The Zulqarnain Haider Story

Just talked to a person in Pakistan who knows Zoni's family. I don't know if he has talked to Zoni's family or not since the news came out. This is what he had to say.

The players who are still involved in match fixing do not want any other person as wicket keeper except Kamran Akmal. As far as I know, Zoni is a very simple and humble man. The current players of Pakistan team are still involved in match fixing except a few (2-3?).

The 4th ODI was also fixed, Pak was supposed to lose this match but unexpectedly, Zoni won that match for Pak. He left the team because of team management and the players who want Kamran Akmal instead of him.

Did Zoni win us that match? Come on, people! He scored the winning run. If the rest of the team was bent on losing, he would never even be in a position to hit that winning run. Is no one bothering to look at the scorecard of that match to see which players actually brought the match to that position?

Thats why wahab hit 18(10) when no one expected that from him.
YK 73.
Afridi and razzaq quickfire 30s when they could have slowed it down.

Farhat and fawad.

Regardless of whether its true or not, giving interviews to these tabloids (for free of course :ibutt) is not the way to go about it. If his life is in danger then go speak to the police, giving interviews so soon after this incident will damage his credibility and his image, but that'll be his fault and no one else's.

Hopefully the matter is nothing serious and him and his family are in no danger.

well he hasn't given any indication that he's going to talk to the UK press

i was just pointing out that many on here are already embarking on a campaign to discredit him if in the event he does

true it should be wahab who should be on the run ..hes the one who won us that match ..maby he didnt coz hes scared of trott :p

If Zoni gets messages after one win... I highly doubt Akmal has never had any contact from this shady figures. He's definitely in their pocket

no surprises there.. i always suspected that the PCB itself is involved and it probably goes all the way to the top..(zerdari)

i am sure that son of his mother has a fixed commission on these match fixing earnings too.. how else would you justify Butt staying around despite all the problems we have had.. how else would you justify kami hanging around despite all the people saying he needs to go and manager(inti) and coach (aaqib) suspecting he is involved in fixing..

maybe im going over the top here but this is afterall pakistan cricket..

has something like that ever and I mean EVER happened in international cricket history that a major player of an international team goes AWOL minutes before the game to resurface in a different continent a few hours later citing threat to his life and welfare?? how impotent does that make our board and team management look>??

I am sure he was scared he would get shanked by a fellow team mate "prison break" if he had not done that.

there was a time when i used to think "no that cant be right. that sounds too ridiculous" but I think we are way beyond that point now.. Anything is possible.

But i still think nothing will come of it.

Osman Samiuddin talking to Geo:
- I find it strange that Zulqarnain Haider went directly - and only - to the media. I understand why he wouldn't want to go to the PCB, but he could've gone gone to the ICC's ACSU, or if he doesn't trust them either and felt his life was in danger, he could've gone to the police. Why did he choose to go to the airport, without informing anyone?
- There can be many reasons for him to ask for his passport, it's the only form of ID acceptable at many places overseas, so I don't think the fact that PCB gave him his passport necessarily suggests that the board is involved in sending him away.
- PCB needs to include a social media policy in their Code of Conduct.

Someone who knows his stuff, talking sense.

Not sure if this has been posted, but I know we have a lot of conspiracy theorists on here. Is he gesturing at anyone in particular from the pitch as he walks off at 6: 42?

A lot of people including Abdul Qadir are raising that point. And it is very strange indeed - I mean, my understanding says if it was regarding match-fixing, then the ICC HQ was pretty close by. If he wanted to complain about match fixing he could have gone to Inti the Headmaster as well. What was the reason for going to London?! Even in a worse situation, if he had any evidence or wanted t testify against Aamer, Asif and Butt, I'm sure there would have been better ways to contact SY than just running away hours before a crucial decider. A death threat to him and I am 110% sure his family would have raised tremendous hue and cry over their brother/husband/son's safety and appealed to the government to protect him etc. Yet the family seemed pretty calm.

Any other thoughts people? I still do not understand why he'd want to go to England of all places.

Wasn't the gesture towards the media room? Proving to the hacks that he can bat in a pressure situation.

Today Hafeez hit 50, U Akmal hit 50, Razzaq and Afridi hit quick fire 20/30, we still lost. So, what is your point?

Watch ARY News right now to hear Abdul Qadir, Sarfaraz Nawaz, Basit Ali on Kashif Abbasi's show talking Zulqarnain. (AKA "How many loonies can you fit on one talk show") :P

Pakistan is blessed with pea size brain expert.

Zoni did not inform anyone bc him and his family were under threat if he inform anyone

what a joke man.

Its like our everyone is trying to one up each other in the shame Pakistan department

Didn't he land in the UK a while back? Why doesn't he say whatever he had to and get done with it. Such a horrid soap opera this is.

May be because team management and a few players in the team had made his life so difficult... that he could not stay with the team......and it was not a "police" case or a "criminal" case.

Why did he choose to go to the airport, without informing anyone?

