The Jasprit Bumrah workload myth: Is opting out of the 2nd Test against England justified?

So when stats fail..they are arguing just because he is rested he ain't a good bowler..lmao such a logic..just say he didn't get that many wickets or was injury prone.. how is that related to his impact and this is the first time he is rested.

I will respond with what I wrote in the other thread as it's more suited here

Managing fast bowlers is how you ensure you have an good bench of bowlers and that your bowlers have a long career.

Australia and South Africa has been doing this for long. India have not which is why we lose a lot of promising bowlers to injury

This is not the 90s with less cricket played where bowlers can keep bowling unless you are smooth action like Anderson.

Its weird most of the criticism is coming from a country where not a single fast bowler has managed to take 200 wickets for many decades.

The fact that India has managed bumrah with all his injuries to be near 250 test wickets and still counting means they are doing something right.

We don't want bumrah to end up like Afridi or Naseem or any of the Pak fast bowlers who come with a bang and then in a year or 2 start trundling ineffectively because they were mis managed and don't have great careers.

Instead of learning how to manage fast bowlers from India, Pak fans are taking the wrong lessons and attacking

Maybe the country which has a 19 averaging bowler nearing 250 wickets despite an injury prone action, and which has won many overseas matches recently through bowling is doing it right and you, which does not have a single test fast bowlers take 200 wickets for many decades is doing it wrong?

Maybe?

Not sure why should anyone else have stomach ache when Indians themselves are fine with Bumrah missing a few games.

However, one thing I don't agree with is Bumrah playing all IPL games (except when he is injured). Don't think he is short of cash so he must try to prolong his international career.

Bumrah just leave test cricket... His fitness issues make him less worthy to play this format... He is a good bowler but injury is not gonna help him here.
Yes a bowler nearing 250 test wickets with a 19 average is less worthy of tests. He should be averaging 35+ like the great Naseem.

Come on

You know exactly why they are having stomach ache. Their entire world view was destroyed when bumrah SENA numbers against wasim, waqar and imran were shown here

From that time they have been crying non stop about bumrah everywhere

The variety of these Bumrah threads have been hilarious, it went from India cannot win without bumrah to bumrah makes others bowl bad to india doesn't win with bumrah to crying about bumrah being rested.

And mind you, this is all coming from a country which hasn't had a single fast bowler with 200 test wickets in many many decades

So we know exactly why the stomach ache, it's jealousy.

Bumrah is already an all time great of the game even if he retires now. He has operated in a simply different league to other fast bowlers of this era across all formats and that too when you have a quality of Cummins or Rabada available. :inti

His injury prone body does not make his worthy to play test cricket... He might get injured big time and his career could be over...

This is a good criticism

When Indians label a bowler the greatest of all time then other teams fans will chip in with their inputs.

Casting aspersions on someone's integrity isn't passing inputs.

Just because you don't like a particular cricketer doesn't mean you indulge in meaningless and clueless criticism.

Be critical of him all you want, but be constructive. Do not accuse him of something which he may not even have any idea about

Not just Indians. Just watched the Overlap cricket podcast episode uploaded a few hours back. Even Bumble and Tuffnel called him the best fast bowler they’ve ever seen.

Here’s another one 9 months ago.

You get Bumble’s answer in the first 25 seconds.

I don’t have an answer right now. Haven’t thought about this hard enough. But a lot of non Indians rate him as the best.

^ Kimber says it’s easier to find a McGrath. Same video.

Based on a super quick search.

Here’s Finn: called him the most complete fast bowler ever to play the game

NYT: Called him an ATG

Clarke: best ever all format fast bowler

Similar opinions / high praise:

Travis Head: One of the greatest ever

Wisden called Bumrah’s 2024 as the best year ever for a bowler. Ever. And not just for a fast bowler. For any bowler.

Ponting: Best series for a fast bowler he’s seen in his life

“I remember AB de Villiers (former South Africa batter) telling me Bumrah was the one bowler he’s faced where he didn’t know where the ball was going. AB was always ahead of all bowlers, but Bumrah was the one guy that he didn’t know what was coming. He could bowl anything.” Moeen Ali (NYT article)

Bumrah's only issue is injury injury-prone body... It will never allow him to play all games without any risk of injury.

They are entitled to his opinion and it reinforce my point further. He is a hot topic for all cricket fans not just Indians.

Brother you have basically said similar things but in polite terms regarding your wish that he plays less IPL and more test. Some people may have used more harsh terminology
