"The tea is fantastic": Captured Indian pilot Abhinandan

Hope nobody holds this against him when he is returned to India. Some joshila diehards might not be able to accept praise of Pak captors by one of their own pilots.

He is a native of Delta area in Tamil Nadu. Grew up in Chennai. We don't disown our people like that. He'll be forever a hero here. He went to battle, sacrificing his life. He was beaten by an enemy that was better equipped. When he arrives here, he'll have heros welcome.

He has not sacrificed his life. He failed in his mission. So why should he get a hero's welcome? so he is from Chennai..won't be surprised if he was from the crowd who gave standing ovation to wasim akram's team for beating india on indian soil. Should be derostered and suspended for violation of conduct in the unfortunate event of Pakistan releasing him.

So relieved to learn that the Indian pilot is married.

seriously? *** kind of questioning is this?

Time to cut off these videos.

And btw, now apparently they just have this one pilot in custody after earlier claiming they had 3.

Even Imran Khan mentioned pilots in his speech, not pilot. That is not a good sign. Means he is not in the loop.

I am not sure he even understands the training and methodology they get to be "calm and self-assured" even when they are captured.

If this poster was ever captured, he would be shouting like a lunatic for forgiveness.

Thought the Wing Commander handled himself amazingly well.

LIke you who was shouting like a lunatic for god to punish the IAF lol.

Thanks for the praise. We aren't selfish morons like some of our Indian posters. We give credits where its due and we give respect to whom ever deserve.

What credit is due and what respect is deserved for this shamed and captured pilot?

There are two possibilities:

(1) our intelligence was complicit with Osama and protected for years before CIA blew their cover

(2) our intelligence is so incompetent that the most wanted man in the world was hiding half a mile from a military academy, and they had no clue.

I know which version I believe in.
Off topic, but since we are talking about ISI and their incompetence, what are your thoughts on 9/11. how did the world’s best CIA let it happen?

It could be that CIA and ISI were jointly supporting Osama. His time was up and hence he was killed. This was America’s token for showing a so called successful mission.

Fog of war but I think they clarified they shot down 2 planes, one on Pak border and 1 on Indian side.

Indian media on the hand are saying they shot down 1 F16 when there are no photos or evidence so far.

They are losing the propaganda front especially the ridiculous we have killed 300 terrorists.

Why would you expect anything less? After all, we looked after India for 800 years and treated it well before deciding to get our own country. :allama:jinnah

some real ignorant comments in this thread

as to why they are asking if he is married, it is called building rapport, the more comfortable he feels, the more he talks, the more likely he is to divulge sensitive information. it is standard interrogation practice.

secondly as for why is he behaving so politely, again, building rapport, as fake as it may be, he needs to endear himself to his captors for his own wellbeing. he may be in pak a long time, doesnt want to annoy the people he will rely on for everything.

neither party gains anything by antagonising the other, however being nice and polite is mutually beneficial, for now.

Damn jingoism is one hell of a drug.

We who loll? We have same ancestors. Oh c'mmon...

I get what he means. Pakistan is the successor state of Muslims who formed British India and inn musalmano ne paanch sau saal raj kiya tha India pe

I said Allah o Akbar which means Allah is great.

Allah o Akbar and yes indeed, Allah is great.

Seems like I touched a nerve, by invoking the wrath of God on disbelievers that u seem to be ignoring.

Everything is developed by People of the Scripture or atheists in that case.

People of the Scripture (Chrisitians and Jews ) might still be saved by Mercy of Allah.

But there is no saving for those who deny Allah outright as mentioned in the Quran.

However, the Quran does say " He forgives whom he Wills and he Punishes whom he wills, and he is the most Forgiving, Merciful".

And the Ayah doesnt specify that he only forgives those who believe.

So I am quite neutral on everything.

Is Islam the right religion? Yes.
Can the people of the Scripture be forgiven? Possibly.
Can an atheist reach heaven ? By mercy of Allah.

Everything is possible and those who think all disbelievers are entering Hell might be in for a surprise.

But in a war, it is okay to curse disbelievers, especially if their intention is to kill you.

I dont regret my choice of words because we were attacked first.

Need to make it a full thousand years.

Very interesting account of his capture

https://www.dawn.com/news/1466569

These are confusing incidents in the sense - fact is he was trying to shoot down and potentially kill a Pak pilot. And yet, they can sit back and chat with each other like professionals.

It's a bit like a fast bowler who bowls a bouncer aiming to hit a batsman's head. And when he does, goes and asks him if he's ok. And later doesn't hesitate to try and hit him again.

Only the professionals who engage in this can see it as a job and duty while the rest can debate on morals, principles and ethics

Before 9 11. No one took the travelling rules too seriously. It was quite laid back.

