[VIDEOS] Azam Khan - Performance Watch

Very pleasant surprise, and really excited to see what he brings the rest of the tournament.

In recent times Pakistan have built strong bowling bench strength, need a couple of batsmen to start taking charge now.
 
Get this man an xxl Pakistan national jersey and put him on the national sqaud :p but honestly he if he wants to play international cricket he needs to lose weight and work on fitness
 
He played one game, before the game he is useless after the get him into national team.
Why can’t we appreciate his batting today and take it game at a time, asking him to loose wait and constantly criticizing him doesn’t make sense. He is what he is, if he wants to be a big guy and he is comfortable with his body, who are we to judge he is not asking to be in National squad or criticizing anyone.
Let the man enjoy cricket, he wants to play as long as he performs who cares what his weight, colour, or height is.
PCB should colons Virat, but only taller Pakistani Pathan version who are more stronger fitter, but then again we will still find something wrong with that, he is not human, he is not true Pakistani or HE IS NOT A GOOD LEADER

Played well today. Let's see if he can consistently do this or not.

Pakistan do need hitters. So a good PSL can certainly get him close to national team
 
This guy can hit. He needs to be developed more. Its still early days for him.

Will keenly follow his progress. Has potential. Level headed, mature kid and better hitting ability than china ka afridi and sobers.
 
He has everything let’s see if he can be amongst the top 5 run getters in psl5 then sky is the limit as for his weight well he is a better runner between the wickets then the likes of Hafeez & Sharjeel

He may be able to run a decent pace, but his stamina will be bad. He still has to lose at least another 12kg of fat.

Only in Pakistan would Akmals still have support. I would take a player like Azam any day. Complete sifarish player but at least his attitude doesn’t stink and he doesn’t seem the kind to repeatedly bring shame on Pakistan.

My fears are turning out to be true.

Struggles vs. pace and also at picking change of pace.

Tried to hit everything on the leg side today and nothing clicked.

Seems like we now know why he isn't playing first class cricket.

Good bowling by Hasan and Wahab but he didn't seem to have a clue. Dragged 7 of his 8 balls to leg and the one time he tried to go off he lost his stumps.

I think he has the ability to punish spinners.

Medium pacers too if they bowl in his zone, i.e. cow corner slogs.

Can be destructive if these two things happen. Which will happen at PSL or league level.

Pretty obvious why he isn't. Moin doesn't want him to. If he plays and fails his selection for PSL will become even more contentious. Moin is a canny customer, he knows the extent of Azam's talent and wants him to play PSL only.

Has a lot of strength but it is highly unlikely that he will be fed what he likes at the international level. Hasan's slower ones totally bamboozled him.

I agree. International level is something way above his skillset as of now.

May still do random fireworks in the PSL because he will face poor bowling.

Imam is a different story. He is a proper batsman. His real issue is his attitude. Azam doesn't have much talent, just the desire to play and can't fault him for that but unfortunately competitive sports is a cutthroat world and even nepotism can only take you so far.

I didn't get to see the innings today and as you pointed out, he is one dimensional. It's something that can be worked on but needs to play FC. On the plus, it's easier to do that way than learn to hit cleanly, which is a natural gift.
 
Have seen him before.
Was helped by sloppy bowling and horrible field placing with shortened boundaries in last match by Misbah's Islamabad. When facing quality bowling he struggles a lot esp. slow deliveries. He can hit on the off side as well but he was pulling most towards leg side due to some issue.

He us sane as Imam ul Haq in ability just can hit mediocre bowling better than Imam.
 
give the kid a break, at first i too was harsh due to his size, but whatever, he has an opportunity, let him shape it and lets critique him at the end... this time he struggled, so did every1 else, but he has the extra baggage (no pun intended) attached to him... so he gotta go the extra mile...

Another powerful knock from Azam today. Absolutely took away almost a lost cause for Quetta. One good thing about him is that he doesn't seem too bothered by pressure or the match situation and backs his natural game to take the team out of trouble. Quite rare from a Pakistan batsman. I hope he keeps going like this.
 
I want to see him lose some weight. Definitely in the inzi or even sharjeel mould. If he keeps playing like this in the next psl too, he might get booked to the 2021 t20 wc in india
 
He is WK batsman but can't keep due to Sarfraz.

It is not like we have Dhonis and Gilchrists in the domestic circuit. NCA should keep a eye on him, and groom him.
 
I don't mind his as a batsman but I hope I never get to see someone with his fitness keep wickets

Don't say that Dhoni didn't come from a tree he was made into Dhoni , did you know he wasn't even selected in U-19 team as Ajay Ratra was preferred because they thought dhoni didn't have technique to survive in International cricket. Cricketers don't come from tree its just need eye to spot the talent 😉

Got a great eye and hit a few good shots. But he needs to lose weight..has great hand eye Co ordination. He needs to lose a lot of weight and isn't int class yet..
 
From what I have seen:

Pros: Can hit the ball big, has the ability to rotate the strike and keep the runs ticking over without getting bogged down

Con: Unfit, at times when he has hit a boundary or 2 he gets carried away and starts swinging blindly resulting in him losing his shape and unable to pick up variation such as slower balls.

If he can lose some weight and become a bit more level headed after hitting a boundary he certainly looks like he has potential.

That six off Amir was a gun shot. A stunning shot! It takes serious ability to be able to pull off something such.
 
He's got some good shots but he still strikes me as a one-dimensional player who will struggle on good pitches. The weight is ofcourse a major liability, needless to say.
 
Way too early to say anything more than that he got good hand-eye co-ordination and he can take the pressure. He really really need to work on his fitness if he wants to be anywhere near International cricket need to loose some good 10-15 Kgs.
 
I really wasn't that impressed with his first innings as it was a bit flukey and against a pretty ordinary attack but this innings was amazing. A truly match winning knock. It was a pretty flukey as well but some of the shots he played were amazing especially the bullet drive against Jordan
 
Another match winning innings that shot off Amir was brilliant good rotation of Striker keep it up lad
 
Azam Khan is young and will develop more fitnesswise, skills are there,he needs more games for consistency, smashing Jordan and Amir is no joke imo, bloke is here to stay:)

Lets not be over critical of the lad. May be you did not see that shot he played straight over M Aamir head for a six. Thought I mention one of many good shots he played so far.
 
He looks a good prospect - Do need to be groomed properly for 2 years in domestic cricket.

I am not discrediting his performance but in terms of playing for Pakistan there are plenty of better batsman to be selected ahead of him.

WK batsman?

Rizwan can't clear the inner circle against fast bowlers and Sarfraz is getting old. Not saying he should be in Pakistan side right now but PCB should have look at him and groom him as WK batsman
 
Really impressed with his temperament. He has already played two clutch match-winning innings!
 
Pakistani fans go to reaction: trash a player when you haven’t seen him play. Trash him even more if he comes from a privileged background.

Impressive. Seems to have time to play shots and a good head to go with it. Has got to get fitter and come in the frame with continued performances.
 
A LOT of Azam Khan haters have been put back into there holes. Don't judge a book by its cover!

Maybe the finisher we need.

He can pull well, so could be very handy in Australian conditions during the WT20.

Its so easy to become in the reckoning for Pakistan these days. Never mind if you average 13 odd in domestic cricket.

For Azam’s sake he needs to score tons of runs in 2/3 domestic seasons before getting considered for international cricket.

Yep, a Pakistan’s cap is very cheap these days...

I agree with you but we know this is Pakistan and we don’t think rationally.

This is for the first time he is really playing professional cricket(1 T20 last year and played some List A matches in 2018)

Asif Ali got selected for Pakistan when he averaged 18 in T20I
 
No one is saying he should play for Pakistan, he needs to play consistently well over a period of time before he can be looked at, also his fitness needs to improve. So far he is getting the runs lets see how he goes in PSL first.
 
It is far too early to talk about his international credentials. However, it is pleasing to see him work on his weight because he was putting his life at risk. Last year he was critically obese. At the moment, he is still way overweight but on the right path at the very least.

Nevertheless, he has already made a bit of a name for himself and if he can have a good F/C season, he could be in contention for a national cap.

Besides, the Pakistani cap is very, very cheap these days, and it doesn’t take much quality to become an international cricketer in Pakistan.

When you have players like Asif Ali, Ahsan Ali, Musa etc. calling themselves “international cricketers”, why deny Azam the opportunity?

As far as nepotism is concerned, as I have said before, it is not an issue as long as it gets talented players noticed. If Azam proves to be good enough for international cricket, we should be thankful that he is Moin Khan’s son.

People only notice nepotism when it happens in international cricket or PSL, but what people don’t realize that nepotism happens in domestic cricket as well.

The most successful F/C batsman in Pakistan history (Fawad Alam) would not pass a single trial with his hockey technique. The only reason he got into domestic cricket was because of his father, and he took full advantage.
 
Looks like one good inning he played was a fluke or pure luck, since then he is showing his true colors. He is not of first class standard let aside of International standard, even with poor standard of batting in Pakistan.

I did not see much difference in his weight from previous year, even if he has lost some, he is way to too over wt to be considered for any serious sport. He is playing , thanks to his dad.
