The final list of players that have made themselves available for the 2018 Hero Caribbean Premier League has been sent to teams ahead of the draft which will take place in London on 1st March.

The number of players that have put their names forward for the draft has increased, as has the number of countries from which the overseas players are from. There has been a 36% increase in player registrations overall and a 50% uplift in overseas players who have shown an interest in playing in Hero CPL in 2018.

A total of 227 overseas players have registered for the draft, an increase from 151 from last year. There are 121 West Indian cricketers that have put their names forward for selection, an increase from 107 from last year.

There are cricketers from 18 countries who will be in the player pool on draft day, with the most coming from Pakistan (53) and Sri Lanka (32). There are also cricketers from England, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Ireland, Canada, USA, Oman, Hong Kong, Scotland, Nepal, UAE and Kenya.

Some of the players that will be available for selection or retention this year will be Brendon McCullum, Chris Lynn, Mohammad Amir, D’Arcy Short, Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle, Hashim Amla, Shahid Afridi and Usman Khawaja as well as English players Alex Hales and Adil Rashid.

This year the tournament window means that all West Indies national team players will be available for the tournament.

In addition to the players that have registered for the draft, or those that have been retained from last year, teams will also select a player from the ICC Americas region. These players can either be retained from last year or from the USA Cricket squad that has been taken part in the current Super50 competition.

Speaking about the interest from the international and Caribbean cricket community, Pete Russell, COO of the Hero CPL, said: “We are delighted with the response that we have had to the Hero CPL draft this year. Every year we have seen an increase in the standard of players who want to be part of the Biggest Party in Sport, and 2018 is no different.”

The biggest overseas names in the CPL do not even play IPL. I think maybe McCullum and Gayle do. Not sure though.

Lol ,give me a single international player name except Pakistan who don't put his name on IPL draft list , and m give u a lot of world class player who only play IPL.

Imad Wasim picked by Jamaica Tallawahs for $110,000.

So Malik wasn't retained by Barbados. But DAMN Shahid Afridi was picked as a marquee player. He hasn't played in the tournament for some time.

Junaid Khan to Barbados Tridents for $30,000.

Shadab Khan retained by Trinbago Knight Riders for $30,000.

then how come Ross Taylor, Raees, Imad, Shadab, Juanid and Shoaib Mail playing? won't they play against Aus/NZ?

If Im not wrong Pakistan plays test series in Sep-Oct and those players aren’t part of Test squad. It seems Hasan and Fakhar would be featuring in test squad this fall.

I think they also play a LOI series with Aus around the same time.. Also Fakhar is not in the test team and Hassan Ali is not a regular in test team

Looks like this is the final list.

  • Sohail Tanvir to Guyana Amazon Warriors - $160,000
  • Shoaib Malik to Guyana Amazon Warriors - $130,000
  • Shahid Afridi to Jamaica Tallawahs - $130,000
  • Imad Wasim to Jamaica Tallawahs - $110,000
  • Rumman Raees to St. Lucia Stars - $70,000
  • Hussain Talat to St. Lucia Stars - $30,000
  • Wahab Riaz to Barbados Tridents - $40,000
  • Junaid Khan to Barbados Tridents - $30,000

But my point is whether Hasan Ali, Mohd. Amir, and Fakhar Zaman were part of draft or not. If they were in draft and not picked then its quite stupid from CPL franchises, but if they weren’t part of draft then maybe PCB selectors and Mikey Arthur are planning on bringing Fakhar and Hasan into test side. Pakistan’s next upcoming test series against England will provide more answers as to who will feature in test squad.

Dang, Shadab is really a cheap buy for SRK’s KnightRiders. Shadab should’ve fetched at least $110K if not higher.

They play LOI next March or is it Test series in next March? Australian tour to UAE have been split into two phase, Test and LOIs.

Australia will play LOI this year and test next year. NZ will play Test and LOI this year..

Economically CPL is very cheap. I mean they buy players for as little as 7500 USD.

Their overall team budget is not even 1 million USD.

