The Wrestling Discussion Thread

Triple H has even taken the fun out of dream matches. Because every goddamn match has to be a three way or a four way.

Sometimes you just wanna see two wrestlers you like get in the ring and have a good match. And a multi-man tournament is the perfect setting to do that without involving them in a full-fledged feud. You can even do babyface v babyface matches, and it can work.

But nah, let's just do endless amounts of three ways and four ways. Btw this also shows how gutless he is as a booker. Because its obvious that the only reason he is doing these is so he can have two big names and one guy who is just there to take the pin.

Styles vs Dwayne would be fantastic. Whatever people say about him, he held his own in that Mania match unlike the other returnees and legends did. And that match went for 40 mins.

AJ Styles would thrive when given a genuine big match scenario. Besides the rivalry with Cody, there’s not much he has been involved in during the Triple Doofus era.

Zero build, wrong territory and absolutely the wrong place and the wrong time to have AJ & Punk in the same ring in that capacity; and the crowd went mild when they locked up. People criticised the audience but do we really believe that every crowd is filled with smarks and their big phew smark? You need to adjust for a more mainstream audience and build the feud up to be something special first, you got the casuals now and the purists can heighten the heat levels. But what does the re!arded booker of the year know besides petty grudges and narrow creative.

Guys if you have a spare 10mins try to watch Oba Femi vs Jasper Troy (2nd NXT match LFG winner) for the NXT title from a few days ago; it personifies Shawn’s booking, I don’t even want to talk about it, just watch that match for that brief period, enuff said.

I am glad to see Taker doing well. I was wondering why he wasn't doing any more episodes of his podcast. Now it makes sense.

This man Taker literally expended his soul for us wrestling fans, we wont ever be able to repay the debt we owe him. It’s good to see he’s at peace with his career and life in general, I like how he has pulled back the curtain, he’s seriously hilarious and so chill, I can see why no one has ever said a bad word about him from both sides of the competition.

It may have taken a few years, but I’ve been warning ya”ll about what a cancer Phil Brooks is:

yup but i was talking about dwayne doing a decent enough job in that mania tag match. He had definitely lost his speed that he had back in the day but it would have been unreasonable to expect him to move at that speed at 50+ after a 20 year absence from ring and with all that added steroid muscle mass. He didn't make any botch and his selling was impeccable still.
AJ vs Rock will be another dream match we will probably never get to see apart from Dwayne vs HBK and Dwayne vs Bryan
Even though he worked with Randy in a tag match, him and Randy could have been a good feud as well.

Yeah Rocky doesn’t need to monkey about at 50+, only Goldberg was a dumb enough to think that and they actually almost pulled it off until his worst instincts sufficed and the booking got a bit crazy to. Like all the genuine greats; you become more psychological in your later years and as a heel, it’s more of a straightforward task for Dwayne with his heritage and family history; he was born to work that way and it would be a great clash for the way Styles works

years of alcohol use and physical stress will clog your arteries at that age. it's great that the facilities and care in developed countries esp US are so good that MI have much less mortality rates there.

Yeah but the aura Dwayne has is still unmatchable. Throughout that Cody Roman angle, he dwarfed Roman who was the most over guy at that time and probably still is. IMO there's no one other than Austin who can gravitate the audience attention away from Rock in the same ring. Taker was a nice surprise but man if it was Austin that night, the place would have gone even nuttier.

Roman was booked like Dwayne’s side chick when be came back, nothing needs to be said about the aura of the Tribal Chief. I don’t know what was so magnetic about grandpa huffing and puffing for nearly an hour, Bill Goldberg achieved more in his big return match in less time. If Austin came back, Dwayne would look like his kuthi again, good thing it never happened.

@shaz619 @BunnyRabbit @Suleiman One my my bucket list items is to watch a wrestling show live with one or all of you guys. If I'm ever in US or UK I will surely let you guys know. Very small possibility that I may come to US for Masters next year. Fingers crossed..... so @BunnyRabbit if that happens I will surely hit you up.
Though the way WWE is pricing tickets these days we might be in the nosebleed section :kp

Yup sure! I am planning to attend either 15th Aug Smackdown or the Cena's final appearance.

I will sell a kidney so all three of us can sit in the front row in green t-shirts like that guy at every E event

You'd actually have to sell a kidney to buy front row tickets lol. 750$ for a random SD.