Heck, i almost travelled to US even after my dad thought i lost my passport when i was like 3 or 4.

Though it was found in the last moment. This was before 9 11.

Afterr 9 11 air travelling became strict

Please read my post again, it was regarding Indian sponsered terrorism on Pakistani soil. I know your views of Pakistan on this subject.

But I understand you dont want to say anything negative regarding India, your call.

Indian sponsored terrorism in Pakistan is a response to Pakistan trailing militants in Kashmir. Since Pakistan started the conflict, there is no point blaming India for fighting back.

You can't blame only traveling rules for the biggest terror attack. It was an intelligence failure if it was not an intended incident.

Dr,

There is nothing wrong with believing in god, however you are now sounding like one of those typical Abrahamic faith followers that say, my god is better than yours, believe in my god OR ELSE.. It does not suit you, from years of reading your posts you were very open minded and non imposing and that is what made you special, you would echo sentiments it was ok to believe in your beliefs as long as you were acting sensible. I know the current political climate can change ppl's mind's however don't let it change who you really are..

Technically, everyone in this world has the same ancestors. What is your point?
We are ethnically, culturally, DNA wise same people and have same ancestors. I hope you understand what I mean. Pakistan never existed before 70 years. Bharat exists. Indian civilization exists. Leave it.

You really are messed up in the head...

And lol generalising population of Chennai based on a cricket match there 20 years ago :))

Imran Khan has just said in Parliament that the captured pilot will be released tomorrow as a peace gesture

This is the first time I am very heartened to see developments with wahts taking place, first the lies of the Indian Govt has been exposed saying that all planes arrived back safe and sound, clearly not true, hopefully next step will be to expose what damage India actually did, their govt lies are beign exposed one by one...........Their lies dont carry weight

What bakwas are the bollywood brigade saying now? That the soldier is full of grace and dignity, etc, I dont deny that, thats because the pakistani army are making him feel that way, they have treated him right thats why, The bollywood brigade still cant see the wool fron the trees lekin their chest thumping has been exposed too...shame on them

It took you a while.

India trained and supported terrorists in East Pakistan. You seem to be justifying Indian terrorism, let's hope their terrorism doesnt come to bite you personally

Pak started this policy in 89 way way way after India already took East Pakistan from us by helping and training militias. You need to revisit history I guess. India also openly helped militants in 71 so you should not bring thid moral debate.

Thank you for looking after him.

I must say i am proud of wing commander Abhinandan. He kept his composure and interacted with Pakistan forces with utter professionalism and bravery.

A medal awaits.

As for Pakistan army, they could have shot him dead and nobody would have known or bothered about it. But they did not. For that you have my respect. You rescued him from angry mob and have agreed to return him in record time. Hats off to this gesture.

I do not know for sure if this move will bring an end to this conflict but let it be known that this move will not be forgotten and sooner or later, some Indian leader will surely feel compelled to return the favour. Maybe on another day, maybe in another war.

To my Indian and Pakistani brothers calling for a quick resolution to this issue, I stand in solidarity with you all.

With love.

I agree. Make him commit seppeku in front of all your major media broadcast players. It'll be another moral win for Pakistan.

Also invest in some burnol.

Given the track record of Indian Army, this guy will have to prove that he isn't an ISI agent. He will be under surveillance. I'm sure this isn't last we are hearing of him.

I can already see the movie in the works for this event. Abhi rising from the slums to become a fighter pilot with admirable patriotism although tainted as he watches as a kid, NDTV showing footage of an aftermath of Pak sponsored terrorism. Skip 30 years and he is ready for what he has trained for. Called upon personally by Modi he embarks on a dangerous mission knowing death is likely. Pak F-16's encroach Indian lines and our brave Abhi ensures no civilians are harmed from his payload. A technical snag results in his plane going down. Civvies approach and he can't verify if Indian or Pakistani, but our brave Abhi keeps his cool and fends them off firing warning shots. He remains there for a few nights until captured and transferred to the Pak army by local terror groups. There he shows great bravery despite taunts etc. He makes an escape attempt but is let down by a fellow prisoner who disguised his hatred. Modi's diplomatic efforts prove fruitful as he puts pressure on an unstable Khan which results in his release where Modi meets him himself. Cue ending with them walking away in tandem.

Hindu extremist like you have no place in this world! The man served his mission, got captured and was brave enough to sit down with Pakistani military and talk face to face. You would be pissing your pants in his position. Maybe you should get lost and go back to BD.

Good post. Pak army and the pilot have come out of this with their reputations enhanced. It was very professional. As far as the timing of release, it is debatable considering we are small fish and don't understand the implications totally. Time will tell if it was a master stroke from Imran or not.

