The Wrestling Discussion Thread

One of the greatest Mania main-events ever. It was so refreshing to see two guys who take their time, know how to sell, and know how to tell a story in the ring. It was a proper WrestleMania main-event worthy of the billing. Punk elevated Roman to new heights but Roman was already near the top of the mountain. As a longtime Punk fan, it is great to see him accomplish everything he set out to accomplish, especially after his bitter departure in 2014. A match like this was probably the one thing missing from his resume. Roman too has solidified himself as the face of this era. 11 WrestleMania main-events shows that the company has believed in your drawing power and deliverability for more than a decade. That's the kind of stuff that puts you in conversation with the greats of the business. As mediocre as most of the show was (on both nights) this match and the Brock-Oba match delivered in spades and gave fans something to remember.

Side-note: Goosebumps with the Miseria Cantare opening for Punk.

Man the indy nerd in me giggled with glee at the start, and no doubt, that was Reigns best ever singles match. Funny I posted my thoughts same time as you, and I think we need to start discussing Punk among the personified greats of this industry; I just wish we got to see this more consistently but I am going to ride this wave for now because it was a special night and every Punk fan out there; no words what we’ve seen here, a lot of the time we get lost in nostalgia and those we grew up watching, but Punk is up there with the greatest, this second run is equally good as Shawn’s in the 2000’s.

I wonder what the general response has been to the ME, I been avoiding spoilers for 24 hours 😅 The other matches I didn’t care who won or lost and got to see Oba live because it started around 11pm here in the UK

Anyone who was a fan of Punk in 2011, 2007 or even 2004 is giggling right now because it's like WE TOLD YOU THIS GUY WAS GOOD. Why did it take so long for you guys to realize this? The bald doofus called this one of the best Mania man-events too... its just a shame he had to be 56 years old to finally see the light. But yes, I think Punk can definitely be talked about in that regard. And he unquestionably will by the time he hangs it up.

This match teased something that I'm just dying to see and that's a Punk heel turn. And now with how this match ended, I feel the stage is set for something amazing if these clowns just let Punk cook. Because as great of a babyface he is, you have no idea what he is capable of when he turns heel.

Yes bro, the roid rage version of me from 2013 has rehabbed overnight, it took this long and a podcast with a guy who shares a bank account with his momma! Punk has been the prime professional & literally taken everything H has chucked at him and tried to turn chicken sh!t into salad, otherwise I think if Punk was remotely off another view strongly, H would have tried to sabotage him in some way, but here, and now, Punk got friends in high places to & influence, and you can’t simply nullify one of your biggest draws, maybe it was more straight forward when H was a talent.

The mark in me wanted Punk to win but as the match manifested, the same thoughts began to go through my head as yours & Punk couldn’t be a certain someone in AEW or the E, and the crowd feedback was very very interesting seeing it was an international audience, it reinforces Reigns going over and they need him now to if he can be there regular, but with Punk, man I really pray H doesn’t strike when the iron is cold with this one

Minor nit-pick but Roman hitting Punk with the steel steps in full-view of the referee and not getting disqualified was prosperous. That spot shouldn't have been in the match, especially since Roman was working as the de-facto babyface for most of the match.

Also, Roman needs to stop with the loud trash-talking in between the match. It looks very showy and performative.

I'm not ready to buy that Brock Lesnar is retired. There are alot of red herrings. We may have seen his last WrestleMania match, but I don't buy that he is retired. I think we will see him in the ring one more time.

I have become a fan of Oba Femi. :inti

He is the real deal.

Good mic skills too.
Yeah and they actually let him dress like a star instead of forcing him to wear childish merchandise like the other superstars

This is important in character building. Before it was the Rock with his exquisite shirts and attire. Then they also let Batista come out with some of the best suits and shades, he looked like the champ carrying the company for sure!

Gunther reminds me of Farhan. Zero personality and a complete hack. And we have some misguided people comparing him to CM punk lol
@Bhaijaan this was a dead giveaway. Comparing him to someone bad would’ve made it at least slightly believable. But you compared him to a wrestler you actually like. Rookie mistake.

You could make fifty accounts and I’d still verbally slice you up like a pomfret on a Karachi grill. You can’t go toe-to-toe with me on the mic and walk out unscathed. I'm going to send you back to the days when you were a 𝚠̶𝚘̶𝚕̶𝚏̶ closeted BJP supporter in sheep's clothing.

