Thane Horror: Severed Head of Woman Spotted by Passers-by, Probe Underway to Identify Victim

A severed head of a woman was found in a drain near a slaughterhouse in Thane’s Bhiwandi area, sparking a murder probe. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched an investigation to identify the victim.

Thane: Residents of Bhiwandi in Maharashtra’s Thane district were left shocked after the severed head of a woman was discovered in a drain near a slaughterhouse on Idgah Road. The gruesome find, made on Saturday morning, has prompted police to register a murder case and launch a probe to identify the victim and those responsible.
According to officials, some passers-by spotted the chopped head lying in the drain around 11.30 am on Saturday. The woman is believed to be between 25 and 30 years old. Police noted that the head bore traces of metal jewellery in the nose and ears, which may help in identifying her.

After being alerted, police reached the spot and sent the severed head, with metal jewellery in the nose and ears, to a hospital for examination,” an official from the Bhiwandi police control room said.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons under Sections 103 (murder) and 238 (destruction of evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities have begun investigating the case.

Similarly, last week, a three-year-old boy from Surat was found murdered inside the lavatory of the Kushinagar Express at Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT). The child, who had been missing since 21 August, was discovered around 1 am when conservancy workers cleaning the train stumbled upon his body hidden in a dustbin. The post-mortem confirmed his throat had been slit, and police named his cousin, 26-year-old Vikas Kumar Shah, as the prime suspect, launching a manhunt to trace him.

In the CCTV footage of the assault, the couple is seen riding through a village. As the bike stops outside a house, Anusha gets down and begins walking straight probably towards her house. She can be seen limping. It is then that Kumar grabs her jacket from the back, pulls her towards him, and pushes her towards the parked bike. She sits on the porch.

A woman from the neighbouring house hands over a key to Kumar, who then pulls Anusha first by the neck and then by the arm and pushes her to unlock the door. Anusha throws away what appears to be a house key and Kumar launches an attack.

Kumar slaps Anusha twice, kicks her in the stomach, and then grabs a wooden log and hits her on the head six times. A neighbour tried to pull away Kumar and stop him from hitting his wife but all in vain.

Anusha was taken to a hospital where doctors declared her dead.

Anusha's brother filed a complaint and demanded strict action against the accused and his mother. Police said a case has been registered and further investigation is in progress.

Bengaluru:
A shocking incident has been reported from Bengaluru’s Rajaji Nagar Industrial Town, where a man killed his wife over the suspicion of her affair with someone else. The accused, Balamurugan, a software engineer by profession, has been arrested in the case, Bengaluru West Division DCP, S Girish, said.

The victim has been identified as Bhuvaneshwari, who worked as an Assistant Manager at a bank.

Both are originally from Tamil Nadu’s Salem and were married in 2011. They moved to Bengaluru in 2018.

Over the past one and a half to two years, the couple’s relationship had deteriorated, leading them to live separately. The couple had two children, aged 12 and 5, who were living with their mother.

The accused reportedly resigned from his job four months ago.

Recently, Bhuvaneshwari was transferred to Basaveshwara Nagar and moved there with the children. Upon learning this, her husband also relocated nearby. Preliminary investigations suggest that Balamurugan suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair, which had led to several arguments between them.

Accused fired four rounds at wife, surrenders later

On the day of the incident, the accused allegedly fired four rounds at his wife with a pistol, killing her on the spot. Locals immediately informed the police. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead.

Ballari killing puts private gun ownership under scrutiny as state mulls new regulations

Deputy CM DK Shivakumar has said that the government will consider tightening gun ownership laws.

The state government is considering tightening gun ownership laws after it emerged that the bullet that killed a Congress worker in Ballari district may have been fired from a privately owned weapon.

Rajashekhar Reddy was killed in a Congress-BJP clash outside Gangavathi BJP MLA Janardhana Reddy’s residence on January 1, when both police and private gunmen opened fire.

“In view of the incident, private guns have been confiscated in Ballari and we will frame new regulations for gun ownership,” Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar told reporters.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara told reporters that the case might be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

“We are mulling it. There are possibilities of giving the matter to the CID. I will speak to CM Siddaramaiah. If need be then we will do it,” he told reporters.

Parameshwara also said that forensic ballistic examination is underway to determine the origin of the fatal bullet.

Attempted suicide?

Ballari Superintendent of Police Pavan Nejjur, who was suspended a day after taking charge of the district, was reported to have attempted suicide. However, police officers dismissed the claims.

Nejjur’s IPS batchmate Shrihari Babu BL told reporters that no such attempt took place and that there was “nothing to worry about” regarding his mental health. He said that Nejjur was staying at his (Babu’s) farmhouse in Tumakuru district after his suspension following the clashes.

Nejjur had taken charge as Ballari SP hours before the clash took place. He reached the location within half an hour of reports of violence emerging from the area, and without any immediate response from higher authorities, followed standard protocol on the ground. He was suspended afterwards, with the home minister holding him at fault for the disturbance to law and order in the area.

The clash took place when Congress workers were putting up posters ahead of Valmiki Jayanti, when BJP workers suddenly objected and began throwing stones at them. The police failed to control the situation through lathicharge, and eventually proceeded to fire as private gunmen also did the same. Rajashekhar was shot in the ensuing chaos.

Assistant Director General of Police (Law and Order) R Hitendra had said on January 2 that the bullet recovered during autopsy was not from a police-issue weapon. Five gunmen’s firearms were seized in relation to the accidental killing.

The ADGP revealed on January 3 that prima facie analysis suggested the bullet was fired from the weapon of Congress MLA Bharath Reddy’s gunman, who is now absconding.

Defending Bharath Reddy, DK Shivakumar said, “There was no violence until Janardhan Reddy was allowed into Ballari. He has no right to speak about the violence. Our party will stand firmly behind our MLA Bharath Reddy.”

The ADGP had further stated that four cases had been registered in connection to the clashes, with no arrests made so far. One of the cases was registered against Janardhana Reddy himself. Three cases were registered on the basis of complaints, while one was taken up suo moto by Ballari City DSP Chandrakanth Nanda Reddy.

Gangavathi MLA and BJP leader G Janardhana Reddy in turn filed counter complaints at Bruce Pete police station naming 23 people, including Congress MLA Nara Bharath Reddy. He alleged assault and breaking and entering were carried out at his residence at the Congress MLA’s behest.

Janardhana also wrote separate letters to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 4 demanding he be provided Z - category security given the circumstances.

Addressing Janardhana’s allegations, Dy CM Shivakumar said, “He is a film producer after all, so acting comes naturally... The Reddy family is unable to digest the defeat in Ballari and is therefore making such accusations.”

‘I am living only to seek justice’: A mother speaks after her husband killed their children

According to the woman, her husband had claimed to have given her talaq five years ago, after which she recently approached the Tirur Family Court and obtained an order permitting her to reside with him.

A woman from Farooq in Kerala’s Kozhikode district, along with her nine-year-old son, has been living in the veranda of her husband’s house for the past nine days after he allegedly refused to let her enter the residence, despite a family court order allowing her to live there.

According to the woman, Haseena, her husband, Muhammad Fasil, had claimed to have given her talaq (an Islamic form of divorce) five years ago. She said she recently approached the Tirur Family Court and obtained an order permitting her to reside with him. However, when she arrived at his house, she was allegedly denied entry. She further alleged that Fasil locked the house and left.

“I came here to live with my husband after the court order. But he left the house and is now living separately with another wife and child,” Haseena told the media. “He says he has given me talaq, but neither my family nor I were informed about any such talaq.”

Haseena also alleged that her husband had refused to return 42 sovereigns of gold and Rs 90,000, which she said were given to him as dowry at the time of their marriage. “When we asked for the gold and the money, he said he didn't know anything about it,” she said.

The couple reportedly got married in 2015. Haseena alleged that while there were no major issues in the initial years, he began physically abusing her from around 2018 onwards, with her husband allegedly making derogatory remarks about her appearance and lack of educational qualifications. In 2020, she filed a police complaint alleging domestic violence, though the matter was later resolved through mediation.

She said she learned that Fasil had allegedly pronounced talaq when she visited her parental home during Perunnal (a festival marking Eid). Over the years that followed, she made several attempts to return to her marital home, but was repeatedly denied entry. She then approached the family court, which issued an order allowing her to reside with her husband.

Describing the past nine days, Haseena said she and her son have been forced to sleep on the veranda of the house. “It has been extremely difficult, especially because of the cold and the presence of stray dogs,” she said.

Following media reports on the incident, the Kerala State Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter.

A man accused of killing his wife Nikki over dowry, was shot in the leg during a police encounter in Greater Noida while he attempted at escaping.

Greater Noida: In a major turn of events in the Greater Noida Dowry case, the accused Vipin Bhati was shot in the leg during an encounter with the police and later was admitted to a hospital in Greater Noida.
Vipin Bhati, along with his mother, was accused of burning his wife Nikki alive using petrol over dowry claims. Married in 2016, Nikki, a resident of Dadri’s Rupbas, had long faced harassment, with her husband, Vipin Bhati, allegedly addicted to alcohol and involved in an extramarital affair.
Enraged family members held a protest outside the Kasna Police Station, demanding strict action, following which police promptly registered a case and formed several teams.

Her sister Kanchan claimed that despite being married for eight years and her family already giving a Scorpio car and other valuables, the in-laws continued to demand Rs 36 lakh in dowry. Both sisters, Nikki and Kanchan, were married into the same family in 2016, Nikki to Vipin Bhati and Kanchan to his brother, Rohit Bhati.

She also told the police that they used to beat her regularly, and when she tried to stop them, they beat her too, even in front of the children. On the day of the incident, Vipin allegedly hit both sisters, struck Nikki on the neck, and then poured petrol on her before setting her on fire.
However, according to the ANI report, accused Vipin Bhati completely denied killing his wife Nikki says, “I did not kill her. She died on her own,” and when asked about the allegations of assault and torture, he dismissed them as a "common fight between husband and wife."

Meanwhile, Nikki's father said that their in-laws had been harassing her for dowry and that her mother-in-law poured kerosene on her, while Bhati set her ablaze. “They kept asking for dowry, now their demands have been met because my daughter has died. They demanded a car and tortured her for that,” he said.
Further, he claimed that the family had once taken Nikki back home due to constant domestic violence, but societal pressure forced them to return her after assurances from her in-laws. “That person is neither man nor human; he is a butcher. We trusted their promise, but it continued. Now they have got what they wanted,” he said.

The victim’s father also recounted the tragic events, stating that Nikki suffered nearly 70 percent burns. She was first rushed to Fortis Hospital before being referred to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi, where she succumbed to her injuries on her way. “These monsters didn’t think twice before setting someone’s daughter on fire. They should be hanged. Even my grandson has told everyone how it happened,” he added.

‘Papa Killed Mummy’: Son Recalls Mother's Brutal Death

In a heart-wrenching statement earlier, Nikki’s six-year-old son told the media: “Meri mumma ke upar kuch dala, fir unko chanta mara, fir lighter se aag laga di.” (They poured something on my mother, slapped her, and then set her on fire using a lighter). The child’s emotional statement has strengthened the case against the woman’s husband and in-laws, as he revealed that he saw his father and grandmother set his mother on fire.
Two disturbing videos of the incident have surfaced on the internet. In one video, Nikki is seen being dragged by her hair and assaulted by her husband and mother-in-law. In another, she is seen limping down the stairs, badly burned, moments before she died, captured by her sister Kanchan.

Madhya Pradesh Man, 90, Killed As Truck With Gravel Overturns On Him

Residents said he was sitting outside his home, enjoying the winter sunlight, when a dump truck arrived in the area for construction work at a nearby house.

Gwalior:
A tragic accident claimed the life of a 90-year-old man in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior when a dump truck loaded with gravel overturned on him while he was sitting outside his house to bask in the sun. The accident took place on Friday and was caught on CCTV.

The victim has been identified as Girraj Sharma, who lived with his grandson Satish Sharma. According to local residents, Sharma was sitting outside his home, enjoying the winter sunlight, when a dump truck arrived in the area for construction work at a nearby house.

