Abdul Wahid Bangalzai reminds me of Asad Shafiq. Good to see locals playing for Balochistan

If I didn't know any better I'd think I'm watching a younger more flamboyant version of Asad Shafiq. So similar in batting style

Backlift is decent, timing on some of those cover drives is impressive and looks to be playing short ball well. More importantly he is the highest scorer in National T20 2nd xi and making a claim for the main squad at just 17 years of age. Good to see Balochistan is producing some decent young talent.

A taller, more dynamic version of Asad Shafiq. Good looking player for sure.

Well done to the management for promoting a youngester into the same xi

Looks a prospect. He is the type of player that should have been playing in the T20 tournament, instead we play 45 year olds!

Let's look at the positives and we need to give some credit to the management even if its slightly later than expected

He is playing.

Or did you want to catapult a 17 year old into the first XI of a regional side with barely any U-19 let alone second XI games?

He performed in the second XI, got promoted. This is the magic of the new system.

Or should we mark these kids as Test material and keep them away from T20s?

Let him make all formats debut at domestic level first, then we can see who fits where? No reason he cannot be a dynamic player with multiple gears for multiple formats.

I was making the general point that rubbish batsman that are 10 years after their sell by dates are still around. He may or may not be good but the principle of getting the average age of domestic batsman down, needs to be looked at very closely

You’re right but it must also be done in moderation. For example, I am impressed that Hurraira was held back for one more year of U-19 cricket as it gives him more time to develop at his own age group and learn captaincy skills as well.

In the past, he would have been catapulted straight into the first XI of a departmental team and found it difficult to make a spot his own with on and off performances.

Now, there is a clear progression system. U-19 domestic, Pakistan U-19, Second XI domestic, First XI domestic, Pakistan A, Pakistan Team.

That is how it should be.

Do you know if he part of the 19s tournament that pakistan is doing this month or next month

I hate to be that guy but he doesn’t look 17. Closer to 21.

Doesn’t mean he won’t be a good player but quite annoying this is still an issue.

Let’s cut it halfway, he looks like an old-looking 19 year old :afridi

Balochistan have added Quetta-born 17-year-old Abdul Wahid Bangalzai following his consistent run with the bat in the Second XI tournament. Abdul Wahid, who also represented Pakistan in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020, has replaced Imran Farhat.

Abdul Wahid Bangalzai scored 18, 73, 19, 90 and 35 in his five matches for Balochistan. In contrast, Imran Farhat managed only 19 runs in his two outings in Multan.

I hope he opens or plays at 3 and isnt asked to bat at 6 like Qasim Akram was for CP

Balochistan have Awais, Imam, Bismillah and Haris as the top 4. Tell me how he'll break in to that?

They stupidly picked him, and he'll come at 5 or 6.

I'm thinking they'll go:

Awais
Imam
Bismillah
Haris
Akbar ur Rehman
Abdul Wahid

Abdul Wahid should bat at 5 akbar ur rehman isnt that good pluss hes like 35b

Emergence of local talent from Balochistan is heartening to see. Don't forget the pacer Akhtar Shah from Killa Abdullah.

He took 7 wickets in 3 matches at an average of 12 in the National T20 2nd XI Cup.

More coming through at the age group levels, including WK batsman Haseebullah Khan.

People might not know this but Bangalzai is an ethnic Brahui/Baloch tribe not Pashtun, so this is great for Balochistan and Pakistan cricket.

Surprised people are bringing Shafiq into the discussion with his playing style, when it is easily deductible that he is trying to bat like Kohli.
The trigger is very much like him when he moves onto the front foot.
However, he opens up a bit too much when he commits to a stroke. This is why he looks legside dominant.
He will need to stay more side on to avoid getting closed off and become more fluent on the offside behind square.

Wish Mohammad Haris was given to BAL instead of AUR. Haris is being wasted on the KP bench, his ceiling is much higher than people like Sahibzada Farhan

Was part of the U19 WC squad but couldnt get to bat.

Looks like a genuine 17-18 year old kid from these pics, for some reason looks older in OP pic.

Anyways, on topic he looks like a great prospect but what's even better is that he's a local player for Balochistan, hopefully he gets to open or atleast bat at #3, I would love to see him and Bismillah open for Balochistan in the remaining games but that looks very unlikely. Hopefully Imam or Zia drop a position and he gets to open.

Will be very shocked if Quetta Gladiators dont pick him and actually give him a game in next PSL

Thiers lots of youngesters coming throw in the bowling but not many in the batting baring a few in the national cup

Defo muhammed Harris should have gone to another team but now kp are proberly going to qualify they should chop and change the players for example haris should play instead of farhaan or malik to test thier bench strength out if he isnt ganna be given a go now the management should be held accountable

Has so much time to play the ball.

Looks a fine batsman.

