Jaag Raha Hai Pakistan

I recall from my younger years when this milli tarana (motivational national song) used to be played on Radio Pakistan.

Of course, this was done in the 1971 and probably in 1965 when we were at war with India.

We loved this song as kids but I never fully understood the meaning of this song apart from it being a catchy number and one we could march to, to show national fervour.

But the events of the previous few days have made the meaning clear to me.

Pakistan has been woken, some would say jolted, up by how the country has reacted when confronted with the forces of evil of the type not seen for years.

Yes, this is not over yet as The Sharif Brothers and their money-grabbing cronies will do what they will to hold on to power and their sources of incomes.

But what has been shown by the multitudes of young and old, who were mercilessly beaten, abused, thrown in jails by the very people who are tasked to defend the nation and its streets is that the Pakistani Qom's zameer (their inner sense of right and wrong) is alive.

In the last week, I have been moved by accounts from my own acquaintances, some in their 70s who have gone on to the street to protest against what they see is an obscene takeover of their lives by a well-known gang of thieves.

They refused to bow down to the forces of evil unleashed by the power hungry and in Imran Khan who to my knowledge has never walked away from any challenge - whether on the field of cricket or in his his public life - they have a leader who will never disappoint them and one who will inspire them to greater heights.

We have seen a new Pakistan emerge in the past 3-4 years and that journey is threatened by the Jihala unleashed by the Sharifs and their dutiful cronies, but make no mistake, the old and young of Pakistan have had enough of the old days and will not allow darkness to return to our country ever again.

The road ahead will be a tough one as newer challenges will be thrown at us but whatever happens from now, the people in power know what they are up against. This is not the nation of subservient sheep of the past. These aren't people who can be subjugated with toy soldiers that the Sharifs can bring on the streets - This is a nation of Bravehearts led by a Cornered Tiger who grows in strength with every new attempt to subdue him.

There will be no return to darkness.

Excellent write up

POTW, I don’t know if it’s in the rules for mods, but I would like to vote for it Saj MenInG

To be honest, I've also been inspired by what's happened in the past few days. No way is Imran corrupt.

It was sad to see him being arrested in such a way.

He is the hope of many.

It has to be POTW.

Problem is there is zero mention in this thread of who Imran Khan is fighting. Why is everybody on here afraid of mentioning the Army ? Sharifs and Bhuttos are just politicans that can be vanquished at the ballot box, I don't see the point in casting them as the opponent here.

Pakistanis are still refusing to accept the crux of their problem, that khaki problem they've had since 1950.

He is fighting the forces of evil.

Whether it wears a uniform or a hair transplant is not important.

There are many many in uniform who are good, honest people so we will not generalize.

This is the type of Jihala from the Sharifs is what Pakistanis are faced with.

An Islamabad district and sessions court on Saturday declared inadmissible an application pleading that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s marriage was ‘illegal’.

Civil Senior Judge Nasr Minullah Baloch reserved his decision and later announced that the plea was inadmissible. In its decision, the court further said that the matter of marriage during the period of iddat was beyond its jurisdiction.

The iddat period is a waiting period that a Muslim woman must observe on account of the death of her husband or the dissolution of the marriage.

The alleged un-Islamic nikkah of Imran and Bushra Bibi was brought to light by a petition filed by Muhammad Hanif, a citizen of Pakistan.

Mufti Saeed, the cleric who solemnised the couple's marriage, had claimed that the initial ceremony was not conducted in accordance with Islamic Sharia law. He mentioned having a positive relationship with Imran Khan and being a part of his core committee. He stated that he was taken by Imran Khan to Lahore's DHA to officiate the couple's Nikkah in 2018.

Saeed stated that he officiated the marriage between Imran and Bushra on January 1, 2018, based on the assurance of the woman. Following the wedding, the couple began living together in Islamabad, he added.

Read Imran claims 'hit on head' during arrest on May 9

However, Imran contacted him again in February 2018 and requested him to conduct the nikkah again, saying that at the time of their first nikkah, Bushra's iddat period had not been completed as she was divorced in November 2017. Therefore, Imran deemed their first nikkah to be not in accordance with Sharia.

During today’s hearing the court inquired how the former premier’s marriage in Lahore became the jurisdiction of the Islamabad sessions court.

To this, the petitioner's lawyer said that the “fraud” started at Bani Gala and the marriage took place in Lahore.

According to the lawyer, the process of the marriage started in Islamabad so the matter would fall under the jurisdiction of the Islamabad court.

“Imran Khan was eager to become the prime minister, so he got married during the iddat period,” he alleged.

