Meanwhile, Pakistan T20I vice-captain Shadab Khan is also carrying a groin niggle, which limited his participation in Sunday’s net sessions to batting only. He had missed the Zimbabwe T20Is due to a similar injury and decision on his participation in the Auckland T20I will be made closer to the match.

So here's my question, was Shadab unfit before departing for New Zealand?

How can he have recurrence of same injury in such a short period of time?

Groin injuries can have strange and recurring manifestations. Very tricky niggles.

I am wondering if a proper and competent assessment of Shadab's recovery from previous injury was done or not

We have very poor management that can not look after a player's injuries. We played Shadab in every game without any rotation, to begin with. He is an all-rounder and an excellent fielder. Even after that when he did get an injury we continued to relentlessly play him. Someone needs to be held accountable for the blunders in this tour. First Covid and now Captain and Vice-Captain are both injured. Disaster this.

Wasim Akram had a groin injury from November 1987 to October 1989!

Against Zim I guess it was stiffness in his upper left leg, though it was around the same region. Management used to tell it was a leg injury during Zim series so not exactly sure if it was the same issue back then or a different one.

If he wasn't fit, then why select him. There were other options available, like Danish Aziz, Agha Ali Salman and even Mohammad Nawaz over a injured Shadab Khan.

Injuries are part and parcel of the games babar injury that was no ones fault but shadab injury needs to be looked into as same thing happened against zimbabwe

Half of these guys are always injured or carrying niggles which get worse over time when the series is about to start.

Waqar Younis comments on Shadab Khan's selection

"Shadab is only on this tour because he recovered from his previous injury and that is why selectors selected him; he couldn't build up on his recovery during quarantine period"

Seems like he shouldn't even be in New Zealand having not proved he is 100% fit.

Fitness is key for our players. We don't know exactly how unfit he is, but it is better to limit his participation in the first T20I. We can try out Usman Qadir as the main spinner and see how it goes. If Shadab is fit, then we should play him.

Hopefully shadab passes the fitness test it will be great if he can win the series as a captain

I doubt he is fit!!!! I read the issue was groin and here I see he is bowling without stressing left foot at delivery stride.

So let me get this right.

His place in the team is as a player who is half a batsman and half a bowler.

He's ascended to the captaincy, but he's not fit to bowl properly, so you're left with half a batsman.

Who says hes not fit to bowl properly

Pakistan cricket team management is hopeful that young leg spinner Shadab Khan would reach full fitness before the first T20 international against New Zealand on Friday and lead the team in place of injured Babar Azam.

Shadab, who is carrying a leg injury, had his fitness monitored after the team arrived in Auckland.

According to the Sources within the management that the all-rounder’s condition has improved significantly and even bowled in nets.

Shadab’s fitness will be under review during Wednesday’s afternoon training session as well.

Pakistan team have so far a disastrous tour of New Zealand, what with their camp getting hit with Covid-19 and quarantines and now several of their star performers picking up untimely injuries, including captain Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq.

Shadab Khan is one of the best All-rounders in the Pakistan Cricket Team. Shadab has experience in the captaincy of the team, he has played almost 42 T20 internationals for the national side in which he has taken 53 wickets.

Here we go.

Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan has been ruled out of the first Test against New Zealand due to a thigh injury following the conclusion of his side’s four wickets victory in the third T20I in Napier on Tuesday.

Shadab will now undergo MRI scans in Tauranga on Thursday, following which a further update on the exact nature of the injury and time needed to return to competitive cricket will be provided.

So, are we still saying that there was an "over emphasis" on fitness during Mickey's time?

Shadab should never have been on this tour, and Mickey would have made sure of that. However, there are no such things as rules or standards when it comes to Misbah and co. What a bunch of unprofessional losers!

It's a new injury.

One wonders just how fit he was during the T20I series.

He wasn’t stressing his leg too much, and unable to extract as many revs from the ball. While fielding, he was tossing his body all over the place and clutched his leg at one point with a grimace that he then shook off. I’m guessing, not very fit.

Not really a big loss for the first test his bowling wouldn’t have come in handy. I might opt for Zafar instead of Faheem now for the first test.

We needed a seam bowling AR like Aamer Yamin to bat at 7 in these conditions. That'd allow us to play four seamers plus a specialist spinner like Zafar.

Faheem and Amad's batting is not better than a #9.

Wasnt it also the injury in the left thigh which ruled him out against Zim?

Yamin is the only guy be it spiner or pacer who can bat at 7 and give a useful 5 bowler role in the country

Unfortunately misbah is to thick and stubborn to see this.

His bowling looked toothless, i'm almost happy to hear this news as it might mean he hasn't lost his skills completely.

I don't think he was fully fit in the T20 series . Poor management of a player to play him when he isn't a 100 percent fit especially when he is coming back from an injury.

Imcompetent management

I don't trust these buffoons to treat Babar properly

Explains the performance in the T20 series. Misbah and Waqar are making sure to destroy every decent player this country has.

could have done a decent job with the bat in the test and chipped in with a few wickets
