In what appears to be a concerted campaign out of Saudi Arabia, tens of thousands of Saudis are tweeting their support of U.S. President Donald Trump and his aggressive rhetoric against Iran, the other main power in the region that is challenging Riyadh for dominance.

Last week, those words thrilled many Sunni Arabs in the region who fear Iran's return to the international community. But this week, Saudi propagandists appear to have engineered a Twitter campaign to boost support for Trump in an apparent attempt to influence the new president.

Vocativ found the hashtags #TrumpStopsIranianTerrorism and #TrumpWarnsIranianTerrorism have appeared over 80,000 times since Saturday, and likely created in accounts of Saudi influencers who tweeted "Trump is the best leader in the world" and thanked Trump for his statements against the Iranian regime. Vocativ found that the vast majority of the tweets using these hashtags came from Saudi Arabia and that the most retweeted posts came from leading pro-Saudi accounts and influential journalists affiliated with the monarchy.

Tweets posted alongside the hashtags included portrayals of Trump as Captain America, James Bond or a knight in shining armor, standing atop a military tank. In one image Trump is carrying a bald eagle over his shoulder. "There is no Obama anymore," the caption read. Others show Trump standing beside King Salman and that the two leaders are trying "to protect the whole world."

Politics makes strange friends !!

BJP Govt welcomed UAE prince for Republic day celebrations as its chief guest. The Sanghis were giving hugs to Arabs :))

China (communist) country are best buddies of a strict religious country like Pakistan.

Its all about business and mutual interests. Everything else takes back seat.

I was talking to this saudi guy the other day and he too said that he supports trumps efforts to protect his country. Came across as a shock to me really. I didnt know the common people too think this way there.

If Pakistan is strict religious then what are Saudia and Iran? Heck we are even more liberal than the likes of Qatar, UAE, Kuwait etc.

Women are not required to wear burqa when stepping out of the house, women can drive in Pakistan, women are allowed to vote, they can leave the house alone. For those people who indulge in it, getting alcohol is no problem. Men and women work side by side in corporate settings, heck alot of women even work in factories and industries. In terms of liberalism Pakistan is just a few steps behind India and no where near as "strict religious" as you are shown in your media.

Fascists all around the world are happy over Trump win and are hoping that Trump would take their side. If Trump had banned Saudis instead of Iranians, Iranian mullahs would have been praising Trump. Safe to say such people are opportunistic with no principles.

Agree completely with Saeed ...if one looks at the Tweets ...the reason for the support is Trumps hostility towards Iran ...Its not unusual at all to see this reaction ...

Adding to your point we had a female Prime Minister twice while some liberal countries are still waiting for one. We also had female foreign minister, information minister, speaker and opposition leader. More thn half of the current affairs show hosts/anchors in Pakistan are female talking about politics all the time.

The peoples of this region are just too emotional. Remember how the West during the Iran-Iraq war fuelled the conflict with weapons to both camps (the more it'd last, the more money they'd milking). Until and unless we come to the realization that our perennial enemy is the capitalist-liberal Anglo-American bourgeois mindset and its imperialistic emanations I'm afraid this circus will go on.

Strict religious country, that title belongs to India in South Asia.

Now if only Saudi Arabia too objected to Trumps ban how would that have gone down in the Muslim world.

United we stand ...some countries figure heads need their heads examined.

Wait until some of these Saudi tweeters go to the States, get stopped at airport Immigration and are ,as Trumps says, given an "EXTREME vetting".

Trump may be buddy buddy with the Gulf Arabs top brass due to his personal business interests and Trump hotels, but I'm betting the U.S. airport security staff have not forgotten as to which country's nationals evaded their airport security measures and caused 9/11.

In this anti-Muslim sentiment sweeping the States, the Saudis won't be exempted. Once in the States, I wonder if they realise the 'extra ingredients' hotel and restaurant staff often add to their foods when they are found to be Saudi citizens?

Sad little racist country, though barring Arab lovers, we all knew that anyway.

Saudis need to stop with this rabid anti-Iran hatred and paranoia that has been consuming their foreign policy, and work with them to stabilise the region.

If any Muslims get discriminated against due to the atmosphere created by Trump, then in addition to expressing your opinions publically (peacefully), make sure you pass at least some of the blame onto Saudis.

Would someone really tell me what is this bad about IRAN that promotes so much vitiol against them from the oil states and most of the islamic world and the west ?

I mean, I really haven't heard anything bad about Iran compared to some of the things the Saudi has done(extremist funding , 911 etc). I've always had the impression that Iran has more or less tried to be self reliant and protective of itself due to its isolation by the rest of middle east (The Sunni-Shia thing ) and the west's opposition because they overthrew their appointed puppet..

Pakistanis are lot more religious than Indians. Its not even close.

Most Hindus are name sake Hindus. Only the middle aged and old Hindus tend to be into religion and it is understandably.
All the Pakistanis I met are very religious. They don't miss a prayer, only eat halal and follow the rituals. Most posters on PP also give me this vibe of being very religious. Even your cricketers are like that.

You don't get out much I take it.

It's mainly because the oil states on the other side of the 'Persian' Gulf are Sunni, while Iran is Shia. The latter believe that Prophet Muhammad's cousin and son-in-law Ali was chosen by Allah to rule after Muhammad, while the Sunnis believe that his friend and advisor Abu Bakr was the rightful “caliph” of Muslims. This was the origin of this regional squabble, but obviously the mix now represents many generations of political hoohaas added in.

That only explains the animosity towards Iran from Saudi Arabia and its sidekicks though; there are other reasons for the United States and Western powers not getting along with it either. In all these cases, Iran doesn't really come across as the bad guy in my opinion. They have been unfairly maligned.

What do Saudis know about politics? I can recall from the Gulf war in 1990, they have always supported the American president

Pakistanis maybe more conservative in general especially poor and lower middle class but like Syed says they don't have an extreme hardline culture like many gulf countries and like he says don't believe everything your Indian media tells you about Pakistan. I suggest you read it hard and digest what he says.

Read about the Iran-Iraq war from 1980-88.

Over a million died for nothing, as the war achieve nothing. But the gulf states backed it against Iran as soon as the Shah took over in the 1979 revolution and ever since then there has been bad tensions between Iran and Arab gulf countries especially Saudia Arabia.

Nope, Irani mullahs are not naive.
