They've worked hard indeed Alhamdullilah and anything can happen. Today they played bravely and got rewarded.

This is a format where you have to take chances and try to attack even with the risk of it going pear shaped. They did that and well done to him, Babar and this whole team.

What an excellent bowling and fielding effort all tournament from the Pakistani's.

Can you also add the part where he said “our belief is different”

“Our belief is different, because we know that Allah is the creator”

I don’t disagree with this as a Muslim

But I disagree with making such statements on a platform where religious differences are not supposed to be mentioned.

I don't think he was disrespecting any religion in his comments.

However this is why players should do press conferences and interviews in their mother tongue if their English isn't strong.

Very funny English but well played today Rizwan!

Was he trying to convert Ian Bishop to Islam?

Absolutely murdered the English language though.

lets criticize the english if we can't find anything else.... move on people and talk about cricket.

“Our belief is different, because we believe Allah is the creator”

He literally translated that in his mind from “Hamara Iman mukhtalif hai, kyunke hum yaqeen rakhte hain ke Allah hi Khaaliq hai”

The words “Hamara” (our) and “Mukhtalif” (different) are what I have an issue with. It’s unnecessary to say stuff like this regardless! Maybe you can say it at home or in a Mosque if you really want, but it’s not necessary to do this “othering” of your opponents!

I think is people who want to defend this controversial statement that are bringing his English into it. I don’t care about how poor his English is. I think I know exactly what he was trying to say

Rana g jaan dayo, i am 100% sure he is not meant that move on!!!

I'm sure if he was asked this question in urdu, he would have not have phrased his answer as such.

He can do what he likes, he has strong beliefs mA and he wants to communicate it then power to him. How was Islam spread in Pakistan? it wasn’t by the Arab looters, but Sufi missionaries.

He’s in a foreign country and perhaps the brother has intentions of dawah, some would argue it’s what we all should be doing away from an Islamic Republic.

But anyways, his faith inspires him. We shouldn’t be insecure or weak

Can you also add the part where he said “our belief is different”

He didn't mean what you are portraying. He didn't mean our belief is different than NZ or any other non muslim. What he meant was our belief is different which is doing hardwork and leaving results upto Allah.

But due to his limited fluency in English language couldn't phrase it properly.

I don't think he was disrespecting any religion in his comments.

Absolutely. Nothing wrong in his words citing about Allah the almighty.

He simply said/meant our way of thinking is different, we have belief in Allah to bring us success even in impossible situations, and this is so true . Kudos for a super star to convey such messages and enriching the Pakistanis young generation and even the not very religious older guys with such reminders, more needed nowdays than ever. Great platform and great occassion too.

Statements like these is one of the many reasons why I despise Pakistan's cricket culture and don't feel like supporting the team.
You also despise Amla and Moeen for the same reason, do you have serious issues with Islam?

I'm sure if he was asked this question in urdu, he would have not have phrased his answer as such.

I agreed, how many times we say "We have different mindset towards game" or "We have different attitude" etc.

There is no issue, but just because we hate someone we try to find flaws in all the possible ways. This only reveals our upbringing, culture we have developed within ourselves.

The more the trolls are fed, the more they continue. They scour the matches for any incidents where they can take an opposing/ contradictory view and then sit back to bask in the attention.

Rizwan is a role model for all sports people around the world. A hard working, jovial, well liked man with a strong faith instead of indulging in damaging exploits like drugs and alcohol.

My statement is reply to your above post not on your criticism to pak cricket. Criticism is your right but it's more like hate than criticism never see you posting something positive.

saj he wasnt disrespecting at all. He spoke genuinely and from the heart. Even though answering in his language, he started with if i give you an honest answer, we didnt start well and our belief is different as we believe that our creator demands work hard and I will make things easy for you

There is absolutely nothing wrong with expressing your thinking and your belief. In today's day and age just like how the world expects to be non discriminating and accepting of people's thinking and differences, one should also accept what works for Rizwan and what his belief is.

Atleast the chap wasnt monotonous and boring like boys played well, we did basics right etc

He spoke what he genuinely meant and that is more likeable than a repeated boring answer

Kuch zyaada ho gaya.

99.99% of the sports people around the world are not even aware of his existence.

But but he gets niggles every match.

Mamoon. Why can we not accept what someone's belief is and what he feels. We can accept all differences, diversities and cultural differences etc

but if a pakistani does it, he is sppose to be despised. Atleast then one shouldnt call themselves as open minded or liberal. It is ok to be a conservative t**t as well . I may not agree with you, but despising you just because of what you believe in, speaks volumes of your character than Rizwan's

Atleast the man has guts to speak in front of the world as to what he believes in and what his thought process is and is not ashamed to be share that.

Not some random chap hiding behind the veil of internet and spouting out opinions that truly reflect their upbringing and character

It was obviously just poor English but online it seems to have really triggered athiests and coconuts.

You also despise Amla and Moeen for the same reason, do you have serious issues with Islam?

I am also a Muslim. My problem is with people who advertise their religion instead of keeping it personal.

You should notice that I have no issue with Adil Rashid even though he also has a beard. In my opinion, he is the perfect role-model. Religious man but keeps it to himself.

Wonder how Hayden gets along with these guys. Sure, Rizwan would have tried "dawah" with him.

Go and watch Hayden's interview with Fox Cricket last year.....he was mighty impressed with the spirituality in the team and said it helped the team to bond well together.

Kuch zyaada ho gaya.

I never said he was a well recognised international superstar. I said he's a role model for sports people around the world due to his work ethic, performances, athleticism, how much he is liked by people etc.

99.99% of sports people aren't aware of most cricketers, so that doesn't stop them being role models.

kamz

This is a Pakistani trait. Remember Malik's "all Muslims around the world wanted us to beat India" crap after the WT20 2007 Final?

Afridi and Inzamam have made such nonsense statements as well. Now Saqlain and Rizwan are reviving this culture after Misbah kept religion aside during his captaincy/coaching tenures. Nothing wrong with being religious, but please don't shove it down other people's throats.

But but he gets niggles every match.

Ah yes, putting your body on the line and getting injured after diving in etc is attention seeking. He should not dive like Conway did today, which cost his team the tournament.

Islam is supposed to be preached. It’s not a personal thing. It’s about collective well being of the society

All well and good

I would then urge the Hindu players in India to pay tribute to Sri Ram and the Christian cricketers in England to pay tribe to Christ their saviour. Power to them I suppose

Mamoon None of the guys I mentioned advertise their religion, juts because they are not afraid to talk about positive aspects that the religion brings to their lives does not mean they are doing it for public. These guys were practising all this stuff even when they were not famous or in front of cameras. I for one want them to display more so my childeren and other people's childeren are inspired by our religion.

Islam is supposed to be preached. It’s not a personal thing. It’s about collective well being of the society

Then become a full-time preacher. Keep cricket and religion aside.

What would the non-Muslim Pakistani cricket fans feel about Rizwan's antics?

How exactly is that clear? You are talking about religion.

My point is that the way Adil Rashid conducts himself is admirable. He is a religious person but he has not forced his religious beliefs down others' throats and hasn't made it a problem for others like Amla and Moeen have.

Then become a full-time preacher. Keep cricket and religion aside.

Never known any non muslim pakistani or non pakistani fan have issues.

More power to Rizwan....keep going.

The trolls better learn to deal with it.

Then become a full-time preacher. Keep cricket and religion aside.

What would the non-Muslim Pakistani cricket fans feel about Rizwan's antics?

Islam teaches how to live one’s life. That includes every aspect of one’s life including your profession.
What did the idolators and polytheists feel about Prophet Mohammed (SAW) when he began preaching the message of Islam. Was he supposed to care about how others would feel. Read some Islamic history is my suggestion to you.

Darren Sammy when captain would also refer to “the Lord” in post match presentations. Nobody kicked a fuss about it. Nothing wrong with what Rizwan said.

My point is that the way Adil Rashid conducts himself is admirable. He is a religious person but he has not forced his religious beliefs down others' throats and hasn't made it a problem for others like Amla and Moeen have.

That his how Adil practises his religion, which is commendable.

