[VIDEOS] Babar Azam - the T20 batsman

I'd prefer it if they only selected him in Tests and ODIs. I feel that picking him in T20Is could spoil his batting.

He plays T-20's the same way, so no personal torture but the team's gonna suffer

Pakistani sentiment towards Babar and Amir is exactly the same.

We rate them based on what we want them to be and what we thought they'd be, not how they actually are.

Takes time to set, shouldn't be a number 3 although still a very good talented player, preferable to become an opener.

Let him play.
Pakistan can't change his whole team. They can induct only 1 or two player on a tour. We are very poor starter and opening is our big issue and he is there to stable the team. Pakistan don't need to play 8-9 big hitters and fall down like WI.
He needs a clear role and he is there to deliver it. I don't mind as long as he plays the pivotal role in the team and other players plays around him.

I'm not convinced.

His strike rate is a concern and his array of shots seems limited.

Yes he plays some wonderful shots, but it seems like just when he needs to kick on he plays a loose shot.

Strike rate of 116.66 at the current PSL which really is not good enough.

Gotten even slower at the International level...

Struggling so far in the CPL. Just 56 runs in 4 games plus he's eaten up quite a lot of balls to get those runs too.

Hope he turns it around soon.

Still not convinced that he is a T20 batsman.

I'd rather the selectors just played him in ODIs and Tests.

Is the format the problem or his trouble against spin? Or both?

I think it's T20. He's a lot more suited to ODI's but that's my worry - looks like being around Hafeez and co has made him consume more dot balls lol

Where are the haters now? This guy is the best batsman in the country and those crying that he should be dropped from t20s don't know what they're talking about

He has batted beautifully today. In my opinion, he is better off opening in t20s (in place of Shehzad.)

All the hype here and yet Shehzad outperforms him each time it seems.

What are you talking about? I understand that Bangladesh doesn't have a batsman as good as him but you don't have to undermine his performances. MOM in the first game

Well played Babar. Should read conditions & match situations better and would like to see him try to score quickly from the start on pitches like today.

Especially when he is batting with Shehzad. Luckily we scored 3 sixes at the end so the score is respectable now but still feel we should have scored 200.

Is this an ODI? And Shehzad outperformed him by miles today. So why the different barometer? Baber did nothing but score v WI in UAE.

Babar averages in 60s in t20s and shehzad in 20s are u serious i know shehzad is hero in bpl but he is no way near babar

41 off 32 today in chase of 212.

Struggling in T20s in recent times again - getting the runs but at a below par rate.

Babar needs to develop strength, his timing is not an issue, need more force behind those punches, could not clear full toss on the leg :sanga:

Developing lean muscular body is important to get power behind his strokes, that’s the only way he can hit 4s/6s in LOIs specially in T20...Kohli did that and improved his hitting ability, I hope Babar focus on building lean muscle, he needs that to go to the next level.

Really struggling to see why leagues pick players like him based on odi performance..
This guy needs to stop being selfish and give up this format once and for all..instead focus on test cricket which is any cricketers dream..guess you get greedy for quick money at such a young age.

Excellent innings of 54 in just 37 balls by Babar Azam for Sylhet Sixers against Rangpur Riders at the Bangladesh Premier League #BPL2017 #Cricket

Another selfish innings by Babar. He is neither T20 nor Test material

Babar has improved his SR a lot since the last year. Pakistan fans just need to be patient and he will become the player they want him to be.
Mickey has to set him Targets for his batting, that will help him improve and develop as a player.
No doubt he has it in him to be Pakistan’s best batsmen across all formats

This was the ** kings tolerated last season..... can't go on like this. Salman Iqbal has a penchant for celebrating mediocrity. This time he ends up getting even a better contract based on these performances.

Babar helped win the World XI series and the NZ series.

I think Babar is fine when you have a big hitter batting with him, but he gets found out if there is a similar batsman batting with him or he is batting with someone who is struggling to time the ball.

Looking at Babar, you just know when he really pushes himself at best he can do a run a ball which isn't enough for T-20's especially if the hitters around him don't deliver.

today's innings looked selfish to me he didn't took much strike and kept taking singles didn't went for the big shots which is required in t20

Did you not hear the coach? His job was to bat till end, not his fault others failed to do their job.

Who is his replacement?

Babar should not play T20s on merit. Problem is there are players even worst than him who are in the T20 team so cannot drop Babar before them.

I too believe that's the case. Replacement are worse than him. But it'll haunt pak in big occasions.

Could have gone slightly faster but not his fault when wickets are tumbling from the other end.

Now the dust had settled, it seems that Babar innings is more than the eyes meet. He is the only batsman who was able to hold on to one side and ensure that Pak reach a respectable totals, which no one seems to be able to do in the entire match. This was a match winning innings, and not a selfish innings that everyone is trying to imply.

It is ridiculous that Babar gets picked on. Yes he is slightly slow for T20 standards. But he has a specific role by the coach to bat through the innings. And we have players like Sahibzada, Talat and Asif who don’t deserve to be part of the 15 because of different reasons. Our domestic season is also not exploding with T20 batting talent.

Like it or not, Fakhar, Babar and Malik are your top T20 batsmen right now. You need to fix other slots, not these 3.

I don't like this role for him. Babar is capable of hitting well. Coach and captain's advice shouldn't hold him back.

Please, if he didnot play like this today then Pak would had been rolled inside 100, and match result would had been different. Let Coach decide the gameplay, he understand the game more than anyone of us.

Need to improve the SR

The question of improving SR comes when it is easy to bat. Today on the other hand there were lots of demons in the pitch and was not easy to bat at all. In this circumstances, today Babar's effort with the bat was brilliant, not only he scored fast and at a run ball, he carried the entire batting order on his own.

Good for setting a total of 130-150 max. He can’t help set or chase down a 160 plus total. Does not have the game or capacity to develop such a game.

The Australians had Finch, Maxwell, Short, and Lynn who could all muster up a total of 20 runs.

The UAE is not conducive to stroke makers which is why Fakhar also struggled to put bat on ball.

Babar's innings (68*) was the difference between victory and defeat; 66 runs in fact.

The chasing team couldn't hit 100 and we're attacking his solid innings. It wasn't perfect but it's only because people think he's the next Kohli they get disappointed.

He's a top 10 batsmen potential and he is still growing. He can be criticized but nothing points to dropping him in any format.

The same people who supported Misbah somehow attack Babar despite all he's accomplished. Here's a clue, players can improve.

Really early to say this. A plethora of players develop speed with time.

On flatter pitches he will need to improve his shot range and bat through the innings. But today he did a good job and was a key reason why we won.

But without him, chasing or setting 140 (I take average of 130 & 150) will be extremely difficult for his batting unit against most teams, in most games. He is least of the problems.

Pakistani got lucky with a weak aus team. But against others, this type of slow innings will be the reason of defeat.

This is cricket and played like a gentle man not like a hack. These two teams had top big hitters in the world and none of them passed even 20. He played beautifully according to situation and pitch conditions. Stop posting non sense here.
