What's new

[VIDEOS] Talent Spotter : Shahnawaz Dahani

He's the sort of pacer we should be taking to places like Australia and South Africa, not short and skiddy Musa Khan types.

Indeed, and from what I saw of him in the Quaid trophy, he knows how to bowl in first class cricket. Has the temperament as well as the skillset.

Not a t20 bowler at the moment as i mentioned before, and that last over showed why.

I hope he doesn't lose that zip and pace under Waqar younis.
Groom him for test cricket.

Bowled like Rubel Hossien. Kept feeding hit me balls to Hyder Ali and got destroyed.

He is most suited to longer format, T20s will ruin his career

I think PSL is good to get noticed and coming from the humble background it would help him financially.

He can be useful in T20s too, but until he learns yorkers captain is advised to use him in the first 12-13 overs

T20s is part of the cricket world now and its a reality alongside other formats. So current gen players will have to just adapt to different formats and polish their game accordingly. Shaheen started with a lot of T20 cricket and just one FC match and has been shaping his skills reasonably well across the formats. Others basing upon their skills will also have to adapt accordingly.

He is decent prospect.Pakistan has a good pool of young fast bowlers now. They need proper coaching and experience.I hope the admin issues are sorted out and the city associations become functional.A lot of talent from grass roots level will get into first class system.

Excited to see how he does in QeA 1st XI cricket

He is a very lovable character and will earn a lot of notoriety.
Him making it big will inspire the entire Sindh region to take cricket seriously.

Definitely. Him and Hasnain are real trailblazers and I believe interest has already begun to pick up.

Its a learning curve it was his first match pluss hes more suited to longer format.but he showed decent skills wit the ball.

Really impressive stuff from dahani has alot of good traits off a fast bowler consistently hitting 145 kph.

But hes more suited to the longer format and i hope he keeps working hard.i hope and pray he is groomed managed properly

His action is still not refined. He can very easily add 5 kph of pace.

The best part about him is the work ethic and his character.

He will keep on running the whole day.
Not one of those chicken-hearted bowlers who would shy away from hard work and prefer the shorter formats. :amir2

He doesn't look like hes putting much effort in but stil clocking good speeds.I hope they can have speed guns in next qaid e azam.

Totally agree with you its good to see young bowlers having a good work ethic also coming from a humble background.

he was playing his first game and he should not have been bowling the death overs. The other so-called senior bowlers bowled so poorly that the captain was left with no option but to bowl him in the end.
All in all, showed a lot of promise in his first game, now he needs to be encouraged.

I have not seen anyone saying he should play for Pakistan right now !

Well let me be the one to set the lead then. He looked better than the senior bowlers today in a very high scoring game. I don't know why people are saying he shouldn't play T20s either, this was a T20 and he was the outstanding pace bowler from both sides.

I get it, he's very raw, but he looks like he has big match temperament, if he shows in the rest of this competition that it wasn't a flash in the pan, then why shouldn't he be considered?

great bowler bowls so quick with effortless action and seems to have decent control over his line and length I am impressed with the standard of fast bowling in psl mohammed imran looks decent as well

Reminds me a bit of Shabbir Ahmed in height, build. Only difference being that Shahnawaz's action is clean.

He did look very impressive but he needs to work on his variations his first 3 overs was the best i have seen from a emerging player.he should continue to play t20 for his development it will help him work on different variations. He should also continue playing domestic competition but he should prioritise the longer format.

But he is more suited to the longer format he moves the ball away very good pace and good height he also runs in all day like he did in the qaid e azam.

Two different kind of bowlers which quality bowlers

He is a very good attacking bowler but lacks defensive skills for t20's at the moment.

If you saw how much of an impact he created in the Quaid trophy and then compared it to how he fared in the Pakistan one-day cup, you would have understood that.

The best thing about the bloke is that he actually enjoys every moment of the game. A player like that will always try his level best to further develop as a player. Very raw but with dedication he has the potential to have a good career.

