Less than a month since Donald Trump’s return to power in the US, Washington has already cracked the whip on India by sending illegal immigrants back through a military aircraft

US-India Ties: Washington is sending back 205 illegal Indian immigrants through a United States Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft, in an unprecedented move. The aircraft took off from the US Air Force base in San Antonio, Texas, and each of the immigrants was checked beforehand by an Indian embassy official, ABP Live has learnt.

According to highly placed sources, amid Trump’s ongoing crackdown on unauthorised immigration, this is the first such flight of Indian nationals who went to the US using illegal means. While Indians have been deported before, this is the first time the US government is using a military aircraft with American military personnel for the exercise.

Cracking the whip on India, the Trump administration also made sure that each and every individual who got on board the aircraft was thoroughly checked not only by the US authorities but also by Indian officials, sources said.
Before this, the US had conducted similar deportation flights for Guatemala, Peru and Honduras, among other countries.

The move comes as a “major embarrassment” to the Indian government as the flight of immigrants is being sent just weeks before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to embark on his first official visit to the US since Trump’s return as President. The issue of Indian immigrants entering the US illegally is going to be high on the agenda of the Trump officials, said another source.

Trump took charge of office on January 2o. Since then, he has not only threatened India with sending back illegal Indian immigrants, but also on coming down heavily on New Delhi on two-way trade by imposing tariffs on Indian merchandise exports.

“The United States is vigorously enforcing its border, tightening immigration laws, and removing illegal migrants. These actions send a clear message: illegal migration is not worth the risk,” said a US Embassy spokesperson in New Delhi.

Some unconfirmed reports suggested that the US is sending the Indian immigrants handcuffed, while some are tied with shackles.

US To Now Take Action On Trade

The US is considered to be one of India’s closest strategic partners.

The Modi government, sources said, is apprehensive of the fact that, during the PM's visit to the US, the Trump administration may seek to demand substantial trade concessions from India even as Trump has labelled India “tariff king”.

In a bid to calm the US, the Modi government cut import tariffs on a slew of items — from electronic products to high-end motorbikes and textiles — in the Union Budget of 2025-26 announced on 1 February.

In their first conversation after Trump became the President, the US asked India to buy more American weaponry.

During Trump’s first tenure, he repeatedly sought to call India out for imposing higher tariffs on Harley Davidson motorbikes. The US has announced imposing steep tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China as well. While he has halted the decision on the first two, with China, the trade war has begun.

Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Finance Secretary, said in an interview earlier this week, “We are signalling that India is not a tariff king… Our message is clear, don’t get into protectionist mode.”

New Delhi, sources said, is also hoping to broach the idea of finalising a trade deal with the US — an unfinished agenda from Trump’s first term.

Told you indians it's just not us muslims the alt right don't like .

This is as per an agreement and understanding between both governments. Actually Bharat has agreed to take back close to 1800 illegals. There will be more deportations. We totally welcome this and support President Trump’s stand in protecting American from illegal immigrations no matter from which country.

Only 200 ? Last week I read it was 18,000 indian illegals being deported ?

There are many illegal Indians in USA. Thousands of them.

As of 2022, more than 700,000 undocumented Indians were living in the United States, the center estimates, making them the third-largest group, behind Mexicans and Salvadorans.

205 is too small of a number. They need to deport more illegals from India.

Return them to number one India. :qdkcheeky

205 is a very low number. Should be thousands more. Hopefully in the future.

Regarding tariffs, there will be an agreement soon. Modi and Trump are meeting next month I believe. It will be sorted out. India will not dare to do anything stupid like Canada tried.

Donald Trump has been extremely careful at not naming our country in a negative manner during his campaign and after getting elected to the White House. We respect that and he has the utmost gratitude from our country for showing maturity in handling matters related to Bharat with diplomatic discussions behind closed doors rather than going on a rhetoric like in case of many other countries for which he’s held no punches.

I know you’re trying to rub it in but you wouldn’t find Bharatiya people trying to shamelessly defend these criminals.

