The 2016 U.S. Elections Thread

The way polls are swinging back and forth in this election cycle, just goes to show how weak the support is for both candidates among most people, other than having a loyal base, any bad news cycle make them either abstain or go to the other side. Funny how only a week back there were talks to Hillary winning by a landslide and now its anyone's game with Hillary still with a higher chance but momentum shifting to Trump.

If Hillary does win which is more likely, she should thank Donald for alienating Mexicans as they will be the one tilting the race in her favor. Just in Florida, voting rate among Mexicans have gone up more than 100% when compared to four years ago. Mexicans will take over as majority in US in a few decades anyways. Even if Trump wins, the roots of hatred that Trump has sown among Mexicans in America will last for ages making it unlikely for the Republican party to win the President's race for a long long time.
 
Seems like both candidates have 42% of loyalty sewn up each, and the remaining 16% of voters are therefore up for grabs.

I think a Trump presidency will be a lot better than a Hillary one, because:

- He can diffuse tensions between Russia and the West
- Hillary will continue waging more and more wars on the behalf of CIA
- He is more serious in wiping out ISIS and terrorism while Hilary like Obama just wants to add more fuel to the fire
- Hilary is just an extension of Obama
 
Presidency should not be that hard, I still think Hillary will win with 300+, last minute Comey has done some damage, means 330+ is little tough now.

Senate is still on the radar for us, we could have done serious damage in house. This late hoop hala about emails was to damage control house and senate and get monkey off the back of Trump, who is was hammered and exposed more badly during debate season.
 
Khizr Khan (Gold Star father) attended and spoke at a rally in NH with Hillary. This guy is like the trump card (pardon the pun) for Hillary. His speech at the Dem convention was the most memorable and gave teflon Trump his first dip in polls. Not a surprise as NH in recent polls has become a toss up from being democratic leaning. Khan is almost universally loved and respected. Great speech as before. I wish he runs for office. Very well spoken. Makes me proud to be an American.

Its hilarious as while he was ranting about Black people were lucky their ancestors were slaves, there was a Black guy that seemed to be working closely behind him :))
 
So Comey's announcement today is definitely good news for Hillary but maybe too little to late. I think people who were not going to vote for Hillary will still find some reason not to and people who were going to, will do regardless. Still, looks like the slide in polls for Hillary has stabilized and she is sitting on an average 2.5 lead in polls overall. Still anyone's game with Hillary being a 2-1 favorite but in a year which has been highly unpredictable with a lot of undecided. Even people like Nate Silver are having a hard time making a firm prediction. As I wrote three days ago, the Hispanic vote may be the decisive factor in NV and FL and even if Trump ends up flipping NH or even Michigan, it might not be enough.
 
I think there are lots of shy Trump voters. It will be close. Hillary will edge it I reckon.

The "Shy Trumper" theory has been floating around for a while. A study was published by Morning Consult in association with Politico recently to test this claim. The results showed that while shy Trump voters do exist, they are not significant enough to affect the outcome. I would still be cautious as its not just the shy voter factor but other factors such as the unusual nature of Trump's candidacy and the high profile polling misses around the world last few years. The factors in Hillary's favor is a better ground game, more money and the unusually large number of Hispanic voters this cycle.

Personally I feel that shy trump would be cancelled by shy Hillary voters (republicans that cant or wont admit publicly that they will vote for Hillary after bashing her for decades)

Could be. Though, talking to republicans I know, the standard response has been "I can still tolerate him but her (eye roll)"

Per some polls black voters are not turning out for Hillary, esp. in NC. Bad sign....NC may swing to Trump which is not the end of the world for Hillary but does make him much more competitive.

One stat that I came across, the percentage of search term "How do I vote" have gone up over 200% compared to 2012. That is huge. Considering America is still 2/3rd white, is this an indicator for a Brexit like situation tomorrow....

Here' is 538 polls analysis. Can you show me, one single point of time, on polls only, where Trump lead Clinton? What swinging back and forth when Clinton was leading throughout?

