[VIDEOS] Scott Boland - The second man with Indigenous Australian heritage to play Test cricket for Australia

He's been consistently excellent.

Reminds me a lot of Stuart Clarke- guy who came on the international scene well experienced but whose reliability and relentlessness as a style (as opposed to bowling hoops around corners or 110 mph) was just enhanced at the top level by having better partners to bowl with and leave zero options for batsmen to relieve pressure.

Does Australia have 1 drop rule too? Scott Boland is white for me. If I see him in the street, I will say he is white.

33 wickets in his first 8 Tests at an average of 14.57.

Just keeps putting the ball in the right areas and has the ability to move it around at a good pace.

Exceptional bowler.

This guy will be a handful for Pakistani batters later this year.

This could get messy.

Mohammad Ali is a similar bowler but fans on here have already written him off based on 3 test matches on highways in Pakistan.

Exactly my thoughts. Mohammad Ali is very similar to boland. I think if we take him to England, he could be very effective. And if they discard him before trying him on a livelier pitch then Babar would have to be regarded as a poor judge of talent.

"Green is mediocre". What a statement. Green is going to be the best test cricketer in the world in the next two years, if he stays fit.

Mediocre seamer yes

Oh maybe he is world class for Pakistan bowling standards

I made a similar point on the treatment of Mohammed Ali in the Mohammad Ali thread.

He didn't just play on highways, he played on highways with a clueless test captain and zero support from other bowlers.

The poor lad didn't stand a chance.

What's mediocre about him?

6.7 height, 87-88 mph, good control.

He will probably focus more on his batting in future, but even if he were a pure seamer, he has plenty of potential.

Boland vs India and Boland vs England... What a huge difference?

Odd decision not to pick Boland for the 2nd Test?

Surely Hazlewood could have been dropped?

Interested to see how he will bowl on his home ground. Last time he played here he took 6/7 against England. My guess is, he will be a handful for the Indian batsmen with his lengths.

16 overs
4 wickets
19 runs
7 maidens

Awesome spell today against India in the 5th and final Test at MCG

What a stunning bowler Scott Boland is turning out to be

10/76 in the 5th test match against India.

Scott Boland is named Player of the Match for this match-winning performance.

Where are the pace is pace yaar brigade who glorify mapakha debut?
Scott Boland debut at 31 and winning test series at 35. That too as a back up pacer.

This guy has been robbed of a great and potentially even legendary test career.

Where the hell was he all these years??
He has every single attribute of a great test bowler. Metronomic accuracy, Immense height and decent pace. How was he overlooked all these years?

Hard to know if he is just one of those who peaked later in their career. Unless you’re relying on express pace like 155 KPH, some pacers typically peak around age 28 through 36 in test cricket when they have their skills down to a science.

He's up there with the best in the world on good pitches. Such a brilliant seam bowler in favourable conditions.

On flat roads, he doesn't have a weapon other than his accuracy, and he doesn't seem to have any strategy against the sloggers - the "Bazball" English took to him by ignoring traditional shots, running down the wicket and lofting over fieldsmen, lap shots and ramps, etc. His accuracy and consistency was turned into a weakness. He's not fast enough to trouble them with bounce, so without sideways movement he needs another trick (change of pace and sleight of hand variations).

He's the 4th pace bowler, much like Fleming was stuck behind McGrath/Lee/Gillespie - he'll retire 50 tests and 200 wickets short of where he could have.

Maybe Buffet can also tell us Boland is the best bowler in history, suprassing Wasim and Waqar and Bumrah seeing as unlike Bumrah he has helped his team 2 major Test series.

Best bowling average against India in Test matches since 2000 (minimum 15 wickets).

Scott Boland well is 34 years old, quite strange but yes hard to be in playing XI when you have Starc Cummins Hazlewood, that's 800+ Test wickets :holding

Buffet has time and again said that he judges pace bowlers by how they did away, So why will he say that about Boland who averages 48 away ?
Seriously, you guys should take a course on logic somewhere.

SUch a likable guy. Given his age and his niche skills he may not play a whole lot of Tests. But he can be added as 4th seamer as well alongwith Hazlewood. They can sit Lyon out if they are going to offer pitch like this. Head can share the overs.

Best bowling average in Test cricket (min. 50 wickets):

10.75 - George Lohmann (112 wkts)
12.70 - JJ Ferris (61 wkts)
15.54 - Billy Barnes (51 wkts)
16.42 - Billy Bates (50 wkts)
16.43 - Sydney Barnes (189 wkts)
16.53 - Charles Turner (101 wkts)
16.98 - Bobby Peel (101 wkts)
17.67 - Scott Boland (56 wkts)

Cummins likely to miss Sri Lanka tour which may give Boland a spot in the playing eleven.

Boland in the dark on World Test Championship Final selection

Scott Boland put forward his case for selection ahead of Josh Hazlewood less than a week out from the Ultimate Test.

Australia quick Scott Boland has admitted he remains in the dark whether he will win a spot in the playing XI for his side's ICC World Test Championship defence against South Africa at Lord's next week.

Boland was one of Australia's best bowlers when they won their first World Test Championship mace at The Oval in 2023 and has further boosted his credentials in recent times by playing a starring role in helping the team win the Border-Gavaskar series against India earlier this year.

But Boland remains in a head-to-head battle with IPL-winning seamer Josh Hazelwood for one fast bowling spot in the Ultimate Test against the Proteas that commences on June 11 and the experienced 36-year-old revealed he has been given no communication from selectors about his spot in the XI.

"I haven't had any chats with them (selectors)," Boland said in London on Thursday.

"My goal coming into the last two months is just to get myself and my body in the position where I can put my hand up and be ready to go if it (selection) goes my way.

"I probably felt like back into the Shield season (Australian domestic red-ball competition) my knee was sort of not wearing away but wasn't going how I wanted it to go and didn't feel like I was bowling how I wanted, but now I feel like I'm in a really good spot that I can bowl how I want to bowl.

"It's pulling up really well so that's all I can do and I just want to make that decision (for selectors) as hard as possible."

The one advantage Boland does have over Hazlewood is that he managed a lengthy spell at training in Beckenham on Wednesday as the Aussies snuck in their first practice session since arriving in the United Kingdom.

Hazlewood only landed in London later that same night after he won the IPL Final with Royal Challengers Bangalore and persistent rain in the nation’s capital on Thursday saw training cancelled and robbed the consistent seamer the chance for a first session with his Australian teammates.

Boland knows how good Hazlewood can be when he is at full fitness, but further pushed his own case for selection by pointing out he has collected a total of 16 wickets in his most recent two Test appearances for Australia and is coming off a 10-wicket match haul in the deciding Border-Gavaskar contest against India.

"I feel like I had a couple of really strong games (during the Border-Gavaskar series), but Josh is obviously a world-class bowler. He's one of the best bowlers in the world, coming off a really good IPL so I'm sure he'll be doing the same thing here (to push his case for selection),” Boland noted.

"Obviously we all want to play, but there's probably not room for all of us."

If Boland does win selection for Australia in the World Test Championship Final it will be the first time he has ever played at the iconic Lord's venue and the burly right-armer admitted featuring at the Home of Cricket would be extra special if he does receive the chance.

"I'd love to play at Lord's," Boland said.

"I think everyone's looking forward to getting there for training in a few days' time and then getting to the game as it's a pretty special place for cricket."
