Australia Test opener Matthew Wade and India wicket keeper Rishabh Pant have been locked in a verbal battle almost as entertaining as the contest unfolding at the MCG on a lively Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test.

As the 16th over neared its end, Wade could be heard taunting Pant about his weight, saying, “You’re 25 kilos overweight. Are you 20 kilos, 25 or 30 kilos overweight?”

While Wade would continue to be pushed by India’s bowling attack, Pant continued to chortle and encourage his teammates with his trademark vigour, which seemed to have irked Wade by the 24th over.

“You’re looking at yourself on the big screen again? Very funny watching yourself on the screen,” Wade chimed to Pant after one delivery.

Later, as Pant spurred on Ravichandran Ashwin on the final ball of the session, a leave from Wade saw he and Pant come face-to-face, ending one instalment of a battle that had fans entertained.

“He just laughs all the time. He doesn’t really say much, he’s just always laughing at you,” Wade told Fox Cricket as he was walking off the ground.

“I don’t know what’s so funny, it must be my batting.”

My bad. I didn't see the entire season. I was changing channels in between.

This. When Aussies say that they don't understand what Indian players are saying and hence aren't affected by that, don't know how much should we believe that. Bhajji had entire Australian team calling him names with Hayden calling him obnoxious little weed and had several run ins with him as did Symonds and Ponting.

Today as well, Wade was clearly rattled by Pant's chirping and in the end succumbed to it. Why would Pant care if Wade got what he had to say? Pant's mission was accomplished.

When you sledge, language doesn't matter, even a non stop chit chat like Pant does gets on your nerves.

I think you have to just to get the context of what someone is saying to understand it. Remember Warner getting riled up when Sharma abused him in Hindi? IMO, Pant should continue chatting in Hindi and throw up Wade’s name in between. Regarding his keeping, when Dhoni came he was a avg keeper and the same lobby was heard lobbying for everyone from Parthiv Patel to Ratra etc etc on basis of keeping skills. Dhoni was persisted with and he improved to become one of the greatest keeper Batsman the game has seen.