I am not even attending the local show to me in a few months time, I could have got the crap tickets for the cheap seats during the pre-sale but I paid the same amount close to the front 5 years ago, I actually manage to appear on TV during one of the segments 🤣 Should have showed you and @RedwoodOriginal when you had Telegram

That would have been a big moment. Equivalent to Rey Mysterio unmasking

He’s being ruthlessly buried my smarks online 😂

To be fair to him, every dad should back their son like how Rikishi backs his and every high ego cousin should be treated like how Rikishi treated Rocky.

I do get some of Rikishi’s criticisms of Jey’s booking, although majority of the time there’s not a lot more you can ask for unless you change his gimmick completely

He looks at his son like he's his son lol. I get it. But he probably shouldn't voice his opinions so publicly because that just makes him look like a clown to the average wrestling fan who can see that Jey Uso ain't exactly the greatest thing since sliced bread

i can still use telegram. But don't really know how to use it properly.

If I reach you on an external platform I really need to show you my clip you will laugh your head off, I am visibly flipping the Mizz off in the politest way lmao
why miz? he's a nice dude apparently. you could have done it on someone like Seth, Alberto or even Stardust

Some of the neckbeards have been taking it way too far and with him being a past performer he’s entitled imo to voice his views, aint he got a pod or something, I don’t know what he has said that’s so offensive, I’ve listened to a few bits and bobs / was like yeah whatever. At the end of the day, it’s indirect criticism of H so am supportive of the guy and it’s not like he has a say in the booking side of things and all the stars we should have seen used much better over the past few years to be fair, Jey wasn’t ‘shoved’ down our throats per-say it was more organic and the casuals love him; in a world where your LA Knights, Sami Zayns, KO’s and others get their deserved shot, he has shown enough to play a part in that scene, ultimately this title reign was very short lived to and I have no major complaints, but I am worried for Gunther with Goldberg coming back; but business is business, if they do it right, maybe they could set a big rematch up at SS.

I just feel that a short reign for Gunther would be a mistake. The World title shouldn't be a hot potato belt. And they MUST do Gunther v Ilija Draganov for the World title at one of the PLEs, before Triple H Jr. cashes in on Gunther like we all know he will.

They could be going for the Jon Moxley Rocky 3 special :yk

Triple H Jr 🤣🤣 There have been some whispers that the WWE title is not far from his reach either

I wouldn't be surprised tbh. They already put two belts on him back in 2015. And back then he wasn't even an established name like he is today.

The reality tho :ROFLMAO:

No love for Big Jim

So I came across the clip on YouTube and tbh I am with the marks on this one lmao. Rikishi is trying to paint it like some kind of great injustice has been carried out against his son. I think he said like 5 times, what do you have against my boy? Like bro, do you watch the show? Have you seen how LA Knight has been booked for the past 3 years? He got over long before your boy. In general, his rant smacked of entitlement. Asking for writers to be fired eventhough he knows full well that it's Triple H booking the show. If you wanna criticize and lay your little pipebomb then atleast have the balls to call out the booking, instead of taking aim at a bunch of faceless writers.

The marks shouldn’t get to the point of serious abuse unless it’s for H imo, but nobody should be asking for x or y to be fired, I’d even keep H employed personally, somebody gotta clean the toilets right? Wanting people to lose their jobs is a bit too far even for a heathen such as myself.

Man if my dad let me start my own wrestling company the least I could do to repay him would be to turn into a profitable business that grows, makes money, improves in ratings and.....

.....nevermind 😶

Shah needs to take his puthar to the land of the extreme; old school Pakistani style, let the bodies his the floor. Maybe then he will see sense?

Speaking of the Rocky 3 special, my favorite squash match popped up on my TL :kp

You know I hated that but speaking of the greatest ever, surely it has to be the Ultimate Warrior getting rid of H :afridi followed closely by the squash of the Honky Tonk Man.

In the modern era; it would have to be the two matches between Berg & Lesnar, Survivor Series & the WM rematch, why is it that only Heyman knew how to book Berg, that’s how you make mega dollar with him and not get too greedy.

Honourable mention and I am cheating now; the Lesnar/Cena match from SS I think following the year Lesnar ended the streak, it was basically a 15 min extended squash. But I am cheating.

