[VIDEOS] Babar Azam - the T20 batsman

Amazing talent! What a player he is to watch! He’s only going to get better. Just needs to work on the power game and fitness, like I’ve been saying he is our best batsman.

The innings he played today was brilliant.

World class player. Well, it is a well established fact but nothing else to say.
Pleasing to eyes.

Babar azams innings

That was the best T20i innings iv ever seen personally. The shot making , range of shots and timing was superb. Onwards and upwards ..

Needs to improve his power game. Doesn’t last an over when the time comes to hit sixes.
I think power game consistency is his problem along with getting bogged down near milestones. He's young and seems to only get better so it's pretty exciting to have one really good prospect.

I hope he grows in his weak areas, but given that he's been hyped since 13, it's impressively that he actually has been give or take as expected.

Incredible innings for sure. It feel so weird to see a Pakistani batsmen play so well. Commentators have rightly been praising him through each format in this tour, he has been quality. It's too bad he has to bat with mediocre players who fail to do the basics correctly. He did the right thing by trying to hit sixes because on the other end Talat was struggling to even connect the bat with the ball, therefore forcing Babar to play rash shots.

I fear that Babar will have to endure what Lara had to face. Top class talent in a mediocre team.

A interesting stat

14 of Babar's 21 dismissals in T20I's have been caught. Almost 70%. One was a run out so 14/20 that's 70%. If he can develop the power to muscle the ball over the fence at the end he'll become even more of a beast!

The only positive of this tour is this guy's push to claim the top position in the group of best batsmen of the world. He's obv not there yet, but what he showed on this tour in all 3 formats was very nice to see as he has worked on his scoring rate and played freely.

But think about it, it took almost a decade and more of investment to produce 1 Babar. How much can we invest like that in other promising players, and will we?

Just curious so I can get a grasp of your scale, what is the worst t20 innings that you've ever seen?

He has certainly developed a new gear for t20s which is good to see.

Important innings today. Gave the team a great start. The rest didn't bat that well but it didn't cost them too much thanks to the good start.

Rofl some fans have anointed him the power hitter of this series. Probably has hit most of the imaginary sixes for Pakistan this series. For Babar to stay in T20, ICC needs to amend and keep fielding restrictions [6 or more players in the circle] for most of the match to allow Babar Azam to play shots.

Babar is a bad investment like Asif Ali.

Investment??
They have already invested on him and this is the final product.
He is just going to improve now.
He's pakistan's best batsman

Babar lacks 4th, 5th gear in the back end of the innings that guys like Miller, Maxwell, Rohit Sharma have. Frankly he probably he may never have it all his career. His batting style is not suited for such explosive finishes. Someone else from the team has to take over the hitting part.

It doesn't matter tbh. Miller, Maxwell, Rohit are not as consistent as Babar either. Babar plays in teams where his runs are the difference between win or loss and he's playing accordingly. If he continues at 130+ SR and scores 80 runs, they are more than enough balls for the rest to score 120. Thats a 200 team score

Problem is he can't go at the same speed outside powerplay. There may be times when after 100/1 one guy gets out. New guys will struggle to find the timing. Onus will be on the guys who were already there to handle the acceleration. Babar has one gear less outside the power play. He needs someone to complement his stay.

All else aside, Babar plays for a team that has 92% approx win rate when it scores above 150.

That's like three losses only in 50 something innings. He's okay for now.

Definitely he is the least of Pakistan's problems. After all there is more than one individual is invovled in winning matches. Kohli is such a fantastic stroke player. I never expect him to reach the heights of Rohit sharma who is a beast when he gets going. Every batsman has a cealing. Tendulkar for all his stroke play cannot hit 6 sixes against Broad like Yuvi did. We just have to work with that cealing instead of expecting to raise their cealing.

I agree that Babar still needs to work on his power game, but I think it's worth considering that he plays a lot of his cricket on slow UAE pitches, whereas a lot of his counterparts have the advantage of playing on surfaces with more carry.

Need a larger sample of games outside the UAE to get a better judgement, but he has done quite well in South Africa and Pakistan. West Indies series looks like bad form.

Where the NZ series is concerned, first game was played on a completely atrocious wicket in Wellington. Second game, he scored 50, striking at 172.

