All four teams in Group E started the evening level on points and with a chance of progression.

But an inferior goal difference meant Ukraine knew their fate also depended on the outcome of Slovakia's tie with Romania, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

They were unable to make an impact in Stuttgart - limiting Belgium to few chances but lacking a consistent attacking threat of their own until late on.

Leicester City's Wout Faes was a standout performer in Belgium's defence, making two crucial blocks late on to stop Artem Dovbyk testing goalkeeper Koen Casteels.

Roman Yaremchuk was also a sporadic outlet for Ukraine in the absence of injured Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk, while Ruslan Malinovskyi almost curled a corner past Casteels and inside the near post.

Meanwhile, Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne provided a sprinkling of much-needed quality as he curled a free-kick just wide in the first half.

Belgium, though, came closest to scoring when Romelu Lukaku scuffed a shot straight at goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin from close range, before substitute Yannick Carrasco tested Trubin too.

In the end, Domenico Tedesco's side progressed having lost one, drawn one and won one of their three group matches. But they will need to improve with World Cup finalists France up next in the last 16.

The result was a disappointing blow to Ukraine, who became the first team to win as many as four points yet finish bottom of their group at the Euros.

Romania finished top of Group E as they and Slovakia reached the last 16 at Euro 2024 with an entertaining draw in Frankfurt.

Ondrej Duda gave Slovakia a 24th-minute lead when got in behind the Romanian defence to power in a header from Juraj Kucka's pinpoint cross.

Both sides showed plenty of attacking intent, and Romania equalised before half-time as Razvan Marin fired a ferocious penalty into the top corner after David Hancko fouled Ianis Hagi in the box.

They finished top, with Belgium second in the group after a draw with Ukraine, who were eliminated.

Slovakia advance as one of the best third-placed sides and could face for England in the last 16.

Confirmation of their opponents will come after the final Group F fixtures which take place this evening (20:00 BST).

Cenk Tosun scored a stoppage-time winner as Turkey beat the Czech Republic in their final group game to secure a last-16 tie against Austria.

The Czechs needed to win Wednesday's final group game to avoid being eliminated, and they pushed for victory in the tense closing stages.

But they left gaps in defence and former Everton striker Tosun cut inside and drove a shot into the back of the net.

The Czech Republic's hopes of getting a victory were not helped when they had Antonin Barak sent off midway through the first half for up a second yellow card after catching Arda Guler with his studs up.

Initially, Turkey struggled to break down their opponents and finished the first half without a shot on target, but their passionate fans were sent wild six minutes after the break when captain Hakan Calhanoglu drove into the bottom corner.

That meant the Czech Republic needed to score twice, and they got back level when West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek volleyed in from six yards.

The game was wide open after that as both sides pushed for victory, and it was Turkey who got it in the 94th minute to seal their progress.

Georgia made history and reached their first major tournament knockout stage with victory over Portugal at Euro 2024.

Portugal had already won the group, but were shocked in their final group stage game before the clock struck two minutes as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia drilled a low shot past Diogo Costa.

That goal came as Georgia hit Portugal on the break after overturning possession and set the tone for how much of the rest of the night would play out.

The underdogs did not require dominance and made their chances count as Georges Mikautadze delivered from the spot when they were handed a second-half penalty to further propel Georgia to their shock success.

Georgia were content with letting Portugal control possession - as they were steely in defence and closing down space to limit Portugal's chances - and waited for the opportunity to threaten on the counter.

Few opportunities came Georgia's way, but few of any real danger were handed to Portugal; the underdogs held their shape to perfection and caused the Group F winners to become increasingly frustrated.

Cristiano Ronaldo lacked the service to make the difference in the final third, Portugal's midfielders struggled to pass the ball in a way that did anything more than merely boost their possession statistics, and Georgia finished their group stage in fine fashion.

