That little half push on the leg side off of Rabada is enough to prove his class as a batsman impeccable timing

I think he plays Off-spin well.+1 I don't think his spin game is on point just getting by atm
virat kohli , joe root , williamson and smith , apl are better against spin than babar.
Opportunity for Babar now to play a good innings and show the world that he is worth the hype.
He will never reach the heights of Gill or KL rahul even if he plays a good innings here

He is being compared with the likes of Virat, Smith, Root and Williamson, people here think he will be the best batsman ever to come out of Pakistan, meaning better than Inzamam, Mohammed Yousuf, Younus Khan, Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad, Hanif Mohammed, Saeed Anwar, etc... So it's quite normal for me to expect he will play match winning and top class knocks more often that not.
Babar has demonstrated the habit of getting out early the next morning.
Babar has demonstrated the habit of getting out early the next morning.
The highlights only showed his usual, sumptuous, shots mostly.
How did he fare against spin overall though? Was he getting beaten often? Leading edges? What about his defence - was he able to smother the turn by blocking it at the bounce? Any close appeals?
There are clips on YT of him practising specific drills with YK, but he did not seem to be in full control of all his shots in those.
Too good a player to be kept quiet for long by anyone. But looks like there are tougher examinations against spin still to be had.

He played spin well today. Was watching the ball more closely and played Maharaj's straighter one well. I think Younis must have found the fault being the fact that Babar didn't come far enough outwards to smother the spin.
Looks to have worked, but he will need to keep practicing and get really comfortable with facing away spin.
Will be interesting to see how the pitch breaks tomorrow, and what turn Maharaj can exploit. Babar will have a tougher time against spin tomorrow, but hopefully he can prove the doubters wrong.
Currently he is on par with those players at same stage of their career in terms of his LOI and Test stats. Plus if there was who ever thought he wont be scoring runs at home should really re-think how much cricket they actually understand. Even the likes of Afridi and Akmal were able to score heavily at home and if we look across the border than overseas failures in test like Pujara and Rohit are able to make merry at home.
I dont understand how is on par with the Fab 4 at the same stage of their career.
Lets compare Babar with Virat. By this age Virat had scored runs while successfully chasing 350+ scores. He even scored a quickfire 100 when we needed to score 320 in 40 overs. On the other hand the only significant score we can recall is of Babar scoring a 100 while chasing 240 odd in the WC. Babar scored a 100 against Zimbabwe in a losing cause. Virat had by now scored 183 and almost won India the match single handedly.
Even in t20s Babar has a lot to improve. He seems to score in a single gear from start to finish regardless of the stage of the game. I cannot recall him scoring at a 150+ strike rate while chasing total over 180.
In tests he is nowhere near the fab 4. He is yet to score even 1 match winning or match saving knock.
Babar is a very good batsman no doubt. But he is still work in progress scoring soft runs and padding up batting averages seem to be quite misleading.
Not comparing or anything just answering your question. He scored a 90 of 57 balls in sa chasing 190 but the rest of the scorecard read 91-6 of 63 balls.
Fully agreed. He mostly gets out early in the morning or in the last few over of the day's play. It happened against Bangladesh when he got out in the first over when he was 143. Same happened in England, where he most got out in the similar fashion.
I hope tomorrow morning, he stays longer. I badly want him to score at least 100.
The problem with Babar is his temperament he looks like to score a big score but tends to get out in 60 and 70 kinda like Root but when Root starts going he scores a big one ,Iam sure Babar will fix his problems.

Wow what an era defining half century at home against mighty SA!! Can Smith, Kohli do that?
This is third consecutive series of Babar, where he got out in the first over of the morning.
I am surprised, nobody from our coaching panel reminded him to be conscious for the first few overs.
What is our video/data analyst doing.
Bro calm down.
Only few immature posters here compare him with fab 4. You won't see any serious poster calling him the best in the world.
He is below fab4, but is a good batsman. You need to appreciate the good talent.
What is Babar's WTC average when you take out home bashing of SL and BD?
Labu is the best performer in the WTC so far, performed against England, Ind and NZ. All top teams with top class attacks.
He is not overrated. He is brilliant considering the fact that he is a product of a cricket nation that has always had the least amount of talent, skill and cricket intelligence.
99.9% of the people in Pakistan including the players, ex-players, coaches, selectors, analysts, media people, fans etc. have zero understanding of cricket, and to produce a B+ batsman like Babar in these circumstances is nothing short of a miracle.
Thank you, I appreciate the write up
I did not watch a single ball of the Day live and will likely catch up on the recording later, which is what prompted the question.
His YT videos left me unimpressed as he got out a few times, was beaten in flight, had some obvious appeals and got leading edges.
Still not sure whether he’s picking the variations out of the hand but no better way to gain confidence than by scoring runs.
Yasir was enjoying himself so much against Babar he was insisting to bowl out of his turn/having just bowled to Babar, just to continue with his setting up of the batsman.
Very good knock by Babar, he needs to play these kind of innings more often. Now is the time for Babar to take his game to the next level, if he is to become an ATG.
So players like Imran Khan, Wasim, Qadir, Inzamam, Miandad, Yousuf, Hanif, Z Abbas... have least amount of talent?

Root showing how it’s done. Your drives might be the best looking on this planet, but you ain’t winning matches with your 60s and 70s. Especially if you throw your wicket like Babar does every now and then, going for a flashy drive/ cut

When you play cricket for 65+ years and are among the most populated countries in the world, and when cricket is by far the most popular sport and doesn’t have to share resources and doesn’t face competition from other sports, you are bound to produce some talented cricketers every now and then.
However, when you put things into relative context, it is obvious that among all the major cricketing nations, Pakistan is the least talented cricket nation.
Pakistan has failed to produce a single batsman who belongs in the category of Tendulkar, Viv Richards, Lara, Ponting, Kohli, Smith etc.
Pakistan has failed to produce a single WK batsman who belongs in the same class as Gilchrist, Sangakkara, Dhoni, McCullum etc.
Among active WK batsmen, the likes of de Kock, Buttler, Bairstow and Pant are better all-round WK batsmen then we have ever produced. They are a better package than Bari, Saleem Yousuf, Latif, Moin, Kamran, Sarfraz, Rizwan etc.
Pakistan has failed to produce a single proper world class all-rounder in Test cricket since Imran Khan.
Between the debuts of Mohammad Yousuf (1998) and Babar (2015), Pakistan failed to produce a single proper all-format batsman.
Pakistan has failed to produce a single world class Test opener since Saeed Anwar, who also happens to be the leading ODI centurion for Pakistan with just 20 hundreds.
Pakistan does not have a single spinner in the 350+ club yet.
Pakistan has an average legacy in the following departments of the game: batting, all-rounders, spinners, wicket-keeper batsmen.
It only has a great legacy in fast bowling but that was largely down to reverse-swing achieved with illegal means. Once those means became impractical due to great scrutiny and high quality cameras, our fast bowling tumbled.
Please don’t tell me that it is because of the lack of system and infrastructure and we have a lot of talent bla bla. Yes it is partly due to the system but it is also due to the fact that we are not very talented to begin with.
The notion that Pakistan oozes natural talent and will become an unbeatable force with a proper system is perhaps the greatest myth that has ever been recycled in cricket. It is a complete lie.
Why take out his runs against anyone? Do you take out Virat runs against SL or Pujara runs at home and against SL? you will find his average will reduce to late 30s level who you consider among the greatest lol
Please take out Virat's or Pujara's runs against SL like who cares anyways?
Please take out Virat's or Pujara's runs against SL like who cares anyways?
Dude why am I getting the feeling you are in need of Burnol? Your team has world class bats so what are you doing here on this forum bashing another countries batsman? You are this insecure? Can’t you focus on your countries greatness, shouldn’t that be enough? What a troll
Probably the only sensible post I readin this thread.I was not comparing him to fab 4 but previous Pakistani greats who have had simialr careers up until this point. Younis did not become a monster until he was 30 and started to show he will be a great player only around 28.
Regarding fab 4 Virat did not consistently average 50 up until he was 28/29. Smith is another level all together in test and the best we have seen for a long time if not ever. Root is going through a real purple patch right now but he is only making up for real lean 2 years previously and still not averaging 50 at the age of 31 and he may still have another low patch in a year time or something which has been a trend of his career.
Babar needs to improve few aspects of his game currently he scores too quickly on the wickets at a SR of 61 which is too quick for Test cricket. He needs to have a tighter game around outside off and he will score a bit more. But he has a lot of time to go a level up for now he is on par with the rest at similar stage of their careers.
With Fawad, Babar rescued Pakistan from a bad position but day 2 was when he had the chance to score a big hundred, maybe even a double. He tends to get out like this in tests but I back him to fix this issue.
No one said he is a bad player.
He is just over rated and should not be mentioned in the fab 4
He is a player like QUinton De Kock.
Since 2020 we were hearing that Babar will do this and do that. Couldnt get any 100 in England, gets injured in NZ, and when plays a home series against SOuth Africa, he scores one 70 and sucks in 3 innings.
The guy isn't near Kohli. He is rightly a B category player like Quinton De Kock