Junaid can be argued based on his form and fitness, but Shadab is indeed a steal, he is not only very good leggie but pretty reliable batsman and solid fielder. A true allrounder

If Pakistan players were available for IPL someone like Shadab would go for 600K-1.2 million USD.

Then could easily say no to this joke.

Rashid Khan was bought for 1.4 million USD. That's the budget of 2 CPL teams.

Rashid is a proven performer, both in IPL and BBL. he fully deserves what he is getting.. Shadab has done well against NZ but other teams he did well against, both SL and WI, were trash teams. He hasn't done much in this PSL although i have not watched live.. So someone can confirm

Shadab did pretty good in the couple of games he got in the BBL.

sure, and I do think he has a real good potential. He is not as good a spinner as Rashid Khan but a good package. But the actual performance over two separate leagues in totally different setups has to count more than the potential. Also, don't forget Rashid is a very handy hitter compared to Shadab who is more of a reliable batter. So overall Rahsid will get good price wherever he goes.. I think he is going to play in England too.

Pakistan players will always be a risky investment for IPL owners as things changes drastically overnight.

I think in long run Shadab will have better career as he will be playing up against top teams in international arena whereas Rashid have been mostly been facing Windies/BD/Zimbos in international matches. The only time he gets to face world’s best is in IPL. But other than that he will not get to face Kohlis or Devilliers regularly and that would not push him to improve further.

Yeah that possibility is there. Rashid is still young, may be his real age is around 24 or 25.. he has more than a decade left in his career. Afg will be a good side before his career winds down. I expect the next test championship (not the one starting in 2019) to include AFG.. lets see. We will see how he bowls in test match against India in June.. AFG will also mostly quality for 2023 world cup if not for 2019 one...

No doubt Afg would be a better team in ten years from now but still the overall economic conditions of Afg would not change much. Afg is not safe country for visitors and I dont see them playing cricket in Afg for another 10 years at least. Secondly, Afg is still not very marketable team, thus would not get invited to countries like England/Australia/SA/India on consistent basis. Even BD are not getting invites to Aus/Eng for next FTP, so its even more difficult for AFG. Like I said, they would be mostly facing Zimbos/BD/UAE on consistent basis. Now Worldcup being 10 teams only, there is a chances Afg might not even make it. Lastly, their progress in U19 WC should be taken with pinch of salt as some of their players seem in mid 20s.

Coming to Rashid Khan, he will always be a good bowler in LoIs but his career would not progress as that of Shadab. Id have backed Rashid to outdo Shadab if he was from Pakistan or India but not with Afg.

He would have gotten a 200-400k "prove it" contract.

I wonder if this means Pakistan will not be at the Asia Cup.

Same thing people said in the Rashid vs Shadab thread 1-2 years ago. Many claimed Rashid will be forgotten and etc being from an associate team etc.

Now Rashid is nr.1 in ODI and T20. Hot in all leagues and starting his test career vs India as well.

So let's see. how things goes next 1-2 years.

The PCB should do more to manage the workloads of these players imo. For example, is it really worth risking Junaid Khan, a man who is important to your World Cup preparations next year, for a measly 30k USD?

I hope to see Mohammad Amir play a part for Essex this year. But still very surprised that Hasan wasn't retained. Also no Fakhar is very peculiar as well.

The Hero Caribbean Premier League Finals will be hosted by Trinidad & Tobago for the next three years. Hero CPL has signed a staging agreement with the government of Trinidad and Tobago that will see the final two matches of the tournament take place in the country between 2018 and 2020.

The semi-final and final represent the culmination of the Biggest Party in Sport and these games will make a massive impact on the Trinidad & Tobago economy.

Trinidad & Tobago will now host four consecutive finals after the hugely successful matches played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy (BCLA) which saw a sellout crowd for the last year’s final as home team, Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR), emerged victorious.

Last year the Hero CPL generated revenue for Trinidad & Tobago of US$23million and Damien O’Donohoe, CEO of Hero CPL, said he is delighted to be continuing making an impact on the country’s economy.

