Tips for international flights

Hello everyone, I'm traveling internationally for the first time, from Delhi to Manchester via London Heathrow.

Can frequent air travellers of pp help me with some doubts.

1. Do I need a transit visa?

2. How to catch a connecting flight?

3. Can I get my boarding pass for the flight to Manchester from Delhi or will I only get them from Heathrow?

4. Will have to repeat the entire process (check in , baggage tag etc) for my flight to Manchester?

1. Do I need a transit visa?

No you don't need a transit visa because a) you are in the same country and b) you only need a transit visa if you want to leave the airport of a country whose visa you do not have.

2. How to catch a connecting flight?

Once you land in Heathrow you can check on your flight itinerary the number of the connecting flight, the gates will be displayed on many screens all over the airport. Or you could just ask the help desk.

3. Can I get my boarding pass for the flight to Manchester from Delhi or will I only get them from Heathrow?

The boarding pass you will get from the place of departure after you check in your luggage, one part of your pass will be taken by before you board the plane and the other part you keep as proof, plus it shows where you are seated etc.

4. Will have to repeat the entire process (check in , baggage tag etc) for my flight to Manchester?

Depends on your itinerary, if you're using two different airline, going to two different countries etc, but since its Heathrow to Manchester, I think you will receive your luggage in Manchester. Better confirm at check in in Delhe regarding the details though.

2. When you land at Heathrow you follow the sign for flight connections which will take you on route to the next gate.

3. You should get all boarding passes when you departure from Dehli.

4.No your bags will automatically be placed on the next plane to Machester.

PIA is the only airline I have ever flown with that allowed 30kg each for two bags. Qatar and the rest of the Middle Eastern ones allow 23kg....

I'm assuming the flight from Delhi to Manchester will be anywhere from 8 to 11 hours, so its a fairly long flight. Seeing as other posters have answered your doubts, i'll just chime in with some tips.

-Take a neck pillow with you on the plane so that your neck doesn't start cramping.

-Don't take too many liquids as some countries have strict laws and rules regarding not allowing any fluids
such as water or juices onto the planes as they can carry potential microbes and germs. I don't know if UK is strict regarding this but Australia certianly is.

-Wear comfortable clothing for your journey. The most painful thing ever is to wear thick rigid jeans on a 14 hour flight from Dubai to Sydney

-Arrive at the airport relatively early (obviously)

-Always weigh your luggage and hand-carry bags to avoid overpacking and paying hefty premiums to send the bags into the plane. Domestic flights are generally more lenient but International flights are more strict with this stuff.