I do think the talk of illegals is usually just a cover for resentment against immigrants in general. From what I've seen even Indian immigrants arouse a lot of resentment among the white folk of America. When they talk of Make America Great Again, they picture themselves not Sreenaths or Vijays.

Indians are one of the most obnoxious migrant groups in North America. The Telgu South Indians in the US and Punjabi North Indians in Canada. Made both countries literal 3rd world hell. Full support for Trump for kicking them out

Telugu immigrants are pretty well educated and bring about a lot in tech, they have their issues but its least among any immigrants.

Yes. We also see that here on PP. Some of them can be quite unpleasant and entitled. :qdkcheeky

I am not a Trump supporter and I disagree with many of his decisions. But, he is doing a good job regarding illegal Indians and other illegals (violent ones particularly).

Most are educated and into high paying jobs and pretty rich compared to ordinary Americans.

Some are idiots. But they do not engage in terrorism or robbery/theft. They are at best nuisance with their public antics.

Some people must be shivering now

18,000 Indians identified as illegal immigrants in US; 205 deported so far

A US military plane has deported 205 Indian migrants as part of President Donald Trump’s strict immigration policies. The C-17 aircraft departed from San Antonio, Texas, early on Tuesday morning, around 3 am IST.

Trump introduced military deportation flights last week under his emergency declaration on immigration.

"For the first time in history, we are locating and loading illegal aliens into military aircraft and flying them back to the places from which they came," Trump told reporters last month.

Following a call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump said he expected India to cooperate. “He (Modi) will do what’s right when it comes to taking back illegal Indian immigrants from America,” he said.

India and the US have identified around 18,000 Indian nationals in the US without legal status. In the 2023-24 period, the US Department of Homeland Security deported over 1,100 Indian nationals. Globally, 495 repatriation flights returned 160,000 individuals to 145 countries, including India.

The number of Indian migrants attempting to enter the US unlawfully has grown. In 2023-24, US officials recorded 90,415 attempts by Indian nationals to enter the country without authorisation, mostly via the northern border. Indians now make up around 3% of all unauthorised crossings, surpassing other Asian groups such as Filipinos, according to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data.

Military & commercial aircraft simply do not have the capacity to hold illegal Indians.

If every illegal Indian was dumped in the sea, the water displacement alone would lead to higher sea levels.

Time to bring back the oil tanker.

In Canada, many Indian migrants have been perceived as obnoxious, whereas in the US, such cases seem less common. This may be linked to immigration policies. Canada has recently admitted individuals who exhibit this behavior, while in the US, most Indian immigrants tend to be highly educated. Those who are undocumented in the U.S. often try to maintain a low profile.

The kind of Indians I see here are more like economic terrorists. Yes they are not invovled in heavy crimes like robbery, bulgary and stuff but they do tend to cheat a lot. It's very common to see Indian lie on their resumes, fake stuff to gain advantage etc. I see plenty of it and I absolutely hate it. There are obviously some very smart Indians who are good employees but businesses tend to deal with them more cautiously now as compared to the past.

US Indians are miles ahead of their Canadian counterparts there is no doubt but the smart Indians we keep hearing about are not that very common. Most Indians that come here are roped in by some shady consultancy company that pays them pennies for the work they do and they live in terrible conditions. Most of them are H1B workers.

It's 50/50 with telgu Indians, they can be either very smart and know their stuff or they are good at bluffing. I have seen Indian resumes that look so good would put Mark Zuckerberg to shame but they are lost like a deer caught in headlights when I interview them. The thick Indian accent puts me off at times but thankfully I don't have to deal with them a lot in my line of work. We recently hired an Indian employee from Mumbai for Analyst role. She's a good employee, very dedicated and hardworking. It's usually a safe bet to hire Indian females vs the males.

Agree.

There are quite a few US-based Indian posters here. A lot of them seem quite obnoxious.

Not just Indians, all illegals need to be sent back. It's crazy how many illegals have been allowed to stay here and get lost in the system.