By beating Portugal, Georgia completed the biggest Euros upset in history, based on Fifa rankings, and created a night to remember in their debut major tournament. They will now play Spain in the last 16, while Portugal take on Slovenia.

Netherlands, Georgia, Slovakia and Slovenia qualified for RO16 as best third-placed teams.

England families hit by beer cups 'from all angles'

Defender Ezri Konsa says the families and friends of England players were hit by beer cups thrown "from all angles" after their goalless draw with Slovenia.

A couple of plastic cups were aimed in the direction of boss Gareth Southgate as he applauded them from the pitch after the Euro 2024 Group C stalemate on Tuesday.

According to Aston Villa's Konsa more were hurled around the stands in Cologne at full-time, with the section seating the players' friends and families affected.

Konsa said the players knew Southgate had been targeted but have "not spoken about it as players" or raised it with him.

It has been reported, external that the players' partners and friends were neither recognised nor deliberately targeted by those who threw the cups.

"We were aware of it because I think some of our family members got hit with a few drinks," he said.

"We check on them. There’s kids in the stands with family so we always have to check on them, reassure them and ask if they’re all right."

England topped Group C and will face Slovakia in the last 16 on Sunday.

Konsa said "in football stuff like that happens", when pressed further on the reaction of fans.

He added: "My brother was hit, a few others. I spoke to him after, I asked him and how he was and he said he was fine.

"It was to the right [of the stadium], it wasn’t directly behind the goal, but it was coming from all angles. We try not to think about it too much so we move on."

Slovakia captain Milan Skriniar says they can beat England because they work as a team and not as individuals

England play Slovakia, who advanced as one of the best third-placed sides, in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday for a place in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals.

And Skriniar says his side have an opportunity to cause a major upset as they do not depend on star players, like the Three Lions.

"They [England] rely on individual quality and they know that they have players who can decide matches for them," the Paris St-Germain defender said.

"That is why I think we can handle them through teamwork."

Skriniar, 29, added that Gareth Southgate's side go into the match under more presssure than Slovakia.

"Even in their first match [against Serbia], they went in with the fact that they are England, and they have to manage things in terms of results," he said.

"The media and fans have been critical after their matches, so they will be under much more pressure than us. It can work in our favour."

Slovakia finished third in Group E on four points, the first time in Euros history that all four teams within a group have finished on the same points.

Previously, they were knocked out of the last 16 by Germany in 2016, and then failed to make it out of the group at Euro 2020 when England finished as runners-up to Italy.

Nothing wrong with England NT players, only their coach is clueless.

Kobbie Mainoo has put himself in serious contention to make his first competitive England start against Slovakia on Sunday, talkSPORT understands

Gareth Southgate is ready to call upon the 19-year-old to replace Conor Gallagher as Declan Rice's midfielder partner after an impressive second half cameo in Tuesday's 0-0 draw with Slovenia.

If Mainoo does start it will be England's third different midfield combination in their four Euro 2024 games.

The Manchester United starlet only made his England debut after coming on to replace Gallagher in the 1-0 friendly defeat to Brazil in March.

Mainoo was a bright spark in what was a dismal goalless draw against Slovenia as England struggled to deal with their opponents' low block and create many clear-cut chances.

However, Mainoo was in the thick of one of the best opportunities at the end of the match as he beautifully teed up fellow substitute Cole Palmer for a chance, but the Chelsea star was unable to beat Jan Oblak with a low drive.

Everyone thought defence was the problem for England this euros, but in reality it turned out the opposite and people mostly blame the players for underperforming but its all about getting the balance and tactics right. Few things England can change and we can actually see them performing to their potential.

1) if Bellingham is brought back in a deeper role with Rice which he has played in a lot in his career specially at dortmund, this will allow Foden to play at number 10 and England to have a proper left winger in Anthony Gordan operating through the left. The 5 minutes Gordan played were probably the only time we could see england threatening the opposition from the left hand side. The problem with kobie Mainoo playing with Rice is that the problem with the balance upfront will remain as i don't think Southgate is brave enough to bench either of Bellingham or Foden, but if he is then good enough.