As the vehicle moved forward, one of its tyres reportedly got stuck in a pothole on the road. The truck lost balance and overturned suddenly. Seeing the vehicle tilt, the elderly man attempted to get up, but before he could move away, the gravel spilt onto him. He died on the spot after being crushed under the heavy load.

After the accident, the dump truck driver fled the scene. Residents of the area immediately informed the police. Personnel from Bahodapur police station reached the spot and recovered the body from beneath the overturned vehicle. Family members of the victim also arrived at the scene shortly after.

Additional Superintendent of Police Jayraj Kuber said the accident occurred due to unstable ground conditions. "A water pipeline had been laid in the area a few days ago, which made the soil wet. This caused the dump truck to lose balance and overturn. The elderly man was crushed under the vehicle and died," he said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and the dump truck has been seized. Police said further action is being taken to trace the driver and determine responsibility.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety and construction practices in residential areas, particularly the risks posed to elderly residents.

'Raped, Axed to Death': Mutilated Body of Missing 11-Year-Old Girl Found in Chhattisgarh

An 11-year-old girl was raped and brutally murdered with an axe in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur. Police arrested a 24-year-old family acquaintance after the victim’s body was discovered in a village field.

Raipur: In a harrowing incident that has shocked Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, an 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed with an axe in a brutal attempt to conceal the crime. The victim had been missing since December 31. Despite extensive searches by her family and local residents, she remained untraceable until Sunday, January 4, when villagers discovered her mutilated body in a field within the jurisdiction of the Sonpur Police Station, according to media reports.

Authorities have arrested a 24-year-old man, identified as an acquaintance of the victim’s family. Preliminary investigations suggest the accused sexually assaulted the minor and subsequently murdered her to prevent his identity from being revealed. "Scientific and technical evidence is currently being collected. Strict legal action will be taken upon the completion of the investigation," stated Sundarraj P, Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, reported news agency PTI.

A Disturbing Pattern
This atrocity follows a similarly gruesome case from last year in Durg, where a six-year-old girl was found tortured and murdered. In that instance, the victim’s body was discovered hidden in a vehicle, bearing signs of extreme physical abuse.
At the time, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai condemned the violence, calling it an "act that tarnishes humanity" and promising that such criminals would find no place in a civilized society.
While the Durg case saw high-level intervention, the investigation into this latest incident in Narayanpur is ongoing as local authorities work to ensure a swift and rigorous prosecution.

UP Horror: 5-Year-Old Girl Gang-Raped and Killed; Neighboring Tenants Arrested

Two men were arrested following a police encounter in Bulandshahr for the alleged gang-rape and murder of a five-year-old neighbor. The suspects confessed after being injured in the shootout.

Bulandshahr: A five-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and murdered by two men in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district, police confirmed on Saturday. The suspects, who lived in the same building as the victim, were arrested following a police encounter. The matter came to light late Friday evening when police received a report of a minor girl found seriously injured within the limits of the Sikandrabad police station.
According to Superintendent of Police (Rural) Tejveer Singh, officers and the girl's family immediately rushed her to a local community health center, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Based on a complaint filed by the girl’s father, a formal case was registered. The father alleged that two young men, who were renting a room in their building, had kidnapped, raped, and killed his daughter.

Following the complaint, the suspects fled the scene, prompting the police to form three specialized teams to track them down. Acting on a tip-off that the duo was hiding in an under-construction colony on Kanwara Road, police cordoned off the area.
During the attempt to apprehend them, an encounter broke out. The suspects, identified as Raju (a resident of Balrampur) and Veeru Kashyap (from Lakhimpur Kheri), sustained gunshot wounds to their legs. They were subsequently taken into custody and shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Authorities recovered illegal weapons and live cartridges from the possession of the accused. During preliminary questioning, both men reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime.
"The accused have admitted to their involvement in the minor girl’s death. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact motive behind the murder," SP Tejveer Singh stated.

Prayagraj Triple Murder: Man Kills Father, Sister and Niece Over Land Dispute, Hides Bodies in Well

In Uttar Pradesh, India, a man named Mukesh Patel has been arrested for allegedly murdering his father, sister, and teenage niece over a land dispute, using an axe.

A man has been arrested in northern India after allegedly killing his father, sister and teenage niece with an axe over a land dispute and dumping their bodies in a well. The killings took place in a village in the Ganga Nagar area of Prayagraj, in Uttar Pradesh, reports PTI.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Gunawat said the case came to light after a missing persons complaint was filed on Sunday by Mukund Patel, who reported that his father, sister and niece had disappeared. He told police he suspected his elder brother, Mukesh Patel, might be involved.

Police detained Mukesh Patel on Monday and questioned him with the help of a special operations group. During interrogation, Patel allegedly confessed to the killings, Gunawat said

According to police, Patel had been in a long-running dispute with his father, Ram Singh, 55, after Singh transferred four bighas of land to Mukund. Investigators said Patel demanded 10 biswa of land for himself and became enraged when his father refused.

On the night of Jan. 2, Patel allegedly went to the family home intending to kill his father. He first tried to strangle Singh, police said. When his sister, Sadhana, 21, and niece, Aastha, 14, attempted to intervene, Patel allegedly attacked them with an axe that was lying nearby.
“All three were killed during the assault,” Gunawat said.
Police said Patel then took advantage of dense fog that night to dispose of the bodies. He allegedly dumped them into a nearby well and covered the opening with straw to conceal the crime.

Following Patel’s confession, police recovered the bodies of the three victims from the well. The axe believed to have been used in the killings was also recovered, police said.
During the investigation, police also seized a country-made pistol and two cartridges from Patel’s possession, Gunawat added.
An official case has been registered against the accused at Mauaima police station, and further legal proceedings are underway. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death.

Blue Drum Horror Repeats? UP Businessman Killed by Wife, Lovers; Body Chopped, Head Still Missing

In Chandausi, Uttar Pradesh, a woman named Ruby is accused of conspiring with her lovers to murder her husband, Rahul, and dismember his body.

Bareilly: Even as the shock of the brutal “Blue Drum murder case” in Meerut has yet to fade, an equally gruesome crime has emerged from Chandausi in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district. A woman is alleged to have plotted with her lovers to murder her husband, dismember his body, and dispose of the remains at multiple locations.
The case came to light on December 15, when severed body parts of a man were found stuffed in polythene bags near the Idgah on Patraua Road in the Chandausi area.

Police said the body was mutilated with extreme brutality, with the head, hands and legs severed.

"Initial identification proved difficult as the head was missing. However, police got a crucial lead when they noticed the name “Rahul” engraved on one of the severed arms. Further investigation confirmed the deceased as Rahul (40), a shoe trader and resident of Chunni locality in Chandausi," police added.

The investigation took a dramatic turn after police discovered that Rahul’s wife, Ruby, had filed a missing person’s complaint on November 18. However, inconsistencies in her statements during questioning raised red flags. Subsequent surveillance and technical evidence helped investigators reconstruct the sequence of events, leading to the detention of Ruby, her lover Gaurav and another individual for questioning.
Police said Rahul had been married to Ruby for 15 years and the couple had two children - a 12-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter. The girl allegedly told investigators that her parents frequently fought and that three people often visited their home, sometimes bringing her chocolates. She reportedly broke down during questioning and repeatedly said her mother was also involved, urging the police to “hang everyone responsible.”
On Sunday, police recovered crucial evidence from Rahul’s house, including a cot leg, a scooter, a bag, a toilet brush, an iron rod and an electric heater. Forensic teams believe the murder was committed inside the house, after which the body was dismembered and the remains disposed of, according to TOI.
Police are continuing the search for Rahul’s missing head and other body parts. Investigators said the murder was allegedly planned on the lines of the Meerut Muskaan case

Ground report: Visiting Kerala’s Attappallam, where a migrant worker was beaten to death

After five days of his job hunt in Kerala’s Palakkad turned futile, Chhattisgarh-native Ram Narayan had decided to return home. But on December 17, a violent mob killed him. TNM pieces together the events that led to the migrant worker’s death.

It was with dreams of finding a job and financially securing his family that Ram Narayan Baghel, a 40-year-old construction worker from Karhi village in Chhattisgarh, arrived in Kerala’s Palakkad on December 13. Just five days after his arrival, on December 17, he was brutally lynched to death by a mob.

With Ram Narayan’s tragic death gaining state-wide attention, theories are afloat in the media and among local residents about what triggered the mob attack. On December 22, TNM visited Attappallam, a small town near Walayar, about 18 km from Palakkad, five days after the incident. Residents expressed reluctance to speak to the media, citing the ongoing police investigation. “I was not there, I only know what people told me,” many told TNM.

So far, the police have arrested seven persons, three of them who were with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and one with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)].

Through conversations with witnesses, accused persons and their relatives, and the police, TNM has pieced together the events that led to the migrant worker’s death on December 17.

The mob attack

One of the first persons TNM spoke to on December 22 was 49-year-old Jagadheesh Kumar, inside whose compound walls the men attacked Ram Narayan, before allegedly dragging him to a spot 100 metres away. However, on December 23, Jagadheesh and his neighbour Vinod were arrested by the police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the murder of Ram Narayan.

According to Jagadeesh, in the afternoon of December 17, he was resting at home when he heard a commotion outside. Stepping out, he said he saw three men beating up a migrant worker inside his compound. "I was shocked and asked what was happening. I told them they couldn’t do this in my compound. So they took him out and continued to beat him,” he said.

During our conversation, Jagadeesh insisted that even though a small group had gathered around Ram Narayan by then, only three men had attacked him. He added that he wasn’t able to identify the attackers by their names.

Two places where Ram Narayan was assaulted Megha Mukundan
Police were alerted about the incident around 3.30 pm, and reached the scene at 3.45 pm. Raja N, the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Walayar police station, told TNM that more than 50 people were present at the scene. “Ram Narayan looked tired; apart from that, he only had minor visible injuries. He was also able to speak during that time,” Raja said.

He was shifted to the Palakkad District Government Hospital, where he succumbed to internal injuries around 7.35 pm. Subsequently, the police contacted his family, and his wife, children, and brother came to Palakkad.

‘No women workers attacked’

Attapallam residents told TNM that about earlier that afternoon, a disoriented Ram Narayan had approached a group of women labourers working in a field. Some reports said that Ram Narayan had tried to attack the women, who were workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA), and that they then called the accused for help.

When TNM spoke to some of the workers who were present there at the time, they said that Ram Narayan had not attacked them and that they had not called anyone for help.

After five days of his job hunt turned futile, Ram Narayan had reportedly decided to return to his home in Chattisgarh. But on December 17, he reportedly lost his way in Attappallam. Disoriented and lost, he approached the women workers for help calling a few numbers he had scribbled on a note in his pocket.

According to the workers, they were cleaning a coconut grove around 2 pm, when Ram Narayan approached them holding three big stones. Frightened, they asked him to leave. “Initially, we thought he had come to attack us, but when we asked him to put down the stones, he did so. Then, he pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket. We understood that he needed to make a call, but we didn’t have a phone with us, and nobody spoke Hindi, so we asked him to leave. He left the place,” said Sarojini, a 67-year-old worker.

The workers said that Ram Narayan appeared to be intoxicated and had picked up a stick when he left.

Reports also mentioned that an alleged theft had occurred in the neighbourhood nearly a week ago, which led the local residents to be suspicious of Ram Narayan. This was refuted by the Walayar police, who told TNM that no incident of theft had been reported in the area.

Palakkad police chief Ajith Kumar IPS constituted a 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the investigation under the Palakkad district crime branch. Speaking with the media on December 22, Ajith Kumar said that so far, investigations do not hint at a planned attack. He also said that the police will add sections of the SC/ST (prevention of Atrocities) Act after verifying Ram Narayan’s caste certificate.

"Further legal action will be taken as the investigation progresses. We are also reviewing any previous cases against the accused," he added.

Hate politics?

Ten days after arriving in Kerala in search of work, Ram Narayan returned to his hometown in a coffin. On December 23, his family took his mortal remains to his village in Chhattisgarh. A construction worker, Ram Narayan came to Kerala in search of a job, taking after his cousin Sashikanth Baghel who works in Palakkad.

