An American drone strike killed at least 30 workers on a pine nut farm who were resting after a day’s labour in the fields, Afghan officials have said.

The bombing, intended to hit an Isis hideout in Afghanistan, injured another 40 people on Wednesday night at Wazir Tangi in eastern Nangarhar province, three Afghan officials said.

The US military said it was trying to establish the identities of the people it killed.

“The workers had lit a bonfire and were sitting together when a drone targeted them,” tribal elder Malik Rahat Gul said.

Afghanistan’s defence ministry and a senior US official in Kabul confirmed the bombing had taken place, but did not provide details of casualties.

Colonel Sonny Leggett, a spokesman for US forces in Afghanistan, said: “US forces conducted a drone strike against Da’esh terrorists in Nangarhar.

“We are aware of allegations of the death of non-combatants and are working with local officials to determine the facts.”

Some 14,000 US troops remain in Afghanistan nearly two decades after the 2001 war began, training Afghan security forces and launching counter-insurgency raids against Isis and the Taliban.

Haidar Khan, who owns the pine nut fields, said about 150 workers were there for harvesting and added that some were still missing as well as those confirmed as dead and injured.

Attaullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the provincial governor of Nangarhar, said at least nine bodies had been collected from the site.

The American military estimates there are about 2,000 Isis fighters in Afghanistan, but their true numbers are difficult to calculate because they frequently change allegiances.

Its a fact US and invading forces have killed more innocent people than any so called 'terrorist' groups in Aghanistan. To the Yanks a brown life means nothing which is why they wont even admit to this.

The vast majority of Afghan people want them out, dead or alive. And I agree with them.

Afghanistan war: Deadly Taliban attack 'destroys' hospital

Twenty people have died after a truck packed with explosives was detonated by Taliban militants outside a hospital in southern Afghanistan.

Many of the victims in the attack in Qalat city were doctors and patients, according to local media reports.

Later, officials said another 16 people, many of them civilians, had been killed in a US air strike aimed at Islamic State militants in the east.

Last month, at least 473 civilians were killed in the conflict, the BBC found.

Civilians made up a fifth of all known casualties during the month of August, our research revealed.

What happened in the hospital bombing?

A senior defence ministry official in the capital told Reuters news agency the "huge" bomb had been carried by a "mini-truck" before it was detonated near the hospital in Qalat.

It was the main health facility in Zabul province, according to reports. Governor Rahmatullah Yarmal said it had been "destroyed".

The Taliban have said they were targeting government intelligence offices, next door to the hospital.

The final death toll from Thursday morning's attack is still unclear. Zabul's deputy governor said 20 were confirmed dead, with some 90 injured.

People at the scene described seeing women and children pulled from the rubble.

"It was horrific," university student Atif Baloch said, according to news agency AFP.

Ambulances have been ferrying casualties to hospital in the neighbouring province of Kandahar.

US kill 30 farmers, intending to hit an 'ISIS hideout'.

Taliban destroy a hospital, intending to hit a 'govt. office'.

What a disaster. No end to the suffering of the Afghan people.

Clear differences

1.US has technology which is 1000 years ahead of the Afghan resistance. Yet US has killed more civillians.

2. Afghans are fighting those who have invaded them. US is in another peoples land. Afghans have no choice, US does.

Lets not make out they are somehow as bad as each other. One is the Devil and the other a bad child.

In between the Taliban, ISIS and US forces, many innocent afghans are dying.

Don't care. Innocent people are dying. And tons of them.

US kills civilians by mistake.

Taliban kills civilians to stay relevant and prove that they are in charge and not the Afghan government.

Anyone who supports the likes of ISIS and Taliban are just

I never suggested you cared but was only pointing it out for readers.

US kills people on purpose, this is a well known policy. You are just ignorant. Try searching for second strike drone attacks.

Taliban is just the umberella name of the Afghan resistance, just as the Mujahudeen was in the 80s. I dont support the Taliban or ISIS but anyone rights to defend themselves. While you support US state terrorism which has also killed millions around the world. I think only those who are extremists would support the US.

Taliban by attacking hospital is a resistance movement it seems, no wonder people keep supporting US when Taliban are heroes to some.

Do you really want Sharia in Afghanistan? Do you want the people of Afghanistan(women specifically) to suffer the brutality of Sharia?

Supporting the US is just as futile.

Afghan and international forces were responsible for more civilian deaths in the first three months of 2019 than the Taliban and other militants, a new U.N. report said Wednesday.

The U.N. Assistance Mission in Afghanistan reported Wednesday that 581 civilians were killed between Jan. 1 and March 31, with Afghan forces and their allies responsible for 305 of those deaths. The insurgents were responsible for wounding more civilians than the coalition forces, the report said.

Its not my place or yours or the Yanks to tell how people to live. Do I want Hindu extremists in power in India? No but it's not my place but for the Indians to decide.

Leave the Afghans alone and in time they will sort themselves out and live how they want to live, not how you or the Yanks feel they should live.

Do you even know what Sharia is?
Pakistan has sharia
It's not extreme. Our government tries to protect the minorities.
If the people want sharia then it's their choice

Never denied that, but atleast they don’t kill their own people unless you believe in conspiracy.

Conspiracy is one thing. But there is plenty of actual evidence that united states either carried out false flag attacks or seriously considered them as an option.

These are just the ones that were admitted directly or indirectly, or confidential documents that were released. We would be naive to believe these admitted or discovered instances were the only ones.

When it comes to statecraft no nation is inherently good, or just. Everyone has blood on their hands.

Not denying that, but the problem is we refuse to believe our bias, everyone is basically choosing the lesser evil, modern theory what to do.
