL. Congratulations on a famous series win.

Congratulations SL.
An ODI series win against India after 27 long years/ 8 ODI series , is certainly a win to be cherished.

SL making a solid case to replace India in Champions Trophy lol
Even so the biggest protest will.come from pcb. Just an fyi. If any - SL replacing pak makes it a much solid case with the way pak is playing and a better replacement as well. Food for thought

I think you’ve missed the dry humour

Btw i dont know why Samson not getting chances in ODIs, he has been successful in odis and complete failure in t20is but some strange reason he get repeated chances in t20is but not in ODIs..

Well done, SL. Good to see teams doing well in ODI's. It's a format worth preserving

The new crop of Indian players are not as good as the one which retired or on the verge of retiring. I don’t think India would be as dominant as they have been since 2011 in limited overs cricket.

This series has broken the belief of many (including mine) that Indian batting is not as strong on proper spin wickets in Sri Lanka as one might thing.

Also I didn't so much motivation from the team in this series. Maybe the celebration fever is still going on.

Gill has been the biggest disappointment. He looks to be a timid player.

The Lankan ladies started it and their men followed it. What an amazing turn around by SL. They are a proud cricketing country but have been in shambles until recently. Hope their form continues and they become a force again. As far as India goes, forget this series was.played and quickly move on. Middle order needs to be sorted out. Indian team probably has the most depth now than ever with Axar and Sundar but the middle.order is too brittle. Rahul, Iyer need to start scoring. Pant shouldn't be part of ODIs. Time for Kohli to say good bye.

Congratulations to Sri Lanka on this monumental achievement! Beating this Indian team is no small feat. This is undoubtedly one of the most glorious moments in the history of not only Sri Lankan cricket but also in the history of cricket itself.

Finally seeing the place Indian team getting found out on rank turning tracks. Kohli is not the same player anymore as we saw from his prime from 2011-19.

What a great relief it is to see India losing bilateral series but winning an ICC trophy! I was so bored of watching them win almost every bilateral series, even against the strongest teams, only to crumble in ICC knock-outs. This is a refreshing change for us, finally.

It's funny how those who were trolling India for winning almost every bilateral series and calling it useless are now bashing India for losing one.

What a fantastic series this was for Sri Lanka. Almost the whole bowling lineup was injured but they still managed to win the series against India. It was absolute domination in the ODI games.

Apart from Rohit, the whole indian team is to be blamed for this loss.

Spinners script record as Sri Lanka end 27-year-long wait with memorable series win

Led by Dunith Wellalage's five-wicket haul, Sri Lanka produced a memorable performance to beat India 2-0 in the ODI series.

Sri Lanka produced another dominant performance with the ball to beat India comprehensively in the third and final ODI to complete a 2-0 series win, their first over India since 1997.

After 27 years of not beating India in an ODI series, the hosts produced some extraordinary cricket to prevent the visitors from winning a single game.

The first match ended in a tie after a strong comeback from India, but there were no such let-ups in the following games as Sri Lanka's spinners took 27 out of the 30 India wickets to fall during the series.

Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka was thrilled with the performance of his side and paid a special tribute to the efforts of his spin bowlers.

"The biggest positive was winning a series against India after 27 years," Asalanka said.

"The other big positive were the spinners. We had relied on Wanindu Hasaranga, but we've had (Jeffrey) Vandersay and Dunith playing well here too."

Asalanka was pleased with the way Sri Lanka rebounded from the T20I series against India when they were swept 3-0 and believes his side is starting to show more maturity.

"As a team we tried to create a good environment, after talking to the coach," Asalanka said.

"We tried to give a lot of freedom to our players and to show their talent. We don't put much pressure on them. We identify what the positives and negatives are and we back their strength. If they fail it's not a problem. If you have that backing you can play against a good team like this. In the T20s though we lost there were positives in our top order. I knew as a captain that when we play to our potential, we can compete against the best."

India skipper Rohit Sharma was disappointed with his side's performance and especially with the way the batters fell to Sri Lanka's impressive spin attack.

"I don't think it's a concern," Rohit said.

"But it's something we need to look at seriously, into our individual game plans. We were definitely put under pressure throughout the series. We need to look into it, do something differently, need to talk about it and come back with different plans."