In the days after the assault, a video circulating on social media showed a dishevelled Ram Narayan huddled on the ground, with a voice heard asking, “Are you from Bangladesh?” When Ram Narayan does not reply to this, a man suddenly hits him, saying that he is Bangladeshi.

MB Rajesh, the Kerala Minister for Local Self Government, alleged that hate-driven politics practised by the Sangh Parivar led to the mob assault and killing. “Branding a person as Bangladeshi arises out of xenophobia and racial politics,” the Minister said.

According to Bindu CS, CPI(M) worker and former Attappallam ward member, the accused are not active in politics. She said that while Anu (38), Prasad (34), and Murali (38) were active members of the BJP until a few years ago, Ananthan (55) is a former CPI(M) worker.

The others arrested include Vipin (30), Jagadheesh (49), and Vinod.

TNM met the family of Anu, the first accused in the case. According to them, “Anu did not beat him with the intention of killing.”

Anu’s sister-in-law Anju told TNM that while it is true that Anu beat Ram Narayan, “it was not so harsh that it would kill him”. “Anu beat him, and that is not okay. But what is happening now is the politicising of the whole incident. A mob attacked him, not just Anu,” she said.

Anju also mentioned that she had visited Anu in jail after the arrest. "Anu told me he went there after one of his friends called him. Since Anu speaks Hindi, the residents asked him to help communicate with the migrant worker. He was not involved in the larger attack."

‘Beaten like an animal’

The post mortem examination of Ram Narayan’s body was conducted at the Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital on December 18. The post mortem report revealed the extent of the violence he had faced. It confirmed that he was brutally beaten, suffering more than 80 injuries across his body, including severe wounds to his head. Doctors noted extensive internal bleeding and concluded that he died due to assault and blood loss from head injuries.

Dr Hithesh Shankar, who conducted the post-mortem, told the media, “There is no part of the body without injuries.” He said the assault was “cruel” and carried out “from different sides,” adding that it was clearly “a mob attack” and that the victim was “beaten like an animal”.

The State Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and ordered an inquiry and directed the Palakkad district police chief to submit a detailed report within three weeks.

Family demands compensation

The police’s initial handling of the case drew sharp criticism, and led to the formation of an action council on December 19 to assist the family and support them in legal matters. The action council was led by Jabbar, whose intellectually disabled brother Ashraf, (32) was beaten to death by a mob in Mangaluru in April 2025.

Ram Narayan's family heard about the attack and his death late on December 17, when the police contacted them. "After his death, the hospital authorities returned his belongings, and we found a white paper with a few numbers written on it. We called those numbers to inform the family," the police stated.

On December 21, Ram Narayan’s wife Lalitha, their two children, her mother, and Ram Narayan’s brother arrived in Kerala. The family, along with the action council, held a protest in Thrissur demanding compensation and the addition of more charges against the accused, including sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Image featuring Ram Narayan's family with the action council members, who are helping them

Ram Narayan's family with the action council members, who are helping them
Speaking with the media, Ram Narayan’s brother said he was the only breadwinner in their family, and the government should ensure fair compensation. Demanding a compensation of Rs 25 Lakhs, the family said that they would only receive the body after the compensation was paid to them.

According to Jabbar, "The police didn’t handle this case with the seriousness that a mob lynching demands. They asked Ram Narayan’s family to pay up the Rs 25,000 needed for transporting his mortal remains. Even the transportation charge from Palakkad Government Hospital to Thrissur Medical College for post mortem was paid by Ram Narayan’s cousin.”

"This is indicative of the mentality of hate towards migrants. [The attackers] alleged Ram Narayan was from Bangladesh. This is not the first such case. But this one became sensational. This might be rare in our state, but this is common and even considered normal in India,” Jabbar added.

Following protests, Revenue Minister K Rajan met the family and members of the action council on December 22. The Minister assured them that an amount not less than Rs 10 lakhs would be given to them and that this decision will be cleared in the next cabinet meeting. Subsequently, the family accepted Ram Narayan’s mortal remains and left for Raipur on December 23.

Earlier in April 2024, a 24-year-old migrant worker was killed in a mob attack in Ernakulam’s Muvattupuzha by local residents. The police arrested 10 individuals in connection with the crime.

Chhattisgarh Man Lynched in Kerala Over Suspicion of Being Thief And Bangladeshi - What Triggered the Mob

A migrant worker from Chhattisgarh, Ramnarayan, was killed in Kerala due to mistaken identity and accusations of theft and being a Bangladeshi.

Palakkad: A migrant worker from Chhattisgarh was lynched to death in Kerala's Palakkad over suspicion of being a thief and a Bangladeshi. The 31-year-old Ramnarayan travelled to Kerala in search of work but was beaten to death by the locals, reportedly over mistaken identity.
This has happened in Kizhakeattappallam near Walayar in Palakkad district where few people had gathered and thought that the migrant worker had stolen something and also mistaken his identity assuming him a Bangladeshi. When they confronted the migrant worker, what began as an argument soon turned into a violent act against the victim as he was beaten to death

The post-mortem report states that there were more than 80 injuries on his body, severe cuts, head injury. In fact, it was the head injury that led to his death.

According to police, at least 5 people have been arrested and charged under multiple sections including that of murder.

Kerala Govt Assures Strictest Punishment, Targets RSS

The Kerala government assured stringent action in the mob lynching of a Chattisgarh native mistaken to be a thief, and promised justice to the family, even as the ruling CPI(M) targeted the RSS over the assault, a charge denied by the BJP.
With the issue sending shock waves across the state, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday described the incident as "deeply disturbing"

Assuring justice to his family, who have arrived in the state, Vijayan said such acts tarnish the reputation of a progressive society like Kerala and are completely unacceptable.
State minister MB Rajesh claimed racial slurs were made at the victim and that the attackers were RSS workers. Ruling CPI (M) state secretary MV Govindan also alleged that RSS-BJP workers were behind the crime.

Kerala CM on Migrant Worker's Lynching

In a statement issued by the CM's office, Vijayan said strict action would be taken against those responsible for the crime.
A special investigation team of the district police is probing the incident, he said, adding that instructions have been issued to thoroughly examine the details of the case and initiate all necessary legal proceedings.
The government will also review the matter and ensure appropriate compensation to the victim's family, Vijayan added.
He called for collective vigilance to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
His remarks came a day after opposition Congress and the victim's family demanded compensation and an investigation under stringent laws, including the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Victim's Brother Refuses To Accept His Body Until Demands Are Met

The brother of deceased man told reporters on Sunday that the family would not accept the body until their demands, including compensation of Rs 25 lakh, are met.
Kerala ministers K Rajan and Rajesh strongly condemned the incident and said it was not just a mob lynching case but racial abuse was involved in it.
The ministers said the accused had attacked the deceased man, calling him a "Bangladeshi" and beat him to death.
"The government will ensure a foolproof probe into the incident, and no one involved in the crime will be spared," Revenue Minister Rajan told reporters in Thrissur.
He said an amount not less than Rs 10 lakh would be granted from the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) to the deceased man's family and a cabinet meeting would take a decision in this regard.
LSGD Minister Rajesh also said Ramnarayan was branded as a Bangladeshi by the attackers.
While talking to reporters in Palakkad, he alleged that those who brutally assaulted and killed Ramnarayan were RSS workers.

Ramnarayan Came To Kerala In Search of Work

The Chhattisgarh native, who reached Kerala in search of a job, became a victim of the "divisive politics" of Sangh Parivar, Rajesh further alleged.
"Branding a person as Bangladeshi came from racial politics. Ramnarayan was a victim of the racial poison spread by the Sangh Parivar in the country," he charged.

Woman Claimed Husband Died In Toilet. Injuries Reveal Chilling Murder Plot

The 45-year-old man was allegedly strangled to death by his wife, along with a 22-year-old construction worker.

Hyderabad:
A 36-year-old woman and her paramour were among three persons arrested here for allegedly killing the woman's husband, who worked as a logistics manager at a private university, police said on Monday.

The 45-year-old man was allegedly strangled to death by his wife, along with a 22-year-old construction worker, with whom she developed an "illicit relationship" besides another accused at their residence in Boduppal on December 11, a release from Rachakonda Police Commissionerate said.

The woman misled relatives by stating that the death was due to a heart attack, it said.

She lodged a complaint at Medipally Police station stating that her husband was found unconscious in the washroom of their house and was declared dead at Government Hospital, Malkajgiri. A case was registered and investigation was taken up.

Police said during the course of investigation, suspicious injuries were noticed on the dead body, including injuries on the cheek and neck, raising some suspicion over the death.

Based on the CCTV footages and technical evidence, the woman and two other accused were arrested.

During the investigation it was revealed that the woman's husband upon suspecting the relationship, started questioning and harassing her and due to this, she and her paramour conspired to eliminate the manager, police said.

"Accordingly, on December 11, after the manager returned home from work, the second and third accused caught hold of him and assaulted him, while the woman, the prime accused, held his legs. The second accused (paramour) strangled the man using chunnis, causing his death. After the murder, the accused changed the clothes of the victim and disposed of the incriminating articles to destroy evidence," police said.

Mother Of 3 Dies By Suicide In Bihar, Husband Alleges 'Goonda Bank' Terror

Gudiya, her husband Pintu says, borrowed money from four separate microfinance companies and paid about Rs 12,500 in monthly instalments

A passbook, some pending instalments and a million questions: Pintu Goswami from Bihar's Muzaffarpur has lost his wife Gudiya Devi, 35, to suicide. The mother of three, he alleges, consumed a poisonous pesticide after being harassed by recovery agents of a microfinance company she borrowed money from.

Gudiya, he says, had borrowed money from four separate microfinance companies and paid about Rs 12,500 in monthly instalments. Pintu lives in Sheikhpura, nearly 164 km from Muzaffarpur, and works in construction. On Wednesday, Gudiya called Pintu and asked him to send Rs 2,500. He could not. Hours later, Gudiya was dead.

"My wife took a loan. We were paying it back gradually. They (recovery agents) would come and harass her. This firm loans money only to women. People borrow for building homes and sending children to school," said Pintu

He said they had borrowed around Rs 1.5 lakh. "Most of it had been paid back. A few instalments were left. But my wife consumed poison. I was in Sheikhpura. I found out that the recovery person had come. Something must have happened. We had no problems at home," he added.

Gudiya Devi is not alone. Earlier this month, Amarnath Ram and his three children died in Muzaffarpur in a suicide plan hatched by him. In the aftermath of the incident, some reports claimed he was under pressure to return money he borrowed from microfinance companies.

There is no official data on suicides due to harassment by loan recovery agents. Most borrowers from microfinance firms are from an underprivileged section of society, which explains why their harassment and intimidation go unheard. Over a one-and-half-year period, as many as 20 suicides have been linked to loans from microfinance firms. There is, however, no official confirmation of this figure. Many of these companies are not registered microfinance firms and are run by criminals or politicians, earning them the name 'goonda banks'.

Bihar Tops Country In Microfinance Loans

According to data from Sa-Dhan, a self-regulatory organisation for microfinance firms, Bihar has over 2 crore microfinance loan accounts - the highest in the country. These accounts amount to a loan of Rs 57, 712 crore - also the highest in the country.

This effectively means that every borrower owes an average of Rs 28,525 to a microfinance firm. On the district level, the country's 10 districts with the maximum loan from microfinance companies include five from Bihar.

The Recovery Horror

Meena Tiwari, the president of the CPIML wing, All India Progressive Women's Association, explained why microfinance firms are pushing borrowers to the edge.

"Authorities have no control over these companies. They lure women into borrowing money and tell them that they can take a loan and start their own business. But the amount is not enough to start a business. Later, these companies start harassing women to pay back. They are pushed to the edge, and some are driven to suicide.

The Many Deaths, And State Assurance

Twenty suicides in the past one-and-a-half years have been linked to microfinance companies. The cases span across Darbhanga, Saharasa, Begusarai, Patna, Saran, Muzaffarpur, and Munger. The victims include both men and women.

In fact, two employees of a microfinance firm in Patna died by suicide in March. One of the employees, Ananya, left behind a note: "The company is not good. It doesn't matter to them if someone dies."

