Moin Khan was awful as WK until RL Came, and even then his WK only improved to the level of FC players, Kami was good until he had no competition and then his love for food and a finger injury made him into a joke and although Sarfi was good throughout his career, he would have been even better if Riz had put on some more heat.

I think Bari deserves a mention here. Though he was a poor bat.

It's so difficult to compare keepers across eras because the game has changed so much.

In the era of WK batsmen it's definitely Rizwan. We have only really had Rizwan, Sarfraz and Kami.

In terms of pure gloves work Rizwan is solid also.

Yes for sure.
I think same applies to Pant. Right now some have already crowned him as GOAT Bharatiya wk batsman in tests and he’s getting out playing silly shots.

What even is best wicket keeper? I can only think of Mark Boucher being an exception because he was godly behind the stumps.

Don't get me wrong their have been great keepers like Dhoni who had that throwing ability, Sanga who would typically run pre maturely to give himself more room to dive and catch edges etc.

But they were all proper batsmen. Boucher is the only exception where I wouldn't mind playing him at no 8 just for his glovework alone.

Amazing player in tests, good in Odis but extremely mediocre in t20s.

On wicketkeeping skills alone he is the best in the world.

A keeper averaging 40+ in tests along with great keeping abilities is an invaluable asset.

In odis, he can play run a ball innings and is a good chaser. In wc 2023 he played an amazing innings vs SriLanka, even in Asia cup he did well against Bangladesh.

He lacks the 5th gear and will never be able to smash bowlers at will even when he is full set.

I don’t understand all this hate or undue criticism of Rizwan. Yes don’t big him up but he is a decent wicket keeper batsman for sure averaging 40 plus with the bat in all three formats. His keeping is tidy if not supreme (rarely drops catches or misses stumpings) + made runs in South Africa and against Windies. He is not supposed to carry the batting and it is not his fault if the rest of our batting currently sucks.

As I said it makes no difference what you and your Mochi friend say. Riz isn't going anywhere and is the best WK in international cricket. His WK to spinners is a work of art at times, and he is very good to pacers( with the weakness i have pointed out before)