Moeen choses to be more outward because it is his choice and is an important part of him. Its made all the more significant because it is done in an environment of English cricket which is one of the most racist aspect of this country. You wouldn't know that nor do you even want to consider the possibility instead talking up the behaviour of those who complain or the lack of skill of Moeen.

You were quiet seeing all damning proof about the strife institutional racism in English and Scottish cricket. This makes it all the more important for players like Mooen to stand up for their beliefs and proudly share them, so that others can be inspired.

My point is that the way Adil Rashid conducts himself is admirable. He is a religious person but he has not forced his religious beliefs down others' throats and hasn't made it a problem for others like Amla and Moeen have.

That is more to do with Adil's personality, just keeps to himself. Not everyone is expressive about their beliefs religious or otherwise.

Then become a full-time preacher. Keep cricket and religion aside.

What would the non-Muslim Pakistani cricket fans feel about Rizwan's antics?

That's their problem, not his. If you or others have no interest in what he says that is fine, so ignore him, but he is doing what all Muslims should do.

“Our belief is different, because we know that Allah is the creator”

I don’t disagree with this as a Muslim

But I disagree with making such statements on a platform where religious differences are not supposed to be mentioned.

Says who? A bunch of atheists and irreligious folks? No thanks. Islam is all encompassing and Rizwan, just like Salah, Benzema, Mane, Khabib, Islam, Beterbiev and pretty much every Pakistani cricketer, is well within his right to speak about the importance of Islam in his life and success.

I absolutely love how Rizwan triggered his haters in so many different ways today. Won Pakistan the match and spoke about Islamic theology.

Reminds me of Khabib and his "ALHAMDULILLAH, I know you guys don't like this".

Muhammad Ali is arguably the greatest sports man of all time. He was outspoken on his important beliefs regarding racism, war and Islam.

He was very clear that his conversion was a significant and important part of his success, and this helped take him to global stardom.

Perhaps the posters here think Muhammad Ali should have kept religion out of any of his speeches and interviews ...

Ah yes, putting your body on the line and getting injured after diving in etc is attention seeking. He should not dive like Conway did today, which cost his team the tournament.

Yes but his critics have issue seeing his face on the camera, even if its because he is fighting out in the field for the team.

All well and good

I would then urge the Hindu players in India to pay tribute to Sri Ram and the Christian cricketers in England to pay tribe to Christ their saviour. Power to them I suppose

How many "Christian" cricketers are there in the English team?

Do you not watch any other sport? Beneil Dariush delivered a full Christian missionary message in Abu Dhabi recently and no one had an issue with it.

The issue lies with you, and it's pretty tiresome, to be honest. Get used to it, Pakistan is a Muslim-majority country and our people are not abandoning Islam anytime soon.

Don't like it? Don't watch. Pretty simple.

He can praise Allah, his religion all that he wants. That’s his FOS

The only issue I have with the statement in the OP is presenting the team’s religion as a difference between Pakistan and other teams. It’s not necessary.
Mamoon is also right, how would the non Muslim players in Pakistan feel about this?

Well that’s a bit dumb isn’t it especially if you live in England. People only go to church here when they get married or if their dad dies.

There’s a less of a chance for these players to wear their faith on their sleeves isn’t it. Danish Kaneria who was practicing use to gesture to whatever he believed in when he took a wicket.

I think there’s a crowd of Pakistanis with strange beliefs, most likely big fans of the muthar to. So when they see someone from an Islamic Republic depict their strong beliefs, their behind burns like a Adana kebab on a grill.

What will they say? Danish Kaneria had zero issues with playing side by side with guys like Inzamam and Yousuf and has praised them for never discriminating on the basis of faith.

Why is it offensive to a non-Muslim that a Muslim has faith in his beliefs? Rizwan was talking about Muslim Pakistanis when he said "our belief is different".

Ridiculous as usual.

Adil Rashid, like Moeen Ali, doesn't partake in the English champaign celebrations. He's an introverted person and doesn't talk much about anything.

He would have zero issues with what Rizwan says and does.