The state government has now ordered strict action against these loan sharks. Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had warned these firms. Bihar's Director General of Police Vinay Kumar has now said loan sharks operate like a "mafia", charge exorbitant rates and force vulnerable people into extreme distress. "Such exploitative practices will not be tolerated. The police will take firm action against those involved in this," he said.

Locals said the family was reportedly very poor. Dudhkumar also had a son who works as a migrant labourer outside the state, officials added.

Bengaluru Teen’s Chilling Act: Strangles Mother With Boyfriend's Help, Tries To Pass It Off As Suicide

In Bengaluru, a woman named Netravathi, aged 34, was allegedly murdered by her teenage daughter and her boyfriend, along with three of his friends. The violent incident occurred after Netravathi confronted the couple upon discovering them together at home.

Bengaluru: A 34-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her own daughter and her boyfriend, along with three of his friends, in the city’s Uttarahalli area. The gruesome crime, which occurred last Saturday under the Subramanyapura Police Station limits, was discovered days later after the daughter went missing and a suspicious death complaint was filed.
The deceased, identified as Netravathi (34), lived with her teenage daughter in Uttarahalli. Police said the girl had been in a relationship with a young man and often brought him home. On the night of the incident, she arrived home with her boyfriend, and the duo was later joined by three of his friends.

At around 11 pm, Netravathi, who was asleep, woke up and caught her daughter with her boyfriend. She reportedly scolded them angrily, leading to a heated argument. What began as a confrontation soon spiralled into violence.

“In a fit of rage, the daughter and her friends held Netravathi down, covered her mouth, and during the scuffle, tightened a towel around her neck, suffocating her to death,” a police officer said.

Daughter and Boyfriend's Attempt To Stage Suicide

After realising she was dead, panic set in among the five juveniles. In a desperate attempt to hide their crime, they allegedly tied a saree around Netravathi’s neck and hung her body from the ceiling fan to make it look like a suicide. The group then locked the house and fled the scene.
The case took a dramatic turn when Netravathi’s elder sister, unable to reach either her or her niece over the phone, visited the house. Peering through a window, she saw Netravathi hanging from the fan and immediately alerted the police.
Her body was discovered on Monday morning when local residents noticed something amiss. The Subramanyapura Police initially registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR), unaware of the murder plot.

Missing Complaint Unravels the Truth

The daughter’s absence raised further suspicion. She did not even attend her mother’s funeral. On Wednesday, her aunt filed a missing person complaint, prompting police to investigate her whereabouts.
When officers questioned the girl’s boyfriend, he broke down and confessed. His statement revealed the shocking truth that the mother had been murdered, and the hanging was staged to mislead authorities.

Five Juveniles in Custody

All five accused, including the daughter, her boyfriend, and his three friends, have been taken into custody and are being interrogated. Police are also probing whether the juveniles had any prior plan to harm Netravathi or if the murder happened in the heat of the moment.

Woman Kills Husband With Lover's Help, Chops Body With Grinder, Throws It In Drain

The woman, identified as Ruby, confessed to killing her husband with the help of her lover Gaurav after Rahul caught them in an illicit relationship, according to the police.

A woman and her lover have been arrested for allegedly bludgeoning her husband to death and dismembering the body with a wood grinder in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal.
Superintendent of Police K K Bishnoi said the accused have been identified as Ruby and Gaurav, who were arrested on December 20 and have been sent to jail, reported news agency PTI. The woman confessed to killing her husband during interrogation.

According to the police, the woman and her lover attacked the deceased wth an iron rod and an iron pestle, killing him on the spot. They then bought a grinder and cut the body into parts, and threw the parts in a drain.

According to the police, Ruby had lodged a missing person complaint on November 18, stating that her husband Rahul (38) had gone missing. Around a month later, on December 15, the police recovered a mutilated body from a drain near the Eidgah area. The body's head, hands and legs were missing. Upon investigation, it was found that the body was of Rahul.

During the investigation, police found that the name 'Rahul' was written on the body. A review of missing persons reports in nearby police stations and technical analysis revealed that Rahul's mobile phone had been switched off since November 18.
Further probe led police to suspect Ruby's involvement. During interrogation, she confessed to killing her husband with the help of her lover Gaurav after Rahul caught them in an illicit relationship, the SP said.

"The body was taken into custody, and a post-mortem was conducted. The forensic team carried out a detailed examination, and DNA samples were collected,” the SP said. DNA samples of the deceased have also been preserved and will be matched with those of his children to conclusively establish identity and strengthen the case, the SP said.
"The accused told police that they attacked Rahul with an iron rod and an iron pestle, killing him on the spot. They then brought a grinder and cut the body into parts," Bishnoi said.

One part of the body was dumped in the drain where it was later recovered, while the remaining parts were taken to Rajghat and thrown into the Ganga river, he added.
Police have recovered the grinder allegedly used to cut the body, along with the iron hammer and other tools used in the assault.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is underway, police added.

Disabled Man Burnt Alive in Assam Protest Violence; Two Killed as Unrest Rocks West Karbi Anglong

A 25-year-old disabled man, Suraj Dey, was tragically killed during protests in Assam's West Karbi Anglong district when a mob set fire to a shop next to his home. He was unable to escape due to his physical condition.

A 25-year-old physically disabled man was burnt alive during violent protests in Assam’s West Karbi Anglong district on Tuesday after a mob allegedly set a shop on fire in the Kheroni area, sending shockwaves across the state. While police are yet to officially confirm the identity of the deceased, local residents identified him as Suraj Dey.
According to locals, the shop that was torched stood adjacent to Dey’s residence. He was reportedly inside the shop when the fire broke out. “The shop was right next to their house. Others managed to escape, but due to his physical condition, he could not move,” local residents told the media. His body was later recovered by the fire brigade.

The incident occurred amid escalating unrest linked to ongoing protests in the Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that two people lost their lives in the violence.

“I am closely monitoring the situation in West Karbi Anglong. It is deeply painful that two people lost their lives during today’s unrest,” Sarma posted on X.

Police sources said the second victim, Chingthi Timung, a local resident, succumbed to bullet injuries sustained during police firing earlier in the afternoon. He died while undergoing treatment in the evening.
The Chief Minister announced that additional security forces will be deployed in Kheroni on Wednesday to restore law and order. “We are in constant touch with all concerned to restore normalcy and resolve issues through dialogue,” Sarma said, expressing heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assuring government support.

DGP Speaks: Misinformation Fueled the Violence

Assam Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, reacting to the volatile situation, said a large crowd had been gathering in the area since Monday. He stated that he personally met and held discussions with the protesters to defuse tensions.
According to the DGP, on Monday night the protest leader was taken to Guwahati for a medical check-up after doctors felt his health was deteriorating due to a hunger strike. However, misinformation was spread that the leader had been arrested, which further inflamed the situation.

On Tuesday, protesters allegedly attempted to take control of a bridge. When police intervened, they came under attack. “Crude bombs and stones were hurled. I myself was attacked with bows and arrows,” Singh said.
The violence led to arson attacks on multiple shops, and 48 police personnel were injured during the clashes.
Singh emphasised that the government had been in continuous dialogue with the protesters and that the Chief Minister had already offered a date for talks, following which the hunger strike was withdrawn. Appealing for calm, the DGP said, “Violence will not yield any results. The government is ready to find a solution through dialogue. Violence benefits no one.”
He warned that police have video evidence and have identified those involved in the violence, adding that strict legal action will be taken against all responsible. What Drove Former IPS Officer Amar Singh Chahal to Attempt Suicide? Cyber Scam Revealed

Former IPS officer Amar Singh Chahal reportedly shot himself using his security guard's rifle, allegedly due to being defrauded of Rs 8.10 crore by cybercriminals posing as wealth management advisors.

Patiala: Former IPS officer Amar Singh Chahal allegedly shot himself on Monday using the rifle of his security guard. Police recovered a note at the scene in which Chahal reportedly claimed that he had been defrauded of Rs 8.10 crore by cybercriminals posing as wealth management advisors.
The former Punjab Inspector General of Police was rushed to a hospital with bullet injuries to his chest, Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma confirmed.

Chalal was one of the accused in the 2015 police firing cases related to anti-sacrilege protests in Faridkot.

In the 12-page note addressed to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, Chahal alleged that fraudsters operated through WhatsApp and Telegram groups under the name 'F-777 DBS Wealth Equity Research Group', falsely claiming links with the DBS Bank and its CEO.

"With great sorrow, pain and despair, I have to bring to your kind notice that I have been cheated by these cyber thugs posing as wealth equity advisors to the tune of Rs 8.10 crore," the note stated, adding, "I regret that I did not use due caution while parting with my money."
According to the note, the group lured investors by promising unusually high returns through stock trading, IPO allotments, OTC trades and so-called "quantitative funds".
They were claiming to be representing DBS Group, which, according to them, was authorised by the Government of India and SEBI to educate and help retail investors earn good money, it stated.

The note further claimed that fake dashboards were created to show inflated profits, gradually building confidence among investors and prompting them to deposit large sums.
It also stated that Chahal was repeatedly pressured to reinvest profits and later asked to pay hefty "service fees," "taxes," and additional charges to withdraw his money, amounting to several crores.

The former police officer stated that despite making all payments through bank transfers, withdrawals were never processed.

He alleged that the scam was highly organised, involving multiple bank accounts and individuals, and urged authorities to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) or hand over the case to a specialised central agency to trace the money trail.
"Since this is a very sophisticated scamster group, only a dedicated SIT can unearth the network and bring people to book. If your good self may find it proper, it could even be entrusted to CBI or a specialised cell of Punjab police," the note stated.
Expressing deep distress over financial ruin and emotional trauma, Chahal wrote that he felt devastated and ashamed, apologising to his family and colleagues.

"I am extremely sorry, sir, that apart from destroying my own family, I have brought the Punjab Police into question, whose own officer could not take care of the caution to be exercised," he wrote.
"Sir, I would be very grateful if any culprits are caught and recoveries affected, and some could be passed on to my family so that they are able to pay the persons from whom I borrowed money," the note, purportedly written by him, stated.
He maintained that, except for the alleged scammers, no one else was responsible for his decision. "Sir, while advising general people to be aware of the scamsters, I have myself fallen victim to their sophisticated method," he wrote.
Chahal also stated in the note that he used the rifle of his gunman as he did not have any weapon. Police said they are probing the firing incident and the alleged fraud, examining the note, bank transactions, and digital evidence.

Doctors said when Chahal was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound, his condition was extremely critical. He suffered massive blood loss. After stabilising the patient, a major surgery, which lasted approximately two-and-a-half to three hours, was conducted, said one of the doctors.

The bullet struck the chest and got lodged in the lungs, he said, adding the bullet was successfully removed during the operation. The doctor said Chahal will remain under observation at the hospital for the next 12 to 24 hours. It is difficult to say how much time it will take for him to recover, said the doctor.

Hindi-Marathi Row: What Scared Thane Teen Told His Father Before Hanging Himself

After reaching home, the teenager called his father and told him that he had been assaulted on a crowded local train for not speaking in Marathi.

After a Thane student died by suicide over a Hindi-Marathi row, which led to a fight in a local train near Mumbai, the 19-year-old's father revealed what happened just before he hanged himself at his home. The student's father, Jitendra Khaire, said that while speaking on the phone, his son kept mumbling, "They beat me up."
The incident happened when the teenager was going to college on a local train, but since he got so traumatised with the whole episode, he rushed out at the next stop, took another train and went home without attending classes.

After reaching home, he called his father and told him that he had been assaulted on a crowded local train for not speaking in Marathi when he asked a passenger to move forward in Hindi.

"Brother, please move forward, I am being pushed," he reportedly told a man in front of him in Hindi. A group turned to him, and one of the men slapped him hard.

"Don't you know how to speak Marathi? Are you ashamed to speak Marathi?" they allegedly asked him.

"My son left for college in the morning on a crowded train, where the usual pushing and shoving happened inside the compartment. He told me that he asked someone to move forward. He kept repeating that they told him, 'Are you ashamed of speaking in Marathi?'" Jitendra Khaire said.
"I asked him, 'Did they beat you a lot?' He said, 'Yes, Papa, there were many of them and they scared me badly. I was so frightened," Khaire quoted his son as saying on the phone.
A group of passengers on the train not only thrashed Arnab but also threatened him. Arnab was supposed to get off at Mulund, but he got off at Thane because he didn't want to escalate the fight, his father said.