2) Saka is great and was probably the only player helping the purpose of trent in the team by making the in behind runs, but he can be rested for this game for Palmer, for the 20 minutes he played in the third game it looked like he could make the difference all by himself every time he got the ball. England needs to utilise this crazy form that Palmer has right now.

Real Madrid and Juventus players have scored the most goals across all European Championships as they tie first with 40 combined goals. Ronaldo has scored at the Euros as a Madrid and Juventus player while Michel Platini - the second top scorer in Euros history - famously scored nine goals as France won Euro 1984 while a Juventus player.

Bayern Munich ranks third with players signed to the German giants scoring 37 goals, including Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski. Barcelona ranks fourth with David Villa, Antoine Griezmann and Jordi Alba amongst the scorers. Three English clubs feature next in Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United - players from all three of those clubs have scored during Euro 2024. Overall in the top ten, three English, three Italian, two German and two Spanish clubs feature.

So we are back from a long break guys

ITALY will take on Switzerland tonight at 9 PM PST

Germany will take on Denmark tonight at 12 AM PST

When looking at all players to have taken 10 or more penalties since the conclusion of the last Euros three years ago, four players have a 100% record from the spot. Leading the way in first place due to taking more penalties with 14 successful strikes is Austria's Marco Grüll. He actually wasn't on the pitch when Austria got their only penalty of Euro 2024 so far, with Marko Arnautovic dispatching the spot-kick against Poland. In second place is Germany's Niclas Füllkrug who has 13 from 13 since the last Euros, and will surely be substituted on for potential shootouts. Then joint third with 11 successful penalties is England's Cole Palmer and Switzerland's Xherdan Shaqiri.

Jude Bellingham admitted to feeling fatigued and then some during England's uninspiring goalless draw against Slovenia

The Real Madrid superstar said he was 'absolutely dead' in England's final group game on Tuesday night but said the support from the Three Lions fans in the stands got him through it.

The match was Bellingham's 50th in what's been a gruelling season for the 20-year-old with his last two performances seeing him struggle to make the same impact he usually makes on games.

A goalless stalemate with Slovenia in Cologne was the continuation of England's struggles in Germany, where they have also so far drawn 1-1 with Denmark and beat Serbia 1-0 courtesy of a Bellingham header.

Fans booed England off following a dour display against the Danes and followed suit after the Slovenia result, with beer cups thrown in the direction of manager Gareth Southgate, who has since called on any of the fans' ire to be aimed at him rather than his players.

Bellingham, though, has spoken about the positive impact that the fans inside the RheinEnergieStadion had on him and wants to reward them with better performances moving forward.

"I think you definitely draw on them for energy towards the end of games," he said.

"I felt like in the last game, I was absolutely dead but you hear them singing, hear them chanting and you can play at a level that's not our best, it's normal, it can happen.

"But I think the important thing is, when you're wearing this badge and you're representing those fans, is that you don't give up and I think that they're a constant reminder of that.

"I think it's always interesting. I know there's a lot of negativity outside the stadium and the camp but I always feel that when we get into the stadium, it's so different.

"I think it's important that as teammates and as a team, we remember that the ones in the stadium are the ones that are going to give us the energy so don't worry about the ones that aren't there.

"We've obviously got to keep using that energy, using that feeling that we get from them, to be successful in this tournament."

Bellingham insists England will not be writing off their last 16 clash with Slovakia, live on talkSPORT, as an 'easy game'.

Spain, Germany, Portugal, France and Belgium are all on the other side of the draw, meaning England will avoid that quintet until a potential final in Berlin on July 14.

Instead, Southgate's side return to Gelsenkirchen on Sunday evening to face Slovakia, who advanced as one of the best third-placed teams from the group stage.

