UK Election results 2019: Boris Johnson returns to power with big majority [Post#486]

It probably wouldn't have changed the end result but Corbyn blundered massively by not being decisive over Brexit and hence has lost all the Labour Leave voting constituencies.

Bleak times ahead with the slimy Tories coming into power with a majority for another five years.

Elections are won from the centre but Corbyn took Labour back to the Michael Foote era. Labour need Gordon Brown back to lead otherwise will be out until 2030s.

This country is absolutely dusted if this poll is anywhere close to being right.

Exit polls have been wrong, most famously during the night of the EU referendum.

Having said that, if this is true than Britain and its people are in a far darker place than even I imagined. A Conservative majority was always the favoured outcome...a majority of this nature reflects a darkness within the country, an intellectual ineptitude to do the right thing, to be so easily brainwashed and swayed by a one-note, billionaire run media.

I may not stay in his country for too long but there are others, some young, who may want to start a family but they will face a public service system under immense attack and soon, when they have children, they will be pulling madly at their pockets looking for money for rent, for health insurance and not knowing where to find it.

If the people are willing to be blinded by hate and ignorance so be it.

I can only imagine that you are too young to remember or weren’t even born during the 70’s.

Way to much negativity about the UK.
It’s one of the very best places to live in the world. The NHS has been stressed in the past and will so again in the future but it remains an excellent service.

What an ignorant comment. Most of my family including me, my spouse, including siblings, work in the NHS are doctors and are absolutely exhausted day in and day out at the sh1t show its become for doctors. From the ridiculous 12-14 hr days with absolutely horrific pay to absolutely no support for doctors at all.

One of the reasons its goodbye England to me in a couple of years.

I ended up watching a documentary called Britain's Ultra Nationalists on Amazon Prime tv tonight. If you see it you will see that Britain is in a much darker place than we thought. The interviewer was a passive Indian looking guy called Aran Tori and he was basically allowing the white supremacists an open field. By the end of it even the Jews long term future didn't look safe. That said, if the wet blanket of a presenter had even asked a few hard questions the programme would have looked a lot different.

Not enough negayivity about the UK. Your position of privilege doesn’t change that

Well that’s dandy
My daughter is studying medicine, my uncle is in the nhs as are several of my friends..

Stop being disrespectful

^^^
I would add that several friends all working for the NHS voted conservative.

You people have absolutely no idea what NHS is or what the struggles are for doctors. Try living in London on £2100 a month with your family with 12 hr days and on £10 an hr and only one 30 minute break. Yeah try that on your 9-5 job pal. Then come and spout about NHS. You have no idea how hard it is for patients too with insane waiting lines and what pressures are on doctors after the idiotic Tories keep making it worse. how afraid we are of making mistakes despite being exhausted and having no support because there is noone to hire. No shortage that has been addressed. Nothing. Its an honor working as doctors. In UK its become a curse.

You might fool others, but you won't fool me when it comes to talking about NHS pal. Your leaders have gutted it. Ruined it. Instead of their slogans of 'we will do this or that', it should have been 'what we HAVE done' since they have been in power for a decade now.

Disrespect? Its people like you who spout on about the NHS and have no idea what a nightmare it is now.

Indeed. It’s depressing to know that there are Muslims out there who voted for a known and open Islamophobe.

Result was to be expected given that many Labour voters were going to vote for Brexit (Tories) & many Labour members and past MPs were openly anti-Corbyn.

Absolutely shameful. I am not religious, as many know here, but its a disgrace to vote an open racist who would see hijabis like my mother as letterboxes.

**** of the earth Tories are.

This is the sad state of the world. Right wing racists are voted everywhere. And pacifists are hated.

Sad as it is this is very true. My family half the year spends a lot of time in Pakistan, hilarious how Pakistan's political situation is on the up compared to the sh1t show in UK :))

Surely that’s not right? Roughly equates to 30k a year. Doctors are on much more than that even in the Midlands.

Well at least the DUP's five minutes of fame are over.

Here comes the border in the Irish Sea and an economic United Ireland.

Don't forget pharmacists. I guess it's another five years of begging for crumbs from the Government for our profession.

Junior doctors start with basic £23-27,000. With 1A banding its about £33,000. After tax and pension deduction its barely £2100. So started as a trust Grade FY1 and it started wit £23,000 basic and with banding it was upto £33,000. After tax it is £2130. Which is nothing for sh1t long days , no breaks and unbelievable pressure.

After you start specialisation it increases to around £45,000. Which can last 3-7 years. The only money is GP as locums.

Its sad that the entirety of my 20s will have been spent with a Tory government - especially ones as bad as these; depressing.

Cpt. Rishwat I've come round to your theory.

Let the right wing leaders have their day in the sun. Their policies (Hard Brexit, NHS underfunding, Trumponomics, environmental destruction) need to be tested to destruction.

Only then do people realise the consequences of their vote.

Don't worry, these numbskulls will still vote Tory. We see all of them around A&E whining about waiting lines and no doctors. And they all voted Tory.

Doubt it, will need approval from the British Govt. for a second referendum which it won't get.

SNP have been predicted to get 55 out of the 59 seats in Scotland.

A second referendum will be nearly guaranteed if this turns out to be true

At this point I don’t think even this would change anything

It's not a given as new legislation will need to pass before it can happen which will put Sturgeon on a collision course with Boris Johnson.

The election in Scotland was more of a furious response to the slime ball Tories and the lack of any viable policies by Labour than it was about independence.

I knew Conservatives were gonna win but not in this fashion.

Disappointing but not surprising as Corbyn was one of the most uninspiring leaders in Labour's history and blundered massively over any clear Brexit policy.

This country deserves this incoming slimy Tory Govt.