Teenager Hangs Himself in His Room

The father, on returning home, found the door of his son's room closed. He tried to open it, but as there was no response, he later broke down the door with the help of neighbours and found his son hanging with a blanket around his neck, Kalyanji Gete, Assistant Commissioner of Police, told PTI.
Following the incident, the Kolsewadi police in Kalyan have filed an FIR and initiated an investigation.

UP Woman Strangled, Body Doused With Kerosene By Fiance, His Lover

The victim's fiance, his lover and the lover's mother have been arrested in this connection, they added.

Balrampur:
An 18-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death here, and the body was doused with kerosene and set on fire to destroy evidence, police said on Wednesday.

The victim's fiance, his lover and the lover's mother have been arrested in this connection, they added.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikas Kumar said the victim, Shalimunish, a resident of Laldeeh Hussainabad Grant area, was engaged a few months ago by Imran (22), a resident of Chhapia in neighbouring Gonda district.

During this period, Imran allegedly developed a relationship with another woman, Sakina, through social media. When Shalimunish came to know about the affair, she objected, which allegedly sparked the conspiracy to kill her, the SP said.

According to police, Sakina called Shalimunish to her house on Tuesday, where Imran was already present. The two allegedly strangled the victim to death.

To conceal the crime and make it appear as a case of suicide, Imran, Sakina and her mother Zainab allegedly poured kerosene on the body and set it on fire, the officer said.

The body has been sent for postmortem examination, police said, adding, a case under relevant provisions has been lodged at Rehra Bazar police station, and the three accused have been arrested.

'I Didn't Know He'd Commit Suicide': Woman Recalls Delhi Boy's Chilling Conversation Before Ending Life

A couple recounted a disturbing encounter with a Class 10 student who died by suicide after jumping from a metro station. The boy, visibly distressed, claimed he was being "tortured" at school.

New Delhi: A couple has come forward with what they describe as a crucial interaction with the Class 10 student who died by suicide after jumping off the Rajendra Place Metro Station on November 18, saying the boy appeared terrified and repeatedly alleged he was being "tortured" in school.
Deepshika Mishra, who encountered the student in an e-rickshaw shortly before the incident, said the boy was visibly distressed. "He was shaking and shivering," she said, adding that he was crying and asked her to withdraw her own son’s admission from the school. Mishra's son studies in Class 8 and attends the same school, St. Columba’s.

"When I intervened and asked him what happened, he said he was being tortured in school. He said the teachers keep asking him to bring his parents to school for every small incident. He asked me to get my son's name cut from the school. I didn't know he would commit suicide," she added.

(Delhi Teen Suicide CaseIf children are not safe in school, then where are they safe? My child was crying, but the teacher did not pay any attention...No child should go through such a phase: Deceased’s father speaks to)

Teachers' Behaviour in Question

Meanwhile, Deepshika's husband BN Mishra claimed the staff had a history of using harsh language with parents. "We were called to school because my son was late once, and we were abused when I asked them a question," he said.
"I was called many names. The teachers shouted at me, asking, 'How dare you question us? Do you think you have any authority to do so? I am a teacher at this school and can ruin your son's future.'"

School Staff Suspended
The school has suspended the headmaster and three teachers following public outrage on Friday, November 21. But parents and relatives of the teen gathered outside the school soon after, demanding stricter action and permanent removal of the accused staff members.
The boy's father has alleged that his son was repeatedly humiliated, harassed and threatened with cancellation of his admission.

19-Year-Old Bengaluru Girl Found Hanging in PG Room; Family Blames 'Harassment' By Ex-Student

A BBA student was found hanging in her PG in Bengaluru, causing panic in the area. According to her family, a former student from her college had been harassing her, which led to her to take the extreme step.

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a 19-year-old student in Bengaluru’s private college died allegedly by suicide at her paying guest (PG) accommodation on Friday morning, the police said. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the girl was harassed by a former student of the same college. Due to this, the girl allegedly hanged herself in his room. A complaint was filed at the Bagalur Police Station, Bengaluru.
The incident happened on Friday and has caused public anger, raising new concerns about the safety of young women both on and off college campuses. According to media reports, the incident came to light when her friends found the woman hanging in their rented home on Friday. The father of the deceased alleged that the accused used to stalk his daughter. “Her friends said that the accused even assaulted my daughter some time,” the father said.

Although Sana had mentioned his behaviour to her family a few times, she had not revealed how serious it was. He also said that when the matter was reported to the college, the authorities warned Reefan, but he continued to trouble and threaten Sana, the media report added. The father believes this ongoing harassment pushed his daughter to take her own life.

A senior officer from Begur Police Station said that officers are trying to find and detain the suspect, and the investigation is continuing.

A similar incident was reported from a prestigious engineering college in Bengaluru, where a 21-year-old student allegedly raped a female senior inside a men’s washroom on the campus earlier this month. At first, the survivor did not inform anyone about the incident except a couple of friends, fearing stigma and shame. However, she later told her parents about the incident, who encouraged her to file a complaint against the accused.

'Now You Will Know Me': Teacher Out for Walk Shot Dead inside Aligarh Muslim University Campus

An AMU teacher was shot multiple times by scooter-borne assailants during an evening walk near the campus library and later died at a hospital.

A School teacher at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was shot dead by unidentified assailants near the campus library on Wednesday night.
The victim has been identified as Rao Danish Ali, a teacher at the university’s ABK School. AMU Proctor Professor Mohd Wasim Ali told ANI that the incident occurred around 9 pm, when the university authorities received information about a shooting near the library premises.

“We were informed that a man had been shot and was being taken for treatment. The injured was identified as Rao Danish Ali. He was shot in the head and later died at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College,” the proctor said.

How did the shooting take place?

Ali, who had been teaching computer science at the ABK High School on the AMU campus for the past 11 years, was out on a walk with two colleagues when the attack took place, NDTV reported. According to the report, two men on a scooter stopped the group around 8.50 pm and threatened them with pistols and then opened fire on Ali.
As per reports, one of the assailants reportedly told Ali, “You don’t know me yet, now you will," before opening fire.

He was rushed to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Officials as per ANI said the exact number of shots fired remains unclear, with differing accounts suggesting between three and five rounds were discharged.

Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadon told ANI that two unidentified men opened fire on the teacher. Police teams rushed to the spot soon after the incident, and a search operation has been launched to trace the attackers, who managed to flee the scene. An investigation into the case is currently underway.

The killing comes even as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently claimed in the state assembly that law and order had significantly improved in the state. Addressing legislators, the chief minister said a secure environment had helped attract investments to Uttar Pradesh and asserted that the rule of law prevailed, with no communal riots taking place.
Police have not yet disclosed a motive behind the attack, and further details are awaited as the probe continues.

Karnataka man beats his pregnant daughter to death for marrying a Dalit man

A 20-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child died after her father allegedly assaulted her for marrying a Dalit man in Karnataka’s Hubballi taluk. Police have arrested three people, including the woman’s father.

A Lingayat man in Hubballi taluk is accused of beating his 20-year-old pregnant daughter to death for marrying a man from a Scheduled Caste community. The assault also left her husband’s parents injured.

The woman, identified as Manya Patil, succumbed to severe head injuries at a private hospital on Sunday, December 22. Her unborn child also did not survive. The attack took place at Inam Veerapura village under Hubballi Rural police limits.

According to Dharwad Superintendent of Police Gunjan Arya, Prakashgouda Patil and his relatives assaulted Manya at her husband’s residence using lethal weapons, including an axe and an iron sprinkler pipe.

The attack occurred around 6.30 pm, and she died roughly three hours later despite medical intervention. Her father-in-law and mother-in-law were also injured and are currently undergoing treatment.

Manya married Vivekananda, a man from the Madar caste and from the same village earlier this year. The two reportedly met as collegegoers and registered their marriage in Hubballi. The marriage had faced strong opposition from Manya’s family from the outset.

Following the wedding, police had intervened amid concerns over the couple’s safety and had summoned both families, warning them against harassment. Due to continued threats, Manya and her husband had moved out of the village and were living in Haveri. They returned to their native place on December 8, hoping that the pregnancy would help ease tensions and lead to reconciliation.

On Sunday, the accused allegedly first assaulted Vivekananda and his father while they were working in a field, before forcing their way into the house and attacking Manya and her in-laws. Manya’s father had previously assured the police that he would not interfere in the couple’s lives.

Senior police officials, including the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner, visited the hospital following the incident, and security has been tightened in both the village and the medical facility as a precautionary measure.

Police have arrested three people in connection with the case, including Manya’s father, Prakash Patil, and two relatives, Iranna and Arun. An FIR has been registered at the Hubballi Rural police station against 15 people. Investigation is underway.

Man shoots wife dead on busy Bengaluru road after she seeks divorce, surrenders to police

Bhuvaneshwari was an assistant manager at the Basaveshwaranagar branch of Union Bank of India. Her husband, Balamurugan used to work at Capgemini, a multinational IT company.

A woman was shot dead on a busy road in west Bengaluru on Tuesday, December 24, by her estranged husband, who later walked into Magadi Road police station and surrendered. The incident happened a week after she sent him a divorce notice.

The victim, Bhuvaneshwari, 39, was an assistant manager at the Basaveshwaranagar branch of Union Bank of India and lived in Rajajinagar with her two children. She was shot at close range by her husband, Balamurugan, 40, on 1st Main Road in the Rajajinagar Industrial Area around 6.30 pm.

Police said the accused fired four rounds at close range as she was returning home from work. He used to work at Capgemini, a multinational IT company.

Bhuvaneshwari sustained gunshot injuries to the head and hands. Passers-by and a Hoysala patrol rushed her to a private hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. The shooting triggered panic in the busy area, with commuters and pedestrians running for cover after hearing the gunshots.

Minutes after the incident, Balamurugan walked into the Magadi Road Police Station, confessed to the crime and surrendered. Police said the pistol used in the shooting has been seized and its source is being verified, including whether it was licensed.

The couple, natives of Salem district in Tamil Nadu, were married in 2011 and moved to Bengaluru in 2018 after Balamurugan joined a private software firm. They had been living separately for over a year following prolonged marital discord. While Bhuvaneshwari stayed with their two children, a 12-year-old son and an eight-year-old daughter, in Rajajinagar, Balamurugan was residing alone in KP Agrahara.

According to the police, the couple’s relationship had deteriorated amid frequent arguments, with the accused allegedly suspecting his wife of having another relationship.

Police said Bhuvaneshwari had taken a transfer from the Whitefield branch of the bank to Basaveshwaranagar about six months ago and had shifted to a new residence with her children. The accused later traced her address and moved closer to her neighbourhood a few months ago after quitting his job.

Police said Bhuvaneshwari had sought legal separation, which Balamurugan opposed, and had sent him a divorce notice about a week before the incident.

On Tuesday evening, police said, Balamurugan waited along Bhuvaneshwari’s route as she walked home from work and allegedly followed her before opening fire. He is currently in police custody, and further investigation is underway to determine how the weapon was sourced.

TN: Snakebite death reveals insurance fraud by sons in Tiruvallur

An investigation into the death was undertaken after the insurance company flagged suspicious behavior by the family.

A suspected snakebite in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district uncovered patricide when an investigation revealed a plot to murder for a Rs 3 crore insurance claim.

The victim, 56-year-old EP Ganesan, reportedly a lab assistant at a girls' high school in Pothaturpettai village in Tiruvallur, was found dead at his home on October 22 with what appeared to be a snakebite.

A police investigation into the death, based on irregularities flagged by the insurance company, led to the arrest of his two sons, Mohanraj and Hariharan, and four others after they allegedly released a venomous ‘Indian krait’ snake to kill him.

Mohanraj had initially filed a case of accidental death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to avail the insurance claim.

Based on a complaint given to the Inspector General of Police (North Zone), Asra Garg, by the insurance company, an eight-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed under Gummidipoondi DSP C Jaishree, according to a Deccan Herald report.

