Where were you when he was dominating previous Ipl seasons? A couple of bad t20 matches and you come like vultures to attack a 22 year old. Meanwhile teams like England back players like Roy adn Baristow for series after series and ended up winning the workd cup

Imagine claimibg Rayudu is the solution. There is a reason india hasnt won anything post 2007 in t20. Its mentality like your
 
Should be kept as far away as possible from our white ball teams until he goes back to domestic and sorts out that horrible technique.

As bizarre as it sounds, his technique is more suited to Test cricket and he's pretty much the only option we have currently for a wk bat in the longest format.

Who else is capable as a test keeper? Saha? In T20Is I agree his form has been atrocious. But my post was regarding Tests.

What has Pant ever won for India....nothing

Rizwan has had a very good tour to Aus and Eng with the bat and he can keep as well unlike Pant.
So on current form he is better than Pant who's struggling to even retain his place in the team.

I know i will get a lot of hate from my countrymen for this but Rizwan is way better keeper than Pant. He was brilliant in recent test series vs England. All pandits praised him. He also has great attitude to keep learning.
 
Pant is having a poor IPL season this year but will remain in contention for a slot in Indian team.

I am only wondering if India plays Dhawan at top order in Indian T20 side then where will Rahul and Iyer bat as it seems likely after Dhawan's performance now?
 
Young Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant may not make the 32-man squad for the upcoming tour of Australia due to his weight. With the current Indian team and the selection system laying a lot of emphasis on fitness and hence a BCCI insider spoke about this development in a report on TOI.

Currently, the process does not compromise on the yo-yo test and that is where the problem lies for Pant. The source also said that the selectors will now speak to trainer Nick Webb before taking the call.

“The Indian team fitness trainer had shared his perspective on Pant some days ago and we believe he’s overweight. Regardless of what’s obvious on the field, the BCCI and the selectors will have to take the fitness report on Pant into consideration before they can pick him. The selectors need to speak to trainer Nick Webb before taking the call,” a source told TOI.

With KL Rahul in top-form, he could be the one backed to do the wicketkeeping duties in the limited-overs series in Australia. With Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan impressing in the ongoing IPL, they could also be in the reckoning.

Pant has been in poor form amassing 217 runs in eight matches at an average of 31.00 and a surprisingly low strike-rate of 117.29. He is yet to get a fifty-plus score as well. Not just his batting, he has also been bashed on social media for his shoddy keeping skills. All in all, it has thus far been a season to forget for Pant.

If he is dropped for fitness concerns it will be appropriate. There should be no excuses for being unfit. None at all
 
But but he has scored two test centuries in Eng and Aus. Anyway there should be no place for overweight uncles in Indian team of 2020 especially for those who are average players. It will be embarrassing for both Pant and his fans if he is dropped due to being overweight. :inti
 
According to TOI, the Indian team fitness trainer shared his perspective on Rishabh Pant and believed he's overweight. The BCCI and selectors will have to take fitness report on Pant before selecting him. The selectors will also speak to fitness trainer before taking a call.
 
He is badly out of shape. India are doing the right thing by telling him to sort it out or he won't play. It's all on the player now.

Do you want to be Indias keeper for a decade or go down the path of underachieving and being known for that?

Let's see how serious about cricket Rishabh Pant is.
 
With Kohli being our captain in all formats, its really surprising to see Pant playing as many games as he did for us. He is way too overweight. In this day and age, it is simply unacceptable for a sportsman to have a pot belly.

Same for Rohit. However Rohit has at least superlative performances under his belt in LoIs something which Pant doesn't have.

My brother, compare their records in Aus/ Eng then arfue over it. Although Pant has lost form recently, his record is better than Rizwan's.

Pant was extremely fit, i saw him doing numerous back flips in Australia. But he has looked like he enjoyed life a lot during lockdown.
 
I thought the IPL Franchises and BCCI was very strict on the selection of fit vs unfit players and there was a black and white rule that no overweight, unfit player will be selected, am surprised the IPL Franchises selected so many players who were horribly out of shape this season, maybe they didn't have any option given that they were desperate for the IPL to go ahead but am glad to see the BCCI taking action
 
Those fans who are now crying for Rohit are the same fans who used to mock Indian cricketers who were overweight and picked in the team. I guess some people can never be happy with anything. Now, there are fitness standards, if you don't pass, you don't play. Its absolutely fair in my opinion.

In that case why select him for Tests? Let him go back to FC cricket and improve.

He has been massively mishandled by this joke of a team management. in 2019-20, their major concern was securing Dhoni's place for T20 WC, for which they saw Pant as a threat and properly destabilised him after his success in England and Australia tests. He was publicly criticised by the coach, captain and the selectors. How do you think a young player will cope up mentally with such a public onslaught?

Will only be a loss to the team if such a massively talented guy loses his way.

With the number of matches both have played it is difficult to compare records.
Rizwan is a way better keeper than Pant and also a better test batsman. Pant's career isn't going anywhere.

He has played 56 international matches for India compared to someone like Sanju Samson who has only played 4 T20I's for India. And still Pant is the one who is mishandled by the team management lol. He is lucky to play as many games as he played for India. He is a below average LOI player.