Remember when Rana and others said that PTI is lying. We have an ex PM being beaten up, we have had journalists killed, workers killed and judges blackmailed and attacked.

I dont think we should worry about personal opinions as there will be many.

One important point that Imran made:

Overseas Pakistanis are the ones who will pull Pakistan out of all troubles, no need to go running to IMF or ask for alms from countries.

Regardless of some in Pakistan, the overseas Pakistanis have a huge role to play which they will.

I agree with you guys on many things. But unfortunately I disgaree on this.

The Pakistani public are too set in their ways. People vote because of the their clan rather than who is honest or has a better mandate.

I had hoped that we saw something like the Turks when they failed to overthrow Erdogan but it never came. I don't see it ever coming, the public are not the same.

Even my own cousins in Pakistan were celebrating Imran Khan's arrest - there is no reasoning to be had with them.

I am just pointing out the hypocrisy of people that ignore or encourage the beating and killing of innocent people and when challenged, they run like Usain Bolt or feign ignorance

When Imran’s audio sex tapes leaked, I thought his political career was over. I would have never imagined that in a ultra conservative country like Pakistan, people can forgive someone much less than rally behind him to get back to power.

We are talking about today.

Do you actually understand the matter at hand and what the country is faced with?

Stay on topic.

I worry about the future of Pakistan more now than I have in the past.

It seems like there will be a lot of dark days ahead for this nation given the direction it's heading towards.

The mafia are not willing to let go. They have realised that they have no support but don't seem to care. Our Generals have destroyed our unity in 1971 and are quite happy to do it again.

Can you give a source and what happened. But are you seriously comparing a slap( if it happened)with the murder and torture of journalists. Arshad Sharif was hounded out of PK and tracked to Kenya and murdered. IR Khan has been kidnapped by the Junta. Zille Shah, Dr Rizwan were murdered. Police attacked the house Usman Dar and threatened to rape his mum. Only a total beghairat ignores the mayhem and murder unleashed by these thugs

I really hope Pakistan awam is actually becoming politically conscious.

The truth will set you free! but first it will make you miserable.

Well summed up MIG, perfectly captured the mood of Pakistanis and their future dreams.

Unfortunately it's pleasant to think this. Reality is the Pakistani people have gotten what they deserve. Leaders are the image of the people. Corruption and shortcuts are pervasive in everyday life.

Nothing will change. Country will default and by next century we will be so weak that India will consume us and we will be an Indian state. Sad reality but better to face it.

Guy never ran away, credit where due, faces the chin music.

Sharifa by now would had been airlifted from the hospital

Just because you like imran doesnt mean he is the correct leader for everyone else.

This is the issue with posters here. For them there cant be any other leader, its just imran and disagreeing is being anti state. Just like how bjp supporters call bjp critics as anti state or traitors.

People will vote who they see as a person that has sensible policies.

While imran fights for an election through democracy, many people including me are aware of his policies that sent back this country 20 years further and know the coet thats with voting someone like him in.

Stop expecting pwople to blindly follow your pov.

It all happened uneer his watch and he allowed it and was himself involved.

Despite being a diehard PMLN supporter, I am saddened by Shehbaz Sharif's approach to all of this. Ordering the shutting down of Internet services and talking about dealing with PTI supporters with an iron fist.

This was a golden opportunity for him to take the sensible, correct decision of stepping down as PM and calling nationwide elections as soon as possible.

Not woken up on this issue. Its interesting how all the emotions are being charged up by side stepping this issue. Imran Khan in his speech was so cagey and economical with facts that I believe even he knows this is problem case for him.

Did you listen to his speech?

Not sure in Pakistan did because PDM blocked the YT despite PEMRA allowing it.

His explanation was clear about it.

As I tried to explain to you and your friends earlier, they wouldn't have created a 150 fake cases if they had one they knew they could be certain of prosecuting. You don't wait a year when you have such certainly. You don't use ISI and commandos and humiliate yourself on the World stage if you have a case. You don't arrest a guy of this stature without a warrant. We were told the Toshakhana was the smoking gun, what happened there? Remember Khwaja and his rona dona and then when they released the full inventory, he was amongst the worst.
You crooks are real in trouble. NS,The Witch and AZ have stolen cars. When is the prosecution

Taking on the Pakistan army in Pakistan is not a joke...and this guy is doing that..Is it for his power or for the good of the country??

He's not taking power, but asked for elections.

I don't think this is over, there's no way the army will bow down to civilian demands, irrespective of the right or wrong. They have a lot to loose, especially the status of never being held accountable for any of their hare brained plans.

The generals who enjoy massive privileges and plot allotments cannot face being questioned.