The investigation team found suspicious financial dealings by the family of the deceased, including loans that were disproportionate to their incomes. This led to the finding that the two sons had conspired to murder him.

The accused had reportedly enlisted the help of Balaji (28), Prashanth (35), Dinakaran (43) and Naveenkumar (27) to carry out their plot. A week earlier, they had attempted to kill him but had failed.

On October 22, the conspirators released the snake in the house, and it bit Ganeshan in the neck, after which it was killed. An inordinate delay in seeking medical help for the victim also raised suspicion against the family.

Call records of the accused and financial transactions were used by the police to uncover the conspiracy. All six accused have been arrested.

Family of migrant worker killed in Palakkad refuses to take body till compensation is given

The deceased migrant worker, Ram Narayan Baghel (40), from Karhi village in Chhattisgarh, was killed by a mob on December 17.

The family of the migrant worker who was killed in Palakkad’s Walayar demanded compensation of Rs 25 lakhs and stated they will accept the mortal remains only after receiving the money. Ram Narayan Baghel (40), from Karhi village in Chhattisgarh, was killed by a mob on December 17, falsely accusing him of theft. His family, including his wife, children, and brother, arrived in Kerala on Sunday, December 21.

Speaking with the media after reaching Palakkad, Ram Narayan’s brother said he was the only breadwinner in their family, and the government should ensure fair compensation.

“My brother has two young sons. They need at least Rs 25 lakh as compensation, and the Kerala government should provide this. We belong to a Scheduled community. Until we receive the compensation, we will not accept his body. He was the only earning member of the family. He leaves behind an elderly mother and small children. There will be no source of income for the family now,” he said.

Ram Narayan was killed by a group of local residents in the Attappallam area, accusing him of theft. Police later said that although he was intoxicated, there was no evidence that he had stolen anything. Currently, police have arrested five individuals connected with the crime.

Meanwhile, his autopsy report revealed the extent of the violence he had faced. He had more than 80 injuries on his body, including severe wounds to his head. Doctors noted extensive internal bleeding and concluded that he died due to assault and blood loss from head injuries.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) after the attack, Ram Narayan was taken to Palakkad District Government Hospital for treatment, and he later died while undergoing treatment. The FIR was registered under 103(1) (murder) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Telangana man beats wife to death amid dowry harassment, incident caught on CCTV

Paramesh (28) had married Anusha (22) eight months ago after being in a relationship for a while. After months of dowry harassment, he beat her to death outside his house in Tandur, Vikarabad on December 18.

In an appalling incident, a resident of Tandur in Telangana’s Vikarabad district beat his wife to death right outside their house, after weeks of harassing her for dowry. The couple, Paramesh (28) and Anusha (22), had been married for about eight months. Police said that Anusha started facing domestic violence and dowry harassment within two or three months after marrying Paramesh.

On December 15, Paramesh’s mother Lalamma chided Anusha for cooking what she felt was an excessive amount of rice, according to Tandur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Narsingh Yadaiah. The incident escalated with both Paramesh and Lalamma hitting and injuring Anusha. Paramesh’s father Mogilaiah then dropped Anusha at her maternal home nearby.

Three days later, on December 18, when Anusha’s family was taking her to the hospital, Paramesh stopped them and insisted that he would take her instead. Anusha’s mother told the media that she and her daughter resisted, but Paramesh took Anusha away by force.

“He took her to two hospitals, and both told him that they would have to treat it as a medico-legal case and involve the police. He then took her home and asked her to open the door. When she refused, they had an argument, and she flung the keys away. He then slapped her, kicked her, and then grabbed a stick and hit her on the head six times until she collapsed,” the DySP said.

Disturbing CCTV footage of the incident showed Anusha trying to walk away immediately after reaching Paramesh’s house on his bike. Paramesh was seen grabbing her and pushing her to sit on the porch. He then got increasingly aggressive, shoving her head against the door, slapping and kicking her, and finally hitting her with a stick. A woman passing by tried to stop Paramesh but he continued hitting Anusha till she collapsed. She was taken to a hospital but did not survive the assault.

Paramesh and Anusha had been in a relationship for a while, and got married in March with their families’ involvement. Anusha’s family even gave a dowry of Rs 1.11 lakh and a few other objects, according to the DySP.

However, within a couple of months, Paramesh and his family started harassing her for more dowry, the police said. “Paramesh’s family has about 10 acres of land and they are relatively well off. His mother kept saying they could’ve got more dowry if he had married someone else.” the DySP said.

Anusha’s mother told the media that when her daughter was initially injured on December 15, hospital authorities advised them to give a police complaint but she refused, thinking it would cause further trouble in the marriage.

Paramesh and his parents have been arrested by the Vikarabad police. Paramesh has been charged with murder, dowry death, and husband subjecting a woman to cruelty.

One-Sided Love That Killed: Woman Strangled, Body Hidden Under Car in Noida Horror

Killer arrested after police encounter in the Greater Noida Delta murder case, as investigators reveal the 27-year-old call centre worker was allegedly strangled to death due to one-sided love and her body hidden under a parked car.

The man accused of murdering a young call centre employee in Greater Noida has been arrested after a brief police encounter, bringing a crucial breakthrough in a case that has shaken the city.
Noida police on Monday arrested Ankit Prajapati, a resident of the Surajpur area, in connection with the killing of a 27-year-old woman whose body was found hidden beneath a parked car near a park in the Beta-2 area. The arrest followed a brief encounter in the jurisdiction of the Beta-2 police station, during which the accused sustained a gunshot injury to his leg. He has been admitted to hospital and remains under police custody.

The case came to light after a disturbing discovery early Monday morning. Residents walking near a park in the Beta-2 area noticed something suspicious under a stationary vehicle. On closer inspection, they found a woman’s body lying beneath the car and immediately alerted the police. Officers rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

The girl, originally from Mahoba district in Uttar Pradesh, lived in a flat in Beta-2 with her younger brother and worked at a private call centre in Noida’s Sector 60. She was the eldest of three siblings and the sole earning member of her family. With both parents no longer alive, she had taken on the responsibility of supporting her brothers. One of them, a student, lived with her in Greater Noida, while the other is employed in Jaipur. Neighbours described her as hardworking and committed, often working long hours to support her family.

According to police, Deepa stepped out of her house on Sunday morning for work but did not return. Her phone was switched off, which worried her younger brother. When she failed to come back home that night and could not be contacted, he approached the police to report her missing.

The 'One-Sided' Lover

Investigators said that on Sunday evening, Deepa was walking from Delta Metro Station towards Beta-2 when she reached a dark stretch near a park. It was there that Ankit allegedly strangled her to death. He then hid her body under a car parked close to the park before fleeing the area.
Police said the murder was allegedly the result of a conspiracy driven by one-sided love. Preliminary questioning revealed that the accused and the victim had been friends a few years ago but later parted ways. Unable to get over her, the accused came to talk to her on Sunday, however when he victim refused to agree he killed her.

Firozabad ‘Drum’ Murder: Husband Kills Wife Over Dispute, Body Found Dismembered Inside Home - Chilling Details

A man has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad for allegedly killing his wife after a domestic dispute and hiding parts of her body inside a drum, triggering a police investigation.

Lucknow: A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district, where a man allegedly killed his wife following a minor domestic dispute and then attempted to conceal the crime inside their home.
Investigators said the incident came to light after information about a suspected murder was received, prompting police to rush to the spot. What officers found inside the house pointed to a chilling attempt to hide the killing.

Killed and Cut

The woman’s body was discovered lying on a cot, while her severed head had been concealed inside a drum kept in the premises.

The scene was immediately sealed, and a forensic team was called in to document and collect evidence. According to police, the accused has been identified as Ashutosh.

Police officials said the accused not only killed his wife but also dismembered her body in an effort to conceal the crime. An FIR was registered against Ashutosh and three other individuals as part of the investigation, indicating that police are examining whether others may have played a role or had prior knowledge of the incident.
The main accused has been arrested, and authorities say the probe is ongoing to establish the exact motive behind the murder and the sequence of events leading up to it.

Firozabad Circle Officer Animesh Singh said that all evidence has been collected from the crime scene by the forensic team and the victim’s family has been informed, adding that an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of law. He also disclosed a troubling detail about the family background, stating that the victim’s 20-year-old son is currently lodged in a Delhi jail in connection with a theft case.
The case reminded of the similar Meerut “Blue drum murder case”, where a former merchant navy officer, Saurabh Rajput, was allegedly murdered by his wife, Muskan Rastogi, and her lover, Sahil Shukla. The victim's dismembered body was found sealed in a blue plastic drum filled with cement in their home

'White Drum Murder': Ragpicker Finds Severed Head, 5 Body Parts in Ludhiana; Chilling Details Emerge

Davinder was murdered and dismembered by his friend Shera and his wife in Ludhiana. CCTV caught the couple transporting body parts in a drum.

In a bone-chilling incident, ragpickers found a severed head inside a white-coloured drum at a vacant plot near Jalandhar Bypass in Ludhiana, Punjab. When police reached the spot, they discovered five other body parts scattered within a 500-metre radius of the drum. The body was later identified as that of a man from Bhora village, according to a media report.
During the investigation into the Ludhiana murder, police reviewed several CCTV footage clips and allegedly found the involvement of the victim’s friend and his wife in the murder. A case has been registered against the accused couple, and police said the motive behind the crime would become clear after their arrest, reported The Times of India.

What Happened?

Davinder, who was involved in digital printing work in Mumbai, arrived in Ludhiana on January 6 at around 2:15 pm. After reaching home, he informed his family that he was going to visit a friend in the same locality and left. When he did not return on time, the family grew concerned and began searching for him. Unable to locate him, they later filed a missing report at the Salem Tabri Police Station.

Meanwhile, on Thursday morning, ragpickers found the white drum that reportedly contained Davinder’s dismembered head. Police rushed to the spot and uncovered more shocking details of the crime.
“The man’s head was stuffed inside a white-coloured drum, while five other body parts—both arms, legs and parts of the abdomen—were found scattered separately within a distance of 500 metres. There were burn marks on the limbs, indicating that the accused may have tried to burn the body; however, the burn injuries were not deep,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP-I) Sameer Verma.

Had Gone to a Friend’s House, But…

Police confirmed that the victim had gone to the house of his friend, Shamsher Singh alias Shera, but never came out. They added that CCTV footage showed Shera and his wife, Kuldeep Kaur, stepping out of their house with a white drum, riding away on a bike.
"Footage of CCTV camera installed near Shera's house captured him and his wife taking the drum in which the head was found, on their bike. A murder case was registered against Shamsher Singh Shera and his wife Kuldeep Kaur. The motive behind the murder would be ascertained after the arrest of the accused," said the ADCP.

Davinder is survived by his wife and 7-month-old daughter.

Family Called Friend, Who Lied to Them

Davinder’s cousin Hemraj told The Times of India that the family believed Davinder had gone to meet his close friend Shera on the day he went missing. To find out more, they called Shera and asked if he had seen Davinder. Shera told them that Davinder had come to his house to borrow his bike, but he refused to lend it. According to Shera, Davinder stayed for a few minutes and then left. At first, the family trusted Shera’s version of events.
However, later they decided to verify his claims. When they went to Shera’s house, they found it locked. They then checked CCTV footage from cameras installed near the house. The footage showed Davinder entering Shera’s house around 2:45 pm, but he was never seen coming out.

Accused Couple Took Several Suspicious Bike Rides After Midnight

Hemraj further said that the CCTV footage showed something suspicious later that night. Around midnight, Shera and his wife were seen carrying a white drum out of the house. After a few minutes, they returned without the drum. After this, they were seen making two to three trips on a bike.
Speaking about the possible motive behind the crime, Hemraj said that Shera worked as a carpenter but was also allegedly involved in drug peddling. Davinder would sometimes consume drugs as well. Hemraj suggested that there could have been a dispute between them related to drugs or money. He added that the exact reason would become clear only after the police arrest the accused and complete their investigation.

UP woman kills husband with lover's help, chops body using 'wood grinder'

Ruby had filed a missing person complaint on November 18, stating that her husband Rahul (38) had not returned home.

A woman and her alleged lover have been arrested for the murder of her husband and for dismembering his body, reportedly using a wood grinder, in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district, police said on Monday.

