[VIDEOS] Indian pace attack the greatest of all time: Mohammed Shami

The Indian bowlers, the reason for India's Test dominance over the years, have not had the best run away from home in 2022, with the side losing all three overseas games when they have had to defend a target.
I agree. I think this bowling unit isn't able to sustain pressure for longer periods of time, which is needed for a champion bowling unit.

Not sure we'll see this bowling unit in the same XI, again.

Ashwin - Great bowler but not ATG and a decent lower order batsman
Jadeja - Very good bowler and a good batsman
Bumrah - Potentially ATG bowler
Shami - Very good bowler
Siraj - Blows hot and cold, think he is going through a bad patch nothing exceptional either
Umesh - Very good in specific conditions
Prasidh - Has potential and should be a must in venues like Australia and South Africa. Need to be picked ahead of Siraj or Shami in certain conditions

To be an ATG pace attack, you got to have bowlers who can put fear into batsmen.

I can’t think beyond Bumrah, there is anyone in Indian attack who can do that.

Line and length bowling at medium pace does not an ATG attack make.

All were treated like Bangladesh bowlers by England

India has 3 ATG bowlers when playing in India Aswin,Bumrah and Jaddu but away from home only Bumrah remains a consistent threat with Shami sometimes Ashwin and Jaddu away from home are mediocre with Jaddu being just rank.

Australian legend Ricky Ponting feels Mohammed Shami's strength lies in the longest format and there are better quick bowlers in India's T20 set up, weighing in on his absence from the Asia Cup squad. India have picked Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh as the three specialist fast bowlers with all-rounder Hardik Pandya being the fourth pacer in the 15-member squad.

"He's (Shami) been a very, very good bowler for India for a long time now. If you look at his strengths, his Test cricket is probably where he thrives the most," Ponting, a two-time World Cup-winning captain, said in the latest episode of The ICC Review.

"I think there are better fast bowlers in Indian T20 cricket than Shami and they've only named three (for the Asia Cup). So if there's potentially four named in the squad he might be the fourth man in." With Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel nursing injuries, many felt Shami might be included to share the new-ball duties during the Asia Cup.

"I would think they'll probably only have the four quicks coming to Australia. They'll still want to bring a lot of spin here even though the wickets are probably not that conducive," Ponting said.

The Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and Sharjah from August 27 to September 11 and Ponting picked India as the favourites to win the tournament.

"It's always hard to go past India in any tournament, not just an Asia Cup, but I think every time we talk about the T20 World Cup which is coming up, I think that India will be right in the thick of it there," the 47-year-old said.

"Their depth is definitely better than the other teams and I think India will win the Asia Cup." Arch-rivals India and Pakistan haven't competed in a bilateral series for nearly a decade now.

"To be totally honest it's one that we've been starved of, haven't we ... looking back the last 15 or 20 years," Ponting said.

"As a cricket lover like I am and a cricket observer, any time those sorts of battles come up it's almost always nice to sit back and watch because everything just goes up a notch, doesn't it? "When I think about rivalries, Australia and England and Ashes cricket is the pinnacle I've always thought of for our Test match game. I'm sure India and Pakistanis will say the same about that and the actual rivalry would be the pinnacle of Test match cricket for those two countries as well." Ponting believes India have the depth to prevail over Pakistan.

"I'll stick with India to win that clash against Pakistan. That's taking nothing away from Pakistan because they are an incredible cricket nation that continue to present out-and-out superstar players."

To be an ATG pace bowling attack, you need two ATG pacers in my opinion.

To be an ATG bowling attack, you need two ATG bowlers.

Current Indian team has Ashwin and Bumrah, Ashwin is like Anderson( magnificent in certain conditions but okayish in rest) and Bumrah has potential to become one but he would need to do it for 60 tests atleast. One thing which this Indian attack has though is that it has bowlers for all conditions and quality in fast bowling and spin bowling both.

Shami is in a very good bowler range and Siraj blows hot and cold but at its best is an out and out match winner( Gabba 2021 and Lords 2021 for example).

In an interview with a local indian media, Shami revealed that the Indian cricket team players were not ready for the PM's visit, he said:

"We were heartbroken after the loss and were sitting dejectedly. It was like our hard work of two months got negated due to just one match. It was our bad day and we were dejected but when the PM enters, you have to keep your head high. We were not even told that Modiji was coming there and suddenly he entered. Earlier, we were not even in the mood to eat and talk to each other but when he came, it was such a big surprise for us."

LOL @ greatest of all time.

Is this a joke?

What was Windies pace attack in the 80's then?

They are aging. SHami/Ishant replacements are not quiet there yet. Siraj has flattered to deceive. India needs a bit more variety in their set up. There is a bit fo sameness now. A left arm seamer would be handy in this set up. Almost all teams have one that lends variety.

I quite like Arshdeep. Not sure why he is not in the red ball plans.

No proven track record. First time i saw was with county cricket where he bowled a lot of overs. But returns were not that great. Pace was also down. He has to get better at it. Nowadays finding test match bowler is way harder as everyone is preparing themselves for 4 over gig. Atleast this guy is trying to get better. I think Shami is at the end of his career. Umesh career is over. Once they are permanently gone others will be given chances.

As per reports, the situation with Shami is not promising. The pacer is grappling with an ankle issue during landing. He is currently in London, and while there is no immediate information about surgery, he is believed to be undergoing treatments for the ankle with injections. It is almost certain he will not be available for any match of the ongoing five-Test series. From which stage will he be able to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) scheduled for March to May is the question.
