What's new

The Zulqarnain Haider Story

Waqar younis in the morning talking to Pommie about haider, "its all good, im not really sure, manager will give u a better story" looked pretty relaxed to be honest.

He looked relaxed even in Spot Fixing controversies.

Waseem Khan: "So, what will be the outcome of this shattering and depressing news on the team, and in what state of mind they will be?... Hoping for the best. Where are ICC's James Bond Guys?. Mr. Justin Green Plz help out...!"
i saw this comment on cricinfo and i agree with this guy

Guys is this true that I've also heard that :ibutt is supposed to be going to the game and still hasn't left his room for the ground!

OMG..... just woke up to this terrible new. I hope, he is safe, alive and well.

All this talk about him going to the UK only because he wants politcal asylum is absurd. If that was the case he would have done it whilst he was here in England. Somethings happened and it looks as if he has been threatened and someone from the management has given him his passport so that he can flee to the UK.. This guy seems to have really got under the skin of the betting mafia and now they are after him. I hope the PCB and ICC support him.

shahzaib Hasan, Mohammad Hafeez, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Umar Akmal†, Fawad Alam, Shahid Afridi*, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Akhtar, Wahab Riaz, Abdur Rehman

I wouldn't be surprised if it is a case of him getting dropped to bolster batting, and him going crazy ......

AAJ News reporting that Umar Akmal on the sidelines was stating that Zulqarnain Haider left for London.

Apparently, Zulqarnain received a message from someone before the 4th ODI. The guy wanted him to make sure Pakistan lose the 4th ODI. However, Zulqarnain played a match winning role and ensured victory for his team. : GEO

..if that is the cae, then I want this tour to be called off and the Pakistan banned from International cricket..enough is enough...players lives come first. ...where are the ICC's Sherlock Holmes'????

Geo saying they got msg from him saying he is going to UK.

1. Managment have team passorts. How did he got his passport back ?
2. Did he had visum for UK ? Did he applied before coming to dubai ?
3. Why not go to police so they can capture bad guys.

Very very strange

first of all some of the posts on ehre are pathetic and show up how thick some people are..

secodnly it all seems quite obvious that Zoni has been ferreted out of teh country with the full knowledge of the management..he has probably been sent to england to lie low until things can be sorted out..someone in teh management probably inti or butt himself has contacted a friend or someone who can look after zoni..hence why butt is on his way urgently..

thirdly im sure butt and co will be contacting the icc and acsu about this and trying to get to the bottom of this..this maybe the one time where butt having connections with the govt may help zoni..

fourthly it clearly seems someone has issued death threats against zoni and his family...so lets pray that he is ok and nothing happens to his family!!

in the emantime the team should concentrate on winning this match for zoni and his family!!

If you fear for your life why announce you are going to London. Its not too hard to track down what time the flights from Dubai to London are and for these "fixers" to be waiting for him at the airport

