What's new

The 1st Test between Pakistan (438 & 311/8d) and New Zealand (612/9d & 61/1) ends in a draw

Weird decision, if they had plans to declare they should have told Saud to play his shots and get some more runs in last few overs.

Pakistan's chances of bowling us out in 15 overs is basically less than 1%.

I don't get this.

One of the stupidest things I've ever seen in the sport.

Should have just accepted the draw and look towards the second test. Now you've made nz favourites to win the game after all that hard work

Lol why drop nauman? he bowled brilliantly in 1st innings. 5 chances were dropped off his bowling.

so stokes was brave for his declaration regardless of result

but babar is a stupid

lmao you people are something else

win or lose this is a good declaration
Because Pakistan's chance of winning this is basically 0%.

Chances of losing 30-40%.

I don't think this is stupid but just meaningless. Stokes had 4 sessions to bowl Pakistan out. Pakistan has 14 overs or so.

Relax guys! Only 10-11 overs max would be bowled. The declaration is just to generate more revenue from the final 10 overs of the test match as people like me who were just browsing the scoreboard will now watch the match live to get entertained. :kp :ab

Wow Babar has taking stupidity to a new level.

NZ will probably open with Conway and Mitchell here.

Shameful stuff from Babar, pakistan have zero chance of winning here.

40 mins of play left only. No way they are going to score 140. Scoring 140 in that timeperiod is jst as unlikely as 10 wickets.

Pakistan have almost no chance of winning, that's the difference

Even an all time Pakistan bowling attack would struggle to bowl them out in under 15 overs

This declaration was unnecessary and just stupid

Exactly this.

It like the captain and coaches know they are on the way out and so they want to look aggressive etc.
Astonishingly stupid cricket

140 in 15 overs is possible tbh on this flat pitch against our bowling atk. Nz have nothing to lose they can go all out

Bracewell opening.

Need him to go hard and have a few big overs.

Babar fans can milk the declaration as sign of Manly, aggressive decision taken by their Captain in mould of Stokes.

Hahaha, this is easily the funniest captaincy decision I've ever seen in my years of watching cricket. Maybe trying to emulate Stokes in his own way without realizing that there aren't enough overs for Pakistan to force a result. Pakistan can only only lose from this position. NZ though have a slight chance of winning it. Why would a sensible captain give make a decision where only the opposition stands to gain. If there was ever a more glaring indictment of Babar's clueless captaincy this is it.

Most bizarre declaration ever

Bhai I am fuming. He thinks he will get all the plaudits but this declaration might seal his fate as the captain. I mean what he is going to achieve with this declaration? Just want to come across a brave skipper but this is foolishness of the highest order I have seen.

The thing is even if nz lose 5 wickets in the first 5 overs there's still no chance of winning as they can easily shut down and block out 10 overs

This got to be one of the most weird decisions. If Pakistan wants to make a match of it then why the hell do they have fielders spread out. It's like neither of us will win but we will still make our bowlers and fielders run around for an hour.

Bracewell gone, interesting to see how long NZ have a go at this total here.

Yeah, pitch may be flat but the bounce is going to make it hard to chase this down.

Ball kept really low and Bracewell had no idea what to do.

I refer you all to the Fourth Test between England and Pakistan at Edgbaston in 1987.

Pakistan set England something like 123 runs in 18 overs.

Imran Khan and Wasim Akram then bowled every ball outside leg-stump. With no leg-side wide law in Tests, and no fielding restrictions, it was an impossible target for England to make.

Bracewell was the wrong player to send out

It should have been Mitchel

Pakistan has no chance of getting 10 wickets, NZ can try to score at a fast rate and in that case pakistan will anyway slow the game by bowling fast bowlers and not complete 15 overs. If it was 20 years back and Wasim being the captain, we all would have known the reason for declaration but difficult to understand it now.

Pakistan plays T20 well so Babar declared it once the scoreboard became competitive enough for 15 over match. :babar

weird. Shouldve rathar batted.

I take an early lunch and Babar declares?????

What is he doing?

Good ploy by babar to avoid all out humiliation in third innings and now he can try out agha too

I remember it well. It was a great match. Seemed to be drifting toward a draw, then Foster took quick wickets and effected a run-out too, and the last day went nuts.

Nowadays the umpires will call you out for bowling a negative line pretty quickly.

Come on NZ put the final nail in babas captaincy & pathetic safraz’s career !!

Nah, either Babar is fixing this or he's trying to earn some brownie points by being an aggressive/assertive captain but not realizing this isn't a situation where you can do it.
