The Ranji Trophy Thread

I don't agree about mentally strong.Though you make some good points about poorer Mumbai teams winning title. Its all relative in the end. Also having great system is not the same as having great facilities.

I believe, thats part of it. If you have a great system, that by itself will lead to great facilities. Also, the winning mentality is part of the Mumbai system. Every year, a Mumbai Ranji team is expected to win a Ranji campaign. A seasoned Mumbai player has 8-10 Ranji titles under his belt.

For players from other teams (especially those not from Karnataka, TN and Delhi) winning, or even making it to the final is a big deal.

Another thing to note, is due to the cricket culture in Mumbai, even though they might not produce International class players for India, but they will always produce players just one level below. The interesting question is whether such players - the great domestic players - come from good talent, or are a result of a great system.

I would say that the system surely helps. Because if you look at other states with a good system (not as great as Mumbai, but still decent ones) - Delhi, Hyderabad, TN, Karnataka - they've usually been the other top performers.

Finally, we need to give it to Mumbai, though. They have produced two of the greatest talents in world cricket. So, there is talent in Mumbai, just as there is in other states. But Mumbai has been excellent in harnessing and finishing those talents in such a manner, that even if the talents are not International class, they will always make champion cricketers.

Cricket culture in Mumbai ensures talent is identified at the earliest and system just helps in nurturing them.No culture no one would have belief of making the big stage.
Cricket culture is not so proper at other places. That is where beginning should be rather than enving riches.

Congrats to Gujjus!!!! So happy they won, guess their first official title.

Kuldeep awarded for some good spin bowling and his batting potential.

I have said it in his thread before, he has the highest ceiling both in bowling and batting amongst spinning all-rounders in India.

Ranji Trophy 2019-20: The opening day of the new season of India's premier first-class tournament saw big names like Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane and Hanuma Vihari among the runs. Cheteshwar Pujara and Mayank Agarwal suffered rare failures.

HIGHLIGHTS
Mumbai posted 362 for 8 against Baroda in Vadodara
Robin Uthappa hit a hundred for Kerala vs Delhi
Ajinkya Rahane and Prithvi Shaw shone for Mumbai
Team India stars had mixed outings on the opening day of the new Ranji Trophy season which got underway across the country on Monday, December 9.

Former champions Mumbai made a strong start to their campaign in the Elite Group A and B against Baroda at the Reliance Stadium, Vadodara.

Prithvi Shaw, playing his 1st Ranji Trophy match since serving his doping ban, smashed 66 from 62 balls as Mumbai got off to a flyer. Shaw dominated the Baroda bowling attack with fluent strokes, hitting 11 boundaries and a six before he was undone by an inswinger from Abhimanyu Rajput.

India vice-captain and senior batsman Ajinkya Rahane top-scored on Day 1 for Mumbai with a 145-ball 79 before getting out to Yusuf Pathan.

Lower-order contributions from Shardul Thakur (63-ball 64) and Shams Mulani (94-ball 56 not out) took Mumbai to 362 for 8 at Stumps.

Robin Uthappa hits hundred vs Delhi

Kerala, meanwhile, got off their Ranji Trophy campaign in Elite Group A and B on a high as they reached 276 for 3 at Stumps on Day 1. Robin Uthappa hit a hundred (102 off 221 balls) to lead Kerala's charge against Delhi at St Xavier's College Ground in Thiruvananthapuram.

Opener Poonam Rahul remained unbeaten on 97 along with captain Sachin Baby (36) as Kerala made light work of Delhi's bowling attack that had the likes of Navdeep Saini and Pradeep Sangwan.

Tamil Nadu contain Karnataka in Dindigul

In the battle of heavyweights at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu restricted Karnataka to 259 for 6.

Days after their meeting in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final, Karnataka won the toss and opted to bat.

India opener Mayank Agarwal hit 43 but his opening partner Dega Nischal fell as early as the 4th over to K Vignesh. Rising batsman Devdutt Padikkal was once again the top-scorer for Karnataka as he made 78 from 182 balls.

Captain Karun Nair failed for 8 as he was run out by his Tamil Nadu counterpart Vijay Shankar.

Middle-order batsman Pvan Deshpande was looking set for a big score as he made a solid 65 only to be dismissed by India off-spinner R Ashwin.

Shreyas Gopal (35) and David Mathias (0) were unbeaten as Karnataka reached 259 for 6 in 94 overs in Dindigul.

