But overall quite raw and looked inexperienced
Good prospect for Pakistan
 
Hope this kid doesnt get forgotten about in first class.
So much to work with here, despite how he started i liked what i saw
 
just some context, the kid has only played 2 first class games prior to the PSL, otherwise he has had no senior cricket , yet he still looks so promising

He needs a lot of work. I think Karachi Kings would suit him better, Azhar Mahmood should work with him. Lahore Qalandars is a mess of a team.

The opposition was 85-0 and he still ran it and gave it some heat so the kid is fine and needs some grooming.

LQ is the wrong team for him, I agree.

MS, IQ or KK would be better.

He collapses towards the right a tad to early, if he can rectify that he can add a yard of pace.
 
He'll just be another Anwar Ali Khan who represented the senior side on a few occassions or the uncapped Jamshed Ahmed, remember those two?. Hardly any of Pak's U 19 boy's form a successful international career. No batting stars at all will come for Pak from this group of players after what we saw in the recent U 19 world cup tournament.

Going average so far, even below that. I hope he show some fire in upcoming games.
 
Did as well I expected. Showed that he has good potential just needs to be groomed and coached properly. If someone's disappointed then he had some outlandish expectations from a 17 year old.

yup, of course, he can either only be terrible, or only be brilliant, nothing in between.

If you expected a 17 year old to blow a competitive league in half in his first few games, the issue is on your end, rather than his ability.
 
Bowls pretty good shortballs, and a thinking bowler. If he adds 5km or so more pace then he would be a genuine threat. He should focus more on first class cricket and try to make into Pakistan test team (replace M Abbas)
 
He’s raw.. PPers need to chill out and realise they have a special talent on their hands.
 
Not even a single wicket in 3 matches, also he's giving away too many runs.

Irshad should replace him for a few matches.
 
He is a wonderful prospect. Good height, attitude and decent pace. Should pitch it up more with the new ball. He should not be judged on T20 performances.
 
Leave him alone for couple of years.. he has all the ingredients.. lets see if he can come up with something tasty. I think you guys are being too harsh on him
 
Unpopular opinion: He is not ready for this level yet and not every fast bowler can burst into the stage in their teens. Sharjah will be a lot less forgiving to him than Dubai.

Amir won us a world cup at 17!
 
He bowled well in the Under 19 World Cup. Not sure how he is doing in the Pyjama League but someone like Wasim should guide him.

In his first 3 matches? Unless I am mistaken Amir had a few series under his belt before that. He had been mentored by Waqar and Asif. Plus Amir was exceptionally talented for his age, you don't start expecting every 17 year old to start performing at the same level. 16 year old Afridi scored the fastest hundred, do you expect every new guy to be able to do that. Not everyone can start performing at the top level with so little experience. Some people need to be seasoned and worked upon, that doesn't diminish their potential or imply that they are not good enough. As a 17 year he can improve exponentially. I expected Shaheen to fail even worse than he has, it was the reasonable thing. His potential is what mattered and he showed plenty of it.

And Amir didn't win us a WC. There were many other guys involved who contributed more than him. He played an important role no doubt.

No one is going to or should replace M Abbas anytime soon in Tests. Best domestic FC stats a couple of years running and averaging 21 in Tests so far on the flattest of pitches. He's a very good bowler.
 
Has all the ingredients. Needs to learn the art of picking up wickets of good batsmen. Modern day cricket will never be a good training ground for a 17 year old, unless he's a mystery spinner. The step up from under-19 cricket is just too big.
 
I'm sure playing in the league will be a good learning for him in the long run.

Now he knows that he needs to go back to the drawing board and improve himself.

As mentioned above, the step up from U19 is immense.
 
People are expecting miracles from a 17 year old.He has all the right ingredients to become a good bowler.He needs a couple of seasons in first class cricket.Pakistan doesn't have good bowling coaches.PCB should hire a reputable foreign bowling coach.There a quite a few young bowlers who can benefit from good coaching..T20 is not real cricket.It is entertainment.People go and see T20 matches whereas before they used to go to movies.

I think he looks interesting. He is not as quick as I thought he would be at this stage, but there is something about him that can be worked on.
 
This is the wrong format and standard to use as gauge for future success or failure. I dont fault him for making money, rather I applaud it. But if he wants to break in to the national team, he needs quite a few more overs under his belt in domestic cricket.
 
I am little worried about him, he has talent and teams/leagues would look towards him, because of his unique assets. But T20 is not ideal format to develop somebody, its explosive and unforgiving. Also, he is tall, his body is still developing, getting your body ready for 145 clicks takes more time. I remember Strac was hovering around 138-140 in first 2/3 years, then he jump to 145 then he become leathel (but injury prune too, generally its not easy to main pace and fitness.

In T20, you bowl less but explosive more like sprint than marathon (test), that does not mean its easy, you need different kind of muscular strength. There is very little rest, that does not allow people to develop themselves, Amir is constantly bowling for 2 years, that has not helped.