Team management actually showed confidence in him by sending him above Dhoni in the semi final of the World Cup what did he do then? He keeps throwing his wicket and doesn't look like someone who can finish the game. The only thing he is capable of finishing is his own career by stuffing jalebis and chole bhature in his tummy. He should learn from Virat Kohli. His fans should shut up and ask him to get fit instead of whining and putting the blame on team management. :inti

He was NOT competing with Samson. Compare their FC records, their records for India A and even their IPL records. Pant has always been miles better. Below is a list of some of his achievements

- 1st keeper to score a 300 in Ranji Trophy
- First Indian keeper to score 1000+ runs in a FC season
- Fastest FC 100 for India
- FC average of 50+
- Fastest T20 100 for India
- First keeper to score 600+ runs in an IPL season
- First keeper to score a 100 in Eng and Aus
- Won a final for India A vs England Lions in England

All that showed in his performances in England and Australia. Earned his spot on merit and not due to some favour by the team management.

Then what happened? He was played as a specialist batsman and suddenly pushed to number 4 for India in the WC and since then it has been all downhill. A young keeper playing as a specialist batsman which he has never done in his life. Then the captain, coach, selector all make public statements against him. Compare this to the support Kohli got from his captain and coach when he was struggling.

If he is not good enough, drop him altogether from the team and let him focus on improving his cricket. Argument was he is a poor keeper and hence was dropped from LOIs, then how can you pick a poor keeper for Tests?
 
Actually, Sanju Samson has been picked only in T20 squad, in ODI squad we are going only with KL Rahul as keeper batsmen. There is no backup named in ODI squad.

In tests, Saha may be prioritised over Pant as first keeper in the XI but both are there in the squad.

Why exactly would you prioritise a 36 year old keeper prone to injuries and not groom a younger keeper? He was for almost 20 months between Jan 2018 to Sept 2019. Played 5 tests and got injured again which kept him out for nearly 12 months. This means he has missed all our key away test series. There are reports of him being injured after the last IPL match.

If the TM is not keen on Pant, despite his stellar performances during Saha's absence, why not try the India A keeper Bharat? He is tidy with the gloves and has a decent FC record with the bat.

The only reason I see is because of Saha's keeping skills, they may give Pant a bit more time to balance his batting and keeping game if he has still not able to maintain that balance.

If they are not trying any other keeper, it's quite obvious they haven't proved themselves enough to deserve a spot ahead of Pant. Pant was in reckoning because of his FC performance as well as IPL performance last year.

Out of the top 50 run scorers in the IPL this year NONE have a lower SR than Pant.

He played well today, very Adam Gilchrist like batting, cuts and pulls, but his glove work is still not upto par.. Mission accomplished if we can get both Pant and Saha in the playing 11

As i have always maintained, this guy is a once in a lifetime talent.

He kept very well , not even a single mistake.
Saha should be nowhere near the team especially away from home.I think the team realises this and that's why Pant was the keeper in this match

It's time Pant is given a longer rope and backing even in Indian Tests. Keeping will only improve by playing

His keeping in tests is outstanding. His last overseas tours were outstanding. His domestic keeping is and was outstanding. It clear its only the stupid pressure put on him which caused him to make mistakes in keeping. His basics are correct
 
He is good. Weight. Keep that in check.
Eat like an athelte.

Then you will see how Good he can be
 
We have to hear everything on PP. talking about a young 23 yr old cricketer and already predicting how his cricketing demise is going to be. Some uncles even know what he eats. Pant is going now where , he will come good soon as he adds experience

He's just 23. Even Rahane isn't consistent and he's our vice captain :))

He's shown enough talent to deserve better backing.If anything its good he's handling the undue scrutiny on him

He is freakish. By far the most talented WK batsman to come out of Asia since Dhoni in 2004.

He will be a monstrous player in the long run.

He is a ridiculously talented player. India should persist with him and Pant needs to work on his weaknesses. I'm sure he will come good if he works on his weaknesses.

He has shown signs of his potential in international cricket. Needs to add some consistency.

I am still not very sold on Pant. He has talent but very inconsistent. We have all been there on Pant hype train only to get disappointed. I would like to see more such performances from him to make my judgement. For me, Saha is still our no.1 keeper and should start in 1st test.
 
Tests might be his stronger suit, not the safest keeper to spinners but is a game changing batter in Tests.

100 and 150 in his very first tours of England and Australia. Sehwag and Laxman dont have 100s in at least one of those countries in their entire career. Dravid has only one 100 in Australia in his entire career

Almost like you dont want India and Indian players to do well. There is no other explanation for you deliberately hating youngsters who do well and then whining every time India wins

I've always considered him a pretty talented batsman. The things is that he needs to improve his temperament while batting. And he needs to work on his keeping.

But as a batsman he is definitely talented.
 
Imagine then what Ruhail Nazir will become - 125% better batsman & 200% better WK than this Pant guy......

Pretty close to Gilchrist as a batsman.
 
Pant is a fantastic talent with the bat but again he cannot keep wickets for India in Tests. He just drops too many catches and India cannot risk him keeping wickets. He sure can play as a batter alone but India need to look for someone else to keep. The way Saha kept yesterday showed how poor Pant is.

Absolutely ridiculous to compare him to Gilchrist in terms of batting at this stage. He hasn't even gotten a 1000 runs in test match cricket. He seems talented but even in todays innings, has been dropped twice including on 0.

Let him play for another couple of years and then compare him to Gilchrist. Pant isn't even close to De Qock yet let alone Gilchrist.

Not comparing to him man. Just talking about his batting skills which is actually close to Gilchrist, obviously results is what matters.
 
It was an excellent knock guys like Pandya Pant like going for it.. its good to have certain characters like that in the team espp LoI