Cheteshwar Pujara fails in Dharamsala

Heavyweights and runners-up from 2018-19 season, Saurashtra had a horrid opening day as they struggled against Himachal Pradesh in their Elite Group A and B Round 1 match in Dharamsala.

Star batsman Cheteshwar Pujara was out for 2 as Saurashtra were reeling at 93 for 7 in 28 overs. Notably, they had shot out Himachal Pradesh for 120 after captain Jaydev Unadkat led the bowling show with 3 wickets. Chirag Jani and Prerak Mankad chipped in with 3 wickets each as well.

Vidharbha make fine start to title defence

Defending champions Vidarbha made a strong start to their campaign in the Elite Group A and B opener by shooting out Andhra for 211 in Vijayawada. Aditya Sarwate shone with 4 wickets and Rajneesh Gurbani picked up 3 as Vidharbha came up with a top-class bowling performance.

Captain Hanuma Vihari was the only bright spot for Andhra as he scored 83 from 155. Vidharbha were 26 for 0 at Stumps as Faiz Fazal, their captain, and Sanjay Raghunath, were unbeaten on 11 and 14 respectively.

Other results

In Hyderabad, the hosts were bowled out for 233 by Gujarat despite a solid effort (69) from wicketkeeper batsman Kolla Sumanth. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel failed to pick up wickets but a collective effort saw Gujarat restrict Hyderabad to a below-par score.

Meanwhile, Haryana made a strong start to their campaign in Elite Group C by posting 279 for 3 on Day 1 vs Maharashtra in Rohtak. Opener Shubham Rohilla was unbeaten on 117 after middle-order batsman Shivam Chauhan shone with a 208-ball 117.

India pacer Siddharth Kaul shone for Punjab in their opening match in Elite Group A and B as he picked up 3 wickets to restrict Rajasthan for 256/9 at Stumps in Jaipur. Mahipal Lomror and Ashok Menaria top-scored for Rajasthan with 60 each.

18 matches are simultaneously started from Dec 9. Its not an easy task for BCCI to work on logistics.

To make it more successful, BCCI should invest on good coaches, physios, great Umpiring, preparation of good turf pitches, full DRS technology.

At Ranji level, coaches are very good lol, DRS is expensive and pitches are better than they were when Jadeja scored like 3 triple centuries lol.

Karnataka vs Tamil Nadu match was interesting till lunch.
Karnataka team lost all his players to Indian team and many are playing for other states.

It's Krishnappa Gowtham vs Tamil Nadu.

For TN, they need 81 and have 3 wickets.

Karnataka has become a nightmare for us, Swashbuckler , they are really having an excellent Indian domestic legacy second to Mumbai now.

But due to some reason South Indian cricketers getting chances very late.
Look at Prudhvi shaw, Gill, Pant, Rohit, Yuvi, Kaif,Sachin,Kambli etc etc entered early stages
Mayank,Rayudu,Vihari, Murali Vijay,Dinesh Karthik, Sanju Samson,Maneesh Pandey, KL Rahul got chances after so many matches.

Don't know when Devudutt Padikkal will get a chance, he is highest scorer of this season in all formats.

Come on man if you are talented you get a go.. shaw is definitely more talented then Mayank.. nothing to do with bring from south.. didn’t Dravid Ashwin Srinath got chance to hen they were young.. that bloody Karthik debuted when he was 21 and he is a useless player.. K L Rahul debuted at 22 and its his own issues keeping him away from reaching his potential..nothing to do with being from south India..

South Indians don't get discriminated in Cricket. Cricket, thankfully has less discrimination when it comes to national team selection. Caste and religious discrimination do take places in state cricket often.

Abhinav Mukund got his chance when he was like 19

If MP had scored 2 runs more or Goa scored 2 runs less, MP would have qualified, instead of Karnataka

Western states of that time were first to adopt cricket from British colonists. That's why Maharashtra(Mumbai, Maharashtra proper, Vidarbha), Gujrat(Gujarat proper, Saurashtra) and MP( MP proper, Baroda) have multiple teams.

Ranji Trophy: Tanush Kotian overcomes IPL snub to emerge as Mumbai’s Man Friday

Bowling all-rounder was reported for his bowling action on the eve of the auction a little more than a year ago; on Saturday, he scored second successive half-century as Mumbai take control of proceedings vs Andhra.

Mumbai’s lower order once again came to the team’s rescue as their ability to bat in crunch situations enabled the hosts to post a respectable total of 395 in their Ranji Trophy match against Andhra on Saturday.

Tanush Kotian, batting at number 8, and number 9 Mohit Avasthi scored 54 and 53 runs respectively as Mumbai added 114 runs to their overnight tally at the MCA-BKC ground.

otian, who ground it out in the middle on a warm afternoon, is fast earning the reputation of being Mumbai’s Man Friday. This was his second successive half-century, signalling a remarkable turn of fortunes for a player who, a little more than a year ago, was reported by the match referee for his bowling.

It was on the eve of the IPL auction in December 2022 that Kotian, hoping to attract a bid, had to endure a heartbreak. “I got to know on the day of the auction that my action had been questioned. In fact, I had done reasonably well and was quite optimistic about getting a bid in the auction,” he said. “I did feel for a while that the incident has pulled me back a step or two. It happens. Sometimes you go through a rough patch but if you keep working hard and keep performing, you will be rewarded at some point.”

Despite the match referee’s adverse views over his action, Kotian never thought there was any fault in his bowling. “It was a minor incident that became such a huge issue. I have interacted with many coaches and seniors and all of them have told me there’s absolutely nothing wrong with my action,” he added.

It was during the 2022-23 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game against Uttarakhand at Rajkot that the match referee summoned him. He never got to see the clip where his action seemed faulty and was never asked to stop bowling. Later, he was asked to go to Chennai to get his action checked but a technical error meant the test did not take place.

Fast forward to 2024 and the talented all-rounder is again ready to put in the hard yards in domestic cricket.

His innings, ably supported by Avathi, ensured the 41-time champions ended Day 2 in a comfortable position. Andhra were 98 for 3 at stumps, with left-arm spinner Shams Mulani taking two wickets and left-arm seamer Royston Dias scalping one.

Andhra managed to get a decent start as opener C Gnaneshwar and Prasanth Kumar added 57 runs for the opening stand. Dias managed to get the breakthrough after Gnaneshwar was brilliantly caught in slips by Mulani.

Mulani then took the wickets of Shaikh Rasheed and Hanuma Vihari in quick succession to leave the visitors reeling.

Brief Scores: Mumbai 395 all out (Jay Bista 39, Bhupen Lalwani 61, Suved Parkar 41, Shreyas Iyer 48, Shams Mulani 38, Tanush Kotian 54, Mohit Avasthi 53, Nithish Reddy 5 for 64) vs Andhra 98 for 3 (P Kumar 59 not out, Shams Mulani 2 for 35).

Batting has gone South in the last few years.

After Kohli and Rohit, we are looking at Rahul as the next best all format batsman and that's a pretty huge dip in quality because Rahul isn't great in any format.

Gill and Jaiswal clearly need more time to establish themselves in all formats. Iyer seems to be lacking the quality of all round test batsman.

"There Was Pressure...": Report Alleges Favouritism In Delhi's Ranji Trophy Squad

Delhi's Ranji Trophy campaign hit a new low on Friday after team's best batter Ayush Badoni, who is going through a rough patch, was asked to stay back in team hotel at the behest of powerful officials, who wanted to teach the "IPL star" a lesson. Keeping Badoni out of 15 didn't make much of a difference to Delhi's inept batting as Uttarakhand's medium pace bowlers shot them out for 147 in a Ranji Trophy group D match in Mohali. In five completed innings so far this season, Delhi batters have failed to cross 200 on three occasions and highest individual score is Vaibhaav Kandpal's 49 in last game. On the day, it was Yash Dhull's 47 and at stumps, Uttarakhand were 98 for four with Navdeep Saini getting three wickets.

However more than mere statistic, Badoni, who scored 41 in the last game and is perhaps the only player in current Delhi stable who is rated highly on national circuit, had to be put on chopping block to accommodate Kshitiz Sharma, who is believed to be close to a former BCCI office bearer.

"Yes, there was pressure to play Kshitiz and specifically to keep Badoni out of 15, so that he doesn't even get BCCI's allotted match fees. Only 15 players are entitled to BCCI match fees. Since he can't be allowed in PMOA (Players and Match Officials Area), it was thought that it would be better off to keep him in hotel," a senior DDCA official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

But why wasn't he even brought to the ground when could have watched the proceedings from adjoining VIP gallery? "The team managers would have had to arrange for his meals separately as BCCI wouldn't have paid for it and also during breaks or match, he couldn't have attended the nets as Punjab CA have their camp on. So it was better to keep him in hotel," the official, who is close to a DDCA director said.