Yes let a racist, sexist bigot win so that gays, women and blacks can be harassed for a long time, immigrants can be harassed, Muslims can be harassed, there can be violence. All because of some rumors about some e-mails. You think Indians are safe somehow because you do not understand Trump. Every single person who ever worked with him has come out and said how much of a racist he is

This election has told me one thing. All scientists, free thinkers, major writers, intellectuals, Political experts, all living Presidents support Clinton and have warned about Trump. This is one of the biggest tests of how many kids in schools and college follow rumors over truth and think themselves intelligent. Kids will follow even Hitler because its cool and their peers say so. This election is the biggest proof how dumb young people can be

But of course every intellectual and people who have achieved something are wrong and you are right because you believe every dumb rumors.

I agree. But people keep on talking about MSM as if its a bad thing. Throughout the primaries and the general young kids spoke about how MSM (Main stream media) lied. The sources they followed were - Brietbart, Freebeacon. RT, HA Goodman etc. They believed things like Sanders will win nomination, Clinton will be indicted, etc and said MSM was lying when they said the opposite. Guess what? MSM was right every single time. The sources they followed were wrong every single time

Even now, all the major aggregrators and analysts have always predicted a Clinton win. Yet when it happens, these same guys would act surprised as they thought Trump had a chance

I admit even the liberal news is biased. But stupid conspiracy theories come from only the right side. It is extremely sad that young guys in this thread are repeating the same GOP lies and rumors as facts

One of the best SOS. Someone who is respected by all world leaders. Blacks, gays and women swear she has made a lot of difference in their lives. Over 30 years of experience in politics. America could not have had a better President at this point

I never said Trump and Clinton are exchanging lead in the polls but that polls swing back and forth with one on the way down and other on the rise.

Who do you prefer? Given the hobson like choice, I would prefer Trump if he stops the anti immigrant and xenophobic rhetoric. But no way, no how, no hillary.

All the new age liberals are big time conspiracy theorist as well,surely the right wingers don't keep talking about Area 44,Trade Centre being a bluff,War on terror is just funded by Banks and Defense companies.
 
There is a good chance a lot of families affected by outsourcing but traditionally democrat supporters might end up voting for Trump in blue states.

Interesting day ahead,read somewhere final results might be as late as 1 am EST next day.

Hillary any day over Trump. He is a "dangerous clown" a term given to him by Trevor Noah which encapsulates his candidacy like no other.

I want Trump to lose for immigrant kids growing up in America. I don't want them to be raised in a country where racism and xenophobia is commonplace and acceptable. Being the father of a daughter, I would like her to know that woman can reach the highest office in the world and there is no glass ceiling for her. Plus, from a purely selfish standpoint, the stock market will tank if Trump wins and I do not want to devalue my 401K because of this idiotic man.
 
Hillary is a terrible terrible woman and an awful candidate. The political class has to take a good look at itself as to why they have failed so badly.

Tch tch tch.....have you bothered reading about this story other than from the right wing media.

She was a court appointed lawyer, per US law even mass murderers have a right to a court appointed lawyer. She tried not get that case but had no choice. She found holes in the prosecution story and the evidence was incomplete. As a good lawyer she did what job she was legally obliged to do, give your client the best defense possible.

In that interview, she chuckled talking about the inanities of the legal system, how stupid and mundane things are in court proceedings and not at the child victim. The prosecutor for that case was interviewed recently after this case was dug up by the right wing media and he said Clinton did absolutely everything right and he respected and admired her for it. I believe he even said that he will vote for her.

CNN has done a whole story on this topic and should be available on their site if you are interested in getting the facts rather than just passing judgment based on your preconceived notions.

Many academics who've studied this have debunked the GOP myth that voter fraud is widespread. Fact is they don't want the blacks to vote.
 
I think Donald has this one in the bag due to the brexit factor. The Americans want there own brexit where they can tell the establishment elite to F off just like the british public did and that is what Donald represents for them

He Made some stupid comments about Latinos and hispanics and now they are coming out in full force to vote him out by voting for hillary, florida will be decicive but i think donald has won this just about due to the brexit factor and being the first anti establishment presidential candidate in over 100 years.

There's a chance it even could be a 50-50 split.

Pat Toomey and Ron Johnson look like they're gonna be unseated. I think Kelly Ayotte might JUST stave off Maggie Hassan in New Hampshire. Richard Burr and Roy Blunt have close contests in North Carolina and Missouri.
