What's new

[VIDEO] New Zealand strongly placed on 286/3 at Stumps on Day 2 of the 2nd Test against Pakistan

Faheem is in the side to do the Abbas role ie keep things tight, if possible get a wicket or two but most importantly give a respite to the main pacers so that they can be used in short sharp bursts

These are the kind of situations where senior bowlers like Abbas need to stand up. He has been struggling to do so for year, year and a half now. Without main bowlers standing up in such situations its difficult to incash any initiative.

Also Taylor is a pehlwan type player. Dude is built, homegrown native of NZ. Islanders like him are very fit people, a lot like Samoans. Explains why despite age he always puts in work.

Abbas just isn’t a professional Athlete with that poor fitness im afraid

Just tuned in & Shaheen is bowling 144kph... quite quick, what is his top speed today.

144.2 kph from Shaheen. Learning to manage his pace in tests as well

I have been really impressed with faheem this tour, he has well outperformed my expectations by being so economical

Taylor is Samoan IIRC...

Even session or may be slightly PAks favour as the RR was controlled. Next session is jogging to be crucial with the ball losing shine.

Wow those mini highlight compilations after each session is so epic with that background music!

Oz NRL is full of Samoans, Maori, Tongan etc players. So much talent there- with such a small population & star players in Oz rugby, Euro rugby, All Blacks, American NFL etc there cannot be a place on earth producing more professional athletes per capita than Samoa.

Abbas has been getting away with his economical wicket less Zulfiqar Babar output for a long time now but I am sure that even the selectors, team management, reporters, ex players are losing their patience now

Should go with a yorker to Taylor.

But on target, slightly off line, it’ll be destroyed. He is a bottom handed open stance batsman, probably best medicine is close to body pitched up out swinger, but that ball will trouble every one. Batsman with 100+ Test at 45-46 average hardly has massive weak point, it’s just terminal decline with age, otherwise these quality players could have played into their 50s!!!! In olden days, they actually did so..

I will take a spray gun who concedes runs but also picks up 3-4 wickets in the process unlike Abbas. Ultimately wickets matter in the end and getting twenty wickets is what wins you games at the end of the day

You could set a target of 200-330 runs for 2nd innings, team chasing could be 165-4 at day 5's end and lose.

Point being, "twenty wickets is what wins yous games at the end of the day" isn't necessarily true.

NZ flaunting Covid free world with so many people on the side of pitch and match analysis as well. :haider

I hope other parts of the world can have same normality as well.

I think so too.

I think, by now, the Think Tanks, Captain Coach etc, should've learned that Abbas is a not a new ball bowler in these conditions. It's just wasting the new ball.

Naseem should've been tried instead. Nothing much to lose, but perhaps a better chance to get a wicket?

Abbas is half a yard to slow for test cricket specially when bats are nullifying his movement by standing out of the crease, you'd think rizwan would have noticed this and come up

Plenty in this pitch but it’s imperative to make them play . Also resist bringing the spinner on as long as possible.

Pak have a chance to win this game unless these two once again hit tons .

He was my favorite captain.

Did not always succeed but NZ looked like a different team under his leadership.

His success as a captain and batting was to be on the front foot, so wasn’t sure how much tactical insight he would offer. But he definitely knows what he is on about.

What I don’t understand is , Faheem bowlers really well , why didn’t you start with him after lunch?

Slips are too far back as usual on Kane soft hands Williamson

My jinx worked... I talked bad about Abbas and hyped up Taylor. :afridi

Huge wicket here.

Very consistent and great line/length bowling from Abbas and Shaheen since lunch.

That celebration from Abbas showed the pressure he was in to deliver. Needs to do more here

Abbas picked up his pace and bowled a very challenging line. A lotbetter compared to his first spell.

Nichols and Watling have lots of character and guts. This is a difficult situation for New Zealand. I am worried about what they can do if they last a while.

Brendon McCullum is the only decent commentator they have.