Didn't think he was that quick till I saw him today, very impressed. Give him another season of FC cricket, and if he performs bring him in. Hopefully by then Waqar is gone too :misbah

is it just me or did he look quicker on the eye than other bowlers we've seen who hit similar speeds so far...may be due to his height but seemed to rush kamran espeically

A guy that is over 6 2 looks way quicker than a small guy bowling at the same pace. It takes that milli sec extra to judge the length of a tall bowler, which creates the perception of extra speed.

yes and he was getting good bounce as well ... that bouncer to kamran was nasty

I get that he lacks some refinement, but can only go off my first impression. Even though he's not supposed to be suited to this format, he still looked the best pace bowler out there from both sides. He also looks to have big match temperament, he was really relishing the big stage.

[VIDEOS] Talent Spotter : Shahnawaz Dhani

An exciting talent is Dhani. He has got pace and bounce. Even struck Kamran Akmal on the head with a bouncer. All that he needs is control, and that will come with experience, of course. Looking forward to seeing him in the matches ahead.

He is definitely not 6.2 , he must be 5.11 or at most 6.

Afridi is around 5 ft 11 and Dhani looks atleast two to three inches taller than him.

Few pics for reference:

Look how short the players in Sindh squad are looking in front of him. While they might be tall but still the difference is huge.

This is definitely not 2 inches , possibly an inch even though his shoulders are down but just look at Afridi shoulders compare to him.

I don't think he is more than 6ft

I can't wait to see Dhani again. Very, very excited about him.

Of the new bowlers, I think only he and Hasnain have longevity. And if Hassan Ali can keep it going, that's good enough for me.

Early days but hey.

Good to see different kind of emerging bowlers in this psl hopefully he keeps performing

i am hearing ppl on social media started making fun of his looks after his 19th over, however, the match was already done and dusted litterakky when tanvir got smacked around... ppl really are messed up these days...

hopefully the kid gets a chance to don the green jersey soon and be successful in it... inshallah

Should be picked for these Zimbabwe tests if they goes ahead.

No point picking these Tabish and Waqas Maqsood type of bowlers.

I know it doesn't matter, but there's literally nothing wrong with his looks at all...? People will criticise anything.

Seems like a genuine guy, and it was heart warming to see how much he was enjoying his time in the middle. Oh, and he can bowl a bit too. I've already chosen Islamabad as my first team and Lahore as my second, so I can't change now, but I very much want Dhani to do well and wouldn't mind Multan winning.

Brilliant delivery to dismiss Fakhar:

Fantastic death bowling by Dhani. Nailed 2 yorkers in a row then a bouncer to claim the wicket.

Gets hit for 6, but then Sohail Khan drops a catch on the next ball. So unlucky for Dhani, was a really wonderful over

Let down a bit by his team's fielding.

The lad has done ok. Yes he's been hit a bit and that's largely down to bowling the wrong length but so far so good.

The worse thing that can happen to him is that he gets picked up for Pakistan team and Waqar gets to work with him.

Good bowling. Looks a bit like Angel Di Maria

Something bout the way he delivers the ball makes me feel uncomfortable, might be my eyes playing tricks but it looks like he has some sort of un natural flex in his elbows , not saying he is chucking it far from it but just looks like it could lead to injury or discomfort somewhere along the line.

He looks like a menacing fast bowler who is always at the batsman.

He's got the X-factor, similar to Shaheen. The captain brings him on to break the partnership and you know he's going to produce something.

What a colourful character this guy is.
He has a great temperament.
Will only get better from here InshaAllah.
The most test ready prospect, and indeed a star in the making.

Looks quality. Lanky as well. Should get good bounce.

He does. Has a fantastic bouncer. It is one of his strengths. He sometimes over-does it though. But that is where more game-time will help.
He is very receptive and has come up by leaps and bounds in just a year.

To think he was playing for Sindh's 2nd XI only a few months ago. I hope there won't be a campaign to fast-track him right after this PSL now he's on everyone's radar. Let him play one more FC season.

Even in his breakout QEA Trophy he was losing steam towards the end so he's still gotta develop his fitness for international cricket.

He's an ideal red ball bowler though, and I hope he doesn't overdose on T20s and loses those core red ball skills of hitting a hard length all day.

Agree, he is not ready for international cricket yet, physically not strong enough . Needs to play 1-2 Qea trophy season with good performance and long spell of bowling . Only then can be considered for an upgrade.

He is a bit like Rabada/Archer in his effortless action and the pace he gets.. although not as quick of course.

Got hit around a little, but he gets the last laugh, claiming the wicket of Sharjeel. Good mental strength

His wicket of Sharjeel:
