[VIDEO] Umar Siddiq: Wicket-keeper batsman from Lahore

The second best wicket keeper batsman in Pakistan after Sarfraz.

He should be seriously considered in all A tours instead of Rizwan.

Will give tough competition to Sarfraz which is healthy for our team.

I don't know what the selectors are doing. Do they even go themselves and watch the domestic players playing. If yes then why wasn't he in the reckoning. He is better bat than Rizwan can ever be.

He is better then Sarfraz.

He is easily a better batsman than Sarfraz. He stopped keeping few years back but started keeping again for his domestic side from this season.

Unlike likes of Rizwan, Mohammad Hassan, Saifullah, Gohar Ali, Rohail etc who posters here hyped from time to time in their hatred of Sarfraz this kid actually is a proper batsman and was hard done by the politics in Lahore (playing Umar , Kami and Adnan as wicket keepers for regional tournaments) and then he gave up keeping to become a proper batsman.

He is one of my favorite youngster and wishing him success so he can give tough competition to Sarfraz (as such competition is always good for National team) and I wont mind him taking Sarfraz's place in future if Sarfi continues to perform badly.

I think he played well in just one match. We are prematurely claiming him to be better than Rizwan.

He has to score every single match next time onwards because batsmen in PSL has been VERY INCONSISTENT so far.

Hope he continues to get runs in this tournament and gets a call up. Looks really good

Bit legside-ish at times but have always liked his batting. Surprised he does't get more chances (both in PSL and domestic). How is his keeping (you mentioned he gave it up briefly)?

I like some of his strokeplay, but he needs to rotate the strike more than he does. It's almost like a big 6 then a few dot balls.

Yar i only watched him keeping one time around 5 years back in a domestic match and he looked good and natural at keeping.

Kher today i am just watching the match for him and we can see how his keeping is these days.

IIRC he kept pretty well vs LQ.

Did you see Ahsan Ali bat? Rate him highly. Will be batting later today vs KK.

For me Ahsan Ali is a bigger prospect. Guy is a powerhouse with a decent technique for limited overs.

Umar Siddiq is talented and will with time get better.

Horrible shot to get out.

Ordinary stuff -on a par with Sahibzada Farhan.

Yar tbh he looked a bit scratchy to me against pace but was very good against spin.

But it was a slow wicket where even likes of AB De Villiers struggled so have to see more of him.

And has done well in one of the 2 matches.

I watched him today, as an opening batsman in a T20 match he was very ordinary.

Poor strike-rotation, poor game-awareness, the occasional big hit.

A lot of work to do.

Yep today i didnt like his innings aswell apart from 1 or 2 shots and agree he needs to work on strike rotation.

But his technique looks good and that of a proper batsman and i believe he has a range of shots.

Can't do worse than Rizwan

Has a little bit of Shan in his batting style.

Looks like a good keeper too.

Want to see more of his offside game though.

I know Today were't a huge score to chase but this guy has strike rotation problems. He hits some great shots but still only batted at around 100 strike rate.

Among the very ordinary wicketkeeper batsmen we have in Sarfraz and Rizwan, he is not great but better than those two, both in keeping and bowling.

This is the difference between domestic and PSL/international. Teams have done their homework, know he is strong on the legside and don't feed him there. Struggled in his last innings as a result.

Hmm thats sad. He looked really good in a televised match 5 years back. Had hopes from him.

Right now Sarfraz is untouchable and no keeper is close to him.

Even as a Sarfraz fan i want someone to give him tough competition. Will only be good for Pakistan.

Not a criticism of him per se, rather a criticism of domestic cricket (analysts).

As least Siddiq is aware of the issue now and will work on it (as well as improve his footwork) hopefully in the same way Jason Roy had to.

Siddiq has shown he can drive fuller length e.t.c. so not like he is a dud on offside, just limited atm.

Limited player. Can't be considered better than Rizwan. Rizwan has much better domestic stats.

Umar should play with confidence.

I think he gets nervy and this leads to his downfall.

If he emphasizes on being free flow, he will do much better.

Also he is an average keeper. Dropped most of the balls of Abbas' and Irfan's opening burst.

Good timer of the ball ateast better bat than pathetic Rizwan but need to tight his keeping.

He has scored 64* runs off 57 balls so far against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Pakistan Cup.

A pretty ordinary 'keeper - 2 very simple chances gone abegging in the SP v Sindh match

Umar Siddique 67* - looking set for a 100

He, along with Ahsan Ali, was the best emerging batsmen of the PSL 2019... far ahead of anyone else ... extremly confident, calm and can hit big... needs tht "WoW" innings to be noticed but i believe thts just around the corner for him

In Round 6 of QeA vs Balochistan : Umar was dismissed after scoring 130, his 11th first-class century. Umar’s 255-ball stay was studded with 14 fours and a six.

60 and 107 against Northern. Joins the long list of openers who are making runs for fun this season.