Zulqarnain Haider goes missing
Osman Samiuddin
November 8, 2010

Pakistan wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider has gone missing ahead of the deciding ODI against South Africa at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The PCB has begun an inquiry into the matter and has informed the ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit as well as local security officials of Haider's disappearance.
"He is missing and we found this out in the morning when getting ready to come to the stadium," Nadeem Sarwar, PCB's general manager of media, told ESPNcricinfo. "He did not say anything to the team management about this at all. We have initiated inquiries into the matter. The ACSU has been informed and is being kept in the loop. Local security officials have also been alerted."
Raza Haider, Zulqarnain's brother, said the wicketkeeper had reportedly received threats. "I spoke to Zulqarnain after the fourth ODI and he told me he had gotten some kind of threats after that game, but he gave no details," Raza said.
A cryptic message left as a status update on the player's Facebook page said: "leaving pakistan cricket because get bad msg fr 1 man fr lose the match in last game." The last match that his Facebook status seems to refer to is the fourth ODI of the series, another closely-fought thriller, in which Haider's unbeaten 19 took Pakistan to victory with one wicket and one ball to spare.
A TV reporter for Geo, a leading Pakistani news channel, said that he had received a similar text message from Haider earlier on Monday and also an indication that he might fly to the UK. The channel reported one of its correspondents receiving a text message from Haider asking for security for his family in Lahore. The passports of players are generally kept with management officials but Sarwar said Haider had requested for his last night.
"He took his passport from us last night on the pretext of needing it for something," Sarwar said. "It is normal practice for he could have needed it for any number of things."
In Pakistan, senior superintendent of police Rana Faisal said security had been provided for Haider's family in Lahore. "We have deployed a dozen police officials at Haider's residence, so that they can be guarded properly if there is any threat," he said.
Other PCB officials were unavailable for comment on the reasons for Haider's non-arrival. Team manager Intikhab Alam said: "I can't make much comment on this, but I can only confirm that Haider did not come with the team to the ground and we are looking for him."
Television channels spoke to Haider's relatives, including his other brother Aqil, but they weren't aware of his whereabouts. Aqil said he had spoken to his brother on Sunday night but was given no indication of his actions. At this moment neither the ICC nor its watchdog, the ACSU, is involved in any investigations on Haider's disappearance. "As of now there is nothing like that. We have nothing to do with it," an ICC source told ESPNcricinfo. "The fact that he left on his own is very clear. The reason still are unclear."
Haider's brief international career has not lacked incident. Though he had played a Twenty20 international for Pakistan - against South Africa - in 2006-07, he made his Test debut only earlier this year. He replaced Kamran Akmal for the second Test against England this summer, and made a fighting, widely-lauded 88 in the second innings. He picked up a finger injury during the game and flew back soon after, missing the rest of the tour. He did indicate at the time that he was unhappy at being sent back so quickly, though the issue did not go much further. He was selected again for the current series and has figured in the headlines again, on and off the field. Haider was fined by the PCB on Sunday for breaking team curfew during the ODI series against South Africa.
As a result of the confusion, Pakistan announced their XI for the final game early and made three changes; Umar Akmal, Shahzaib Hasan and surprisingly, Mohammad Yousuf, came into the side. Akmal will, in all likelihood, take over Haider's role. Yousuf only arrived in Dubai yesterday, after recovering from an abductor strain, and wasn't expected to take part in the ODIs at all.

Seriously i dont know what to say, He has been missing for how long? what happened to the 8pm restrictions ? Who saw him last time? PCB should be concerned rather then guessing about him running away to get other country's nationality.

I'm sure it has something to do with match fixing and threats
Terrible news

If you fear for your life why announce you are going to London. Its not too hard to track down what time the flights from Dubai to London are and for these "fixers" to be waiting for him at the airport

Decoy. Prob going far east.

How about looking at the CCTV cams around the hotel? Surely it can't be difficult to spot a huge guy leaving.

If he took his Passport... then again its miss management from our management as well...
its amazing he is telling media person that he got threats.. and media always highlight these things... he can ask team management for security..
i think so he is not secure now.. if all is right ... i think so another bad new for PAKISTAN and Pakistan Cricket :( :( :( .... what can we say more ... its hurting ... :((( we cant do anything now.. except to Pray .... May ALLAH(S.W.T) Bless him... if all is goood.. and May ALLAH(S.W.T) Bless PAKISTAN and PAKISTAN Cricket as well...

i think so even if he got his passport.. they can find it from Dubai airport and other airports.. if he is going to any other country... may be dubai police will trace him now... but just Pray all is ok .. inshaALLAH

I have to listen to him before i can belive ANY THING. Maybe he is taken hostage and they want Pakistan to loose they match ?

I dont belive in media before i listen to Haider.

It seems quite simple for me by judging at the players body language.

Everyone knows where Zoni is. Probably Zoni got some serious-level death threats for winning the last match and PCB decided to provide him extra security therefore they have sent him to a safe place.

And they can trace last incoming and outgoing calls.. incoming and out going messages through mobile company...

Crazy stuff !!

Hope he and his family are safe.

This is the price you pay for trying to be an honest guy in Pak !

Just heard from someone at the DSC they they've located him, he's in Karachi now.

Oh, Alhamdulila, thanks for the update

Let's hope the info is authentic and is reliable.

Never know - for instance, other Pak journos at DSC saying Geo making up half this stuff. Professional jealousy?

Well done Zulqarnain for not selling himself and his country!

BUT he should have informed the team management!!! Security barha detay uski!!

please dont act naive. When the whole team management is involved in match fixing then thers no point actually to tell anyone.
Wait he shud have called the PM and told him .. oh wait hes a corrupt MF as well.. pakisatn as a nation is just sad.

