Adelaid strikers is unlikely because they have Rashid Khan. Could be Perth scorchers because the leggie they have Peter Hatzoglou is going for over 8 an over in this edition.

I think he will need to do 14 days quarantine so he could play from the 6th of Jan.

Reminds me of posters crying about Amir choosing T20 leagues over domestic cricket.

The term ‘chasing money’ was used, but when it’s someone else then no one bats an eye. Hypocrites.

I'm not sure who you are taking a dig at, but PCB had given permission to T20 specialists to go play BBL so they improve their T20 skills in Australian conditions.

Both of these weren't selected for the QEA teams that were going to play the final rounds.

I don't think its a bad deal for both parties. With injuries to Tom Curran & Carlos Braithwaite, Sixers needed a overseas players, hence Thunder bringing in Hasnain for Mahmood, in case he was called in to the England team.

Shadab is a good T20 player and seeing him go to Australia will do him a lot good.

Mamoon how do you feel about this signing. Would you like to congratulate Shadab for reaching new heights and earning well?

Shadab is going to be a specialist T20 player. He does not have the consistency for longer formats.

Sixers should have signed up a young Australian instead of a mediocre overseas player.

Shadab is 9th ranked T20I bowler in the world. How is he mediocre?

What were his 2021 T20I stats again? Something like sub 20 bowling average, economy in the 6s, batting SR of 170.

If anything, Shadab increases the brand value of BBL, which actually has quite a few mediocre local players.

From what we have seen in recent years, Australia has no proper young cricketers coming up.

Shadab is a legend compared to them.

Not to mention an absolutely gun fielder.

In my opinion there are few players in international cricket (let alone in Australia) who have a brighter than him.

Shadab's a good t20 player. Should make a decent impact in the BBL.

Wrist spinners valuable in any LO setting, plus he's got an all round game.

Cricket in Australia is in a funny place. Just getting the first generations of players through now who have been targetting t20 as much as long format.

Sixers bolster spin stocks with international ace

Two-time defending champions the Sydney Sixers have landed a major coup, signing Pakistan star Shadab Khan for the remainder of KFC BBL|11.

The prodigious talent, who debuted for his country in all three formats as a teenager, joins the Sixers following a season ending neck stress fracture to off-spinner Ben Manenti and a short-term calf strain to veteran tweaker Steve O’Keefe.

It will be the leg spinning sensation's second stint in the competition after he played three games for the Brisbane Heat in BBL|07 as a 19-year-old.

In those three games he collected six wickets as an impressive economy rate of 7.08, giving Sixers fans a glimpse of what they can expect for the rest of the summer.

The 23-year-old, who is known as an exceptional turner of the ball, burst onto the scene during the 2016-17 Pakistan Super League season with Islamabad United.

He made his T20I debut in March 2017 against the West Indies as a 19-year-old, before following it up with his Test and ODI debuts the next month.

The right-armer has since played 64 T20Is for Pakistan where's he's collected 73 wickets at 21.79 with an excellent economy rate of 7.11.

Shadab played all six of Pakistan’s matches at the T20 World Cup last month, collecting nine wickets for the tournament, including a haul of 4-26 in the semi-final loss to Australia where he dismissed David Warner, Mitch Marsh, Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell.

He has also played six Tests and 48 ODIs for Pakistan. Shadab could also provide some valuable lower order hitting to the Sixers’ lengthy batting line-up, as he has a first-class hundred to his name and a highest T20 score of 77.

Shadab is the fifth Pakistan signing announced for BBL|11 and joins Haris Rauf, Syed Faridoun and Ahmad Daniyal (Melbourne Stars) and Muhammad Hasnain (Sydney Thunder) in this year's tournament.

Sixers head coach Greg Shipperd said he was excited at the prospect of working with Shadab.

"Shadab joins us as cover for the bowlers we have lost and comes together with two other young and exciting spinners in Lloyd Pope and Todd Murphy," he said.

"All three young men are still learning their craft but have shown at various levels that they can be world class.

"We welcome Shadab’s skills in all three facets of the game and can’t wait to see him get an opportunity in coming matches."

The Sixers, who sit second on the table behind the undefeated Perth Scorchers, next play the Thunder in the Sydney Smash on Boxing Day at Sydney Showground Stadium.

It's unclear at the moment if Shadab will have cleared COVID protocols to be available to play in that game or whether he will make his first appearance in the following match against his old club the Heat on December 29.

Prodigious Pakistani leg spinner Shadab Khan has joined the two-time defending champion Sydney Sixers for the remainder of KFC BBL|11.

