You need these type of openers in tests. Technically sound, gritty and able to fight it out on any track. Australia's ATG team had Langer who was instrumental in setting up many of their victories and it gave Hayden the license to attack because he knew he had a dependable partner.

Test cricket is not easy. SL have played 47 overs and haven't yet scored 100 runs! Wow. This is why Test cricket is awesome, proper contest between bat and ball.
You focus on winning sessions, grind the opposition out!

Relax. Keeping your long on and long off up after a wicket are basic field settings to restrict the opposition from taking singles resulting in pressure. This is just an example, obviously not basing my opinion based off of this alone.

He is a calm and collected person but isn't the sharpest cricketing mind out there. A good captain but very defensive and lacks that innate cricketing sense.

Hafeez is bowling as Misbah want to block runs. Misbah and Dhoni are similar type of tacticians, they want to build pressure by stopping runs and then earn wicket unlike Mc Cullum or Virat Kohli. You may call it defensive but this is how they operate.