Mamoon is also right, how would the non Muslim players in Pakistan feel about this?

is he being disrespectful, that is the key question. Is he being derogatory against anyone or any individual. Why is it so hard to respect what he believes in and what he says. He has a mind and a heart to think and say what he likes. Has he churned out some vile stuff?? The answer is no

He was asked a question where did this come from. He said honest answer, it came from our belief. If one cant accept that even shame on us.

Non muslim players would have different mechanisms of where their performance and self belief comes from. Rizwan no where in his statement said that this is what non muslims should also follow

He said our belief is different because it is and that is a fact!. He is not saying that ours is superior or our belief is only what works. He is not being disresctful at all and one should accept what works for him

besides, you own him? that what he says even should be according to your liking and in your control mate!

you can disagree as a fan that for you it isnt necessary, but expecting that he doesnt follow what i think is right

Speaks volumes of ones own character that you despise someone on what they feel and say!

Spot on. They must do press conferences in urdu and use a translator. Nothing wrong with that, rather than speaking broken English and meaning gets lost.

Man this guy can throw racists remarks or start giving sermons on stage.. i dont care now.

He got Pakistan into the finals, thats the only thing that matters for me amd concerns me. He did something that no other player has been able to do for many years

Even Khabib thanks Allah swt after his victories, I never had an issue with it

No sane human being would. People who believe in God will thank God for His blessings. It's not a new concept, lol.

Will it be ok for Bishop to say that he believes Yahweh or Jesus is the creator and his religion is different ?

Pakistani players sure give cringe interviews.

He spoke about his own belief.

Why is there so much jealousy around?

Absolute joke and getting silly all this criticism of Rizwan.

I think the words are being twisted here, unsure what is teh objective behind. He said our belief is different, we belive we work hard and Allah rewards us. Nothing wrong in saying that. he isnt saying your belief is wrong or our belief is better. He is just stating what works for them. Is that hard to accept and comprehend

and yes it would be ok for bishop to believe in whatever he wants. It is his belief and what works for him. we should learn to respect that. full stop

There is no twisting of the words there. Rizwan was implying that the universe is created by his God and he was expressing his faith. Most of the world is not "in your face" about religion. But if Bishop had said that "Well played Rizwan but I disagree with who created the Universe", then it would have been very awkward.

I understand you can preach what ever you want in your off time, but when the whole world who practice various faiths or may be even atheist, are watching, bringing religion and claiming that the Universe is created by his God, it become irritating and some even express strong opposition.

People watch TV for entertainment, not to listen to someone's personal beliefs about universe.

Why would Ian Bishop start a religious argument with Rizwan when he's interviewing him?

Keep these dumb hypothetical scenarios to one side and show me an actual example where anyone other than dumb haters and Islamophobes have an issue with a Muslim being grateful to Allah.

Best post in this thread so far. Couldn't agree more.

You can't go around alienating non-Muslim Pakistan supporters albeit it was unintentional from Rizwan.

Saqlain isn't a coach and to make matters worse he's reviving the Tableeghi era akin to what we saw during Inzy's leadership after the 2003 WC.

he was implying what he believes in. Does he not have the right to believe in whatever he wants???????

just answer that my friend and if someone asks where your performance came from and if he credits it to his belief, does he not have that right?

Or that right disappears out of the window because he is a pakistani or a muslim? Why are you so defensive? he hasnt disrespected any other religion or implied any ones elses belief or even thought process.

Why you got your knickers in a twist?

Absolutely nothing wrong in what Rizwan said. He spoke his mind and this is how muslims are. And we won't change for anyone. Only insecure people will have a problem with what he said. May Allah be the judge.

Bishop does not bring his religion because he does not want to smear the entire world with his personal views on God.
Its a dumb hypothetical scenario until someone says it. Keep your religion to yourself. It is personal. We do not want to hear about your views on God and religion.

He was interviewing him about cricket, not his religious beliefs in the first place

Yes, exactly, which is why Ian has to remain on topic with the cricket while Rizwan can thank God, his family, coaches, haters, etc. This is why it has never happened that an interviewer has gotten offended when a player thanks God and speaks about his belief in his Creator.

Not a hard concept to grasp but I'm not surprised that a certain group of people cannot seem to understand.