Shadab joins the Sixers as an overseas player and comes following a season ending neck stress fracture for off spinner Ben Manenti and short term calf strain to veteran tweaker Steve O’Keefe.

The 23-year-old Shadab made his debut for Pakistan in all three formats whilst still a teenager and now has 64 T20I matches under his belt, having taken 73 wickets at an economy rate of 7.11. He also averages 18.33 with the bat at a strike rate of 136.81.

At the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Shadab played in all six matches for Pakistan, taking nine wickets, including a haul of 4/26 and the scalps of Dave Warner, Mitch Marsh, Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell in their five-wicket loss to Australia.

Shadab played three matches for the Brisbane Heat in the middle of BBL|07, snaring two wickets in each of his outings.

Sixers head coach Greg Shipperd was excited at the prospect of working with Shadab.

“Shadab joins us as cover for the bowlers we have lost and comes together with two other young and exciting spinners in Lloyd Pope and Todd Murphy,” Shipperd said.

“All three young men are still learning their craft but have shown at various levels that they can be world class.

“We welcome Shadab’s skills in all three facets of the game and can’t wait to see him get an opportunity in coming matches.”

The Sixers next play the Sydney Thunder in the Sydney Smash on Boxing Day at Sydney Showground Stadium, followed by the Brisbane Heat at the SCG on December 29. They then head on a five match road trip that includes two big fixtures at their second home, Coffs Harbour on January 1 and 9.

When is his first game?

It's unclear at the moment if Shadab will have cleared COVID protocols to be available to play in that game or whether he will make his first appearance in the following match against his old club the Heat on December 29.

Listed as sub for Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers, 20th Match

Was at the match today, he was there but still under covid restrictions. Was the only player with mask on the field while warming up etc. He was an x factor player but was waiting on covid test (I think)

Thanks for that. Any pictures of him with a mask etc?

The Sixers next face the Heat at the SCG on December 29 where they are likely to welcome star Pakistan leg spinner Shadab Khan into their XI, while the Thunder face Scorchers in Canberra in two days' time.

Missed yet another season of FC.

To be honest Shadab is a proven performer in white ball cricket, plus he will hardly have any role to play in red ball for Pakistan.

As such I am OK if he partly misses the FC season.

Lloyd Pope can't wait to pick the brain of fellow leg-spinner Shadab Khan, who looms as the ace up the Sydney Sixers' sleeve as they pursue a third straight KFC BBL title.

Pope snared 2-33 in Sunday night's Sydney Smash, helping the Sixers record a 30-run win in the rain-affected contest.

The Sixers named Shadab as an X-factor substitute in that match against the Sydney Thunder, hoping the Pakistan star's COVID-19 test result would come back in time for him to enter the fray.

There was no such luck, but the Sixers nonetheless made it five wins from six games this season.

And Shadab, who memorably troubled Australia in this year's T20 World Cup semi-final, is set to make his club debut in the Sixers' SCG clash with Brisbane Heat on Wednesday.

"It's really exciting for us to add another really experienced international player to our side," Pope said.

"I had a bit of a chat with him, from two metres away while he had his mask on. It was a bit funny.

"I'm really looking forward to picking his brain and seeing what he has to offer.

"He's got a lot of international experience and, especially as a leggie, he'll have a lot to offer. I can't wait to spend some time with him."

Shadab, who made his international debut in all three formats as a teenager in 2017, dismissed Mitch Marsh, Steve Smith, David Warner and Glenn Maxwell in this year's T20 World Cup semi.

Pope, who has been given a chance to shine in the injury-enforced absence of fellow tweakers Steve O'Keefe (calf) and Ben Manenti (neck), also recalled Shadab's tidy work in a three-game stint for the Heat.

"It'd be awesome if I get to play a couple of games with him. I've watched his stuff for Pakistan and in the Big Bash," he said.

"He's a really interesting bowler.

"We'll see what happens with SOK (O'Keefe).

"Who knows, I'm just really excited to see him hopefully take some wickets for the Sixers."

The Sydney Sixers hope to have Shadab Khan available for their game against the Brisbane Heat on Wednesday after he was forced to miss their 30-run win over the Thunder on Sunday night.

In somewhat bizarre scenes, the Pakistani spinner was forced to sit by himself on a plastic chair at Spotless Stadium as he watched his new teammates get bragging rights in the Sydney derby.

Khan only landed in Sydney a few days ago and hasn’t been able to train with the team because of Covid restrictions.

The 23-year-old had to travel to the ground by himself on Sunday, had his own dressing room and had to train away from the team with one other person who was standing 20 metres away, according to a Sixers spokesperson.