Victory would see England progress to a quarter-final against either Italy or Switzerland but, for now, Bellingham says the squad will not take the challenge of Slovakia lightly.

"You're always going to have tough games at this point of the tournament," he said on Lions' Den.

"People will obviously look at Slovakia and think it's going to be an easy game, it's definitely not the case. They'll pose a different kind of threat, it's a different kind of team to break down.

"Sometimes when you play the nations that come at you a bit more, it's more open. It'll be an interesting game, it's one that we're confident we have enough in the room to win.

"I know the performances haven't been as good as they can be in the first three games but it's a great opportunity for us to get back to the level we need to be at."

Romania goalkeeper Nita hopes to avoid penalties against Netherlands

Romania goalkeeper Florin Nita has backed his side to beat Netherlands inside 90 minutes in their European Championship last-16 clash in Munich on Tuesday and avoid the drama of penalties.

The 36-year-old has been impressive in goal for the Romanians, who topped a tight Group E and will make their first appearance in the knockout stages of the Euros for 24 years.

"I'm ready for penalties but I don't want to go there. I want us to win in 90 minutes and I trust the team to do that," Nita told reporters on Saturday.

"It will be a difficult game but if we respect what the coach (Edward Iordanescu) is telling us and make the right decisions, I hope we can get a good result. We must be like a yellow wall, be united. If we do this, we will succeed.

"Netherlands have good players who play in strong championships. This is a force that I don't think we can match but through the strength of the group we can overcome this difference."

Nita, who made his international debut in 2017, has been preferred to the other two goalkeepers in the squad, Stefan Tarnovanu and Horatiu Moldovan, despite the latter starting eight of their 10 qualifiers on their way to the finals.

"The rest of the goalkeepers and I are very good friends," Nita said. "It is to Moldovan's credit that we are at these Euros. We are a team. We have a good relationship, we always encourage each other.

"I didn't know until the last moment that I would play. That mystery keeps us all hooked. I try to enjoy every moment spent here with this family.

"I am very happy that together with this wonderful team we have written history but I hope we don't stop now. I hope that after the match with Netherlands there will be even greater joy."

Nita said he had no thoughts of international retirement no matter happened on Tuesday.

"For me, the national team is the most important thing. I don't want to stop here, I would like to play for even 10 more years. I will take it step-by-step, season-by-season."

Asked about his most emotional moment of the tournament so far, Nita was clear.

"At the end of every match when I hug my wife and my children tell me they are proud of me and that they love me."

🚨🚨BREAKING: Kieran Trippier is a doubt to start in England's Round of 16 game on Sunday, after the defender missed England training again today, Sky Sports News has been told.

Switzerland 2-0 Italy - MATCH REPORT

Holders Italy made a limp exit from Euro 2024 as a sparkling display from Switzerland helped them set up a potential quarter-final meeting with England.

The Swiss dominated from the start and took a deserved lead when the impressive Ruben Vargas crossed for Remo Freuler, who took a touch before hammering a low shot past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Vargas, who plays his club football in Germany for Augsburg, made it 2-0 just 27 seconds into the second half when he picked up Michel Aebischer’s pass near the left-hand corner of the Italy area and expertly bent the ball into the far top corner of the net.

Italy did not manage a shot on target until the 73rd minute and their best effort before then came when Switzerland defender Fabian Schar headed Nicolo Fagioli’s cross against his own post, with Yann Sommer stranded.

Although Gianluca Scamacca also hit the woodwork from close range before the end, the Azzurri never seriously threatened a fightback and their forgettable campaign in Germany simply fizzled out.

While they head home, Switzerland, roared on in Berlin by their boisterous and frequently bouncing supporters, head for Dusseldorf where they will play the winners of England’s tie with Slovakia.

Yeah Germany must score , Danes can nick this , but Rasmas isn’t doing much better up front too.

Havertz might score but Germany used do have serious goal scorers . Now looking for goals from midfielders.

Wirtz should come on & play further up