“Hero CPL continues to grow year on year and we are delighted with the support that we have had from the government of Trinidad & Tobago. It is clear that hosting Hero CPL games is a huge positive for the countries involved and this multi-year deal means we can plan our finals to be even bigger and better than before. On behalf of Hero CPL I would like to express my thanks to Prime Minister, Keith Rowley, Minister of Sport, Darryl Smith and also Brian Lara for pulling this deal together.”

Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs for Trinidad & Tobago, The Hon. Darryl Smith stated: “The Government of Trinidad and Tobago is pleased to continue on our Sports Tourism drive with the hosting the CPL semi-final and final for the next 3 years at the brand new Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Last year was the best finals ever and to top it all off TKR Riders won at home at the BLCA. We hope that TKR can do it again in Trinidad and Tobago. We have built a great relationship with CPL and cricket fans across the world can expect a great product of high level excitement and entertainment as they did in 2017.”

WOW. Great news for Hussain Talat, a great way for him to build his repertoire in cricket. If he performs well in the tournament then he may be a fixture in Pakistan ODI line-up

Does Tanvir still play cricket? Remarkable he fetched $160k..
And Trinbago got the deal of a life time, $30k for Shadab..shows how unaware and unintelligent the other bidders were...

Tanvir is CPL GOAT

Sad that Hasan Ali won't be playing in it. He said in an interview recently that PCB don't want to give the fast bowlers NOCs for these leagues because of fitness concerns

Still has the best bowling figures by a bowler in the number one league :srt

The only league he doesn't perform in is the PSL. Just goes to show that the GOATs in other leagues are nobodies in PSL.

PSL products are ruling the cricket world. England have yet to thank us for producing a batsman who could play in Australia. Imagine the carnage if Malan bhai didn't play the Ashes :mv

Fakhar Zaman not playing makes me wonder if he's in negotiation with a county team...Aren't players who play all 3 formats not allowed to play any leagues?

Really WOW. Why is that?

We spoke to his manager and he said that the decision was taken "Because he’s now [playing] in all formats for Pakistan. The kid would be completely burnt out if he squeezes more cricket into the only small break he will get. They have a crazy schedule between now and end of World Cup as you know. T20 comps can wait til next year"

Excellent call by all concerned.

The St Lucia Stars have announced that Mark Chapman of New Zealand and Mohammad Sami of Pakistan will be joining their squad for the 2018 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL). This year’s tournament will run from 8 August to 16 September.

Chapman will replace Hussain Talat in the Stars squad after he became unavailable for this year’s Hero CPL. Chapman made his international debut for his native Hong Kong in 2015 but he has subsequently moved to New Zealand and has also represented them at international level against England this winter.

Mohammad Sami will replace Rumman Raees who is also no longer available. Sami is one of the most experienced quick bowlers on the T20 circuit and has previous experience at Hero CPL having played for the Jamaica Tallawahs in 2017. Sami has played for Pakistan in 87 ODIs and 13 T20 Internationals and has claimed 169 wickets in his T20 career.

Speaking about the arrivals of these new squad members, Mohammad Khan, General Manager of the St Lucia Stars said: “The Stars welcome the additions of both Mohammad Sami and Mark Chapman. Sami is one of the best fast bowlers in T20 Cricket. He remains fit, fast, and hungry. We feel his presence will make an already strong attack even stronger.

“Mark is a dynamic young batsman. He is a player of considerable quality and a high cricket IQ. He will add more firepower to a middle order that includes Lendl Simmons, Kieron Pollard, and Daren Sammy.

“We are disappointed that Hussain Talat and Rumman Raees couldn't participate this season. We wish Rumman a speedy recovery from his injury and wish Hussain continued success as he develops into one of Pakistan's top players.”

Wait, why is Talat not available?

Pakistan aren't playing any cricket in August and the only cricket Pakistan play in September is Asia Cup. Unless they are planning on inducting Talat into the ODI team, this seems an odd decision.

Which would suggest he is at least in their plans for ODIs; in which case, good.

But if they don't select him for Asia Cup, not issuing an NOC would seem very odd.

Only time will tell.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors have appointed Shoaib Malik as their captain for the 2018 Hero Caribbean Premier League which runs from 8 August to 16 September 2018.

