A continuous rat-a-tat on the door of Mushtaq Ahamd Bhat and his neighbour Abdul Ghani woke them up on frosty Sunday night in Pinglena village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. As they answered the knock, army men entered their houses separated by a boundary wall of corrugated tin sheets, and searched thoroughly.
Soon they asked both Bhat and Ghani to guide them around the neighbourhood.
“He (Bhat) was taken from one side and I from the other. And as he along with army men entered a dirt lane, numerous gun shots rang out,” said Ghani.
The army men took Ghani back to his home. The bullets were continuously raining down and the whole village was dotted by forces.
A little later, much to the shock of Ghani, the soldiers, according to him, brought the lifeless blood soaked body of Bhat inside his (Ghani’s) house.
“I was left stunned. They put the body in a room and locked me and my family inside another room,” he said.
The gun fight between the forces and the militants ended after 17 hours with the killing of three militants, four soldiers and an SOG personnel. At least ten security men including Deputy Inspector General south range, an army brigadier and a Lt Colonel also suffered injuries.
In the morning, the forces allowed Ghani and his family to move to another house in the neighbourhood.
“Thereafter, I do not know what happened,” said Ghani in a rather feeble voice.
A family member of Bhat, who did not wish to be named, alleged that he (Bhat) “was killed in cold blood as the forces used him as human shield.”
He also said that the body of Bhat was handed over to them late Monday evening. “They had taken the body to Police Control Room, Srinagar and kept us waiting for hours together,” the family member said.
District police chief Chandan Kohli did not respond to the calls of this reporter.
Bhat, a father of two daughters ran a small grocery in the locality to make a living. “In just a jiffy, their life turned upside down,” said one of the wailing relatives of Bhat.
Amid shrieks and sobs, Bhat was consigned to grave on Tuesday morning in his ancestral grave yard.

I am shocked to see how many hindus today openly ask for Kashmiri muslims genocide in India.
It is quite crazy but i am very glad that we are only just beating some people up so far and have not turned our bedroom and workplace thoughts to action.
Many years ago, if you talked about genocide of Kashmiris at workplace or during family friends meetings etc, you'd be looked at with utter disbelief in eyes, nowadays no one blinks an eye and most people even support such psychopathic ideas.
Muslims in India today are alone and suffer humiliation on daily basis by hindu nationalists.
It is sad state of affairs.
I hang my head in shame simply. These mad people have nothing in common with me.

Good post. I think Indians brought it upon themselves by voting for an extremist like Modi under whose rule we have seen the emergence of Hindutva goons .
If Modi gets another term in 2019 elections then it could be disastrous for India in the long run.
If I say something is shameful, then I mean it is something I cannot support, something I want not to happen, and something that if I were in the vicinity I would try to stop from happening.
When I wrote "having said that", it was an analysis of why people act in shameful ways, the reasons why they are led to act in ways that are shameful, and in ways they should not. Extreme provocation can lead to otherwise decent people to act in ways they should not. The fact that they are otherwise decent does not give them license to act in a shameful manner.

I remain hopeful that we will eventually have the last laugh and get rid of this trash in India.
The positive side of mine just thinks that destiny wishes things go so bad for India that this little period in our history becomes an example forever to the coming generations, that this is how low we went as a country under these people. Never let it happen. I remain hopeful.

I've met, interacted and known diverse types of Kashmiris.
A Kashmiri girl who openly supported Pak (2007 WC Final) knowing full well that the rest of us were too 'cosmopolitan' to get triggered outwardly.
Another during a modeling/personality contest was like, I wanna destroy India when asked what his ambitions were. This was during the prelims and we all laughed and even cheered for him cuz we took it in spirit. He made it to the final. In the finals, he again said some stuff like this but was booted out for not knowing when a joke had run its course.
On the other side, I've known decent hardworking Kashmiris running handicrafts shops in temple towns just trying to make a honest living for people back home.
This video makes me sad because I'm assuming this guy is just a regular guy trying to make his way through life and the impact this incident is gonna have on his outlook. You have probably fundamentally changed the way a person now looks at life and things.

Oh how beautiful to know loss of life inflames passions in India. Did you for a second think about 350 Kashmiris who were killed last year along with thousands who were tortured/raped/injured/blinded may have inflamed some passion in Kashmiris as well? Of course all those stone pelting kids who risk their lives are all terrorists for you guys but to them their fight is against injustice and occupation.
You can blame Pakistan all you want but i can guarantee you this trouble in Kashmir wont end anytime soon with this sort of attitude.