Plus in T20 you focus on too many things in only 24 balls, you try to take wickets, then defensive lengths, varieties, bouncers and yorkers, all in span of 4 over, which is hard for inexperience players, stage is big. Unfortunately T20 is becoming the bench mark for success.

Still, I hope one or two good games, will give him lot of confidence and bring him back to where we want to see him. Although LQ is the worst team to play for in this IPL, they are in big mess
 
I was hoping he would be under the mentorship of someone else rather than aqib javed

His average pace is mid 130's but his effort ball in close to 145 which shows with better fitness and technique he can hit 140 average speed in couple of years
 
Not as impressive as I was led to believe

With fast bowlers if they have the X-Factor they have it from the very start and you can tell it

Obv he may work hard and become a top level bowler but doesnt seem like he can get anywhere near elite fast bowler territory (ala Wasim, Steyn) at any time in his career
 
What did you expect from a 17 year old bowling under a coach like Aqib Javed?

Reasons for his poor show:

Aqib Javed
Inexperience
Pitches
Age (he is only 17 and still growing in terms of Physical and mental strength)

In that order.

Shaheen's career will be set back years under Aqib. Already he is 'working' on his action
 
Just because he is struggling in the T20 circuis esque tournament; people are already disregarding his talent?

He is just 17; he has a lot to learn. Go watch his performances in the World cup - he definitely has something in him. Potential is there. Right now, this PSL is a great experience for him but in reality, he should not have been picked because he is very inexperienced and raw. Definitely talented and potential in him though.

As far as I remember Amir was rocking it at 17. Shahdab also started at similar age with same PSL.

No body "improves" in Pakistan system so best of luck.
 
Yes he didnt shatter the earth but I hope few of you guys have noticed that he has the ability to produce some wicket taking deliveries.

Yes he didnt get any wickets so far but He almost got Sanga against MS through the ball seaming in and taking inside edge. If he would have gotten that wicket opinions of many would have been different and Shaheen would have been more confident.

That LBW appeal against Denly where bowled moved in sharply against a set right handed batsman.

That over where he started with two good bouncers to Ingram at good pace and than a yorker to outplay him which didnt turn out to be success but still you have to give it to guy for even having a plan and executing in perfectly.

Guy has got temperament, he doesnt feel pressure (Which is a big thing for a 17 year old), yes he did have bit of nerves but mainly because he knew he hasnt been able to create a big impact till now. He has got height, he has got pace and good amount of brain.

These three matches were the lowest point of his careers considering the stakes for him were pretty high and he didnt perform well. However, I can only see him improving from here.

Shadab only make his PSL debut last year, and there’s doubts over his real age.

Did Hasan Ali not improve?

He’s with the wrong franchise, would’ve been better off with Zalmi or KK.
 
Can't judge him right now based on T20s but just looking at him in these two matches, he doesn't look like breaking into the Pakistan team any time soon. Needs to pitch the ball up consistently. Just because he's tall, it should not lull him into bowling short of a length or short pitch deliveries.
 
Streaky...has followed up boundary balls with good follow up deliveries and bouncers - its been hit and miss.

But there is something there, given we have Hasan, Abbas, Amir, Shinwari - be good if Shaheen could focus on being a menace option, with discipline, even if he isn't tear-away fast.

Morne Morkel would be a good example.

Do you think with good coaching he can be international quality in one or two years,He lack intelligence and is too raw,though the ingredients are there.

Absolutely true, but unfortunately the PSL is the only venue in which to "discover" players these days, it seems, regardless of the format. Domestic performance otherwise means little.

No. Hassan was always a nippy bowler. Difficult to play. Thats why he was selected for international team.

Shahdab wont be more than 20.

Watch a video of Hasan in England on his first tour and then watch a more recent video, he’s improved leaps and bounds. Although, he he always had the ability and so does Shaheen.
 
Expectations for Shaheen have to be realistic at the PSL.

He's just a young lad and this is all part of his development.
 
He's 17. Can't write him off yet. I would prefer him to be bowling more overs in first class cricket as this will build his bowling muscles and also improve his bowling intelligence. Would be great for him to work with Azhar or another professional bowling coach. Can't trust Aqib unfortunately.
 
Last game was a blunder by Mac - shouldn't have finished Narine & M'fiz by 17th. Sohail probably went for more, which is hidden by those 2 meaningless wickets. SSA needs to bowl lot in match condition and bowl for longer spells.
 
This can very much put a dent in his confidence and if he doesn't get proper guidance and care we may not see him on international stage. Players confidence plays a very important part in their development.

Mccullun is pretty average captain to be honest. He overdoes aggression stuff and doesn't play according to his strengths and oppostion's weakness. His approach won't suite all teams and not a repeatable process. From what I read here on the forum about his current PSL season, he seems to be not all that interested and has been aloof.. May be it is time to let him go