There is a school of thought Badoni has lost focus after two seasons of IPL and keeping him in hotel was a way of teaching him a lesson.

"If Ayush would have scored a 100, those who desperately want to see him out of Delhi cricket wouldn't have got a chance to raise their voice and push for cricketers like Kshitiz, who don't deserve to be in the dressing room.

"Even he should take blame for not scoring runs," the senior official, who sounded helpless said.

Kshitiz, who many in Delhi consider a decent club level cricketer, shouldered arms to an innocuous Abhay Negi delivery pitched on length and just cut back enough to peg back the off-stump.

However it is understood that DDCA president Rohan Jaitley would crack the whip in case things go all awry after the current game.

"Rohan's heart is in right place but it is about time he takes some tough calls. If Kshitiz doesn't score runs in the second innings, the president's intervention would be required," the official added.

More disappointing was skipper Himmat Singh's manner of dismissal as Deepak Dhapola, who bowls in mid 120 clicks, bowled him through the gate.

Dhull, who was considered an India prospect long back, has been exposed badly with serious technical problems in his stance and set-up (shoulder and head falling across off-stump).

The manner of getting out has been identical as he gets squared up to deliveries on the channel like Devendra Bora did on the day.

nepotism, favoritism, and many other isms are ENDEMIC in 1st class cricket in India and perhaps orders of magnitude higher in lower levels of cricket.

IPL is a welcome development therefore because talent scouts for these teams don't blandly rely on stats but attend matches to see for themselves. It's like a parallel system that has come up and does its bit in keeping the official system honest.

'Javed Miandad, Super Mario': Rahul Tewatia's 'vintage' look in Ranji Trophy match leads to hilarious reactions

Screenshot_20240212_181355_Gallery.jpg

Haryana all-rounder Rahul Tewatia, who also plays for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL), scored his maiden century in his Ranji Trophy career on Sunday as he smashed 144 runs, and later picked two wickets as well in the Elite Group A match in Jamshedpur against Jharkhand. Yet what stole the show, and later went viral all over social media, was the vintage look he sported during the match, which instantly reminded fans of former players like Javed Miandad and Manoj Prabhakar.

Haryana Cricket Association on Sunday shared a photo of Tewatia with his batting stats, which eventually played a vital role in the team scripting an emphatic win by an innings and 205 runs. It also helped Haryana go to the second spot in the Elite Group A points table, having secured three wins and two draws in six matches to amass 24 points, four less than table-toppers Vidarbha (four wins and a draw in six games).

Tewatia's 144, along with opener Amit Kumar's century, helped Haryana put up a total of 509. Jayant Yadav then starred with a five-wicket haul, while Tewatia picked a wicket as well, as Jharkhand were folded for 119. Put to bat again, Jharkhand managed only 185 runs as Haryana secured a scintillating win with Jayant picking up a another fi-fer.

Shreyas Iyer Cites Injury To Miss Ranji Trophy Game. NCA Provides Contradicting Update: Report

Indian cricket team batter Shreyas Iyer made himself unavailable for Mumbai's Ranji Trophy quarterfinals citing injury concerns but the National Cricket Academy (NCA) has said that he has no 'fresh injuries', according to a report by Indian Express. The report cited an email from Nitin Patel, the head of sports science and medicine at the NCA, who told selectors that Iyer was 'fit'. It also quoted Mumbai Cricket Association sources saying that Iyer had cited back pain as the reason behind missing the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal match against Baroda which will begin on Friday.

"Shreyas Iyer was fit and available for selection as per the handover report of the Indian team after the 2nd Test match against England. There are currently no fresh injuries reported as well after his departure from Team India,” Patel wrote in his email according to the report.

Earlier, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah made it clear that all centrally contracted cricketers will have to mandatorily play red-ball cricket in the domestic circuit and the management will not tolerate any kind of excuses in the matter.

While interacting with the reporters at the sidelines of the renaming ceremony of the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Shah pointed out that all players will have to represent their state teams if called upon by coach or captain.

The statement came amidst the controversy surrounding Ishan Kishan and reports that suggest that BCCI has asked him to play for Jharkhand in Ranji Trophy.

