Umar Siddiq: Wicket-keeper batsman from Lahore

He's good enough to play as a specialist batsman.

Bullet Drive's delusions aside, I definitely like the look of Siddiq.

Future superstar from Pakistan.

Scored a ton off about 70 balls today. Not out as well.

Excellent start to his domestic career across all formats.

Averaging 50 in first-class. 6 tons and 5 50's.

Averaging 60 in list-a. Strike rate 86. 2 tons and 7 50's in 16 innings.

Was averaging over 50 in t20 cricket until recently.

He's a leftie too.

One to watch out MMHS

Another one to keep an eye on is Imran Butt. Let's see how they develop.

Mamoon rates him. He has a very good eye for talent no doubt.

^ He looked very good in the CLT20.

Haven't watched Imran Butt play, going by stats only so far.

Also Umar Siddiq seems to be level headed, I guess in CLT20 in an innings of 20 odd looked assured and kept rotating the strike which has been a problem with our batsman even someone like Shehzad who has knack of getting big scores but puts too much pressure only because of that. Still early days for Umar Siddiq though hopefully he can translate these domestic performances to international level when given a chance which is around the corner imo. Surely has potential to do well though.

Why is this batsman not being mentioned alongside likes of Babar Azam & Sami Aslam... Average of 50+ in both List-A & First-class is no joke...

http://www.espncricinfo.com/pakistan/content/player/598896.html

He doesn't play departmental cricket and regional cricket standard is way below.

I remember naved yasin was averaging 55 in regional cricket and then he traansfered himself to a departmental team and started failing. Same happened with usman salahuddin. Regional cricket shouldnt even be called first class.

He lo0k very classic abats but have serious doubt over his keeping ability. By the why a btsman with good head and temperament + 50+ avrg in both LA and First class can't play only as a batsman?

His team mate tells me hes in the form of his life. Scoring hundreds daily!

And he said he can keep too.

Perfect for us.

I believe under new structure departmental teams plays against departmental teams as well as regional teams...Even though he doesn't play for departmental team but he plays against departmental team.....

Bdw he is playing for omar associates in PCB Patron's Trophy ||,same team for which Amir plays and he is piling on scores brilliantly...Looks almost in every match making a 100...

Haven't seen him play, the stats are good.

But he is in NO WAY 22 only. Another case of 5 years older than the official date of birth.

One for the future, definitely.

We keep saying that and then we select them they are 28-32 and way past their prime.

Pakistan does not have good player development structures, a domestic player will have equal prowess over his skills at age 28 or 22.

It's not like Australia/India/SA/NZ/ENG where a player will improve the longer he plays domestic.

I have seen him play, Very composed, solid and level headed batsman.

Ideally he should get a few tours for PAK A and then get selected if he does well there, but we rarely have A tours. I think we do have one A tour coming up in April, but the question is if its just going to be a one-off or will there be follow up A tours.

Nonetheless, Siddiq should definitely be part of that A tour to Sri Lanka.

Is he left hander ?

Yes regional teams dont test you a lot.

should play all youngsters should get chance no more ttf

If our team is only full of youngsters then be prepared to watch them fall like a pack of cards...We need a couple of people with experience though I'm all for the idea of bringing in new faces just not all at once.

sorry I meant he should play and all youngsters should get a chance to show their potential. That's why punctuation is important lol.

Averaging 50+ in FC & LA means definitely someone to keep an eye on. Should be in the Pakistan A squad.

I am genuinely excited about this player for a few days now. Look at his stats even. And hes young too

has anyone seen him bat?

I had seen him in the champions league in 2014! Was all at sea against Boult and Southee's swing! Didnt impress me! But may be that had to do with him being exposed to the international type scene for the first time and that too in a foreign country!

Saw him bat last year in the Champions League in India; looked good.

Hopefully we'll be able to see him play in the Pakistan one-day team soon - his stats are quality!

Is this guy still on the radar or has lost his way? Could he challenge Rizwan as our backup WK?

Seems to be a timid guy when the pressure is on. Looked like a tailender during Champions league 2014 with big crowds and more scrutiny. Haven't seen him bat after that.

guy has done great in Fcplus he can keep as well. i think this guy can be a replacement keeper in LOI.good pick by MS.

He is not a first choice keeper and hasnt been keeping in FC for last few seasons.

But a good batsman who can play accoridng to the situation. So yes as a keeper batsman I will have him as 2nd choice wickeeper batsman after Sarfraz for odis. We should have groomed him, another case of lack of connections.

This selection is actually due to connections. Wasim knows his father.

I liked when I saw him few times on TV and secondly he had great domestic stats too at that time but for some reason always missed Lahore's t20 squads due to Akmals taking the place in Lahore Whites and Blues as keeper.

Can he make it to the national side or not?

I like him, If Sarfraz is injured I will call him in the odi side. Dont see any better option. But in the presence of Sarfraz, no. As you know for me Sarfraz's value is far greater than just a keeper batsman because of his captaincy.

For t20s I would like to see a hard hitting batsman. For tests a better wicketkeeper than Umar Siddiq.

Pakistan is in desperate need of a back up for Sarfraz. He is playing every single game so he could pick up an injury. That's why we need a back up keeper.

Mohammad Hasan seem to be the back up keeper given he was given a category D contract.

He is also supplementary pick in PSL.

Needs regular FC cricket and can also be tried out when a series is won. Need a back up for Sarfraz. Sarfraz doesn't have MSD fitness levels where he can last for 5/6 years playing every single format.

I like him as well but he's been given plenty of chances on A tours, has not capitalized.

Good batsman Calm, composed a good keeper too. Bright future ahead of him if given the chances. Glad to see he has been picked for psl. Hope he gets a few chances to play.

There's seem to be an issue with selecting a back up for Sarfraz for some weird reason. No use in bumping threads like this. The revolutionary doesn't even try a new keeper versus Zimbabwe B so why will he select one against top teams?

Threads are bumped because we're interested in following domestic cricketers' performances, it's not all about Sarfaraz and the current team. A lot of people are interested in domestic cricket as well.

You mean to say there are sincere people on this thread who are interested in following cricket? How dare you suggest such a thing. :najam

On the topic of Sarfaraz, it's interesting his critics are silent on how much he has improved his fitness as per the latest fitness test. Then they have the audacity to say they are objective :)).

Must be ordinary- because I have been told many times here that Sarfraz is only available option. There is nothing better than a bang average WK, averaging 15-16 in last 1-2 years.

If he improves his wicket keeping then must be inducted into national team as a wicket keeper who can bat at top of the order.

As an aside, it looks like he has lost some weight which is good.

Looks like he has a power game too and can hit sixes when required. Hopefully he will get chances in the next PSL.

Last time i saw him in CLT20 for lahore lions he struggled against Narine looked completely clueless and now today that 1 against lamichane he sweept the ball and it hot his pad he was again clueless all these 4-5 years still hasnt worked on weakness against quality spin

At least he looked decent against medium pace. Rizwan completely lost it and the only shot he has is running down the track and sarfraz should be retired after the world cup
