The Zulqarnain Haider Story

Excuse me?

Which matches having you been watching?

Poor batting? Poor catching? You sure? Get your facts right before posting poor ill-thought posts.

he did drop 2 catches in last match, missed stumpings too. and his batting is well.......

What began from a precarious situation (i.e facebook message) has turned into a seriously worrying situation. I would love to hear his reasoning behind fleeing Dubai at such short notice.

I still find his running away as slightly odd and perplexing. Surely, the ACSU security is not wholly incompetent that he cannot trust his life being safe in their hands?! Wouldn't running away make him more likely to face the wrath of those threatening him?

Pakistan cricket just can't wriggle itself out of these controversies. One after another seems to pop up and the worse part is each time the crisis is unique.

"He was 5 minutes late last time, now is 15 hours late. Curfew is not working sir" :inti

"Increase the fines" :ibutt

I dont know what to say anymore. Pak cricket = Star plus soap opera

Osman Samiuddin is reporting that Zoni was caught with possessing alcohol in 2006 while touring Abu Dhabi. Don't care whether he drinks but breaking the law isnt the best thing.

He landed at Heathrow ... don't know when is he going to speak up?

Did he?

Thats sad development then :(

I am having a feeling that the British tabloids will have a field day with this. This could be the preamble to something really big, guys. More reasons for ICC to ban us. As far as drinking is concerned, I think it tells a lot about someone's character.

Okay. the players involved in the 2006 incident were Hasan Raza, Taufeeq Umar, Misbah ul Haq, and Zulqarnain Haider.

...The boys just wanted to have a fun cricket... :yk

Misbah though... :))

So this is what i have gathered so far :

He got 1 " bad msg " from a mysterious man on his phone for not losing the match . Maybe the bookies approached him and wanted him to lose the match but he went on to win it . I am thinking he is going to approach the Scotland Yard investigating :amir:asif:butt's case and tell them everything he knows

Oh God !

lol the typical american insurance scenario when someone is caught these days.dig deep and check for any pre exisitng condition.

Maybe this is all pre planned by PCB to help the cases of the three players in spot fixing case.

Zulqarnain haider ke pass 3 month ka veeza hai : Zonis brother

How does Zoni have 3 month visa when it would have ended in September.... Something does'nt add up here.. and why would jump on plane to UK so quickly without telling anyone

He has been in UK prior to this summer, playing for local asian league team and working in a restaurant. I know this because, I played a cricket match in early September and the Captain of the opposing team was a young pakistani guy and we got talking about pakistan. He mentioned to me that Haider had worked worked in his Brother's restaurant and played for his team in 2009 and infact has been playing regularly for them.

all the big players plus a lot of famous pakistanis drink

adnan sami
salman ahmad
wasim akram
imaran khan
Mohammad Ali Jinnah
Waqar Younis
Shoaib Akhtar

etc etc

i dnt care if they drink as long as they perform or do what is required of them.

Don't care about the drinking. But if someone is breaking the law and is willingly doing so, that tells u something about his character.

Dont bring this sunni/ shia stuff here. Who are the deserving shia players outside the team? Ridiculous!

I honestly dont get the Zoni bashing here, the poor guy IGNORED the bookies and WON the match probably turning down a huge down of money, and he is still getting insulted like his name ends with Butt.

I dont understand PP posters...

i think everyone wants to get to the bottom of this. If this is related to match fixing, then Zoni should be defended and helped.

:))) Keep trying maybe you will get through and record the convo . :P

Don't call too much though, if this is something serious and the police check his mobile and see Paradox's number calling about 100 times, they may mistaken him for the "bad man" Zoni was refering to... :waqar

Like I said....

He deserves a medal if he kept his honour and turned it all down.....

Then should he not have gone to Iran for assylum ? :)

well that obviously isn't why he's gone awol, i was just trying to clarify what the poster above meant by this being a 'sectarian' issue.

i don't even know if he's a shia/sunni/whatever! just heard from someone that he was.

i think haider will make explosive revelations and appy for assylum in UK

My suspicion is that he wasn't supposed to win the last ODI and now the mafia are after him.

He has asked for protection for his family in Pak. i think he will get in touch with ICC at Lords and expose everything/everone.

Also, he has a few friends on this forum, he might be staying with them on arrival..

I hope he does.

The most explosive revelation he can make is exposing the phony pretext if his sending home this summer.

He never was injured and it shows that high ups in the PCB were also involved in match fixing.

fixed.

And what on earth was the team's designated security officer doing? As far as I know Pakistan is the only team who employ one?

Sectarianism is a mindset. It usually comes to fore when jahils are trying to make a point.

Zoni was a security risk because he was willing to talk. H

Is that good or bad in your opinion?

I think it will be good to bring it all out in the open..
I'm sure some on this forum know whats going on (has a few friends).

Him running off for match-fixing reasons would mean that everyone else in the team is guilty of match-fixing - otherwise why haven't they run away as well.

Sorry but it doesn't make sense.

just say him on sky news, looks like sharukh khan, yeh tau famous ho gaya he

I agree....

But i dont think he will say anything over and above himself...

Sky just showing the winning runs he made in the 4th ODI just wondering who he was showing his fist to in the stand ..not sure if its any relevance but it could be .

I really hope nothing will happen to him and his family. It's amazing how Pakistan cricket always manages to surprise us. Just when you thought you had seen it all, they come up with the unpredictable. I also hope light will be shed on this matter soon, it's all very worrying.

hmmm, it definitely a weird episode, to say the least, had taken all the attention away from the game.

a cricketer with limited ability who got into the team coz of being related to a selector knew that he wont b able to survive more than a series and this wud b his last series....so decided to leave on a high after winning pak a match and get permanent county and league teams contract in england and live happily ever after

if he went to another country or went to the police it would have been a genuine threat he knows he has now future has a keeper so he trying to get a asylum in uk

I have a feeling that Zaqi was asked by the pcb officials or one of the mafia members to lose the game but he refused to do so. I just read his status on facebook and although the english isn't very good but using a slight of sense you can clearly see that he is trying to say that one man isn't happy with him hitting the winning runs. I guess he was threatened if he refused to lose the game and left the team knowing his life is in threat and also texted a journalist from GEO saying to provide security for his family.

Zaqi has a very good personality and is very passionate towards cricket and strongly against match fixing because I remember in his previous status on f'book he did say that he was proud of ICC with the strict rules, my mind is saying something is not right, the whole pakistan cricket team is corrupted.

I seriously hope this is not a topi drama, how many more ways we Pakistanis can find to crook the world, only if they use this mind towards +ive things.

Well said.

when i read about Zoni missing and getting threats, the first thing that come to my mind is that Kamran Akmal may be involved in it.

Interesting. Can you please prove these claims of yours?