Shah mentioned Kishan during the interaction but quickly added that the announcement was not targeted towards him and this rule will apply for all cricketers who are not part of the national team.

“All contracted players have been told on phone and I'll be writing to them too. If chairman of selectors, coach & captain want you to play red-ball cricket then you gotta play. ‘Nakhre Nahi Chalenge' (no tantrums). And as far as Ishan Kishan is concerned, he is young, I am not saying this specifically about him as it will be applicable for all the players uniformly,” Jay Shah told reporters.

"Everyone will have to play, otherwise, the chairman of the selection committee has given me his suggestions and I am going to give him a free hand to let him take his own calls freely," he added.

Despite all the hand-wringing, I would say the Ranji Trophy is still in pretty good shape. Yes a few stars have skipped it but the sheer volume of talent in India is such that the next young kid is gunning for their place. I grew up in Mumbai, am a diehard fan, been to a few games (well less than I should for a fan). While the heydays of Mumbai are gone when it won the trophy by default, Mumbai is still an awesome team when it wants to me.

A full strength Mumbai team would be
Yashasvi Jaiswal
Rohit Sharma
Shreyas Iyer
Ajinkya Rahane
Suryakumar Yadav
Aditya Tare
Shivam Dubey
Shams Mulani
Shardul Thakur
Dhawal Kulkarni
Tanush Kotian

I guess I could drop Iyer or Suryakumar to make room for Sarfaraz but there's no way I could accommodate Prithvi Shaw.

All of them (except maybe Tanush?) have played for India or India A

What a team! We're overdue for the trophy and are in red hot form going into the quarters. Hope we do it again.

I just can't help looking at this team again and marveling at how strong it is. That batting line-up (down to 9!) is stronger than 70% of all international teams and while the bowling is weaker, there's enough guile in there with Thakur & Kulkarni combined with Mulani who's knocking hard on Indian team doors blocked only by the fact that he's left arm orthodox and he's up against the most irreplaceable player in the Indian team in Jadeja.

My college days were watching the great Mumbai teams of the late 90s and early 00s with such legendary players as Jaffer, Muzumdar, Kambli, Amre, Agarkar. We could be beginning another golden era if we maintain that solid mix of youngsters & legends.

What a team! We're overdue for the trophy and are in red hot form going into the quarters. Hope we do it again.
I would drop Rahane for Sarfaraz

Mumbai are back where they rightfully belong. In the finals of the Ranji Trophy. Out of 88/9 finals of the tournament, they'll have been in there 49 times. Innings win over a strong Tamil Nadu team allows them an extra day before the finals in what's a very tough schedule this year. Keep in mind, they were still missing about half their team - Rohit, Jaiswal, Suryakumar, Dube, Sarfaraz.

The other side is still up in the air. Looked like MP had the clear advantage with a big first innings lead but Vidarbha have made a strong comeback to give themselves a chance.

By the way, I only saw clips but Sarfaraz's younger brother Musheer Khan looks like a real talent. Another one from the Mumbai cricket batting factory.

Well it's a replay of the 2021-22 final. Mumbai vs. Madhya Pradesh. Hopefully with a different result! Both very deserving teams with excellent records this season.

On another note, Chandrakant Pandit needs to get a chance to coach India. The man has a Midas touch and wins everywhere he goes. Twice with Mumbai, twice with Vidarbha, once with MP and now he's brought MP back into the finals. All in the last 15 years.

He has a reputation as a hard Taskmaster and isn't a glamour name like the last few coaches but so much success isn't a coincidence. Somehow, he manages to instil a killer, never say die mentality in his teams.

Vidarbha won semifinal by 60 something runs brother. Not MP.

Pandit is old school to the extreme.

International team will not accept his tyrannical ways.

Yes sorry. I jumped the gun because I was a bit overexcited and wanted to make the point about Pandit. You're probably right about Pandit but that kind of track record deserves some chance. Maybe an Assistant coach under a feelgood coach like Shastri? It's worked in football.

Well it looks like Mumbai have more or less sewn the trophy up. As we speak, they've added 235 runs to their already massive first innings lead of 119 to now basically be at 354 for 3. Rahane and Iyer have stepped up when it counted but the 2 players who really deserve consideration at the national level.