New video of Indian pilot, Indian media cant even celebrate this ... watch the full video..

is CricketCartoons one of your Indian brother? He is calling for war and head of the captured pilot.
CricketCartoons is one of the finest Indians on this forum.

His thoughts maybe extreme but his heart is in the right place and he remains consistent and true to his words.

In this time, if an Indian or a Pakistan feels the country should do to war for its pride, i am not one to judge them.

The people i dislike are those who on one hand claim they are nationalists but on the other hand remain silent and dishonest about discussing shortcomings of Modi/Pakistan army. If it is truly about the pride of the country then we must not politicize the matter in favour of our preferred political party and totally ignore whatever wrong our people have done or their shortcomings.

If CricketCartoons wants wars but is open to discuss IAF's shortcomings and Modi's unprofessional handling of this whole episode, he has my respect. From my experience he is always fair.

He is unlike plenty of Modi bhakts on this website who claim to be on India's side but are actually just online puppets of Modi and are just trying to hide his failures.

We are ethnically, culturally, DNA wise same people and have same ancestors. I hope you understand what I mean. Pakistan never existed before 70 years. Bharat exists. Indian civilization exists. Leave it.

Bharat and India did not exist. A bunch of princely States existed which were conquered by Muslim rulers and the Mughal Empire was born followed by the British Empire.

India was the name given to the region due to the Indus river - It was the Indus civilisation. Fact is that Pathans, Tamils, Bengalis, Beharis, Sindhis, Balochis, Punjabis, Gujratis, these are vast cultures in themselves.

They are countries in their own right, but are forced to live with each other as part of a single country, be it Pakistan or India.

The Baharatvarsa name, from which India takes its official name of Baharat from, only highlights how backwards people of our region were. While the Romans and the Greeks and Persians were conquering new worlds, our people were content living in their bubble of Baharat-verse.

I don't think Imran understands politics and i am glad things are that way. Imran is a wonderful big hearted person who due to years and years of healthy interactions with Indian people remain a trusted and friendly leader in Pakistan for us.

What Imran has done here, he has elevated himself in stature as a leader. I saw many feeds on facebook today about people demanding Novel peace prize for him. He has my full backing. His move is iconic and should be applauded by all.

Dropping few planes and killing few people here and there is not our objective. We need to initiate dialogue and work together on creating peace in this region.

And therefore the credibility of it will be effected severely

Editing is kind of obvious.

Also, surprised to see that he speaks Urdu/Hindi. I had assumed that in general, South Indians don't usually know it.

They don’t, but an overwhelming majority of the personnel in Indian Armed Forces are Hindi speaking, so the South Indians in the forces probably speak Hindi as well.

Similarly, almost everyone in Pakistan Armed Forces is well-versed in Punjabi.

Almost all of the soldiers can at least speak Hindi. Members of the IAF and NAVY can definitely speak and write in Hindi. Hind is easy to learn and understand. Not complicated, his wife is North Indian. South India, especially Tamil Nadu where Abhinandan and fired or "retired" Cheif in command C.harikumar is from used to contribute very good numbers to the Indian Army in 60s, 70s and 80s, including 2 from my own family. Language barrier and regional favoritism ruined the Army. The accusation became worse when IPKF forces were sent to Sri Lanka and some of the Indian officers didn't like when Tamil and some Malayalam speaking Indian soldiers were getting too comfortable, watching movies in theaters, eating local food and communicating with locals in a language that most members of the forces couldn't understand. It became nasty when war broke out between the IPKF and LTTE. There was a suspicion among officers that Tamil speaking officers and soldiers were leaking information as the LTTE seemed to always know what the IPKF was upto. There was a secret heli drop mission by the Para Commandos to take out the LTTE top guns that went terribly south. By the time Commandos were deployed, LTTE was already waiting with AA guns. Many were sent home, my oldest uncle returned with half the face and another never returned. Long story short, the whole indian communication was hacked by the LTTE and relation went sour. Since then, language Hindi is heavily imposed. Soldiers must be united, therefore imposing Hindi is not a bad thing.

IAF is top notch professional. Won't be surprised if some will say the "retired" or "fired" Chief in Command C.Harikumar who sent Abhinandan did so because he is also from Chennai and favouritism took place

Just 1 POW whom Pakistani military was forced to return in 2 days. And you guys can't seem to stop talking about him, like it was the greatest victory in the history of Pakistan. Come to think of it, it was the greatest 'victory' in the history of Pakistan.

Correction.
February 2019 was a pivotal moment in time when all of India’s lies were exposed.