The establishment is laying low for now, but will come up and strike again.

If I am right, elections are in October right? So why create so much ruckus when he could easily wait for a few more months?

Khan sahib you know the drill. You did the crime, you do the time sir.

Great post MIG. Imran Khan is a generational leader, true inspiration and great role model. Even Bilawal or most recent politicians in years down the line will be singing IK's praises in the very same Parliament.

The opposition PTI has decided to lodge a case against the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Rangers over the “abduction” of its chairman Imran Khan from the premises of Islamabad High Court last week.

The PTI will also lodge cases over the “murder of unarmed citizens at peaceful protests” across the country.

“The interior minister, as well as Punjab and Khyber Pakhtun*khwa chief ministers and police chiefs, will be nominated in these cases,” the party resolved.

It demanded that a high-powered commission comprising Supreme Court judges should be constituted to investigate the killing of unarmed citizens as well as the attempts to incite protesters to create anarchy in the country.

PTI chairman says democracy at ‘all-time low’ in Pakistan

The decisions were taken at a meeting of party leaders, chaired by Imran Khan at his Zaman Park residence on Sunday.

PTI sources claimed that at least 24 people have reportedly been killed and around 700 others injured during the series of demonstrations by PTI supporters across the country. They added that over 3,500 leaders and workers were picked by law enforcement agencies and taken to unidentified locations.

‘Propaganda rejected’

The PTI rejected what it called baseless propaganda against the party in light of May 9 violent incidents.

“PTI chief Imran Khan never deviated from the course of law and justice even when he faced the worst kind of situations in his political career,” the PTI stated and added that not a single stone was thrown during protests at thousands of locations in the country in the aftermath of an assassination attempt on Mr Khan on November 3 last year.

The party stated that the “false propaganda through the controlled media” aimed at protecting those who planned to create anarchy and unrest across the country.

The PTI strongly condemned the proposed “attack” on the Supreme Court by “seminaries students” led by PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

“The party condemns handing over of Islamabad and particularly its Red Zone to a private militia force of a ruling coalition party,” read the party statement.

Expressing solidarity with the Supreme Court, the PTI asserted that it would retaliate with full force if anyone tried to blackmail the Supreme Court from discharging its constitutional duties.

Elections

The PTI termed the government’s decision not to organise Supreme Court-announced general elections in Punjab on Sunday as a “murder of the constitution”.

It said the caretaker Punjab government had no constitutional or legal right to continue in office. The party meeting decided to finalise a legal course of action with regard to the future of caretaker governments in Punjab and KP.

Al Qadir Trust

The party meeting was given a detailed briefing about the Al-Qadir Trust case instituted against party chief Imran Khan and his wife. It termed the case a tactic to target Mr Khan and his wife for political victimisation.

The PTI central leaders meeting strongly condemned the ongoing crackdown and arrest of party leaders and workers and added that the party would go to all extents to legally assist the arrested associate of the party.

The PTI condemned the closure of the internet and the ban on social media sites that aimed at hiding the truth. It demanded that the federal government should restore the internet and open social media sites.

Protests on Sunday

A large number of people on Sunday staged peaceful protest demonstrations at several locations across major cities in the country on the call of PTI Chairman Imran Khan. The PTI spokespersons reported that police and Rangers arrested protesters to break up demonstrations.

A large number of peaceful protests were held in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Karachi and several other cities in the country and abroad as the social media websites were flooded with pictures and videos posted from other cities and abroad.

The PTI chairman had urged citizens to come out of their homes for an hour on Sunday afternoon and hold placards bearing inscriptions “Haqeeqi Azadi” and “Save Constitution – Save Pakistan”. People were also holding placards bearing inscriptions in favour of early elections.

Meanwhile, PTI spokespersons stated that the police had continued raiding the homes of party leaders and workers, broke household articles and harassed family members including women and children.

The spokespersons posted videos on social media websites where police could be seen torturing women and arresting them. PTI leader Shahbaz Gill posted a video showing policemen dragging women and others at Liberty Roundabout Park.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Farrukh Habib tweeted that Rangers and police were picking up citizens who came out for the supremacy of the Constitution. “Is it banana republic or Palestine or occupied Kashmir – where fundamental right to protest, right to assemble, right to speak have all been banned,” he asked.

PTI Lahore president Sheikh Imtiaz Mahmood posted a video on his Twitter account and stated that police raided his home and picked up his 16-year-old son, who was supposed to appear for his Cambridge examination on Monday (today). He also stated the police took away his passport during the raid.

Sky News interview

PTI chairman Imran Khan said democracy in Pakistan was at “an all-time low” and the judiciary was the only hope left for the restoration of rights and freedom of people.