Let's see how he goes and if he's actually given a chance.

Yes that pic on the PCBs website is a pretty poor one so I thought its worth sharing his pics from U19 squad days before people jump to too many conclusions regarding age based upon just one pic and limited info.

Given a chance today for game against KP - lets see if he can impress.

Golden duck for the kid.

Hope he gets more chances though.

Think he will remember this delivery for a while

Delivery to Bangalzai!

<div style="width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.250%;"><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/njjsvk" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe></div>

Nerves probably played a part - feet were stuck in cement.

Got a good one from Afridi, Bangalzai should not be disheartened.

Unfortunately his first ball on debut was a beauty from the top bowler in the country. Hopefully he is backed by the management and gets more chances.

Got a Jaffa.......Saheen was pumped up too.....Saheen was wayward at the end though.....unlucky 4 the kid......hope he gets more chances

I think this first ball duck may prove good for his future.

It will keep him grounded.

It will make him realise that playing in upper tier is not that easy (unless you are Saad Nasim) and if he wants to play for first xi and then for Pakistan, he needs to work very very hard.

Best of luck to him for future....

Where do yo want those feet to go? Can't go more forward than that to such a full delivery.

He's got to move forward and get into line.

You aren't going to hit the ball if your feet are stuck like his were.

I thought there was nothing wrong with his feet movement. He was in a great position to drive that. The mistake he made was not anticipating the inswing and not playing it as late as possible. As a domestic cricketer, he should know that that's Shaheen's stock delivery with the new ball.

Still young, and importantly was the top run scorer of the second XI cup. Good to see him promoted which shows a positive approach from Faisal Iqbal and also shows that the system is better at rewarding performers with upwards mobility than the previous system.

Some gaps in his technique, coupled with one of the best balls Shaheen has ever bowled, exposed his off stump. Ultimately, it comes down to how he reacts and modifies his game accordingly.

Feet or no feet it was unplayable

No, if foot work was correct, he could have been LBW or survived with an inside edge - there was enough gap between bat & pad. It wasn’t that the ball came into the batsman sharply (there wasn’t enough time - it was pitched up), rather it held its line, could have ended outside leg at the point of wicket keeper’s gloves. May be unplayable for the kid, but with proper stressed left pad, I have seen batsmen driving that type of length through covers.

On top of that, if you look at the bat swing, the face ended towards mid-wicket - he was trying to drive a left-arm pacer bowling over the wicket through on side (probably realised that the ball is not going to leave), but at the time of pitching, in slow mo, I can see two sticks inside left pad - that’s a cross bat swing.l with eye (head position) not in the direction of bat swing. Ideally that front pad should have been at least a foot advanced, covering the line of ball at pitching spot, and the bat swing ending towards mid-off or full face - that half-volley could have snicked into wicket via bat pad or got an LBW (in no inside edge, quite possible for such balls) but most cases it won’t get a wicket. And, it was a half-volley, let alone unplayable, depending on the batsman.....

Better showing from him today - seems more settled so far.

Looked very good - that scoop off Hasnain - wow!

Out to Hassan Khan for 32 off 26 - stumped!

Some nice shots today.

A bit of inexperience with his dismissal, but good signs.

Decent innings for the youngster. That scoop of Hasnain was really impressive, hit a decent six against Hassan Khan by using his feet.

Showed some glimpses. Has some decent shots. Will definitely improve with some more more experience and confidence.

I am happy that we are finally producing some decent young batmens who are actually good to watch.

Pakistan is on the upward trend brother.
This is only the start. You will keep getting surprised as this decade progresses. InshaAllah!
Watch the signs and you will know.

Yes inshallah i hope so. I am exicited that we are finallly seeing young talent in both bat and ball. At least gone are the days of the like of anwar alis and ahmed shehzads in our teams.

He was nervous at the start. This is understandable. He has potential and will get better with experience. He gave away his wicket due to inexperience.

Of course their was enough gap but was that cuz he fought it was ganna go straight up and not come back in even the commentator mentioned the ball came in.shaheen is a class bowler he was facing his first ball azwell that would have got many batters out

Have been a nervous starter till now but he is young and start to settle in at this level with time and experience.

He is young and nervous. Otherwise looks good when he is in flow. He will develop well, in 2 years I see him as a potentially standout domestic performer.

He is nervous which is not a problem.....he will get to it by time......should be persisted with but need domestic experience atleast 2 years.......also would want Arshad Akif to gain atleast some domestic experience

very goog technique and temprament wide range of shorts looks solid with short hand grip

looks liike jnr asad shafique

Happens to even the best out there when they are young.
Patience is the word.
Dont even look at him for atleast 2 years.

Of course it does but if he cant handle pressure in this tournament its ganna take long time for him.i fink hes just nervous and didnt no if he was to attack or defend
