A profile of yet another Pakistani fast-bowler, Mohammad Hasnain of Hyderabad, who has caught the eye of fast-bowling enthusiasts with his impressive abilities.

Full name: Mohammad Hasnain

Born: 5 April 2000, Hyderabad, Sindh

Major teams: Pakistan Under-19s, PTV, Islamabad United

Batting style: Right-hand bat

Bowling style: Right-arm fast-medium

Height: 6ft 1in

Interest in cricket

I started off playing tape-ball cricket in the side streets of my home city, Hyderabad. No one in my family used to play cricket but my father really liked watching the game and had great interest in it as well. I suppose that love for the game was instilled in me too and I started to dream of becoming famous playing cricket from an early age. Whilst cricket is my focus, I have continued with my studies and have passed matriculate examinations. The idea is to keep on studying as and when I get time away from cricket.

Starting hard-ball cricket and Under-16 cricket

My journey in hard-ball cricket started at the age of 13 when I joined the Sindh Cricket Academy which is based in Hyderabad. Based on my hard work with the club, I was asked to play for the Hyderabad Under-16s in their matches in the Pepsi PCB Cricket Stars Under-16s Tournament in 2015. I took 8 wickets in 3 matches and based on this and after the trials, I was selected for the Pakistan Under-16s tour of Australia in 2016. This was my first experience of an overseas tour and I feel I did well where I picked up 4 wickets in 2 One-Dayers and 2 Twenty20 matches.

Moving to Regional Under-19 cricket

On my return from Australia, I took part in the Pepsi PCB Cricket Stars Under-16s Tournament (2016) but this time my performance was even better with 11 wickets in just 4 games. My good form at the Under-16 level allowed me a chance to play at the regional Under-19 level where I continued bowling well taking 8 wickets in the Inter Region Under-19 One Day Tournament 2016/17 and 10 wickets in the Inter Region Under-19 Three Day Tournament 2016/17.

Participation in the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup tournaments in 2016/17 and 2018

The Under-16 and Under-19 performances were a key factor in my selection in the Pakistan Under-19 teams for 2 ACC Asia Cup tournaments. In the 2016/17 Asia Cup which was played in Sri Lanka, I took 6 wickets in 3 games. This was my first major overseas tournament and I feel that I could have done much better, and possibly the results did not match the effort that I put into my bowling.
I was also selected for the 2018 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup but unfortunately did not perform that well due to a variety of reasons, picking up just 1 wicket in 3 games; still, I do feel that I learnt a lot from this experience.

Disappointment of not playing in Pakistan Super League 3

It all started really well. I was handpicked by Islamabad United Head Coach Waqar Younis after he saw me in the nets at the NCA. He really liked my bowling and felt that I was a good choice as a fast bowler but then disaster struck for me. I had been struggling during the season with what I thought was a minor foot injury which was causing pain, but scans showed that I had a hairline fracture and so my dream of playing in the PSL this year came to an abrupt end. I was devastated by this injury as not only did I miss the PSL, I also could not be part of the Pakistan squad for the Under-19 World Cup which was played in January-February of 2018. However, I am grateful to Mudassar Nazar and the coaching staff at the NCA who helped me get through this injury and got me bowling once again, and back to full fitness.

Bowling speed and wicket-taking delivery

I am able to consistently bowl in the range of 135-140KpH and hopefully this will improve as I play more cricket and work on my fitness and training. Whilst the bouncer is my primary weapon for taking wickets, I am also working on improving the line and length of my deliveries and want to be able to bowl good yorkers too so that I can get many more wickets in the future.

Role Models

I have a few role models who I try to emulate whenever I bowl. Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami and most importantly Waqar Younis are the Pakistan players whose videos I watch a lot to see if I can improve my bowling. Adam Milne of New Zealand is the non-Pakistani bowler I admire the most and whilst I have met Shoaib Akhtar and Waqar Younis, I would love to meet Milne one day and talk about my bowling with him.

Future Aspirations

I am currently taking part in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and One-Day Cup and looking to get back into rhythm, and am looking to pick up wickets for my team PTV. After missing out on participating in the previous edition of the PSL, I am very keen to be picked again for one of the franchise teams so that I can showcase my skills to the world. Of course, my ultimate and most important aim is to play for Pakistan in the future and not just find a place in the national team, but also to help my country win matches.

I feel this lads lost his spark after injury. I hope he recovers quickly as he's ineffective at the moment. Nasim Shah has taken over

Would be nice if he makes it looks nippy and had Waqar Younis impressed.

He probably will be amongst very few international cricketers from Hyderabad. Sharjeel Khan was another but that didn't go so well :srt

In the 2nd video his bowling action looks a bit similar to Mohammed Talha..

This video is post-injury, btw. From a few months ago, earlier this year.

Hope he is watching Adam Milne bowl today in Abu Dhabi!

Hasnain, 18-year-old from Hyderabad, will be looking to make his mark in the Quetta Gladiators team under the captaincy of Sarfaraz Ahmed after having missed out the 2018 edition for Islamabad United due to an injury.

“I am excited with the opportunity to play in HBL PSL 2019 for Quetta Gladiators and I can’t wait to share the dressing room with the leading stars of international cricket,” said Hasnain.

“We have so many seniors in our team including our captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, Sohail Tanvir and Sunil Narine. This is nothing short of a dream coming true for an aspiring cricketer like myself.

“Last year was an extremely frustrating experience for me and I can feel for Naseem and what he must be going through,” Hasnain said.

He had a stress fracture which ruled him out of PSL last year but this year he replaces nasim Shah who's injured. Hasnain was 145 kph before injury but was 140 after injury. I hope he's regained pace now

After Mudassar's struggles in the last game, I hope Hasnain gets a go though it's unlikely.

Really want to see more of his bowling.

Sad. We really need to educate bowlers how not to get themselves badly injured

Hasnain is as quick as Haris Rauf.

Loving it.

Already clicked 147 and 148 kph in his first over.

Sami's longterm replacement from Sindh.

Only 18 years old.

That was some serious speed .he was Troubling haris with pace which is not easy

All 3 are good. But at the moment if we need 2 it would be Hasnain and Musa/Rauf.

We both know they won.t be pick as worldcup is too near.Haris have realistic chance other are have very little

On a positive note amir, hasan ali and usman khan will be stunt from these three and will threatened for there places which will bring best out of them

Shaheen
Hasan
Hasnain

Pakistani pace bowling is in safe hands. Alhamdullilah.

Don't forget we have Nasim Shah too, reportedly the fastest in Pakistan. Rauf, Hasnain, Musa, Nasim, four bowlers who can all bowl in 90mphs. Then there is Shaheen who can easily get to that mark in few years time. Now that is mouthwatering !

Wow serious pace from the lad, just imagine what Naseem Shah pace will be, visibly he is easily more quicker than Rauf and Hasnain and his bouncers are definitely the fastest in Pak at the moment.

Preserve all these young bowlers. We are seeing such cluster of talent after a very long time.

Amir will be history soon unless he improves

As I said at the time why did IU let him go?!

And why did it take QG take so long to play him!

Damn.... not following PSL for last 2 days due to political situation but a guy clocking 149 is EXCITING.

How is his action, did he get any movement? Or is just sheer pace and nothing else? Yorkers?

Little bit of seam movement into right handers and away from left handers. Skiddy bowler. Seems similar to sami.

He wasn't just bowling at 145+ but also had a good seam position. Lovely!

Add Rauf and Naseem to that

Rauf probably but he's slightly older and idk seems like he may suffer from an injury at some point.

And Naseem Shah definitely, very excited about his development.

I am seeing this young man for the first time and I must say I am very impressed. He should be brought in for some A tours.

Yes. One of his delivery jagged back abit into the left hand batsman and seam position was good. (Pointing towards leg slip)

Thanks, that’s great.

Pace is exciting but control and swing will ensure long-term success in the international arena.

If he stays fit than he has all the ingredients to develop into a quality bowler.

Wides today seemed more like nerves. His action should allow him to be fairly accurate.

I rate both Haris & Hasnain but technically and action wise Hasnain is ahead atm. But both are breath of fresh air after a long wait.

We do not know exactly. As per Mudassar Nazar Head of NCA he is quicker than Musa.

He has altered his action which was needed so we do not know his pace post injury rehab and action alteration.

Shaheen will be fine even if he doesn't touch that mark. He's just an intelligent bowler with real skills. Doesn't need to be bowling at 145+. Wouldn't hurt if he could do that though.

Any videos of him from today?

Exciting stuff. Was rushing Haris which is very rare (albeit Haris has just returned from injury).

Signs re MH's character/brains are good. Look at how improved his confidence was from first game to second. Also has a brain. Some great channel bowling- not just relying on pace (a la spray gun Wahab Riaz). Surprised no one has mentioned how he is seaming the ball both ways.

Brains and speed is a lethal combo.