LOL! Geo guys saying Zoni is NOT in Karachi - he's at Dubai airport, on way to London! :))

And the Geo guy is apparently talking on phone with him right now.

As always - jitne moun, utni baatein. Rumour upon rumours.

If Zoni left becuase he felt threatened by the bookies, then that easliy explains the dropped catches by Kamran Akmal. A couple of dropped catches can easily alter the result of a match, specially in ODIs and T20s.

GEO guys are screwed up.
Stop talking to them, please!

The first thing the Pak govenment needs to do is to ensure he and his family are safe. If he is still sending texts using his mobile, I am sure his whereabouts in Dubai can be traced. Provide him safe custody in Dubai itself or if he wants to go to UK, let him go there with proper arrangements.

The efforts of everyone needs to be directed at ensuring safety of Zoni and his family.

Sama TV is reporting Zulqarnain had left for UK.... Emirates Air line EK 209....
dont know its true.. but its breaking news on SAma TV

what the hell is he gona do in Uk...... a meeting with mazhar majeed perhaps??

Whatever is the case with Zoni...

Such a promising career is now blighted in controversy and chaos...

Why are the youngsters in our team so vulnerable and easily intimidated???

So his brother is saying I know where he is but................... he is playing with the words

I knew this only a matter of time...Zoni could not keep the Mafia man Akmal out of the team for too long....I fear for his life....Now the Mafia favourite AKMAL is going to be back in the team for sure. Also why is Akmal Junior keeping when Asad Shafiq is a part time keeper????

just saw this:O.dunno how to react.international player goes missing on tour?Pakistan cricket continues to surprise us

Or even Younis Khan (who has kept in international cricket as well)

U akmals keeping has been decent so far

Everyone man the airports! Get to the airports that have any flight incoming from dubai.

I will sit and home and watch the cricket dont worry

If he is indeed headed for UK and if SAMA is giving the right flight number, I'd say they are nothing but idiots. Big ones at that because the guy obviously felt threatened for his life and now they are REPORTING his escape routes so they can inform people who are only concerned with getting news...I mean really, is it THAT important to KNOW everything? If someone hurts him because his escape was reported, it would show just what Pakistan does to people who are not corrupt...we make news out of them and in the end they suffer and fade from our memories. Its just so sad that we've got so many attention seekers...including TV channels.

yeah, giving out his flight number will ensure his safety

Yes, but if he is texting them this information, I'm not sure he minds.

The question is that why is he coming to the UK. If suppose it might be that he was threatened by someone in pakistan.

I hope he is all right but i think if he decided to get asylam in UK, it will be the best thing for him. Even though i do like him but i do not see any good future for him in Pakistan cricket, since as a keeper he is not that great to be warranted a place in team without batting skills. So sooner or later he will be dropped for ever.

But he seems a hard working guy, so in UK he could make decent livelihood with his hard work.

disturbing news indeed. I hope his family are being looked after by the authorities :(

AZ seriously owned in the locked Facebook thread imo

guys reed dis...

im sick of hearing this he can bat tripe..he can bat and has proven it already..is a hardworker and obviously an honest player!! hopefully this will get sorted out and he can play for us again!

some of the theories on this forum are just utter nonsense!!

Watching GEO NEWS

GEO geting SMS from Haider but not picking up tlf from GEO despite GEO sms him.

Why can i send SMS but not answering tlf from GEO ? I am afraid he is kidnapped.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons for a player to want his passport, so I wouldn't blame team management for him getting hold of his passport. His passport is his responsibilty after all.

However if he was approached by match fixers, why did he not immediately report it to the ICC's anti-corruption unit? Isn't that what players are required to do in all instances?

Something does not sound quite right here. If he's fearing for his safety, why is he telling the media where he is and where he's going? Also, how has he got a visa to visit the UK so quickly? Pakistan citizens can't just turn up and get a UK visa on arrival.

There are lots of unanswered questions. Are we at long last about to find out the whole truth about what's really going on with Pakistan cricket?

EK 209 is not a valid flight number.

Just a question for you, How did Zoni or anyone knew before the match that his inning is going to play an important role in the 4th ODI?

Btw If i am a match fixer Zoni would be the last person i would contact based on his bating abilities.

What were the odds on this WDFT?

the odds of this specific incident (player fleeing just before a match) were very high

but given the form book and the history and the recent allegations the odds of another bookie-related incident was very short imo
