Would be very frustrating if this was rained out. Hopefully we can bowl them out for under 100 😂

Would be interested to see how Tahir Hussain goes. From pics he seems the tallest out of the pacers, and well built as well.

I hope Shehzad performs in this otherwise he has been picked over many deserving cricketers

Tahir Hussain double-strike in the first over...

Both openers bowled.

What a find Tahir Hussain is. 4 wickets against Sri Lanka and now 3 in the first 10 overs of this match, granted that yes it’s against Scotland. Excited to see how he performs against Bangladesh U19 and potentially India U19. Full credit to Ijaz Ahmed for picking him by looking past the stats. Here’s a quote from Ijaz’s interview a couple days ago: “We also have a bowler Tahir Hussain who has played U19; I told him that in 6 matches you only have 9 wickets but he explained to me to say that a lot of his catches were dropped; The confidence with which he spoke and the fact that in 2 trial games he got our top player Haider Ali and also took 3 wickets with the new ball, so he bowls well with the new ball”

Pakistan’s been looking for a good new ball bowler for a while, this kid very well may be it.

It is all good to see fast bowlers doing well but what we need is a quality batsmen from this lot.

Mohammad Wasim 2 wickets in the same over.

Pak19 12/2 in 3.1 overs chasing 75 crr 3.6
not an ideal start chasing a low total :)

Batting woes will always be there..no matter what level.

Shehzad looks like a parchi player

Didn't do much in the warm ups and now this

As expected, everything will depend on Rohail in terms of batting.

On what basis was this Shehzad kid selected? He’s never played U-19 cricket and his U-16 performances aren’t extravagant either.

Why hasn’t Haris opened?

He opened in the warm ups and did pretty well

Wasim five-fer

Perhaps the new generation will have a different attitude to fielding compared to generations past

Mate, could you please give a couple of brief profiles on what their strengths are, why they're great etc? Thanks

Haven't seen them but their stats are extremely impressive, most importanly their strike rate in the middle overs. These two were one of the reasons why we whitewashed South Africa

Exactly my point he has no credentials..hurraira top run getter in both formats shud be ahead of him..only reason i was happy about shehzad was an opener who bowls but he hasnt bowled at all

Well that's the first win in the bag, a real confidence booster. I haven't seen the Pakistan wickets but both openers were LB and Rohail got bowled after being well set. I think it was clear from their run rate that Pakistan were trying to go aggressive. That plus some complacency may gave resulted in the early wickets

This is a serious talent, was not expecting he was that good, wow.

Waseem, Tahir bowl Pakistan U19 to crushing win over Scotland

Potchefstroom, 19 January 2020:

Fast bowlers Mohammad Waseem and Tahir Hussain blew away Scotland U19 as Pakistan U19 got off to the perfect start in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020 with a seven-wicket win at the North West University Oval, Potchefstroom on Sunday.

Scotland, who won the toss and opted to bat first, lost both openers in the opening over of the match as Tahir Hussain, playing his first match for Pakistan, sent the stumps of Angus Guy and Ben Davidson flying.

Tahir then added the wicket of Tomas Mackintosh, who top-scored for Scotland with 20 runs, to his tally.

Waseem took over from there. The right-arm pacer’s first wicket was of Jasper Davidson as he made full use of the opportunity with a probing spell of pace bowling.

Abbas Afridi took two quick wickets before Waseem polished off the tail taking the last four wickets as Scotland were sent packing for 75 in 23.5 overs.

Waseem took five wickets for mere 12 runs in 7.5 overs.

Tahir took three for 23 in nine overs, while Abbas took two for 32 in six overs.

It took only 11.4 overs for Pakistan to chase down the target.

Their run-chase was off to a shaky start as openers Haider Ali (four) and Mohammad Shehzad (0) were back in the pavilion in the first eight balls.

Captain Rohail Nazir and Irfan Khan weathered the storm with a 47-run stand for the second-wicket.

Rohail scored 27 off 23 balls, which included two fours a six, while Irfan returned not out with 38 runs to his name. The right-handed batsman faced 37 balls, of which six were dispatched for fours.

Pakistan take on Zimbabwe U19 in their second group match on 22 January.

Scores in brief:

Scotland U19 75 all out, 23.5 overs (Uzzair Shah 20, Tomas Mackintosh 17; Mohammad Waseem 5-12, Tahir Hussain 3-23, Abbas Afridi 2-32)

Pakistan U19 77-3, 11.4 overs (Irfan Khan 38 not out, Rohail Nazir 27)

Result Pakistan U19 win by seven wickets

Upcoming fixtures:

22 Jan – v Zimbabwe, Potchefstroom

24 Jan – v Bangladesh, Potchefstroom

He looks 145 kph plus bowler from the highlights package.

Who Wasim, I don;t think so. Unlike Tahir, his runup is not that smooth and does not carry the runup rhythm build up to the delivery stride, hence compromising his speed but has good control. He is more like 130-135 bowler.

Glad that the match happened and didnt rain off.

Our batting is way too weak to pass quarter. Most of the batsmen are rubbish and bowlers are average.

Job done.

Tougher tests lie ahead, but a good start.

I would say that 130-135 might be his ceiling. He looks around 125ish from those wickets package. He does seem to have a good grip/wrist position on the ball and looks like the guy who can keep it tight and bowl stump to stump plus he looks tall, should be a handful on these wickets.

If he can bowl at 135 mph that is pretty good at this level. You won't find many u19 players who can regularly bowl at 140+

Good stuff. Really want this team to win and Ijaz Ahmed to climb the ranks as well. Would prefer individuals like him coaching us over Misbah.