I don't know man Ilja first needs to get over with the main roster audience. There's 5-10 NXT stars who have been unable to connect with the main roster crowd even though they were mega over with NXT audience.
Gunther had a great match with Tyler Bate as well while the main roster audience doesn't even know who Tyler Bate is.

I am really worried about Oba Femi, Evans & Trick Williams (although at least he is TNA world champion)

Wrestling fans always take it too far. But it was hard to take anything Rikishi said seriously because of how blatantly biased and unreasonable it was.

To be very honest, Ilja ain't getting over with his personality or gimmick. If he's getting over, it'll be because of his matches. You don't need to overthink Gunther v Ilja too much. Just book a No. 1 contender's match on RAW and have Ilja with that. I feel like there is a No. 1 contenders match on RAW every week. Once people see Ilja in a main-event setting against Gunther, they will see the light. And once they get a taste of it, they'll want to see it again. And then you can really milk it and give it to them at a big show like WrestleMania.

It was not a bad match, but I wouldn't even put in the same stratosphere as the Gunther v Ilja matches, which are arguably some of the greatest matches of the modern era.

Man how is he going to leave there alive 🤣 He should manage El Grande, imagine the heat if he helped him beat Vikingo for the world title on that show, there would be rioting lmao
He's such a good heel lmao. I agree, I can't believe how he isn't a manager or an on-screen figure. Vince always saw the value in him once he became JBL but Triple Dips*it maybe doesn't.

Or Solo.
Solo was doing really good in NXT till they totally changed him after calling him up the main roster.
Solo has become a bit of a clown. Not that I'm complaining. This is the most entertaining he has ever been to me. But he ain't the second coming of Umaga like everyone expected him to be. Jacob is more talented, more natural and better at being that guy than Solo. Alot of it the booking, but part of it is a big bad, hungry wolf coming in and making his spot his own.

I don’t think anybody would have said anything if he backed Jimmy LOL

At this point, it’s worth querying if he’s Rikishi’s son 🤣 I always thought he looked a little too different to Jey to be a twin :yk3
As Cornette would say, what is he, the red-headed stepchild? :wahab2

Shah needs to take his puthar to the land of the extreme; old school Pakistani style, let the bodies his the floor. Maybe then he will see sense?
Nah he sounds like too much of a spoilt brat and his daddy spoils him. He should stay in Jacksonville and stick to destroying wresting, Fulham FC and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Plus, might not be that easy to find a crack and coke hook-up quickly here.

Okay that Cena-Lesnar match was legendary but I'm talking about short squash matches. I know this match was hotly debated backstage but Moxley's Rocky 3 rip-off storyline actually worked for me.

Those are all great squash matches but for some reason I really liked this one.

I guess Rikishi can take comfort in the fact that nothing the Usos do will ever be as laughably preposterous as his heel turn.:afridi1
It was a good heel turn and it gave us the memorable chokeslam from the top of the cell. And for some reason, Dwayne got even more over after losing the title to Kurt at No Mercy.

Nah I didn't like that weird squash match, given just a 2 week interval between the two matches.

Jacob is a different breed.
What Solo is doing right now is basically just letting his natural personality flow.
He was booked very well in NXT as the street fighter. How he was booked upon joining the Bloodline was stupid. It was like he was a mute henchman. And then suddenly became a leader. There was nothing organic about it.

The only two guys I can think of who got over due to their matches are Rey and Benoit. It would be an extremely different task for Ilja to reach that. As casual fans care about the feud than the matches.

They tried too hard to make Solo an enforcer that it didn’t fit earlier on. Then Jacob came and outclassed him in that role and that forced Solo to add a different dimension to his character of being more manipulative and have that evil charm / charisma. Some of his antics at MITB were p funny lol.

Been gradually become a fan of Solo. His character work has improved and his character work is far better than the other two Uso bros.

Yup his comedic timing is just his natural self. Like his brothers Usos.

So they put the belt back on Gunther just to have that stupid German v Yahud backdrop for a past it Goldberg 😂 🤡 what an idiot h is

Should’ve instead bought Muhammad Hasan out of retirement, far more fitting with his classic theme of the Arabian chant in the background 😂 @shaz619 @RedwoodOriginal @BunnyRabbit

But then everyone would be rooting against Berg given current situation.

If I am Gunther I’m like hell no I’m not putting you over, go back home before you get hurt.

I hope Goldberg gets his behind handed to him by Gunther.
His squash to Roman was the perfect ending already.