Forced to return? Come on, Imran Khan is a big hearted individual and he returned him despite the Geneva convention not applying for cross border skirmishes. After all he did once recall an Indian Batsman who was crying bloody murder about Pakistani umpires.

How can you talk of such things when Kulbushan rots in a Pakistani prison?

Are you talking about the same history lesson in which the Pakistan lost half it country and the whole Pakistani army SURRENDERED after having been comprehensively defeated in a span of a mere 13 days?

see post #225.

whole army ? show me the neutral source of 93k soldiers as PoW ?

Are you so damn delusional that you don't believe the Pakistan Army surrendered in 1971? I don't think there can be a better source than an official stamp released by the Government of Pakistan.

Romanian DJ Akcent on Friday wished fans in Pakistan a happy Defence Day in a unique manner. The singer has toured the country on more than one occasion to widespread approval from music fans.

Taking to social networking platform Facebook, Akcent posted a photo of himself with two armed men, and a caption which wished Pakistanis a happy Defence Day.

Akcent added that the "tea was fantastic", a reference to a video of Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan, who was captured after his warplane was shot down in Pakistani territory.

In the video made after his capture, Abhinandan appreciates the tea given to him by Pakistani officials as they interrogate him. The Indian pilot further added that Pakistanis had treated him very well, saying that the tea provided to him was fantastic.

The post has received thousands of likes and hundreds of shares on Facebook. It has sparked wild reactions from fans on social media from both sides of the border between Pakistan and India.

A few days after his capture, Pakistan released the captured Indian pilot on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan as a gesture of peace. He was handed to Indian authorities on the Wagah border crossing.

As I've mentioned before.
There were only 54k pak soldiers. Not 90k
The rest were engineers, civil service (governors etc).

one year ago today, we destroyed two planes and made a mockery of an Indian airforce pilot.. good times.

I also heard, Pakistan was able to jam the Indian Military's communication which caused confusion and the IAF ended up attacking their own Millitary helicopter which was airborned to save others :))). Six Indian army men died due to friendly fire

Three years on, Pakistanis are wishing their fellow Indian neighbours a happy fantastic tea day to mark the country's ‘swift retort’ against the Balakot airstrike, conducted by Indian warplanes on February 26, 2019.

For the unversed, Pakistan shot down two Indian aircrafts violating its airspace on February 27, capturing Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. The response is celebrated annually, unearthing a trove of memes featuring Abhinandan's video which sees him appreciate the treatement he received by the Pakistani military and also praise the tea he was served. “Tea is fantastic,” he is heard saying in the clip.

"I'd like to put this on record: I will not change my statement even when I go back to my country. The officers of the Pakistan Army have looked after me very well, starting from the captain who rescued me from the mob, from the soldiers, and thereafter, the officers of the unit I was taken to. I would expect my army to behave in the same way. And I'm very impressed with the Pakistan Army," he tells his co-pilots in India through the video message. When an officer probes, "I hope you like the tea?" Abhinandan replies, "The tea is fantastic, thank you."

Abhinandan was allowed to return to India as a gesture of peace on March 1 but Pakistanis have since been sipping on the joke that doesn’t seem to lose its taste. And while reactions have been dull, due to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, hashtag #SurpriseDay is trending on the micro-blogging site with memes pouring in alongside prayers.

Singer and host Fakhr e Alam tweeted Sunday morning: "Wishing you all a very Happy Fantastic Tea Day. A gentle reminder that we serve fantastic tea on the dialogue table as well. So, the choice is yours, [whether] you want to pay with a plane and a pilot or just have a nice talk and sip on tea for free."

"Stay home, stay safe," advised a user.

As per almost tradition now, many reminded each other of the price Abhinandan had to pay for the "fantastic tea".

Some also lauded the real man of the match.

"Just a reminder," wrote a user with a picture worth a thousand words.

Others are still busy appreciating the art.

While several are pointing out, "Today, if our situation is not like Ukraine's, then there is a uniform behind it."

Many are simultaneously praying for Ukrainian lives as Russian forces break through Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, where street fighting is now taking place, as per AlJazeera. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Ukraine is ready for peace talks but not in Moscow’s preferred venue of Belarus. Russian strikes have also targetted Ukrainian oil and gas facilities, igniting a depot near the capital, Kyiv.

Tea Price Rises To Rs 1,600/Kg In Cash-Strapped Pakistan

Islamabad: As Pakistan goes through an unprecented economic crisis, the price of black tea (loose) in the cash-strapped country has now swelled to Rs 1,600 per kg from Rs 1,100 in the last 15 days as around 250 containers are still stuck at the port that arrived from late December 2022 to early January.

Well with the way Pakistan is currently surgically striking themselves, they are soon going to run out of tea.