If lying on resume is being economic terrorist then many Americans that are not of Indian origin will be in that category , because over exaggeration is common in US, from FDA to oil companies take your pick.

Businesses are always careful of any employee, in my company we hire people that can do a project and bring and then be questioned on the same code, I’ll be surprised people are being hired based on resumes anywhere in US, if they are they actually need to correct themselves not the employee sneaking in.

Think no one would worry about the immigrants if they did it legally. It's the illegal route which US and every country should rightly be aversed to regardless of the nationality of illegal immigrants.

I don't think any sane person will oppose this. All illegals should be deported back to their country of origin. Migration should always happen through legal channels with exceptional of few asylum cases.

I'll be more than happy, the day all illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas are deported back. They are obnoxious bunch, pain in our back side and are now spread everywhere in every major Indian city.

Canada, almost all of them are legal.

The amount of rona dhona here when Europe or UK tries to stop illegal immigrants or when India passed a law that didn't allow muslim Bangladeshis and Rohingyas to get fast track citizenship in India is massive.

Illegal immigrants are a big problem for my country. A curse.

Especially people who in 1947 wanted another country and now want to enter and live in ind because economically India is far ahead.

They have no place in India. Even if they are detected after 50-60 years they will be deported.

US military plane carrying deported Indians lands in Punjab

A US deportation flight carrying about 100 Indian nationals accused of entering the country illegally has landed in the state of Punjab.

The military aircraft, which left Texas late on Tuesday, is now in the city of Amritsar where authorities say they have put measures in place to process the deportees.

President Donald Trump has made the mass deportation of undocumented foreign nationals a key policy. The US is said to have identified about 18,000 Indian nationals it believes entered illegally.

Trump has said India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured him that the country would "do what's right" in accepting US deportations.

Authorities in Punjab say they have set up special counters to receive the deportees, adding the individuals would be treated in a "friendly" manner.

Journalists have gathered outside police barricades near an Indian Air Force building in Amritsar.

There are 104 Indian deportees on the flight and they will be processed separately from regular passengers before boarding buses to their home states, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.

Trump is increasingly using US military planes to return individuals to their home countries.

However, deportation flights to India are not new. In the US fiscal year 2024, which ended in September, more than 1,000 Indian nationals had been repatriated by charter and commercial flights.

In October, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported more than 100 Indian nationals who lacked legal grounds to stay in the US on a chartered flight, part of a rising trend in removals to India.

That flight carrying adult men and women was also routed to Punjab, close to many deportees' places of origin. No precise breakdown of hometowns was provided.

Much of the migration from India to US appears to originate from the Sikh-dominated state of Punjab and neighbouring Haryana, which has traditionally seen people migrating overseas. The other source of origin is Gujarat, Modi's home state.

"That has been part of a steady increase in removals from the US of Indian nationals over the past few years, which corresponds with a general increase in encounters that we have seen with Indian nationals in the last few years as well," Royce Bernstein Murray, assistant secretary at the US Department of Homeland Security told a media briefing in October.

Encounters refer to instances where non-citizens are stopped by US authorities while attempting to cross the country's borders with Mexico or Canada.

A total of 5,477 Indians have been deported from the US by ICE between 2018 and 2023, according to official figures. More than 2,300 were deported in 2020, the highest in recent years.

The number of undocumented Indian immigrants in the US is disputed.

New data from Pew Research Center estimates 725,000 people as of 2022, making them the third-largest group after Mexico and El Salvador.

In contrast, the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) puts the figure at 375,000, ranking India fifth among origin countries. Unauthorised immigrants make up 3% of the US population and 22% of the foreign-born population.

In November, 1.44 million non-citizens in the US remain on ICE's "non-detained docket with final orders of removal", according to an ICE document, accessed by Fox News.

The highest numbers come from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Mexico, each with over 200,000 individuals awaiting deportation.

China has 37,908 cases, while India has 17,940 on the list.

The ICE document says the US government expects foreign nations to accept their citizens but faces resistance.