Malik, a veteran of 103 T20 internationals and 264 ODIs, has had previous captaincy experience as leader of his national team, Pakistan, and at the Pakistan Super League with Multan Sultans.

Speaking of his appointment, Shoaib expressed his excitement about the challenge ahead. “Over the last few seasons I really enjoyed my time with the Hero CPL as a player with the Barbados Tridents and now I look forward with great pride to captain the Guyana Amazon Warriors in this year’s tournament. The Amazon Warriors have really done well over the years and I hope that being part of a really impressive team means we will challenging for the title at the end of the season.”

Head Coach of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Johan Botha said he is excited about the opportunity to work with Shoaib. Botha added: “It’s great to have the experience of Shoaib leading us this year. He is a very calm leader which will be great in pressure situations on the field. I worked with him earlier this year in the Pakistan Super League so we come into the CPL and the Guyana Amazon Warriors team with a good working relationship and understanding of each other.”

Don't get how Malik has been given an NOC but Hussain Talat hasn't? Makes no sense.

May be PCB wants Hussain Talat to work on few technical issues at that time

Hussain Talat not given NOC is odd. It would do him well participating in CPL. Maybe PCB has other plans for him.

Steve Smith will link up with Barbados Tridents for the Caribbean Premier League 2018, it was announced on Wednesday, 25 July.

Smith replaces the Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who is no longer available for selection.

Robin Singh, the Barbados coach, is ecstatic that someone of the stature of Smith is available to soften Shakib’s loss. “It is a huge blow to lose Shakib for the tournament but in Steve Smith we have a truly world-class replacement who can help to bring power to our batting line-up,” said Singh, the former India all-rounder.

“As a man who has played cricket at the highest level all over the world we are very confident that Smith will be a big success with the Tridents.”

Steve Smith played six matches for Toronto Nationals in the Global Canada T20 league

This will be the latest step in Smith’s return to cricket, since being suspended by Cricket Australia (CA) from its national and domestic tournaments for his role in the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town in March.

Smith played six matches for Toronto Nationals in the Global Canada T20 league in July, scoring 167 runs at 33.40 and a strike rate of 119.28.

David Warner, also banned by CA over the same incident in South Africa, took part in the event in Canada as well, playing eight matches for Winnipeg Hawks. Warner has signed up St Lucia Stars in the upcoming edition of the CPL.

The tournament will get underway on 8 August, with Barbados beginning their campaign against Guyana Amazon Warriors on 11 August. The tournament will go on till 16 September.

Probably will have a camp before the asia cup, with all the probables getting a chance to prove themselves, Talat should be there as well as Ruman

looking forward to see performances of young w.indies players such as oshane Thomas odean smith shermane Rutherford obed McCoy and others. W.indies has got some young raw talent these guys need to be groomed properly.Always an exciting tournament to watch.

Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Irfan has been called up by the Barbados Tridents for the upcoming Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL), which runs from August 8 to September 16. The 36-year-old will replace fellow left-armer Junaid Khan, who has become unavailable.

Irfan has played just four Tests but has excelled in the white-ball format, where he has taken 83 wickets in 60 One-Day Internationals and 15 wickets in 20 T20 Internationals. Overall in T20s Irfan has claimed 94 wickets in 82 appearances.

“It is a disappointment not to have Junaid available but the experience of another left-arm quick like Mohammed Irfan will be an asset to the our campaign,” said Tridents head coach Robin Singh. “He is no stranger to international cricket and this know-how, coupled with his unique ability with the ball, means he will be a key part of the Tridents attack and a handful for opposing batsmen.”

Tridents open their season against Guyana Amazon Warriors on August 12 in Providence before taking on St Lucia Stars on August 17 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.

The Jason Holder-led side will then clash with Jamaica Tallawahs at the Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, United States before hosting five matches at the historic Kensington Oval in Barbados between August 25 and September 2.

Tridents close out their campaign with fixtures against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on September 4 at Warner Park in St Kitts, and against Trinbago Knight Riders on September 7 at Queen’s Park Oval.