In an interview with Sky News on Sunday, Mr Khan said the violation of fundamental rights in the country had reached unprecedented levels. He cited examples of his own experiences of being taken into custody and raids on his Zaman Park residence by the police on two occasions.

During a raid, he said, police used excessive force and broke down the doors of his house in his wife’s presence and termed it an “unprecedented and unsettling situation” for himself.

On the other hand, he lamented that some 150 cases had been lodged against him in the past few months.

The PTI chief condemned all kinds of violence in the wake of arson witnessed on May 9 in Lahore, Peshawar and other cities.

Recounting the incident when he was arrested, he recalled a moment of confusion and said, “Some individuals resembling commandos suddenly appeared at the time of my arrest. I thought they came for my security. However, I soon realised that they were after me.”

He also recalled the “shocking and abrupt” nature of the incident and said he momentarily believed that there was some terrorist in the room only to realise that he himself was the target.

“The excessive force used during the arrest left a lasting impression on me,” Mr Khan expressed his dismay at the brutal treatment by everyone involved. He went on to say, “The way they manhandled and beat everyone and arrested me was unsettling and shocking”.

Despite the challenges he has faced, the former prime minister said he had displayed unwavering determination and readiness to face imprisonment once again. “I am ready to go to jail again,” he maintained.

Expressing his belief that the ruling coalition in the PDM government was fearing elections, Mr Khan said, “The government is petrified of elections and they fear being wiped out by the PTI in the polls.” “The ruling coalition is only willing to hold elections if he will be incarcerated or killed,” he stated and added that two assassination attempts had already been made on his life.

I think battle lines are clearly drawn between IK and Army, PTI and current government, and finally between government and judiciary. Public support seems to be by and large with IK but as an outsider what i am unclear is what exactly is the support or the protest for? Is it to make IK the PM again and assuming that happens, does the public really believes that their lives will change. IK may not be as corrupt as other politicians but while he was the PM, did he deliver on anything significant for the people to be optimistic about the future?

I think its a mix of price rise and economy in tatters, which is making the public so vehemently supporting IK or opposing the government but in the end until the 'economy' issue is resolved in Pakistan, these protests/revolutions will bear nothing much. What to me is a structural issue in Pakistan (no economic plan for future), which is manifesting into these protests, needs a structural solution and nothing less will improve the livelihoods of the people. Without a sound and stable economic policy for the next 5-10 years, Pakistan will continue to struggle no matter who the PM is. Modi won 2019 because of direct benefit transfer to poor people and his welfare schemes, Kejriwal wins in Delhi because he provides free electricity and water to poor folks, Yogi won in UP because of free ration he has been delivering to poor folks in UP for more than an year and last week Congress won because of list of welfare schemes they have promised. Thing is India governments are able to do that because of economy.

Not too long back, there was a similar revolution in Egypt. Initially when Mobarak was thrown out, everyone thought the revolution was a success. However, now in 2023 if you look back, you realize that the revolution achieved nothing. The revolution ended in military rule for some time and finally elections but zero change in country’s political or economic institutions. Steep devaluation of the currency multiple times in the last 5-6 years only means people lost a significant part of their purchasing power.

While i wish all PPers good luck and hope they get to see whomsoever they want to at the helms of the affairs whether IK or Sharif but i have my doubts if anything material will come out of these protests or revolution or regime change. In the worse case, there is always the danger of military taking over.

The differences are alarming.

On one hand you have thieves and muderers running the country (Current Government + Amy).

coming to PTI/IK, what he was tying to achieve when in Government was to bring in education and enlighten the youth. Setting up a university for the poor and universal health care for the poor were things that could change the course of Pakistan forever. He was putting in long term plans that could bring the poor out of poverty and eradicate corruption so that the country actually had a future for everyone and not just the elite.

His goal was to have a country where anyone could be become PM not just the sons or daughters of "corrupt" politicians.

Regarding economics, everyone has seen what the PDM has done in the last 12 months but then you go back 30 years prior to 2018 and you had the same theiving politicians that looted money from the country and hence the lack of infrastructure, education and the suppression of the poor.

Even today, there is ten billion dollars worth of potential remittances from overseas Pakistanis. But they will only do this once IK is back as PM. Why? Because they know that if it lands in the hands of the current government it will be siphoned away.

It's a simple analogy. Good Vs Evil.

People have awoken and they know what is better for them in the long term.
A small percentage of the rich people are happy to have PDM (the coalition partners), because it retains the status quo for them. Pay little or no taxes and keep the poor surpressed meanwhile acquire land and wealth etc etc.
Thankfully for Pakistan, these are only a small minority of people.

