How do Indians and Sri Lankans consider 2002 ICC Champions Trophy status.

It was one the most bizzare things ever to happen in cricket and perhaps the most neglected one.

I am sure Indians and Sri lankans also feel robbed of the honor. Because claiming a shared trophy can never give satisfaction.

ICC should have awarded the trophy fully to only 1 country based on any criteria A) Finished higher in Group stage. B) Better Ranking in ODIs. c) A Final in completely neutral venue.

The question here is Do Sri lankans legally claim that they have won ICC Champions Trophy or do Indians realistically claim they have won 2 ICC Champions Trophies.

Well in that scenario atleast the match was fully completed, if you take recent 2 One dayers between Pakistan and New zealand, both matches were not completed properly.
And to be fair England choked big time in 2013 final, arguably the biggest choke in limited overs cricket, needing 20 from 16 balls with 5-6 wickets in hand.

LOL..what sri lankans feel robbed..That cup should have been won by India only..The kind of form Sehwag was in there was no chance of Lankans winning..Chaminda Vaas tried to show that he was being hit for boundaries because of ball wetness and hands being slippery..it was clear that Sehwag was thrashing him..

In the Finals, Anything can happen beyond imaginations. See the how India was beaten in Asia Cup Final in Karachi in 2008. Despite winning the group match against Srilanka and despite being the HOT FAVOURITE for the title. Same happened in Asia Cup 2004. Same happened in Asia Cup 2012 & 2014 when India being again the Hot favorites didn't even qualified for the Finals.

Many other examples. Like when the Great WI team chocked in 1983 world cup final.

That was a fair decision. Sri Lanka and India had won all their matches in the tournament. The first final was rained out with India 14/0 chasing 245. The second was rained out with India 38/1 chasing 223.

But India could have voluntarily given it to Sri Lanka as a goodwill gesture.

Frankly it doesn't really bother that trophy was shared. Back then it did a little bit but CT frankly doesn't carry that significance once it's over. Unlike World Cup, where even the ones held decades ago are remembered and you'd wanna have 'what if' conversations over.

From memory we still used to belt them. Kohli debuted relatively recently, we used to beat Lanka often before - though not with such comprehensiveness.

No this is not true. Only 2005 onwards did we start hammering them left, right and centre and that was when Dhoni scored 183 odd against them. Even then, they beat us in the World Cup game in 07. Until 05, Lanka used to shock us more often than not with jayasuriya hammering our trundlers.

By seeing the quality of cricket being played these days and the difference between both teams now, option C is formally handing the trophy to India. I'd rather ask those 40+ players to defend their chance against Indian 40+ rather than the current teams.

Yes it was a blunder, so was IPL. Lets move ahead now.

Lol... they used to belt India for a longer term since 96 CWC... back then they had a line up of jayasuriya atapattu, aravinda, ranatunga.. after ranatunga goes. sanga and jayawardene filled the vacancy followed by dilshan and mathews after that... it was no chance back then until dhoni, yuvraj, kaif and irfan made their presence felt...

I'm not poking fun at anyone. It's just something that the administrators need to look at. Have reserve days for all finals, don't play during rainy seasons and please look into covered stadiums.
