Apnee Quwaat Apnee Jaan
La Illaha Illalah Mohammad-ur-Rasool-Allah
Har pal, har saa't, har aan
Jaag Raha Hai Pakistan
I recall from my younger years when this milli tarana (motivational national song) used to be played on Radio Pakistan.
Of course, this was done in the 1971 and probably in 1965 when we were at war with India.
We loved this song as kids but I never fully understood the meaning of this song apart from it being a catchy number and one we could march to, to show national fervour.
But the events of the previous few days have made the meaning clear to me.
Pakistan has been woken, some would say jolted, up by how the country has reacted when confronted with the forces of evil of the type not seen for years.
Yes, this is not over yet as The Sharif Brothers and their money-grabbing cronies will do what they will to hold on to power and their sources of incomes.
But what has been shown by the multitudes of young and old, who were mercilessly beaten, abused, thrown in jails by the very people who are tasked to defend the nation and its streets is that the Pakistani Qom's zameer (their inner sense of right and wrong) is alive.
In the last week, I have been moved by accounts from my own acquaintances, some in their 70s who have gone on to the street to protest against what they see is an obscene takeover of their lives by a well-known gang of thieves.
They refused to bow down to the forces of evil unleashed by the power hungry and in Imran Khan who to my knowledge has never walked away from any challenge - whether on the field of cricket or in his his public life - they have a leader who will never disappoint them and one who will inspire them to greater heights.
We have seen a new Pakistan emerge in the past 3-4 years and that journey is threatened by the Jihala unleashed by the Sharifs and their dutiful cronies, but make no mistake, the old and young of Pakistan have had enough of the old days and will not allow darkness to return to our country ever again.
The road ahead will be a tough one as newer challenges will be thrown at us but whatever happens from now, the people in power know what they are up against. This is not the nation of subservient sheep of the past. These aren't people who can be subjugated with toy soldiers that the Sharifs can bring on the streets - This is a nation of Bravehearts led by a Cornered Tiger who grows in strength with every new attempt to subdue him.
There will be no return to darkness.