According to police, Ruby, a resident of Mohalla Chunni in the Chandousi area, had filed a missing person complaint on November 18, stating that her husband Rahul (38) had not returned home, news agency PTI reported.

Nearly a month later, on December 15, police recovered a mutilated body from a drain near the Eidgah area. The body was missing the head, hands and legs, prompting an intensive investigation.

“The body was taken into custody, and a post-mortem was conducted,” Superintendent of Police KK Bishnoi said, adding that “the forensic team carried out a detailed examination, and DNA samples were collected.”

The report further added that the investigators found the name “Rahul” written on the body.

Meanwhile, a review of missing person complaints across nearby police stations, coupled with technical analysis, showed that Rahul’s mobile phone had been switched off since November 18, the officer said.

Wife confesses, details murder plot

As the probe progressed, police began to suspect Ruby’s role in the killing. During questioning, she allegedly confessed to murdering her husband with the help of her lover, Gaurav, after Rahul caught them in an illicit relationship, the SP said.
“The accused told police that they attacked Rahul with an iron rod and an iron pestle, killing him on the spot,” Bishnoi said. “They then brought a grinder and cut the body into parts.”

Police said one part of the body was dumped in the drain from where it was later recovered, while the remaining parts were taken to Rajghat and thrown into the Ganga river.

Investigators have recovered the grinder allegedly used to dismember the body, along with an iron hammer and other tools believed to have been used in the assault, PTI report said.

DNA samples of the deceased have been preserved and will be matched with those of his children to conclusively establish identity and strengthen the case, the SP said.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is underway, police added.

Dehradun Horror: 24-Year-Old Tripura Student Dies After Racial Taunts of ‘Chinese’ and Violent Assault; Police Nab Five, Hunt Sixth

The tragedy began on the evening of December 9 in the Selaqui area of Dehradun, where Angel and his brother, Michel, were targeted by a group of six intoxicated men who hurled racial slurs at them while they were grocery shopping.

New Delhi: A young MBA student from Tripura died after battling for his life for nearly two weeks following a violent racial attack in Dehradun. Anjel (Angel) Chakma, 24, an MBA final-year student at Jigyasa University, was stabbed multiple times on December 9, 2025, when he and his younger brother, Michael Chakma, a student at Uttaranchal University, protested against racial slurs hurled at them.
The incident occurred between 6 and 7 pm in Selakui, when the brothers went out to buy groceries. According to eyewitnesses and statements from local students, a group of intoxicated men began mocking the brothers based on their appearance.

They shouted slurs such as “Nepali,” “Chinese,” “Chinki,” and “momos”, along with local abuses. When Anjel and Michael objected, the verbal taunts quickly turned into violence.
According to local media reports, Michael was struck on the head with a metal bangle, while Anjel was stabbed in the neck and stomach with sharp weapons. The attackers also threatened to kill both brothers.

Anjel was rushed to Graphic Era Hospital in Dehradun, where he was admitted to the ICU. Despite weeks of treatment, he succumbed to his injuries at around 4 am on December 24.
His father, a Border Security Force (BSF) head constable posted in the Northeast, claimed his body and took it back to Tripura for the final rites.

Police Response

Considering the seriousness of the crime, a special police team was formed at the Selakui Police Station under the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Dehradun. The team activated informer networks, conducted surveillance, and raided multiple locations. On December 14, acting on a tip-off, police arrested five accused from the Selakui area.

Arrested Accused

1. Avinash Negi, 25, resident of Shankarpur, Sahaspur
2. Shaurya Rajput, 18, resident of Dhulkote, Prem Nagar
3. Suraj Khawas, 18, originally from Manipur, residing in Nayagaon Pelio, Patel Nagar
4. Sumit, 25, resident of Tilwari, Dehradun
5. Ayush Badoni, 18, resident of Bai Khal, Selakui
A sixth suspect, a Nepali national, fled across the border before police could detain him.

Outrage and Fear

Michael Chakma, who survived the attack, has expressed fear for his safety, saying the accused are “influential persons” who had threatened them earlier. Local students also claim the perpetrators belong to powerful families.
The death of Anjel Chakma has sparked anger and grief across the Northeast, once again exposing the racial prejudice faced by students from the region in other parts of India. Police have now added murder charges against the accused, while the hunt continues for the absconding suspect.

Student Killed For Objecting To Racial Slurs In Dehradun, Body Brought Back To Tripura

Anjel Chakma, a final-year MBA student at Jigyasa University in Dehradun, had been fighting for his life for weeks in a hospital after sustaining critical injuries in a violent assault earlier this month.

Tripura was engulfed in grief and anger on Saturday as the body of a young tribal student, who died after being brutally attacked in Uttarakhand's Dehradun district, was brought back to the state.

Anjel Chakma, a final-year MBA student at Jigyasa University in Dehradun, had been fighting for his life for weeks in a hospital after sustaining critical injuries in a violent assault earlier this month.

The incident took place on December 9 between 6 pm and 7 pm in Dehradun's Selaqui area, when Anjel and his younger brother, Michael Chakma, a student of Uttaranchal University, stepped out to buy groceries.

Reports said that a group of unidentified youths, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, targeted the brothers with racial abuse linked to their physical appearance. The attackers allegedly used slurs along with other local insults. When the brothers objected to the derogatory remarks, the situation quickly escalated into violence.

During the attack, Michael was allegedly struck on the head, while Anjel was stabbed in the neck and abdomen. He was rushed to the intensive care unit of a local hospital, where he remained under treatment before dying due to his injuries on Friday.

Anjel's body was flown to Agartala via Delhi on Saturday. Family members, along with leaders of the Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) and the Tribal Indigenous Students' Federation (TISF), received the body at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport.

The body was later taken to his residence at Nandanagar, where a large number of people gathered to pay their last respects. Subsequently, the body was taken to his native village in Unakoti district for the final rites.

The tragic incident has sparked strong reactions, with the victim's family and several student organisations demanding stringent punishment for those responsible.

They also appealed to the Central Government to take firm steps to address what they described as the persistent problem of racial discrimination against youths from the North-Eastern region in different parts of the country.

Tamil Nadu Man Kills Wife; Body Found in Drum After Sons Say They Hadn’t Seen Her for 2 Months

A man in Tamil Nadu confessed to strangling his wife over suspicions of extramarital affairs, hiding her body in a drum and burying it. Police launched a murder investigation following a missing person report.

Chennai News: A 30-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and stuffed her body into a drum in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu, police said on Wednesday, reported news agency PTI. He later buried the body about 3 km from their home in a burial ground. The case came to light when the deceased’s father realised his daughter was missing. Her grandchildren told him they had not seen their mother for two months. He then filed a missing person complaint with the police, prompting an investigation.
During the probe, police grew suspicious of the husband, Silambarasan, as he kept changing his story. He eventually confessed to strangling his wife to death on August 14, reportedly over suspicions of her having multiple extramarital affairs. Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Shukla said, “He confessed to strangling her and disposing of the body about 3 km from their house.” He added, “Our investigation revealed the couple frequently fought due to his suspicions.”

Priya’s father, Srinivasan, had filed the missing complaint with Arambakkam Police after failing to contact his daughter. “He suspected something was wrong,” said the SP. Before disappearing, Priya had visited her parents in Pudupalayam near Arani and expressed a desire to separate from her husband. However, her family persuaded her to return.

“When we questioned Silambarasan, his inconsistent statements raised suspicion, leading to a deeper investigation and his eventual confession,” said the SP. A murder case has been filed, and Silambarasan has been remanded for 15 days. “We have established a prima facie motive — suspicion over extramarital affairs. The body has undergone post-mortem, and we await results to tie up loose ends. We are also exploring other possibilities,” added Shukla.

A tragic incident involving three families in Karnataka and Maharashtra began with a 26-year-old woman’s suicide in Bengaluru, allegedly due to harassment from her husband and in-laws. Protests erupted after her death, prompting police to register a case.

Bengaluru: A tragic sequence of events spanning Karnataka and Maharashtra has left three families shattered, beginning with the death of a 26-year-old woman in Bengaluru, allegedly driven to suicide by harassment from her husband and in-laws, and culminating in her husband’s death and his mother’s suicide attempt in Nagpur.
According to a TIE report, the woman died by suicide on Thursday, with police sources indicating that she had faced sustained rejection and mistreatment from her husband’s family. Her death triggered protests outside her husband’s residence in Bengaluru, where her parents and relatives demanded immediate arrests, alleging that relentless harassment pushed her to take the extreme step.

Following the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the woman’s death, her husband allegedly fled Bengaluru along with his mother and brother, heading to Nagpur. The move came amid mounting pressure and public outrage over the allegations.

The situation escalated dramatically on Friday when the husband died by suicide in Nagpur, police said. Hours later, his mother attempted to end her life at a relative’s home. She was rescued in time and remains hospitalised in critical condition, officials confirmed.

‘He Couldn’t Have Lived After Her Death,’ Says Mother

Reacting to the developments, the deceased woman’s mother expressed a mix of grief and anguish, saying, “They realised their mistakes. My daughter showed him so much love; he couldn’t have lived after her death.”, as per the report. The couple had recently married in a lavish ceremony in Bengaluru. However, trouble reportedly began during their honeymoon in Sri Lanka, where disputes erupted after the husband allegedly learnt about the woman’s past relationship. The arguments forced the couple to cut short their trip and return to India on December 21.
After returning home, the woman allegedly continued to face humiliation from her in-laws. Relatives claimed she resisted divorce despite the strain, citing concerns over family honour and social pressure.
Police in both Karnataka and Maharashtra are investigating the case, examining the circumstances that led to the woman’s death, the subsequent suicide of her husband, and the attempted suicide of his mother. Police said further action will be based on the findings of the ongoing probes.

Kanpur Man, 22, Murders Wife Before Surrendering To Cops In UP

The man, identified as Sachin, 22, admitted that after committing the murder, he wandered the city for four hours and even considered running away.

Kanpur:
Commotion broke out at the Maharajpur police station in Kanpur on Saturday morning when a young man walked in crying and told the inspector, "Sir... I have strangled my wife. Her body is lying at home wrapped in a blanket."

The man, identified as Sachin, 22, admitted that after committing the murder, he wandered the city for four hours and even considered running away before ultimately deciding to turn himself in. Police took him into custody and rushed to the crime scene, where they recovered the body of his wife, Shweta.

Sachin and Shweta were originally from Mohanpur village in the Fatehpur district. The couple had a court marriage against their families' wishes and initially moved to Surat, where Sachin worked in a factory. A month later, they moved to Kanpur and rented a room, where Sachin began driving an auto-rickshaw to make a living.

However, the relationship was reportedly strained by suspicion. During questioning, Sachin revealed that he had begun doubting Shweta's character. He questioned money frequently being deposited into her account, which she claimed was from her grandmother, and grew suspicious of the students living across from their home.

On Friday, Sachin devised a plan to test his suspicions. He called his wife and lied, saying he was at a party with friends and would not be home that night. When he returned unexpectedly, he allegedly found the room open and his wife with two young men from the neighbourhood.

An argument followed, prompting neighbours to call the emergency helpline (112). Police arrived at the scene and took everyone to the station. After the young men claimed they were sitting there, officers counselled the couple and sent them home, advising them to resolve their issues.

Once back at the house, the argument escalated further. Sachin claimed that Shweta threatened him, stating she would stay with the other men even if he killed her. In a fit of rage, Sachin strangled her to death.

Following the murder, Sachin fled to the Clock Tower (Ghantaghar) area and sat there for several hours. "I thought about how we had no one else, we eloped and got married for each other," he told the police. "Now she has no one, and neither do I. So I went to the police station and surrendered," he added.

The police have sent Shweta's body for a post-mortem examination.

Chennai’s Infamous Serial Killer Whose Obsession With Cabaret Dancer Led to His Downfall: AI Reimagines Auto Shankar’s Story

An AI-led visual reconstruction revisits the story of Auto Shankar, Chennai’s most feared serial killer of the 1980s.