Musheer Khan - brother of Sarfaraz Khan who's just come off a stellar U19 World Cup to now just be utterly consistent in the middle order. 300+ runs in 5 innings all in crucial situations. India A selection beckons.

Shams Mulani - Mumbai's Mr.Dependable. 40 wickets @19 and 303 runs @26 (career average is 32). Always stands up in crisis situations. Should be Jadeja's backup and can be tried in one of the upcoming series against Bangladesh or New Zealand.

If we're serious about rewarding Ranji performances, these are the guys. Neither are type to make much money in the IPL. They are old-fashioned Mumbai khadoos cricketers.

Saurabh Kumar should get an opportunity before Shams Mulani. I am aware that Mulani is a better bat. But Saurabh has been performing for longer period. He has been picked in the squad a few times but never got a place in the XI. How likes of Shahbaz Nadeem and Jayant Yadav have played for India before him is difficult to understand.

Getting selected for India isn't a matter of seniority. I just checked and Saurabh's bowling average is higher than Mulani's and his batting average is lower. Plus Mulani's record these last couple of seasons has been sensational - stood up when it counts and dragged Mumbai out of some critical situations. Plus he's 4 years younger.

i have followed Shams Mulani career for some time now. He is a very good replacement for Jadeja in tests. He is 10 years younger, and a proper FC allrounder. I have seen him bat and his pretty ortodox and correct.. He will do well and deserves a chnace in Indian setup.. They can play him against BD under Ashwin so that Jadeja and Axar get rest after IPL and T20 worldcup

he will struggle unfortunately due to his career overlapping with Axar patel. Otherwise he would have been the backup. He is not as good a bat as Shams/Axar but a bit better bowler.

in an ideal world he will be our coach. But practically he won't succeed. Look at what happened to Kumble. He was a bit more task master than Shastri and he was booted out. India needs good strategist and laidback coaches due to superstars in the team. It is unfortunate but it is what it is. If it was up to me, Pandit will be in the national setup in some capacity. he is clearly doing something right for close to two decades

Musheer and Safaraz both have poor body language in their stance. It's makes them look like cricketing versions of a pendu, when they are clearly not. I remember Chris Read had the same issues when trying to get into the England team in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Pendu stance or not, it's a great story. A cricket obsessed father decides to make both his sons stars for India. Uproots his life, takes them out of school to focus on the game, involves himself in every minute element of their life and hey presto, you have 2 incredible cricketers who're breaking records.

There's obviously a movie deal here. Like Richard about the Williams' sisters dad or 'Dangal 2 - Ballebaaz'.

Musheer is definitely one for the future. Haven't really followed Ranji trophy games but have seen him in the u19 world cup. This guy has serious talent.

The guy doesn't seem to really understand the concept of pressure. After 360 runs in the U19 World Cup, he's fast-tracked into the Mumbai Ranji team.

Comes in for the Quarters his second first class match ever - he scores a double century. Semis, low scoring game - scores a crucial 55 with everyone collapsing around him. Finals - Sachin Tendulkar and Indian captain Rohit Sharma watching in person, he top scores with a century.

Tanush Kotian from Mumbai caught my eye in this Ranji Final.

Looks like he could be a replacement for Ashwin and compete with Sundar. 25 years old, and a solid bowling plus batting record in FC.

Bowling stats are underwhelming though

Must not watch a lot of FC cricket in India to think Kotian's average is underwhelming. Wouldn't say something that clueless otherwise.

Vidarbha's 4th inning chase is a good clue that spinners in India have to work harder in domestics than at test level.

Just checked, Ashwin's FC average (sum of test plus domestics) is still higher than his test bowling average despite having played so many tests abroad.

Look up Kumar Kartikeya.

There are some spinners in domestic with good numbers - Shams, Sai, Saurabh etc. Will Tanush get chances before they do ?

Hard to say.

You can have an avg of 0 but 60 odd wickets in 20 odd test matches are underwhelming

?

Take a look at his SR and Average. Number of wickets per match is a factor of the bowling attack he's a part of.

Hard to say.

Aren't all the above are SLAs? Tanush would only have Sundar as a probable competitor.

Saurabh probably is the best SLA in country including Jadeja but his batting/fielding, age and general fitness would rule him out as a long term prospect.

Sai is a seasoned bowler but his batting is not quite the same level as Tanush - speaking strictly on the basis of their FC records.

Shams probably is the closest that comes to Tanush but again there might be room for both given their different bowling styles.