Even if you don't fancy Labour, to rejoice in this Tory victory is pathetic to say the least and borderline murder. The Uncle Toms especially deserve to be boiled in oil, low life cowards.

Please grow up.
Everyone has a right to vote for whoever they want.

Calling names is just immature and pathetic.

He received a lot of negative media attention. Boris is a bigger idiot than anyone else tbh. I think voting should be done online and not on paper cause it looks dodgy.

Really fanciful of Labour supporters to cry blue murder now when all along they cheered a leader who sidelined any Centrist voice in his party, hounded out anyone questioning his wisdom and seemed to falter to take a clear stand on any contentious issue. Maybe that’s a leader you believed in, for your own narrow personal gains but it’s heartening to see a majority saw through this bull dropping of a leader

Those who voted Tory are perfectly entitled to rejoice should they win, and likewise any labour supporters.

Just that one should refrain from calling people all sorts of vulgar things and bring religion into everything.

I’ll repeat what I said earlier, IMHO this was a Brexit election and both the Lib Dem’s and Labour shot themselves in the foot.

Is this NHS thing true or just a propaganda? If its true then I can't see why would people for Conservative.

Does anyone else think that with the announcement of the exit polls straight after voting finishes, it somewhat takes away the excitement of not knowing who is going to win?

It's just that feeling of despair and desolation.

The same reason they idiots voted for Trump or Brexit. Why Boris painted lies on the side of a bus and got away with it.

You're a troll so not sure why I'm replying to you but there you go.

I respect you generally. I enjoy your posts on PTI or India. But I'm sorry here I don't. It's nothing personal from me.

Make no mistake - this projected result is a huge and very public judgment on Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership.

I find it a bit amusing that people blame Corbyn for the loss. I mean, do people really WANT Labour to be more like Tories? I see people wanting Labour to come back to the ‘centre’ but what does it even mean? I would genuinely like to understand what exact positions does this ‘centre’ stand for.

Corbyn and Momentum were absolutely pathetic opposition. Again the left commits suicide veering to the ultra fringe, completely chastising/alienating the middle class working class person who then flock to the right wings ** but simple messages of a simpler time versus a scary unknown future.

Useless. Useless. Brexit, two further GE's, Trump etc. Everywhere you look the left are collapsing due to the sheer stupidity of this modern ultra pc fringe.

Least its HILARIOUS seeing the DUP cave. Back to being an irrelevance and Boris free to implement his Brexit deal. Lmao.

Madness how the Tory's get in. I'd still have gone Labour/LD. What reason can people have to continuously vote Conservative after the shambles of a decade?

Summed up perfectly.

Corbyn has the right ideas and is a principled man, however, he is somewhat uninspiring. Labour needs a new leader imo.

Agree with this. What completely killed his credibility on me was his Brexit stance. It was so blatantly obvious he was pro Brexit yet he never had the cojones to just say it, opting instead for a worthless flip flop of middle ground soundbites which meant labour wasted so many easy chances to be pro remain and properly compete.

Labour has lost a lot of its white working class voters especially in the north and that is due to Brexit.

After 10 years of austerity and the cuts that the Tories have made, this country is a mess and with Brexit I don't think it will get much better.

If you can't beat this hopeless Tory government in an election then you have some serious flaws. Corbyn was not up to the task and will have to step down.

No matter how much people blame Corbyn for this loss, the British media and the elite will find a way to demonise any Labour leader fighting for social justice in the future. This election just happened to be the blueprint for killing any future progressive politics in Britain.

Media is hopeless. Even the BBC has lost any sort of credibility.

Looks like Labour's policy of a second referendum on the EU has backfired royally!

One thing is for certain, Remain movement is dead.

Labour became more like the Tories under Blair and won three general elections on the bounce, so yes.

Elections are decided from the centre. Corbyn is poison to centre voters and they switched to Tory to keep him out.

Donal Cozzie the Alliance take North Down off the DUP!

In England and Wales. Not in Scotland. The Union will split now. The Scots won’t let the English take them out of the EU.

I wonder if Corbyn or Swinson will resign by 12:00 mid-day?

I doubt Indyref2 will happen, atleast not another 5 years.

But even in this disappointing times I still can’t stop laughing at the performance of Brexit party.

They have torn lumps out of Labour in the North east and allowed the Tories to make gains. Mission accomplished for BXP.

Swinson might not be an MP by then!
Good! I can't stand the woman.
Disregards completely a democratic referendum which was authorised by the commons in parliament and has the gall to call herself a liberal DEMOCRAT!
Don't even get me started on her to vote 9 times in favour of the bedroom tax.😈
A truly horrid woman!

Corbyn had the whole youth behind him yet he loses pretty badly. It just shows that white middle aged people dominate this country!

Its a shame about Corbyn, a man who has always been anti europe but for the sake of his party took a neutral line on brexit, which effectively cost him the premiership.
Make no mistake, outside of london or the M25 to be more exact, boris has very little support, he has only won because he is the only one listening to the british public and not living in the westminister bubble, and promised to get brexit done.
I am a brexiteer, but i could never vote for boris or the tories!
Corbyn may have lost but for me he brought back my pride in being labour after that evil hideous man tony blair.
It was not meant to be Mr. Corbyn but i personally salute your integrity and your hummanity, God bless!

Godspeed Johnson godspeed. Happy Independence to UK. Freedom from EU, hopefully Brexit will finally happen.

Have you read johnsons brexit deal, its worse than mrs may!
Its brexit only in name, dont believe me, then ask nigel farage, the godfather of brexit, who has slammed the deal and says its not brexit.

Can they now just do the brexit once and for all and everyone move along with their lives.

How much British tax payer money has been spent on umpteen elections and referendums to come to the same conclusion?