I don’t know what your goal is here, but I sincerely hope one day you spin the wheel and land on a persona you’re comfortable with. Because wearing all these masks and skins can’t be good for your well-being or sanity. There's a reason they say you shouldn't live the gimmick.

It works extremely well when he's a heel.

imagine how free a person can be when he works tirelessly to maintain a character on an online forum and that too with multiple accounts. :ROFLMAO:

Very happy for Ethan Page. Big fan. He seems like the guy if any of us who grew up watching wrestling late 90s through PG era had the talent and skill to be pro wrestlers, then he’d be the guy we become.

I do think he has future main event potential and out of the all the new talent coming from NXT, IMO he has the highest ceiling, AEW or not.

I think he got you with the Gunther comment 🤣 Credit to him

I didn’t watch the last 2 Wrestlemanias. They don’t do it for me anymore.

WWE has always been a product targeting the American fanbase despite its global appeal.

I find it arrogance of WWE to not have a diverse enough roaster with a true global appeal. Out of sheer love for Pro Wrewtling many of us have to force ourselves to engage with Wrestlers and storyline’s we don’t connect with culturally.

They have Japanese, Mexican and now even African appealing wrestlers and yet no Pakistani, Indian or Arab guy when they collectively make up a huge chunk of its global fanbase.

Just watch these matches:

Orton vs Cody
Oba vs Lesnar
Punk vs Reigns

And I just booked Bhaijaan’s best Wrestlemania in years 🔥

Because Cole explained it & it has happened so many times now, I was fine with it but found it interesting it got no heat compared to the lo blow lol The trash is a Reigns thing, we saw more of it I think because Punk was goading him throughout the match lol

I expect nothing less from a tulla supporter to fall for the disgusting lies of Suleiman baaji who has her midlife crisis and Saxenas. All these Suleimaan baajis and Sehwags and Saxenas have been caught with their clothes down lying through their teeth before and fully exposed. I challenge anyone again - let there be the greatest curse on the one who is lying about bhaijaan whether it is Saxena or Suleiman Baaji or I. Ameen.

Thanks for that @Bhaijaan. Thanks for putting the final nail in your coffin. Because now I have zero doubts. The trap was laid and you fell in hook, line and split personality syndrome. I don't know why you don't just admit it at this point, because the cadence and style of writing couldn't be any more similar. But oh well... people get off in strange ways I guess

Brock's retirement was surprising. I don't blame him for retiring at Wrestlemania. It was against a more than credible opponent, and he saved himself from Triple H's inept booking of his retirement angle, which no doubt would have seen him tapped out like a ***** to Gunter at Summerslam. Brock did the right thing.

Roman vs Punk was amazing. One of the best matches I have seen in a long time. But I would have preferred if Punk had won. He has main-evented Wrestlemania twice, and even though I don't consider night 1 as the main event, it is still considered as the main event in the record books. But the point is that he has lost in both of his WrestleMania main events. But credit to Punk for giving the sort of performance that he did. The man is 47, and although he has clearly lost a step, he is making up for it with his excellent understanding of how to tell a story in a match. One of the GOAT performers, as far as I am concerned.

It annoys me that we don't have such a thing as rematch clauses anymore. Back in the good old days, a former champion would get a rematch upon losing the title. That is the case no more. I would love to see Punk and Roman's feud to continue for months. But Punk appears to be starting an angle with midcarder Cody Rhodes.

Don't lose hope just yet. It could still happen:afridi1

There’s something about this finish where the guy doesn’t get flattened by an explosive finisher... they just reach a point where they have run out of gas. They still have the will but the body just can't do it any more. It got me with Flair v HBK, and it got me again the other night when Punk buckled under the weight of Roman on his shoulders and then missed the slap. I thought it was masterful storytelling and not a finish you tend to see alot, but one that felt poetic and fit perfectly for a match of this caliber. The feud was after all built on Punk calling Roman a nepobaby who had everything handed to them, and Roman calling Punk old and past it. Ultimately, one of them had to be proven right, so in that regard, I thought they did a brilliant job. Because alot of it was reality-based.

If they can use this match as fuel for Punk turning heel then that would elevate this match even further. And they would be stupid not to, tbh.
