Steve Smith phenomena - Who will be able to stop him?

It was so good to see Smith bat today. Pure class. He will be back to his number one spot by the end of this WC. I really like Kohli but Smith has always been better than him.

Smith and WC performances go hand in hand, hit 2 50s and a 100 in thr knockouts last time in the best knockout WC performances by a batsman that I can remember.

Smith is not tied to a format or tournament for performance - hes just a run making machine who is almost impossible to get out. Best batsman in the world for a reason. King Smith.

kohli is a choker, while smith is a player every team wants to be in their team in big matches

His bilateral ODI record is nothing special, he just went Bradman mode in the knockouts last time. When Watson was struggling against Wahab, Smith was playing him like he was a fast-medium trundler

Thats a pretty reasonable conclusion bro.

Bloke who averages 60 with a better strike rate is a choker over 40 odd averaging Smith.

Kohli has also been reaching Smith levels in tests during the past few years, he's unstoppable.

When all the batsmen looked uncomfortable, Smith’s knock was very fluent. The guy handles pressure like Bevan, have to see which team gets Smith out cheaply. Getting Smith out cheaply is as good as winning the World Cup :inzi

I have a feeling Wahab Riaz has something in store for him.

Not sure if srs but Smith played him like a club bowler in 2015 when Watson was struggling at other end

Irrespective of his performance in previous WC, I can't really categorize him among the excellent ODI bats. He can perform in big games but he is not a feared limited overs cricketer.

Warner’s pathetic knock didn’t help him. The game was out of his reach and he was never going to chase down a RRR of 11.

Another impactless innings played by him. Quite a few of his boundaries were through edges just like the one against WI. Besides, he hardly ever looked threatening. In this day and age of scores of 350-odd, he is a total misfit.

This guy looks dangerous.... don't know how to get him out because of his batting style

Dangerous, only if RRR is within control. If it isn't, then he isn't of much use.

Ugly or not, there is something very satisfying about watching him bat. Trying to visualise the thought process behind the genius....

Steve Smith has once and for all proved that technique and aesthetics in batting are overrated.