Khan had a Covid test early Sunday morning, with the club sending it through urgently hoping to have the result back before the game started.

Sixers skipper Moises Henriques said pre-game that they would sub him on as the x-factor if the result came through before the 10-over mark, but it wasn’t to be as Khan spent most of the night by himself in the rain.

“It’s pretty frustrating for us and for Shadab. Hopefully the test comes back before the next game,” Sixers veteran Dan Christian told News Corp.

“He’s a brilliant player and I’ve played a bit with him years ago in the CPL (Caribbean Premier League), and I’ve played against him in the PSL (Pakistan Super League). He’s a fantastic cricketer and he’ll be a great addition for us.”

The Sixers would love to have the star spinner cleared ahead of their next game because they are currently without Steve O’Keefe (calf strain) and Ben Manenti (neck), with the latter set to miss the rest of the BBL.

The Thunder usually rely on Alex Hales to get them home, but in the end the rain hurt them as the Sixers flexed their muscles to win the Sydney Smash by 30 runs.

The two-time defending champions will be tough to beat this year after they rode some early punches to pick up another big win on Boxing Day.

The Sixers were struggling at 1-49 after seven overs, but the second rain delay of the night turned the game on its head as it quickened up the pitch, allowing the men in magenta to pile on the runs.

The 30-minute delay shortened the game to 16 overs, with the greasy ball nullifying the Thunder’s spinners. It meant the visitors could sit back and punish the quicks as they posted a commanding 4/168.

Their top six all reached double digits, but Dan Hughes (50 off 26) was the pick of the batters with five massive sixes swinging momentum his side’s way.

His departure in the power surge did nothing to slow the run rate, with veteran Dan Christian blasting an unbeaten 41 off 17 deliveries to lift his side to a commanding total.

“I haven’t had the returns in the first five games…but when you get a chance, hopefully you can take it,” Christian told NCA NewsWire.

The chase was always going to be tough once the target was adjusted to 173, and the Thunder were on the backfoot from the outset when Matthew Gilkes was dismissed in the first over.

Englishman Alex Hales was the key, and while he pumped Sean Abbott for back-to-back sixes, the bowler got the last laugh when he picked up the opener next ball on the rope.

Young gun Jason Sangha (47 off 30) looked in terrific touch in his second game of the tournament, but his dismissal in the tenth over was the beginning of the end for the Thunder who have now lost three of their five games this season and face the high-flying Scorchers on Tuesday.

“When I got out, I think we lost that anchor which I was in the innings,” Sangha said.

“I’ve got to understand that I’ve got to bat through to the end.”

CUTTING CAUGHT OUT

Not much went right for the Thunder in the final over with the ball, with the Sixers swatting Nathan McAndrew to all parts of the ground. There was a six, a couple of boundaries and even a waist high full toss that was called a no ball. But Ben Cutting must have been half asleep because he didn’t realise it was a free hit when Dan Christian slapped one straight to him at cover. Inexplicably, Cutting threw the ball in the air to celebrate, allowing the Sixers to scamper through for a second.

“He obviously just forgot it was a free hit. Silky (Jordan Silk) was on the ball, so we came back for two,” Christian said.

Cricket: Bizarre scenes at Sydney Showground as Sydney Thunder's Ben Cutting thought he had caught Sydney Sixers' Dan Christian, however he quickly realised it was a free hit.

MURPHY FROWN

Aussie quick Scott Boland will never forget his Test debut at the MCG, but spare a thought for Sixers rookie Todd Murphy whose Big Bash debut didn’t quite go to plan. Murphy was subbed off before he had the chance to bat or bowl, with Mickey Edwards brought in to replace him.

Wildermuth to Shadab Khan, out Caught by Duckett!! Shadab Khan c Duckett b Wildermuth 8(9) [4s-1]

So pretty dire performance by Sixers!

Hopefully better days ahead for Shadab in the remaining games.

The experience of bowling on these pitches will do him a world of good. I think that's the most important thing for us going into the World Cup next year. Because Australia is a very tough place to bowl where you have to be spot on with your lengths.

I think even more than him, Mohammad Hasnain will benefit from bowling on those wickets. Because he is someone who really needs to learn a thing or two about line and length.

The match won't happen, as it is chucking it down and it is a regional ground and the facilities for drying outfield aren't great!

Shadab Khan's stint at BBL 11 has ended - the Pakistan spinner took 1/71 in 4 games, Econ = 7.88

What a waste for Shadab Khan to come here. He has batted so low in the batting line up.

As per our information, Shadab was never doing the whole season. He has PSL/franchise commitments coming up which is why he has ended his stint.