Sure, I thought about the Kashmiris killed. I also thought about the 500,000 killed in Iraq and Syria the last 5 years. I thought about the 20,000 killed in Ukraine, and the many thousands killed in Libya. I also thought about the thousands killed in India in other conflicts.
Every life is of equal value, whether it be Kashmiri or someone else. However, that does not mean that India should let Kashmir go. The integrity of a country is also of value, just like human lives are valuable. India is not going to break up, and the sooner people realize this fact from the real world, the sooner the killing can stop. The Indian government and the will of the Indian people to maintain the integrity of the country is too strong to be overcome. The country breaking up is a leap into a dark unknown and the Indians reject this idea.
The Kashmiris can choose to stop the violence, and live like other Indians live with full democratic rights. The state has fantastic resources, they will prosper.

Indeed, every mother and every father love her son equally, whether it is a Kashmiri or an Indian soldier. I agree that Kashmiris have reason to be angry.
The solution is that they live like other Indians do, with full democratic rights. They are not something special that they can leave the country just because they want to. They may think that they are different from other Indians, but other Indians like Nagas, Marathis, Tamils, Punjabis etc. are also different from each other. Just because they are different doesn't give them the right to leave the country. If they did not have the same democratic rights like other Indians, then they would have a case. Just saying "I don't care if I can vote, I don't want to be part of the country" is unacceptable.
"No taxation without representation" was a reasonable demand of the Americans. The Kashmiris however have representation, case closed.
I agree with this. India is not going to break up, it is too resilient for that to happen. But when someone like Tathagat Roy (governor of a state, no less) sprouts rubbish about Kashmiris, then he should've been packed out of Raj bhawan. But as they say, andher nagri, chaupat raja.

The situation so worst that presently I am studying higher studies in Haryana state and I am afraid to go outside my room since the blast took place. I am unable to attend any classes and go to market bcz of the fear that I might get thrashed. Better to leave my studies and go home.

Kashmiris live under the weight of 3/4ths of India's army of 1M living in their homeland and committing genocide. Their situation is nothing like any other Indian's.
I know what comes next. Debate and dispute on how and why the army is there. It will require courage and honesty to acknowledge the reality of the situation in Kashmir.
Yes, he's breading a dangerous culture where our own people are turning against eachother. At this rate, we don't need Pakistan to divide India.

Man, so sorry to hear this. As an outsider from far far away, I want to say please do not quit your studies as it is your path to a better life. But I get that ground realities can be different. Perhaps just stay low until situation improves?
I personally saw many Kashmiris in South India during my time there. You should consider going there for your studies since South has been more isolated from Pakistan focused rivalries and you can focus on your education and career instead of fearing for life.
Mustang is right, education is important. In Tamil Nadu they don't care, and in Kerala there is a fairly large population of Muslims so you will be okay. I am from Bengal and I believe you will be safe there too. There are many other states where you will be okay, if you do a bit of research you will be able to find out.

Even in the dire straits he finds himself in, that is a bridge too far. There’s a palpable pause before he eventually complies (and who wouldn’t comply in those circumstances), but he does so incredibly reluctantly.
Second, the leader of the mob acknowledges that 90 percent of Kashmiris support Pakistan. Perhaps the impotent rage stems from this gut wrenching realization?

This is pathetic. Some evil people from Kashmir and Pakistan did this. But ordinary people from those places had nothing to do with the terror attack. This is the legacy of Modi's government, BJP has perfected the art of mob lynchings and this has become second nature to many Indians. Total law and order collapse. Others must take lessons from South Indian states (especially Kerala, Tamil Nadu) and Bengal's Mamata, there will be troublemakers everywhere but police has to step up and ensure law and order. Leaders need to take strong stance and assure all civilians of safety. This is election season, there will be many party workers who would want to ignite passions for electoral dividends, people need to be extra careful.

Truth is India has become really intolerant since Modi came into power. And Indiaans have become highly anti-islam/muslims, obnoxious, intolerant, islamophobs, and I’ve seen in most youtube, fb trollings they disrespecting Islam, Allah, Muhammad pbuh, always mostly bring religion into it. Obviously then muslims troll back, not saying the muslims are angels but I’ve seen them start the religion disrespect first. Seems like they take pride in disrespecting Islam and muslims online!

It is bad that you have to go through all these troubles, it is quite sad really. No one deserves this. I think it is best you stay out of main land India for your own safety. Lets be honest; you don't like main land India and main land Indians don't like the fact you don't like mother India, your posts on PP have shown clear indication you don't like main land India, so it is best you find another country to do your studies in, after all why study in a land that you despise ? so it will benefit your safety and future..