Its hilarious how people see a cult group with 0 leadership as part of a revolution. TTP can do a better job than them in bringing a revolution.

PTI did not fix the education system, in fact it ruined it further and just Islamilized it. Every teacher was against the dumb move. Infact, many private schools ignored it and did not adopt the SNC because of how flawed it was.

Health? Again false story

IMF gave paksitan money to self generate money from its own economy. We had a health program that was running on an IMF loan, this program was never sustainable and could not run without imf loan money. You dont start health programs on loan money. Plus, to get his health card running, Imran closedd down govt hospitals in some districts which offer free health care already.

Economics? Inflation was still rising, it did not stop. You have wrote nothing relevent to economics just the same rambling looted, 30 years, thieves. Maybe had PTI done something with the economy you would had focused on writing that instead of the same rumbling.

Remittance is not a proud fact, it shows how much brain drain is happening and how the country relies on overseas money. Most remittance comes from Middle east and that will keep coming no matter who is the prime minister of pakistan.

No its not good vs evil. PTI is self proclaimed good?

People have not woken up, they have been misled by populist politics.

No, people dont support PDM because thye are rich and they retian their status qou. Again, plz live in Pakistan before giving false judgements while you live overseas and have no idea of ground realities.

People support PMLN and PPP due to the ideology and mandates that these party bring. PTI has no ideology and its just a cult group.

If you ahve actually been to Pakistan, people from Sialkot, Gujranwala dont vote PMLN because you say rich people are happy to have them, NO. They will vote them because the business community wants policies where the dollar rate is fixed by the govt, so that the imports they buy stay at stable prices and dont become expensive at the time of paying bills. Plus, people who want economic development will vote PMLN. However, Pakistan's current need is not economic development, thus the less support will be there for them..

For PPP, people that believe in policies like foreign policies, economic policies and domestic policies, they will vote for them. PPP expertise lie in making bills. PPP once bought Pakistan back from hyper inflation, thus, people will prefer them now to pass ills related to curbing inflation. Even for foreign policies, where currently Pakistan is at the lowest they would be preferred.

PTI has no ideology and stands for nothing.

What has the current government done since coming to power which has been fruitful for the country and how are you personally benefiting ?

I would like to think if most people were happy, they wouldn’t bother to protest, then again maybe you’re unaffected ?

Suspects who vandalised military installations will be tried under the Army Act and receive a very serious punishment such as a life sentence. This is ensure no PTI supporters will take to streets. Military has decided to crush PTI. I really feel for those who vandalised military installations - there is nobody to save them as Khan and PTI have distanced themselves from such vandals.

Plenty of Video evidence that these vandalizers were under cover ISI agents. Let the millitary bring it on, they cannot out man the Pakistani nation.

The Pakistan of today is a different place. There is genuine anger which I hope will not manifest itself in any more violence.

A civil war is out of the question as most of Pakistan believes in one leader.

Seems another opportunity for the Pakistani Qom to show their inner strength being provided.

Pakistan's former PM Imran Khan is in a standoff with authorities who have surrounded his house. In his first interview since a police deadline expired, Khan told DW an "unprecedented crackdown is taking place."

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who faces corruption charges, told DW on Thursday there is an "unprecedented crackdown taking place" in Pakistan.

Speaking with DW's Anja Kueppers-McKinnon, Khan said he believes he will soon be rearrested.

"7,500 of my workers have been arrested. All my senior leadership has been arrested. So what will happen? I don't know. But I expect to be rearrested," he said from Lahore.

Khan said it was done "in order to crush the party so that we don't contest the election, this is why all of this is happening."

Khan will ignore a summons by the country's anti-graft agency to appear before it on Thursday for questioning, his party spokesman said.

The summons comes after his arrest last week, on graft charges. The detention sparked violent clashes across the country in which at least 10 people were killed. He was freed from custody over the weekend after being granted protection from arrest in multiple legal cases against him.

Khan told DW he is facing 150 criminal cases ranging from corruption to terrorism.

"As someone who has been known in the country for 50 years, never committed one crime, suddenly, in the last few months, he has 150 cases, no one believes this," he said.

When asked whether he would tell his supporters to refrain from further violence, Khan said the situation has significantly calmed since his release — but said that a crackdown is taking place against his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

"There are no protests right now. There is no public disorder," Khan said. "But what is happening is that there's a crackdown, unprecedented crackdown, taking place."

The people of Gilgit Baltistan are certainly awake now.

They are demanding independence. Well done crooks and army chief. India will be loving this.