Periyar Nagar: The Fortress Behind the Facade

Auto Shankar’s criminal empire was rooted in Periyar Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, a modest neighbourhood hidden just off Chennai’s busy IT corridor. While the rest of the city viewed him as a feared murderer, locals remembered him as a familiar, helpful figure who lived among them. His house became both a family home and a nerve centre for illegal operations, earning the area the reputation of being his “kottai” or stronghold. Even after his execution in 1995, his family continued to live there, reinforcing his enduring presence in local memory.

From Auto Driver to Illicit Liquor Smuggler

Before notoriety, Shankar was an autorickshaw driver navigating the poorly connected coastal villages between Thiruvanmiyur and Mahabalipuram. These hamlets doubled as hubs for illicit liquor distillation and toddy brewing, with palm trees lining broken roads. Shankar used his auto — and later fast bikes — to smuggle hooch into the city, slowly building contacts, muscle, and confidence. This phase marked his transition from survival crime to organised illegality.

While ferrying women between Madras and Mahabalipuram, Shankar was exposed to the thriving sex work circuit catering to tourists and elites. He soon learned the trade’s inner workings and established his own brothels — one operating from a lodge on LB Road, another from huts inside Periyar Nagar. His clientele reportedly included police officers and politicians, allowing him to expand with near-impunity. Money, influence and protection followed.

Violence as Control: Murders and Buried Secrets

Shankar’s gang enforced dominance through extreme brutality. At least three men were killed following disputes over women from his brothels. Bodies were buried in vacant land or sealed inside walls — later recovered by police. Violence became a tool to maintain fear and loyalty, signalling that crossing him meant disappearance. This phase marked his evolution from criminal operator to serial killer.

Lalitha and the Murders That Exposed Him

Shankar’s downfall began with Lalitha, a cabaret dancer at Pals near Mount Road, whom he became obsessed with. When she eloped with his friend Sudalaimuthu, Shankar had both brought back and murdered. Lalitha was buried in Periyar Nagar; Sudalaimuthu was burnt and his ashes scattered in the Bay of Bengal. These killings led police to uncover a larger pattern — including the mysterious disappearance of nine young girls, believed to have been exploited and killed.

A Class 10 student in Greater Noida allegedly died by suicide after being questioned over suspected AI use in exams; police are probing harassment claims against school authorities.'School Questioned is She Used AI for Exam': Greater Noida Girl, 16, Dies After AI Cheating Allegation; Family Alleges Mental Harassment

Noida: A 16-year-old Class 10 student allegedly died by suicide after being questioned by her school authorities over the suspected use of AI-based assistance during a pre-board examination, police said on Saturday (December 27). The incident occurred on December 23 in Greater Noida West, Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, the student was confronted by teachers and the school principal after her mobile phone was allegedly found being used to access AI tools during the exam.
The girl’s father has filed a complaint accusing the principal and teachers of mental harassment and abetment, alleging she was humiliated publicly, causing severe emotional distress. The school denied the allegations, stating the phone was confiscated and the student was reprimanded strictly in line with CBSE examination rules. The principal said the interaction was brief and non-abusive.

Police confirmed that CCTV footage has been submitted by the school and the matter is under investigation.

Meanwhile, a Times of India report added that the father alleged that his daughter was deeply distressed after being scolded by her teachers for bringing her mobile phone to the exam hall on December 22. According to the father, he has three daughters who all study at the same school. He said his eldest daughter had unknowingly” brought her phone to school on the day of the exam. The invigilator caught her with the phone, reprimanded her, and informed her class teacher. She was then taken to the principal.

The father alleged that even after he arrived at the school, the teachers and principal continued to scold and insult his daughter harshly. He claimed that the teachers called him “careless” and that their aggressive behaviour had a serious psychological impact on his daughter. He said the incident had also left his other two daughters traumatised and afraid to return to school.

In his complaint, the father named two teachers, and the school management. He asked the police to register a case under Section 108 of the BNS (abetment of suicide) and other relevant laws.
The school, however, has strongly denied the allegations. The principal told TOI that the student was not harassed and that the school followed the standard protocols prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). She added that the child did not cry or show signs of distress at the time. The school also has CCTV footage of the entire incident, which has been handed over to the police.

The principal further said that the school encourages students to manage academic stress through activities like dance performances, and highlighted that the girl had recently participated in the school’s annual day event.
The police are currently investigating the matter, taking statements from the family, school authorities, and other witnesses, and reviewing all available evidence, including CCTV footage.

Bengaluru Man Flees After Wife's Suicide Triggers Nightmare, Kills Self in Nagpur Hotel

A 30-year-old man from Vijayanagar, Bengaluru, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a hotel in Nagpur, Maharashtra after dowry allegations from his in-laws. This comes two days after his wife died by suicide.

Bengaluru: An estranged marriage in Bengaluru ended tragically following dowry allegations, mental harassment, and two deaths. A 30-year-old man hanged himself in a hotel room in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on Saturday, two days after his wife died by suicide at her father’s house. Upon discovering her son hanging, the deceased’s mother attempted to take her own life but failed, reported The Times of India. She raised an alarm in the hotel, which alerted his elder brother, the staff, and the police. The couple had recently returned from their honeymoon in Sri Lanka.

Suraj Shivanna, the deceased, had fled Bengaluru after his wife’s family levelled dowry accusations against him. He was accompanied by his mother, Jayanthi, and elder brother, Sanjay. The family travelled from Bengaluru to Nagpur, with a brief stopover in Hyderabad, and booked two hotel rooms on Friday. Around 12:30 am on Saturday, 50-year-old Jayanthi saw her son hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf. Shocked, she tried to take her own life. When her attempt failed, she immediately called Sanjay, who rushed him to AIIMS, Nagpur, where doctors confirmed his death around 3 am.

Threats from Wife's Family

Sanjay filed a police complaint, alleging that Suraj’s in-laws had issued life-threatening warnings following Ganavi’s suicide. “Around 30 people stormed our house in Vijayanagar searching for Suraj, who was named in an FIR for dowry harassment. We were traumatised and feared for our lives. We had no option but to escape Bengaluru,” Sanjay said, the media report added.

Suraj had married Ganavi, an MBA graduate, in an arranged ceremony in Bengaluru on October 29. Family sources said the wedding was lavish, but Ganavi was reportedly reluctant and pressured into the marriage by her aunt.
After the wedding, the couple went on a 10-day honeymoon to Sri Lanka, but the trip turned sour within a few days. Arguments broke out after Ganavi’s pre-marital friendships came to light, and she expressed disinterest in the marriage, escalating the rift. The couple returned to Bengaluru after five days, landing on a Monday.

Upon their return, family members, including Sanjay, tried to mediate between them, but their efforts failed. “I tried to broker peace and assured the couple the matter would be sorted soon, but they didn’t listen,” Sanjay told sources. That night, Ganavi returned to her father’s home and, tragically, hanged herself just hours later.
Her death triggered a backlash from her family, who accused Suraj and his relatives of torturing her over dowry. Bengaluru police acted swiftly against the Shivanna family following the allegations, registering a case that increased pressure on them.
Sanjay strongly denied the dowry claims in an interview with TOI. “We did not make any demands. We covered all wedding expenses. It is shocking that they are making these allegations. In fact, Ganavi’s family had started issuing death threats to us. My brother was scared and apologetic,” he said, referring to a visit from the in-laws to their Bengaluru home on December 22.
Suraj’s autopsy report is awaited to rule out foul play, while police in Nagpur and Bengaluru are coordinating investigations into the case.

A first-year computer science student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar was found hanging in his hostel room in the Mancheshwar area. The deceased student has been identified as 18-year-old Rahul Yadav, a resident of Chhattisgarh.
The Infocity police have suspected it to be a case of suicide and have launched an investigation into the matter. "His body was found hanging in the hostel room," Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sonal Singh Parmar told reporters.

There has been no official statement from the KIIT University administration regarding this matter.

The ACP said that the incident had taken place on Sunday, and the body was recovered by the personnel of Infocity Police Station. The family members of the deceased student have been informed, the ACP told PTI news agency.

The body was taken to KIMS Hospital, where the attending doctors declared Yadav dead. An unnatural death case has been registered at Infocity Police Station, the statement said.

Notably, this is not the first such case at KIIT University. Earlier, Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B Tech student from Nepal, was found dead in her dormitory room on February 16 this year, sparking widespread protests and demands for justice. Later in May, another female student was found dead on campus.
In recent years, several other students associated with KIIT University have died under similar suspicious circumstances, making this case even more serious.
The police are investigating the matter from every angle to find out the truth.
BJP MLA Saroj Padhi expressed concern over the frequent "student suicide cases" in KIIT. "We will place a demand before the chief minister to take stringent action against those responsible for the death of the students in KIIT," Padhi told reporters.

Mumbai: 21-year-old man jumps to death from 21st floor after family clash

Mumbai: Haider, a Wadala resident battling alcohol addiction- a vice strictly forbidden in his faith- often clashed with his family over his habit. Early Sunday, he stormed out after a fierce argument with his parents, only to be located in an intoxicated state hours later.

Mumbai:
A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Mumbai's Wadala area when 21-year-old Haider Karachiwala took his own life by jumping from the 21st floor of a highrise on Sunday (January 25). Police investigations point to ongoing family tensions fueled by his alcohol addiction, culminating in a fatal argument with his parents. The young man's desperate act has left the community reeling, highlighting the perils of substance abuse and mental health struggles.

Escalating family dispute

Haider, a resident of Wadala, had a history of alcohol dependency, which frequently sparked conflicts at home given its prohibition in their faith. In the early hours of Sunday, he stormed out after a heated exchange with his parents, only to be found intoxicated later.

Vile Parle police contacted his father, Yusuf Karachiwala, around 4 am, urging him to retrieve his son. Yusuf brought Haider back home by 6 am, hoping for a calm resolution.

Failed counselling and tragic impulse

Once home, Haider's parents attempted to counsel him on quitting alcohol, emphasising its religious taboo. Overwhelmed, he retreated to his room, where the situation took a devastating turn. At approximately 8:15 am, Yusuf discovered Haider had jumped from his room's window. Neighbours and family rushed to the scene in panic.

Desperate rescue and heartbreaking end

Police aided in swiftly transporting the critically injured Haider to a nearby hospital. Despite urgent efforts, doctors declared him dead on arrival, unable to overcome the severe injuries from the fall.

Police response and ongoing probe

Wadala TT police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) based on initial findings, ruling out foul play for now. A thorough investigation continues to uncover any additional factors, with authorities offering condolences to the grieving family.

'Sorry everyone': Final-year BTech student dies by suicide at IIT Kanpur

The student, Jai Singh Meena, a native of Ajmer in Rajasthan, was enrolled in the Biological Sciences and Bioengineering programme.

Kanpur:
A final-year B Tech student of IIT Kanpur was found dead in his hostel room on Monday, police said. The 26-year-old student has been identified as Jai Singh Meena, a native of Ajmer in Rajasthan. He was enrolled in the Biological Sciences and Bioengineering programme and was staying in Room No 148 of E-Block at the campus hostel.

According to police, Meena was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a bedsheet. Preliminary examination suggests he may have cut his wrists before hanging himself.

Suicide note recovered from his room

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalyanpur) Ashutosh Kumar said that a handwritten note bearing the words "Sorry Everyone" was recovered from the hostel room.

The incident came to light after Meena did not respond to repeated phone calls from his family. Alarmed, relatives contacted one of his friends, who was away on vacation, and later informed other hostel residents. When there was no response despite repeated knocks on the door, students peeped through a window and found him hanging inside the room.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur administration immediately alerted the Kalyanpur police. The police broke open the door and recovered the body, following which a forensic team examined the room and collected evidence.

Preliminary investigation suggests suicide

ACP Kumar said a handwritten note was found at the scene, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. "Preliminary investigation suggests it is a case of suicide. All angles are being thoroughly probed and further legal action will be taken based on the findings," he said.

The IIT Kanpur administration said Meena had joined the institute in July 2020 and described him as a bright and promising student. The campus is currently observing winter vacation, which began on December 28, and Meena was reportedly planning to return home.

Family members are expected to reach Kanpur on Tuesday, after which further formalities will be completed. The incident has left the campus in shock, with the institute expressing deep condolences to the bereaved family.