ICE currently classifies 15 countries as "uncooperative", including China, India, Iran, Russia and Venezuela. Eleven others, such as Iraq, Nicaragua and Vietnam, are considered at risk of non-compliance.

"Factors that could lead to a country being classified as uncooperative include hindering ICE's removal efforts by refusing to conduct consular interviews when necessary; refusing to accept charter removal missions; having an unacceptable ratio of releases when compared to removals and/or unacceptable average time from executable final order of removal to removal; and/or denying or delaying issuance of travel documents, such as passports," the document says.

India's foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said recently that India was "firmly opposed to illegal migration, especially as it is linked to other forms of organised crime".

"As part of India-US migration and mobility cooperation, both sides are engaged in a process to deter illegal migration, while also creating more avenues for legal migration from India to the US. We are keen to continue this cooperation.

"At the same time, the government of India would need to do the required verification, including nationality of the concerned individuals before they are deported to India."

Last year, under former US President Joe Biden, 271,000 migrants were deported to 192 countries.

If you ever read authors from the time of the British Raj, the English didn't have a great impression of Indian character, generally they were seen as devious and prone to lying. There were other descriptions such as lascivious or ingratiating as well. This was probably tinged with more than a touch of racism, but truthfully, it's still an unspoken truth today. You can see it in how they are portrayed in western entertainment, although some of the more obviously racist shows have been banned now.

But it doesn't take much to scratch below the surface and see the same attitudes prevail today, they just aren't spoken openly. But as soon as the idea of H1B visas leading to Indians flooding into the US in large numbers becomes a possibility, then the ugly views start surfacing.

Of course while I am describing Anglo attitudes down the years towards Indians, it is quite ironic that we are seeing Indians mimicking the same attitudes but replacing Indians with Bangladeshis and Rohingyas as undesirables in this thread.

I expect more Indian deportations.

India is actually the third largest illegal migrant group in USA (only behind Mexicans and El Salvadorians).

Which is quite embarrassing really. At least Mexico and El Salvador are part of the American continent. If anything you could say the Europeans were the original illegal immigrants.

Quite a hike to get there from India though.

If feku has any shame left (which I'm sure he hasn't), he should take up this inhumane treatment of Indian citizens by US in his meeting with Trump. But knowing him very well for over 3 decades now, I'm sure the coward that he is, this is beyond his aukaat.

How do you think criminals should be treated?

My question to Modi is when will we do this to illegal immigrants in India?

This is how you get rid of illegal immigrants. Not allow them to have forged ID cards and use them as vote bank. A lesson also for our courts to not poke their noses and help illegal immigrants.

All illegals are criminals and must be deported back to their country of origin asap.

We fully support Trump govt in its efforts to Make America great again.

What a stupid comeback!

Thread is about illegal Indians in USA. This guy brings in players stuck in Dhaka.

If this is not mental illness, I don't know what is.

I am showing a Bangladeshi the mirror.

You know how many Bangladeshis have been arrested in last couple of months in India?

" Modi Hai to Mumkin Hai "

@Rajdeep credit Goes to fenku Modi also or he is just takes credit for all positive things Only

:kp
Whats so bad about illegal immigrants getting booted out? Canadian govt will have to book cruise ships to send illegal Indians back to India. It will be a 2 year long booking at least and i am not even sure if that would be enough.

Problem is not that illegal immigrants are Deported . But plenty of issues if some of them are sent back home with handcuffs, legs chained and struggled to use washroom as has been alleged . Deportation with dignity should be the message from Government of India surely to the Trump govt, no?

Your country is a big source of illegal immigration and call center scam.

Difference is they no record of entering legally, for legally entered ones that stayed long that is usually the procedure of being sent back via normal flights.

This is correct. Illegal migrants are subjected to expedited removal and this is a typical procedure to send them back but wasn’t being enforced during Biden’s time. I saw somewhere each illegal migrant cost more than 4000 US dollars for a flight to India. Let’s see if the rest of them will be removed in a similar fashion or the first batch was just to send a message to potential migrants illegally crossing the border.