Who should he had informed... same team management and players who had made his life hell? He informed his family and left.

He HAS! The only way his whereabouts have been tracked is because he contacted the media - not the PCB or ICC or police or any other institution. He contacted GEO reporter Sohail Imran/Irfan via texts saying "I'm going to England. Provide "sequarity" for my family." and whatnot. After reaching Eng he just spoke with Sohail Imran! (Its on GEO atm)

ICC option w as still open. Any news regarding match-fixing and the ICC would have been the best person to go to. Forget team mgmt and players, why not approach the ICC?

Zoni talked with GEO from UK

Breaking news on GEO News. Haider is in London and talked with GEO NEWS. Noting more yet

Did Zoni win us that match? Come on, people!
But dropped catches in the past have lost us matches. Have you forgotten Sydney? May be, somebody wanted him to drop a couple of catches to lose 4th ODI.

My guess is that the "kamran Group" in the team made his life miserable, he could not take it and left. After all, he is only 24 years old.

Nothing can be said untill we get to hear from the man himself.

Exclusive on GEO - he's comeout of the airport!

Spoke with Sohail Imran.

Said left Dubai due to severe threats to his family. One person made such threats to his face.

While he hasn't thought about political asylum, he does want to call his family over to England - his elder daughter has English visa he's trying for his younger daughter as well - and he wants his family to come to England and he wants to settle there.

What will Geo do for him? Nothing

He should have contacted ICC or Police or anyone who can help him out.

Is Zoni going to reveal where he is staying ? or go into hiding ? not a good idea speaking to GEO

That's really chickening out. He ought to have told the team management about this before running away like this.

Zoni: staying there on his own expenses.

Immigration officials want him to be represented by a proper lawyer.

Has one month visa of England.

Sohail Imran said he was dodging some questions, but he sounded relaxed and satisfied overall.

Why on earth wouldn't he tell him teammates/team management of his decision?

Was it someone in the team that threatened him then?

You would have thought he could speak to geo/ news of the world/ 10 downing street/ the queen from dubai too.

I would have thought all it would take was a fax/ call/ letter.

Unless he feared for his safety and went to a country where a pakistani politician was shot murdered a couple of months ago.

I did not know that. Has he given the reason for his running away? If not, then nothing else matter.

ICC option w as still open. Any news regarding match-fixing and the ICC would have been the best person to go to. Forget team mgmt and players, why not approach the ICC?

If he had gone to ICC, saying some players are making my life difficult in the team.... which is not criminal, not match fixing... what do you think, ICC would have done?

Then, there are ICC offices in London. He can go there... but I am sure, wanted to get away from the team to feel safe and not under any pressure. Now, ball is in his court to justify and explain his reason to running-away..... and he better have a damn good one.

Why on earth wouldn't he tell him teammates/team management of his decision?

What better than to rat that team member out in front of the ICC?

Still dont understand why that is related to London.

This all sounds so stupid. Zoni did nothing exceptional in the 4th ODI, he just stayed at the crease. The match was Pakistans to lose after Wahabs cameo. He had zero effect on the outcome on that game, and he did drop a tough chance and missed a run out.

Zulqarnain spoke to Geo via phone. He's staying in a London hotel on his own expenses, has 1-month visa for the UK, v. worried about family.

I think the details of the text messages are there on GEO's website, but he's been in contact with that reporter all day.

His main pretext of his escapade remains death threats.

Now that, my dear brother - are 2 different things. Making life hell/difficult to survive - go speak with the mgmt. or captain or be man enough to deal with it himself.
If its match fixing - then the ICC which is already under pressure to deal with corruption in cricket, they would have welcomed any information with open arms.

Agreed.

Why won't he say why he suddenly disappeared? He does have to state the reason and pretty quickly too.

Maybe he found england to be a safe place compared to pakistan..

But wouldn't a cricket ground be the safest option?

No gunda is going to go after a player on the pitch!

Could've easily made the trip after the game instead of costing us a series win.

Talking to Geo doesn't appear to be the best option and also as some posters have pointed out cricket isn't the be all and all.

Life is far, far more important.

So Zoni is in UK and initially our captain didn't even know about it?:)) Here is what Afridi said
"At the ground, no official explanation was forthcoming. Captain Shahid Afridi said Haider was resting while Waqar Younis, the team coach, suggested the team manager would be better placed to speak on his whereabouts"

:)))

In his own words, Sohail Imran is saying - "Ek dhamki" ki waja se yeh sab huwa hay.

Of course he knew.....he did not want to reveal anything.... :S

His friend called him very humble, isnt that what friends are supposed to do.

Seems abit of a rushed decision especially after getting disciplined and why would you need a passport to get a sim card which is apparently what he told management.

News of the world might have a new exclusive this sunday.

well thats being a fool , going to uk like that , was the only thing he could have done ? after everything surfraced .... surely it will get to police .... don't tell me he will get asylum in UK lol ... nice move .... he was not sure if he is gonna be part of pakistani team for long