Dude just flips a switch when he's play T20I's it's crazy how good he is in this format. Time to convert this form into the ODI's, a form in which he started of super hot in his first 2 years but in the past year or so he hasn't got the same amount of hundreds he usually gets.

Babar's Poor Record Against Srilanka in T20s Continue. . .

Babar has been superb in T20s since his debut. Surprisingly his record against Srilanka is embarrassing. Screenshot_3.jpg

Really happy that he has scored runs as captain. A massive boost for our think tank.

A little while ago a lot of us said he was too slow and now he is the backbone of our batting line up.

On paper, his innings was good yesterday, but he needs to hit more boundaries.

He showed in the National T20 Cup that he was not fazed by captaincy, albeit in a lower pressure situation.

This was a positive sign and hopefully he will continue to lead from the front.

T20 STAT: Babar Azam is dismissed every 34.3 balls he faces in T20 cricket

No other player to have played at least 100 innings is dismissed less often

The next best is Virat Kohli at 30.6

Babar Azam reaches 1500 T20I runs in his 39th innings - the joint-fastest to the mark with Virat Kohli and Aaron Finch.

That average is good but he needs to up his power game.
Yes pakistan team needs him to score consistently and maybe that's why he bats carefully but still he is unable to clear boundaries even after getting to 50.

Babar did start slowly. The problem is that on modern pitches, like today, you have to bat at a higher strike rate. Babar needs to be batting at a 140 strike rate.

He bats similar to williamson root and smith hes job is to play as many overs as possible

If he bats at 140 but only take 20 30 runs would that be okay or would you have someone to consistanly gets 50 runs but bats at 120ish

I think it's the 4-balls he misses out on that hurts his strike-rate.

He missed a couple of wide balls which should have been smashed for 4 easily.

In T20s strike rate is very important and 128 is very average strike rate..i would take Virat Rohit or KL anyday over Babar in T20s

He starts off very poorly. He accelerates afterwards but I'm sorry in this day & age his strike rate is not good enough. I believe he is just trying to be an anchor so others can bat around him. He plays the same role for Karachi Kings in the PSL & it has failed for them too.

Kohli also plays the same way for first 30 odd runs then he swifts the gear very quickly which babar is missing at the moment.

He is someone who can give you a steady start, play at 120-130 SR consistently which is pretty good when you have players who can play around him and accelerate at will. No idea how he does in the leagues though, talking purely based on his international performances so far.

He overtook Kamran, then Kamran overtook Babar, and now Babar re-overtakes Kamran :)

Does way better in fast pacy pitches and strikes at 140-150 such as the vitality blast. But cant score as freely in slower pitches such as those in pakistan.

Missed 3 full tosses even someone in PP would hit atleast 1 boundary

About to say the same. He has no power. Hafeez would've clubbed one for six at least.

Being technically sound doesn't mean not being able to hit sixes. Kohli is a touch player like babar but can hit the long ball as well.

4 full tosses now what is happening

He plays the anchor role well and he is consistent, but he really needs to improve his power game. The bad balls need to be put away.

People who say he is as good as Kohli even in T20s have no understanding of the game. 175-0 in 18 overs when your partner has a century, is criminal. Very poor knock.

At least he’s finally regained some confidence and form with that half century. Once he gets property back into form, he’ll be able to score at a quicker pace.

Currently, Rizwan is the superior batsman in t20s. And few folks said Rizwan shouldn't be playing t20s lol, it's clear which of our batsmen struggle in t20s atm.

He's a good batsman but clearly he is so overrated.

Basically Pakistan don't have any half decent batsman like him in the last 15 years that's why Pakistani's keep on comparing him with Fab 4.

Babar is too orthodox when he needs to accelerate. His innings often take the same pattern as Hashim Amla,Just needs to relax and swing the bat hard.

Hasn't really found his fluency thus far in PSL6, but he could break out of it today. 25 from 15 so far

Back to back 50's for Babar, this time off 32 balls

Match-winning 90* (60), gets his team over the line chasing 195. Phenomenal stuff

When in a chase he knows the target and bats accordingly. When setting up a target, seems content to let others bat around him.

Helped today by some of the most pathetic and spineless bowling I have seen in a long while. Usman Qadir was growing on me but today he showed either no control or even worse -terrible tactics. The less said about Afridi the better.