India don't play another ODI until early in the new year and Rohit is hoping for a response from his team prior to the ICC Champions Trophy tournament in February.

"A series loss doesn't mean the end of the world," Rohit said.

"These guys have been playing good cricket for the past few years. Yes, we will lose a one-off series here and there, what's important is how we move on from this and how we can come back."

Avishka Fernando had led Sri Lanka's charge early on in the third ODI with a 102-ball 96 and Kusal Mendis continued the good work through until the final overs with a half-century.

The hosts set the biggest target in the series thus far as the batters did their part of the job to perfection.

India's batting, which had collapsed from 75/0 to 132/5 (in the first ODI) and 97/0 to 147/6, continued to struggle against spin. They were reduced to 63/3 in the first 10 overs before Wellalage removed Virat Kohli, Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer in quick succession to make it 82/6.

With 27 wickets for the series, the Sri Lankan spinners posed the biggest threat for India. This is the most number of wickets India have lost to spinners in a bilateral ODI series. The previous highest was the 19 they had lost to Pakistan back in 1996.

This is also the most wickets Sri Lankan spinners have taken in a bilateral ODI series of no more than three games.

In fact, the 43 wickets that fell to spin in this series are the most in a bilateral series of three matches or fewer.

Jeffrey Vandersay, Wellalage and Charith Asalanka led the show with the ball for Sri Lanka, topping the wickets chart. Vandersay produced the best figures in the series with a six-wicket haul in the second ODI.

Wellalage, who was a star at the ICC Men's U19 Cricket World Cup 2022, shone brightly with a five-wicket haul on Wednesday in the third and final game.

Despite the absence of their star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga in the final two matches, Sri Lanka were at their best through the middle overs, choking the run-flow and picking up regular wickets.

The Sri Lankan team will next head to England to play three ICC World Test Championship matches.

Wrong decision by Gambhir & Agarkar to pick Rohit, Virat, Rahul & Shreyas for this ODI series.

Rohit-Virat hadn't played since the T20WC final & Rahul-Shreyas hadn't played since the IPL.

No practice matches & expecting them to score runs on dry wickets turning square under lights is too much to ask. India should have won the first ODI, they handed it to Sri Lanka with brainfade of Dube & Arshdeep.

India should have continued with the T20 guys with Gill or Pant as captain. Anyways congrats to Lanka for winning a bilateral series after 27 years.

The result clearly shows Dube isn't suited for ODIs, Siraj didn't look interested at all & only one of Shreyas or Rahul should play ODIs moving forward. Likes of Jaiswal, Samson & Ruturaj should be picked for ODIs.

This Indian team has always struggled against spin bowling, they have lost 4 test matches in India in last 10 years when they faced quality spinners of Australia & England on dry wickets of Pune, Chennai & Indore.

Sri Lanka now have got the blueprint to dominate teams at home. They won all the tosses & were lucky they didnt had to bat second, but after recent disappointments(50 allout & 55 allout) vs India, they will take anything.

Btw Sri Lanka also beat Australia in 2022 & South Africa in 2021 in ODI series in Sri Lanka if i am not wrong. It's just that Sri Lanka haven't won regularly in past few years that victories like these are enjoyed as winning as if the series was Asia Cup or some ICC trophy.

LOL.

SL won the series 2-0 because they played well. I think you should give them credit.

Are Indians back yet?

I was watching the highlights like, ooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh FERNANDO!!!!!!

The Indians who prepared the highlights package were crying while making it, all the lankan boundaries and wickets didn’t get a double replay :(

Need to cut India some slack. Even ATG teams like WI, Australia have lost the odd series here and there. It doesn't wipe out what the team and the players have achieved in the past. After a big T20 WC win, a loss in the immediate series can be expected especially since there was not a big gap hence the players were still mentally in celebratory mode.

Excellent by Lanka, well done to them , let’s see how we bounce back from this

Oh how the times change!

Pakistanis used to taunt Indians for only winning "useless bilaterals" and not winning big trophies. And now that we have won an iCC world title literally a month ago, they're the ones left celebrating our nothing burger series loss. How desperate!! :ROFLMAO:
